There are also other fun games like single bamboo drifting (独竹漂), swing (荡秋千) and horse riding. They come from different ethnic groups or regions. They show different histories, cultures and people’s lives. About 7,000 athletes from all over China joined the games.

New Zealand is an island country in the Pacific Ocean. It is made up of a group of islands. The two biggest islands, the North Island and the South Island, are separated by the Cook Strait. No part of the country is more than 128 km from the sea. The nearest country to New Zealand is Australia, which is 1,600 km away.
The first people to live in New Zealand were the Maori (毛利人). They arrived here about one thousand years ago. They named it Aotearoa, which means “land of the long white cloud”.
Today about 15% of New Zealand’s population are the Maori. In 1642, Dutch (荷兰的) explorer Abel Tasman was the first European to get to New Zealand. The country was later mapped by British captain James Cook, who arrived in 1769. Since then many people from around the world have made New Zealand their home. Most people live in cities these days, especially on North Island.
