When we talk about engineers, we think of people who make machines, like cars. But are there engineers in nature? Yes! Some animals or plants can change their home in a big way. We call them ecosystem engineers.
Beavers are a great example of ecosystem engineers! They use their strong teeth to bite trees until the trees fall down, then they build dams (坝) with branches and stones in the water. The dams create small lakes and wetlands. These new areas become home to fish, insects, birds and many other animals. The areas also help to keep the whole ecosystem healthy and balanced. Beavers don’t do the building work for others—they’re just building their own safe homes. But they create living spaces for other wildlife by accident. Isn’t that amazing?
Plants can be engineers too. In the San Francisco Estuary, the USA, a plant called Brazilian waterweed (水草) is an important one. The leaves and stems of this waterweed can slow down the water. They can also catch tiny things. This makes the water clearer. Clearer water lets more sunlight in, so some fish can see things easily. And sunlight helps water plants grow more. These plants offer the small fish places to hide.
Ecosystem engineers can have a great influence on their home. It shows how all living things in an ecosystem are connected!

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. It is much bigger than Earth—over 1,300 Earths could fit inside it! People often call it a “gas giant (巨人)” because it is made mostly of hydrogen (氢) and helium (氦), not solid (固体的) land like Earth.
You can see Jupiter with your eyes at night, even without a telescope. It looks like a bright star. Jupiter has many satellites. The four biggest ones are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Ganymede is the largest satellite in the solar system, bigger than the planet Mercury.
Jupiter also has a famous character: the Great Red Spot. It is a huge storm that has lasted for hundreds of years. It is nearly as big as four Earths.
Jupiter runs very fast. A day on Jupiter is only about 10 hours long. It is much shorter than an Earth day (24 hours). But a year on Jupiter is very long—it takes about 12 Earth years for Jupiter to go around the Sun once.

As robots become more common in our daily lives, our school held a talk about the role of home robots. And some students shared their opinions about it.
David: Nobody likes doing housework, so it’s wonderful to let robots do these boring jobs! This way we have more time to do things we enjoy. What’s important is that we use robots to improve our quality of life, not to become lazy. For example, instead of watching TV while the robot cleans, we could use that time to learn a new skill.
Linda: While I understand robots can be useful, I’m worried we might depend on them too much. The key question is: will robots help us become better, or will they make us less capable (有能力的)? We need to make sure that using robots doesn’t stop us from learning. Maybe we could use robots only for the most difficult tasks.
Mike: The real problem is finding the right balance. I think robots can be good helpers, but we shouldn’t let them control (控制) our lives. For example, if a robot saves us two hours on housework, we should use that time for self-improvement, not just for entertainment. This way, robots truly improve our lives.

We need to make sure that using robots doesn’t stop us from learning. Maybe we could use robots only for the most difficult tasks.
Mike: The real problem is finding the right balance. I think robots can be good helpers, but we shouldn’t let them control (控制) our lives.
