第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
With the world’s longest high-speed rail network and new record-breaking bullet trains, China is reshaping how travelers explore this vast nation.
The Xiamen — Fuzhou Railway
From Xiamen, you can travel inland to explore Fujian’s Tulou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of huge, circular houses made of earth and wood, some more than 700 years old. With more time, extend the journey on an additional four-hour hop to the provincial capital, Fuzhou, known for its hot springs and ancient alleyways, like Sanfang Qixiang, whose layout and wooden architecture go back as far as the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE).
The Kunming — Shangri-la Railway
Starting from Kunming, the journey can be done as a series of stops at towns like Dali and Lijiang, both known for their ancient architecture and minority cultures, or you can speed straight through to its last stop in about five hours: Shangri-la.
The Lanzhou — Dunhuang Railway
Stretching across the northwest deserts in Gansu Province, this high-speed journey follows the camel trails that were used for centuries to trade silk, spices, and philosophy. Today, starting in Lanzhou, the train sails through the Hexi Corridor, through Zhangye with its colorful Rainbow Hills, Wuwei, where the famous Flying Horse of Gansu was uncovered, and Jiayuguan, the western end of the Great Wall, before finally arriving in Dunhuang, home to the Mogao Caves.
The Qinghai — Tibet Railway
Technically the only non-high-speed train on this list, the Qinghai — Tibet Railway is an engineering wonder built on the challenging land. Starting in Xining, the provincial capital of Qinghai Province, this overnight journey first passes the blue waters of the Qinghai Lake before crossing the Tibetan Plateau (where you might spot antelope and other wildlife), and up into the Himalayas, arriving the next morning in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa.
21. Where is Sanfang Qixiang?
A. In Xiamen. B. In Kunming. C. In Fuzhou. D. In Lijiang.
22. What can visitors see in Wuwei?
A. The Rainbow Hills. B. The Flying Horse.
C. The Mogao Caves. D. The Great Wall.
23. What is unique about the Qinghai — Tibet Railway?
A. It is not a high-speed railway. B. It just operates in the daytime.
C. It runs through minority areas. D. It is best-known for its scenery.

I come to the Spanish city Pamplona to cover the country’s biggest summertime event. The San Fermin Festival, which is held annually from July 6 — 14. It is a centuries-old tradition, with records dating back to 1591, when the festival was moved from October to July.
The highlight, of course, is the running of the bulls each morning. It starts at 8 o’clock, as six bulls dash through the street along an 875-meter course. There are about 2,000 men mostly composed of locals who, over the years, have gained fame as knowledgeable and fearless runners. Known as “mozos”, these runners are dressed in white and wear a red scarf and belt to symbolize the city’s protector Saint Fermin. They run every day of the festival every year to help maintain order and protect other participants.
“While the festival now draws about one million of partygoers from the world, it’s still deeply rooted in local tradition, mixing religious ceremonies with wild celebrations,” says Pamplona resident, Ramon Moreno, who has been running with the bulls since he was 13. “No one knows when the running of the bulls began. But it’s been internationally famous since Ernest Hemingway wrote about it in his novel The Sun Also Rises.”
Visitors can just show up at 7:00 am with a pair of running shoes and run with the bulls during the festival. Although there is risk involved for them, it is similar to standing close to a passing train. But for the mozos, the running can get bloody and fourteen mozos have been killed in the last century. “Yes, it’s crazy,” Ramon Moreno admits. “But if you’ve been fed with your mother’s milk, then this is what you do.”
I enjoy a good party. However, the bull running is too much for me. But perhaps this is what it takes for Spaniards to forget about their bad economy for just a while.
24. What can we learn about The San Fermin Festival?
A. It started in 1591. B. It gets inspiration from a novel.
C. It lasts for a week. D. It was once celebrated in October.
25. Which of the following best describes the mozos?
A. They have to be religious. B. They are brave and adventurous.
C. They are famous athletes. D. They are selected from the partygoers.
26. What does Ramon Moreno imply in paragraph 4?
A. Bull running is too risky. B. Bull running is a cruel sport.
C. Every local man should try it. D. Participants should be protected.
27. What is the author’s attitude to bull running?
A. Disapproving. B. Favorable. C. Unconcerned. D. Unclear.

Microwave ovens (微波炉) have long been widely used in kitchens. However, a small but growing movement driven by health risks and food quality concerns calls for a microwave-free lifestyle. But are the concerns based on scientific evidence?
“If the microwaves used in microwave ovens could damage the food, then the radio waves from the household Wi-Fi would be able to damage all of the food in the house in the same way,” says Christopher Baird, a physicist at West Texas A&M University. “Even candlelight has more microwaves than microwave ovens. Logically, people would need to be more worried about candlelight if such claims about microwaves were accurate,”
Some research even favors microwaving over baking, boiling and pressure cooking methods. One paper recently published in the journal Food Science and Nutrition even found that Vitamins A and C hold up particularly well in microwaved foods.
To dispel doubt Baird explains how the microwave oven works. “The heart of a microwave oven lies in its magnetron tube, which generates the microwaves. When the microwaves encounter food, they speed up the movement of the water molecules (分子) within the food to create heat, or thermal energy, which can effectively warm up the food. By that way, microwaves primarily cook food from the outside in. Foods with a higher water content, such as fresh vegetables, tend to cook more quickly because microwaves easily heat water. Unlike other high-energy sources, such as x-rays which change molecules and damage cells in organic matter, microwaves produce less energy than even visible light and don’t alter the molecules inside the food and our body.”
Baird acknowledges the existence of rare and isolated cases of injury linked to microwave oven use. “Unless the microwave oven suffers damage that could allow microwaves to escape, there is little reason for concern.”
28. Which is probably the best way to cook vegetables according to the new study?
A. Microwaving. B. Baking. C. Boiling. D. Pressure cooking.
29. What does the underlined word “dispel” probably mean?
A. Focus upon. B. Do away with. C. Make fun of. D. Be worried about.
30. What does Christopher Baird most likely want to tell us in the text?
A. Wi-Fi and candlelight are not harmful.
B. Microwave ovens can be risky in some cases.
C. The call for a microwave-free lifestyle is unscientific.
D. We should not worry about health risks and food quality.
31. What is the text?
A. An article review. B. A short story. C. A lab test report. D. An argumentation.
D
Turn to the first page of Kate Hoefler’s new book, The Couch in the Yard, you’ll see a small town at sunset, an old car in a bed of flowers and a family getting ready for an adventure. In the background is an abandoned couch. It is a story about a family’s nighttime adventure around the rural areas where they live and it is inspired by the author’s drives with her children in Ohio’s Appalachia.
“As soon as we took a drive — about a minute out — I began to feel like I was almost in my own private world,” Hoefler recalls. “Along the way, there were woods and farms, but also abandoned school buses and a bunch of random objects. From passers-by’s standpoint, they were just a bunch of random objects. But from a child’s point of view, they were something about possibilities.”
The book is illustrated by Dena Seiferling, who used to take similar drives to visit her grandparents in rural Saskatchewan, Canada. She illustrates this story with pencils, which lends her artwork a bit of an impressionistic look. In terms of color, it starts out a little monotone (单调). When you first look at it, you may see it as limited or like lacking color or something. And then, as you read through the book, it starts to become more alive and more colorful.
The biggest challenge, though, is illustrating a story that takes place entirely at night, while keeping the pictures warm and inviting. Seiferling succeeds in taking advantage of the light from the moon and the car. There’s a point in the story where a tire goes flat and the car is stuck. The moon seems to turn off suddenly, and it gets really, really dark. But there’s still light — the car’s headlights revealing the tall grasses and hopping rabbits.
And then the car takes flight and the family is headed straight for the moon, where they unpack their couch and settle in for some star watching. It’s a dream-like world. That magic nighttime atmosphere gives readers more space to imagine the possibilities in overlooked objects.
32. What can we say about The Couch in the Yard?
A. It is set in a family’s backyard. B. It is about a family’s nighttime drive.
C. It is Kate Hoefler’s first novel. D. It describes the rural areas in Canada.
33. What does Kate Hoefler mainly talk about in paragraph 2?
A. The main plot of her book. B. The major characters in her book.
C. The inspiration for the book. D. The challenges of writing the book.
34. What does the author of the text think of the illustration?
A. Very lovely. B. Fairly scary. C. Too colorful. D. A little bit boring.
35 Who are most probably the new book’s target readers?
A. The elderly. B. The middle-aged. C. Young adults. D. Little kids.

Last summer, I took a job at a restaurant to save money for my college. Sally, a warm-hearted and experienced waitress, was assigned to train me. She moved through the dining room with an effortless grace I desperately hoped to achieve. One evening, my manager, Teri Jo, approached me in a hurry.
“I know you’re still learning,” she began, her voice full of urgency and excitement. “But Sally just called me and said she is sick, and my daughter is at the hospital. She’s about to give birth to my first grandchild! Tonight, it’s going to be just you and the cook working here!”
Seeing that I was a bit nervous, my manager placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder and added, “I am sure you can do it! The pre-made salads are in the front refrigerator, along with the standard dressings. The blue cheese dressing is stored beside the butter in the large refrigerator outside the kitchen.”
The evening started calmly enough, with a few regulars coming in for their usual quick meals. One of them ordered a salad with the blue cheese dressing.
I hurried to the large refrigerator outside the kitchen. The lighting there was not very good, and in my hurry, I mistook a container of heavily seasoned butter — prepared by the cook for our lunchtime bread — for the dressing. Without a second thought, I added it to the fresh greens.
The customer took a bite and his eyes lit up. “This is extraordinary!” he exclaimed. “Your blue cheese dressing is richer and melts more delicately over the vegetables and bacon like butter! Who made it, today?”
Hearing the praise, other customers began ordering the same “special” salad. Each one remarked on its unique flavor, and many promised to return the next evening and try it again.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】 My Visit to China Hi-Tech Exhibition
Last weekend, I visited the China Hi-Tech Exhibition, filled with excitement and curiosity. The hall displayed cutting-edge inventions, from robots doing difficult tasks to new energy cars running silently. Scientists showed how AI helps doctors in surgeries, and VR headsets let me “walk” on the moon. Children laughed while controlling drones with simple gestures, showing technology’s power to connect everyone.
I felt proud of our country’s progress in science. These innovations not only solve real problems but also make daily life easier and greener. The experience inspired me to study harder. I believe technology will shape a brighter future, and we, as the young generation, must be ready to contribute.
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】 The next day, I told Teri Jo what the customers had said. I explained nervously how I had used the seasoned butter instead of the dressing by mistake. At first, her face showed worry, and she frowned slightly. But as I described how the customers praised the “special” salad and promised to return, her expression softened. She tasted the butter herself, her eyes widening in surprise. “This is truly unique,” she admitted with a thoughtful smile. “We might have discovered something new here.” Her calm reaction eased my anxiety, and I felt a glimmer of hope that my error could turn positive.
Just as I was about to apologize, the phone rang. Teri Jo answered quickly, and I heard a customer excitedly ask for the “butter salad” again. After hanging up, she turned to me, her voice warm. “That was a regular customer and he wanted to order it tonight!” she said. “No apology needed. Your mistake gave us a wonderful idea. Let’s make this salad a permanent dish.” I felt proud and relieved, learning that accidents can lead to success. Teri Jo even named it “The Lucky Butter Salad,” and it soon became our restaurant’s most popular dish.
