If you could do any job for a day, what would it be? Takeover Day offers young people this chance. Takeover Day is for young people to “take over” the day from adults. It gives young people experience in different kinds of jobs. Adults can also learn from young people's fresh ideas. Here's what the students say about their Takeover Day. Jack, 13, went to Coventry Football Club. He became a football coach for a day. “Having a try at training players was an unforgettable experience,” said Jack. “If I have the chance, I will do this job in the future.” Linda,15, became the head teacher of her school. “So many meetings! We even had no time for lunch,” she said. But Linda thought she learnt a lot. “My favourite part of the day was meeting the school cook and improving the school menus for the week. It was a great chance to tell her what we really like eating!” Paul, 14, spent the day with a doctor. Paul thought, “If everyone has the chance to follow a doctor for a day, they will be surprised. It will take astronauts 6 months to get there and 18 months to live on the Red Planet. As well as building a spaceship and creating space stations, scientists must answer another question: What are the astronauts going to eat while they are away? In 1961, Yuri Gagarin, the first person in space, ate food in tubes(软管). The next astronauts from the US had dried food mixed with water. Today, astronauts take ready-made meals with them. However, the meals will last for only about 2 years. Maya Cooper, a researcher from the US, thinks she might have the answer. She studies how to grow plants in some special liquid(液体).And they grow surprisingly well. Maya's idea is for the astronauts to have a greenhouse on Mars. In the greenhouse, they can grow some kinds of plants. They will then prepare their meals with these plants and other food from the earth. This will help them get enough nutrients (营养物)to stay healthy. In this way, astronauts will be able to live on fruits and vegetables without meat products for the long trip. Maya also works on menus for the astronauts. She has suggested more than a hundred different dishes, including egg soup and tomato salad. There is even pizza and chips on the menu so that the astronauts won't miss home too much. It is very important to make the Mars trip a success because the astronauts will do some valuable research on Mars. However, people need to solve the food problem first. ( )19. How long will astronauts live on Mars during the 2030 trip? A. For 12 months. B. For 18 months. C. For 2 years. D. For 3 years. ( )20. What food do astronauts take for their space travel now? A. Sherpas are a group of people from Nepal who are famous for their climbing skills. They often work as guides, helping climbers from other countries. Nima comes from a family of climbers. His father is a famous climber, and his uncles were the first brothers to both climb all of the 8,000ers. But even so, Nima didn't start climbing seriously until he was 16 years old. He climbed his first 8,000er, Mount Manaslu, in August of 2022. In 2024, Nima climbed Mount Qomolangma, the world's tallest mountain. Nima chose to leave Mount Shishapangma as his last 8,000er. He had planned to climb it in 2023. But an avalanche(雪崩) killed four people, including his friend and teacher, Tenjen Lama Sherpa. Nima stopped his climb, and instead focused on rescuing other climbers. Nima says climbing is a tough sport. “It's about who can suffer the most when times are the worst,” he says. In 2024, Nima returned to Mount Shishapangma, determined to complete his challenge. He says he was thinking of his friend as he reached the top of the mountain on 9th October 2024. Nima says he hopes his successes will make people more aware of how important Sherpas are to climbing. But he aims to be more than a guide. “My dream is very simple,” Nima says. “It's just to be one of the best athletes in mountaineering.” At just 18 years old, he's well on his way. D A recent experiment proves that bees can save time and energy when they fly around to different flowers. Dr Nigel Raine, from the Royal Holloway University of London, has always been interested in finding out why animals behave as they do. He is also interested in bees. He became more curious when he and some other scientists discovered that bees can quickly solve a maths problem — it takes computers many days. Flowers make pollen(花粉), and when bees visit them, they carry the pollen to other flowers. The scientists wanted to test how bees can save time when they pass many different places and then go home. They completed an experiment, using different kinds of flowers. In the experiment, they had one bee visit all the flowers in one place. They saw how it flew around and returned home. After this, they changed the places of the flowers. The scientists thought the bee would follow the route(路线) it knew already. But the bee changed its route and flew a shorter one. The problem is similar to the “travelling salesman problem”. A salesman travels different places and stays at each place for only once. But he has to calculate(计算) the shortest route. A computer can calculate this, but the experiment shows bees can do the same more quickly with such a very small brain. Scientists are very interested in how they do this. If they find this out, it could help us improve communication networks. This might help humans to reduce traffic jams when there is an accident, for example. That is, we are able to figure out how to calculate the shortest route. ( )27. How did Dr Nigel Raine feel when he and other scientists took the experiment? A. Disappointed. B. Scared. C. Surprised. D. Interested. ( )28. What did scientists discover about bees from the experiment? A. They visited all flowers. B. They flew a shorter route. C. They worked very hard. D. They travelled the same route. ( )29. What is the purpose of the experiment according to the last paragraph? A. To have flowers produce more honey. B. To avoid traffic accidents and jams. C. To make bees save more time. D. To improve communication networks. ( )30. What do scientists most probably want to find out next? A. How flowers make the best pollen. B. How salesmen travel around. C. How bees calculate the shortest route. D. How humans reduce traffic jams. 第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的 A——E五个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项是多余选项),将其序号填入第31~34小题,并回答第35小题。 How to have a successful teenage life?
