A
Quietly sitting there reading, I found myself suddenly listening to the train guard’s announcements. Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand. This one was different. I noticed that other passengers appeared to be listening, too. Not only that, everyone was smiling!
Why was so much attention being paid to this message? As best I can recall, the guard said something along these lines, “Good Morning Ladies, Gentlemen and Children, this is the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith to Central and you’ll be pleased to know that we are right on time. And what a lovely morning it is in Sydney today. The sun is shining, birds are singing, and all’s right with the world. I trust you have a great day wherever you’re going. Thanks for catching my train this morning and I hope to see you again soon.”
Quite a few people (obviously previous strangers) started talking to one another about the guard’s excellent message and how good it had made everyone feel. I started thinking about this, and then I found the young guard and said “Were you the guard on the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith?” The guard seemed a bit stunned at first, replying, “Yes, yyyyes.” “Well, I really appreciate your announcement. Thank you for your extremely good message, which gave me and the other passengers such a good start to the day. Please keep doing it.” I said.
There are two messages for me in what happened that day. Firstly, when people are happy in their work it shows in what they do and say. Secondly, the story attaches much importance to the benefits that accumulate from thanking people for something they’ve done, particularly when it’s not expected. Can you imagine the conversation that guard would have when he got home?
1.Why do few train travelers listen to the announcements?
A.The messages are unattractive. B.The guard’s voice is not clear.
C.They usually feel sleepy. D.They are absorbed in books.
2.What does the underlined word “stunned” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Patient. B.Cautious. C.Surprised. D.Excited.
3.What might the guard talk about with his family when he got home?
A.The beautiful weather. B.The recorded message.
C.The train from Penrith. D.The unexpected appreciation.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.An Intelligent Guard. B.A Boring Train Story.
C.A Different Train Announcement. D.A Lovely Morning in Sydney.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.C
根据第一段“Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand.(乘坐火车的乘客们肯定都会认同这样一个观点:当列车员进行广播时(无论是预先录制好的语音还是列车员本人的讲话),很少有人会去认真聆听,因为这类广播往往枯燥乏味或者难以理解)”可知,由于这些消息没有吸引力,很少有人愿意听。故选A。
根据划线词上文“Quite a few people (obviously previous strangers) started talking to one another about the guard’s excellent message and how good it had made everyone feel. I started thinking about this, and then I found the young guard and said “Were you the guard on the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith?”(有不少人(显然是之前不认识的人)开始相互交谈,谈论那位列车员所传达的那条精彩信息,以及它给大家带来的那种美妙的感受。我开始思考这件事,然后我找到了那位年轻的警卫,并问道:“您就是早上7点35分从彭里斯来的那位列车员吗?”)”可知,作者和列车员不认识,所以对于作者的询问一开始列车员似乎有点吃惊。故划线词意思是“惊讶”。故选C。
3.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Secondly, the story attaches much importance to the benefits that accumulate from thanking people for something they’ve done, particularly when it’s not expected. Can you imagine the conversation that guard would have when he got home?(其次,这个故事非常强调对他人所做之事表示感谢所带来的种种益处,尤其是当这种感谢并非出于预期之时。你能想象那个列车员回到家后会说些什么吗?)”可知,列车员回去之后会对家人说意想不到的收获。故选D。
4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Quietly sitting there reading, I found myself suddenly listening to the train guard’s announcements. Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand. This one was different. I noticed that other passengers appeared to be listening, too. Not only that, everyone was smiling!(静静地坐在那里阅读时,我突然发现自己开始留意起列车员的广播内容。
B
In recent years, there has been a sharp discussion on digital art. As an amateur artist, I see digital tools not as a threat to traditional art but as a means of opening the door to creativity for people.
The cost of materials (quality paper, brushes, and professional grade paints) to create traditional art can be pretty high. Besides, not everyone has a studio in which to create works or store drying and finished pieces. Whenever I embark on a painting project, it’s either my front room that becomes unusable or, it’s the dining room table that’s out of bounds for hours or days. Digital art, by contrast, requires just one investment: with apps like Procreate, Krita, Illustrator, or Canva. Anyone can access tools like oil paints or calligraphy pens to create high-quality work without the financial burden of investing in or replacing materials. For someone on a tight budget, this can be the difference between creating and giving up on a dream entirely.
In modern life, between work, family, and the endless to-do lists, many simply don’t have the luxury of engaging themselves in their practice for hours. Digital art fits perfectly into busy lives. Anyone can draw while sitting in an armchair, add colour to a piece on the bus, or refine details during an endless wait at the doctor’s surgery. For those juggling (兼顾) art with everything else life throws at us, this convenience is a game changer.
Some people think that digital art is cheating because it makes the process too easy. But let’s be honest. Digital artists might use layers or digital tracing as a starting point, but these tools don’t replace the creativity or skill in composition, colour, perspective. They’re simply modern techniques to achieve the same end — bringing an idea or vision to life.
Art is an expression of the human experience. The medium used shouldn’t define the message. Art is art. What matters is the thought and effort behind the work. Digital art doesn’t diminish (削弱) traditional art. Instead, it expands the boundaries of what’s possible. It makes being an artist (amateur or professional) accessible to those who might otherwise feel excluded due to finances, space, or time. Art, at its best, is about connecting the artist with their work and between the work and its audience.
5.What advantage does digital art have over traditional art in terms of cost?
A.It needs a special studio to store finished works.
B.It has to bear the high cost of quality paper and brushes.
C.It requires frequent replacement of professional materials.
D.It just needs one-time investment in relevant apps or tools.
6.What is the author’s attitude towards digital art “cheating” remarks?
A.Supportive. B.Favorable. C.Disapproving. D.Cautious.
7.What is the function of medium for art creation from the author’s point of view?
A.It is a joy.
B.It is a comfort.
C.It is a necessity.
D.It is an assistant tool.
8.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Digital Art: A Threat to Traditional Art B.Digital Art: Opening New Doors for Creativity
C.The High Cost of Traditional Art Creation D.The Skills Required for Digital Art Creation
根据第二段“Digital art, by contrast, requires just one investment: with apps like Procreate, Krita, Illustrator, or Canva.(相比之下,数字艺术只需一次投入即可——使用诸如 Procreate、Krita、Illustrator或Canva这类应用程序。)”
根据第四段“Digital artists might use layers or digital tracing as a starting point, but these tools don’t replace the creativity or skill in composition, colour, perspective. They’re simply modern techniques to achieve the same end — bringing an idea or vision to life.(数字艺术家或许会使用图层或数字描摹作为起点,但这些工具并不能取代构图、色彩和透视方面的创造力或技巧。它们只是实现相同目标的现代手段——将一个想法或愿景变为现实。)”可知,作者对该言论持不认同的态度,故选C。
7.细节理解题。根据最后一段“The medium used shouldn’t define the message. Art is art. What matters is the thought and effort behind the work.(所使用的媒介不应决定其传达的信息。艺术就是艺术。重要的是作品背后的思想和努力。)”可知,媒介只是艺术创作的辅助工具,故选D。
8.主旨大意题。文章开篇作者就表明观点“As an amateur artist, I see digital tools not as a threat to traditional art but as a means of opening the door to creativity for people.(作为一名业余艺术家,我认为数字工具并非对传统艺术构成威胁,而是为人们开启了创造力的新大门。)”
C
A recent global study examined how changes in climate and land use are affecting insects that pollinate (授粉) crops. After analyzing thousands of species across different regions, researchers observed a sharp drop in pollinating insects during periods of abnormally high temperatures and when fewer flowering plants were available. Compared with insects as a whole, groups such as bees, flies, and moths appeared to experience greater losses.
According to estimates, about 35 percent of the world’s food crops and 75 percent of flowering plants require animal pollinators for successful reproduction. As their numbers fall, both crop yields and plant diversity may be affected in ways that are not immediately visible. Researchers say climate change is already having a clear and powerful impact on these species.
The decline has not been evenly spread across the globe. Losses seem to be most serious in tropical (热带的) regions close to the equator (赤道). In countries including China, India, Indonesia, and Brazil, reduced pollination could place pressure on crop production. Parts of sub-Saharan Africa may also face difficulties, particularly with crops such as cocoa and mango that depend heavily on insects. Many species in these regions already live in warm conditions, leaving little room to adjust to further temperature increases.
Changes in the natural environment have made survival more difficult for pollinators. When habitats are damaged or lost, flowering plants become less common, reducing available food. Rising temperatures add to this challenge, while parasites (寄生虫), disease, and chemicals in the environment increase the stress. Researchers are still exploring why pollinators appear to react more strongly to heat than some other insects.
While these trends raise concerns, pollinated crops are not expected to disappear entirely. Instead, lower levels of pollination may reduce production and increase the cost of certain foods, including coffee and chocolate. The findings draw attention to the importance of protecting natural habitats, especially in tropical areas that play a key role in global food supply.
9.What do the figures in paragraph 2 show?
A.The necessity of feeding pollinators.
B.The importance of protecting crops.
C.The effect of climate on pollinators.
D.The dependence of plants on pollinators.
10.What can be inferred about pollinators in tropical regions?
A.They are highly tolerant of extreme heat.
B.They face more threats with fewer resources.
C.They are less able to deal with further warming.
D.They are at risk of long-term population failure.
11.What does the author imply about the decline of pollinators?
A.It is a temporary problem. B.It results from multiple factors.
C.It barely affects food production. D.It is mainly caused by habitat loss.
12.What does the author think of the impact of pollinator loss?
A.It is severe but manageable. B.It will soon become disastrous.
C.It is overstated but still matters. D.It remains unclear due to lack of data.
【答案】9.D 10.C 11.B 12.A
根据第二段“According to estimates, about 35 percent of the world’s food crops and 75 percent of flowering plants require animal pollinators for successful reproduction. (据估计,世界上约35%的粮食作物和75%的开花植物需要动物传粉才能成功繁殖)”可知,这些数据表明了植物对传粉者的依赖程度。故选D项。
10.推理判断题。根据第三段“Many species in these regions already live in warm conditions, leaving little room to adjust to further temperature increases. (这些地区的许多物种已经生活在温暖的环境中,几乎没有空间去适应进一步的温度升高)”可推知,热带地区的传粉者应对进一步变暖的能力较弱。故选C项。
11.推理判断题。根据第四段“When habitats are damaged or lost, flowering plants become less common, reducing available food. Rising temperatures add to this challenge, while parasites (寄生虫), disease, and chemicals in the environment increase the stress. (当栖息地被破坏或丧失时,开花植物变得不那么常见,减少了可用的食物。气温上升加剧了这一挑战,而寄生虫、疾病和环境中的化学物质也增加了压力)”可推知,传粉者数量下降是由栖息地丧失、气温上升、寄生虫、疾病和化学物质等多种因素造成的。故选B项。
12.推理判断题。根据第五段“While these trends raise concerns, pollinated crops are not expected to disappear entirely. Instead, lower levels of pollination may reduce production and increase the cost of certain foods, including coffee and chocolate. (虽然这些趋势令人担忧,但受传粉影响的作物预计不会完全消失。相反,传粉水平的下降可能会导致产量下降,并增加某些食物的成本,如咖啡和巧克力)”及“The findings draw attention to the importance of protecting natural habitats (这些发现提醒人们要重视保护自然栖息地)”可推知,作者认为传粉者减少的影响是严重的,但并非灾难性的,是可以应对的。故选A项。

A.The messages are unattractive. B.The guard’s voice is not clear.
C.They usually feel sleepy. D.They are absorbed in books.
2.What does the underlined word “stunned” in Paragraph 3 mean?

C.The train from Penrith. D.The unexpected appreciation.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.An Intelligent Guard. B.A Boring Train Story.
C.A Different Train Announcement. D.A Lovely Morning in Sydney.
