The One Thing You'd Save The One Thing You'd Save is about a homework assignment. Ms.Chang has students choose what they'd save if their home was on fire. Some choose baseball cards or animal toys. One picks a sweater that was passed down for generations. Another chooses a box of memories about a sister who died. This book helps readers learn to figure out what matters most in life. War and Millie McGonigle It's 1941. Millie McGonigle, a 12yearold girl, was supposed to be living a carefree life. However, she lives in the shadow of World War Ⅱ. The interaction between Millie and her little sister, Lily, mirrors the reallife sibling (兄妹) relationships in many families. We just read, chat with others online or play games online. Or maybe we're using the time between stops to do our makeup, catch up on emails,or read a few chapters of a book. However, Dina Alfasi takes a very different approach. Each day she has to travel hours on buses and trains to get to her engineering job at a hospital in Israel. Rather than look at her cell phone in silence, she uses one very special way to have connection with strangers. It is portraits of the people she meets on public transport every day that she is taking. The photographs catch those quiet and personal moments of people readying themselves for the day ahead. Some people lean (倚靠) their head against the window and go to sleep, some stare into space and have a daydream, and others sit quietly to read their documents or books. Each picture catches one tiny moment in people's lives, ripe with potential for your imagination. It is wonderful for her to look at someone's commute (上下班) and make up an entire story about the rest of their daily existence, from the father travelling with a baby to the woman welcoming a change. “What inspires me very much are the little moments that happen every day,” Dina told My Modern Met. “My work is to tell stories through a single portrait, and it proves that all you need is just to look around and find those magic moments.” 4.What will most people do when going to work? Forest bathing doesn't mean you take bath in the forest; rather, you simply go for a walk in the woods or a city park, where you slacken by using all your senses to experience nature. Yoshifumi Miyazaki, from Chiba University, is among a growing number of scientists who have begun studying the science behind the effects of nature on human health. In his book Shinrinyoku: The Japanese Art of Forest Bathing, Miyazaki explains the techniques of forest bathing. Miyazaki has an interesting theory about why shinrinyoku is so effective. He points out that for more than 99.99% of the time, humans have lived in a natural environment. In fact, in 1800, only 3% of the world's population lived in cities, and by 2019, this figure reached 54%. This is only going to get worse; officials predict that by 2050, 66% will live in cities. This suggests we live in our modern society with bodies that are still used to the natural environment, he writes in the book, because “genes cannot change over just a few hundred years”. The science behind the research studies he presents in the book makes a convincing case that forest bathing is an effective method for reducing stress in today's world. Now city planners are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of nature and are creating new kinds of “parks” out of empty spaces. There're also more city gardens where people can grow vegetables. For kids, kitchen gardens in schools are becoming popular. As Miyazaki stresses, you don't have to find a formal park or garden to practice shinrinyoku. Instead, you can enjoy the effects of nature wherever there're plants. Better yet, he says, we can bring nature closer to where we spend most of our time. Miyazaki's research has shown that just increasing the amount of plants in a room can affect the relaxation benefits of the room. What's more, even when people simply look at flowers, their bodies relax and stress levels decrease. 8.What does the underlined word “slacken” in Paragraph 1 mean? A.Behave. B.Entertain. C.Predict. D.Relax. 分析“you simply go for a walk in the woods or a city park, where you slacken by using all your senses to experience nature ”,可知,where引导定语从句,先行词为woods or parks, slacken为从句中谓语动词,此定语从句的意思是:在森林或者公园,通过用你的一切感官感受自然,可以slacken,再根据最后一句话“What's more, even when people simply look at flowers, their bodies relax and stress levels decrease.”,可知接触自然可以放松。 9.How does the author mainly develop the third Paragraph? A.By giving examples. B.By listing figures. C.By making remarks. D.By presenting research findings. 10.Why does forest bathing work effectively according to Miyazaki? A.Human genes can change easily. B.Nature is part of the modern society. C.Human bodies are accustomed to nature. D.People can always calm down in nature. 根据第四段“This suggests we live in our modern society with bodies that are still used to the natural environment, he writes in the book, because “genes cannot change over just a few hundred years”.可知,虽然我们生活在城市,但是身体还是习惯自然环境,而且基因中对于自然的适应性几百年里是不会变化的。而森林浴这种形式对身心健康有益,正是因为人类的身体还适应于生活在自然环境中。C选项 “人体适应于自然中”符合文意。故选C项。 11.Which of the following will Miyazaki agree on forest bathing? A.It is easy to operate. B.It is meant for gardeners. C.It is unaffordable in the city. D.It is inconvenient to practice. 解析:选A 推理判断题。从最后一段可知,森林浴这一形式并不难做到,只要在房间里增加些植物就能奏效,甚至当人们看到花朵时压力都会下降。A选项“这操作起来很容易”符合文意。故选A项。 D Masks that helped save lives during the Covid19 pandemic (疫情)are proving a deadly risk for wildlife, with birds and sea creatures trapped in many facial coverings in animal habitats. Singleuse masks have been found on the ground, waterways and beaches worldwide since countries required their use in public places to slow the pandemic's spread. Worn once, the thin protective materials can take hundreds of years to break down.“Face masks aren't going away any time soonbut when we throw them away, these items can harm the environment and the animals who share our planet,” Ashley from animal rights group PETA said. Monkeys have been found playing with used masks in the hills outside Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur. And in an incident in Britain, a seagull was saved in Chelmsford after its legs got caught in an abandoned mask for a week. However, the biggest influence is in the water. More than 1.5 billion masks made their way into the world's oceans last year, accounting for around 6200 extra tons of ocean plastic pollution, according to environmental group OceansAsia. “Masks and gloves are particularly problematic for sea creatures,“says George Leonard, chief scientist from NGO. ”When those plastics break down in the environment, they form smaller and smaller particles (颗粒).Those particles then enter the food chain and influence the entire ecosystem,“ he added. Campaigners have urged people to deal with masks properly after using them. OceansAsia has also called on governments to increase punishment for littering and encourage the use of washable masks. 【语篇解读】 这是一篇说明文。文章介绍在新冠疫情期间帮助拯救生命的口罩被证明对野生动物具有致命的危险,并提出了解决办法。 12.What bring(s) a great danger to wildlife now? A.Important. B.Attractive. C.Common. D.Troubling. 解析:选D 词句猜测题。根据第四段最后两句“When those plastics break down in the environment, they form smaller and smaller particles (颗粒).Those particles then enter the food chain and influence the entire ecosystem”(当这些塑料在环境中分解时,会形成越来越小的颗粒,这些颗粒进入食物链,影响整个生态系统)可知,此处是指对于海洋生物来说,口罩和手套尤其成问题。所以problematic意为 “令人感到棘手的”。故选D。 14.What can we infer from the text? A.Monkeys learned to wear masks from humans. B.Plastics are less harmful after becoming particles. C.Used masks have a worse effect on sea creatures. D.Waste masks are the main ocean plastic pollution. 解析:选C 推理判断题。根据第四段第一句“However, the biggest influence is in the water.”(然而,最大的影响是在水里)和第三句“Masks and gloves are particularly problematic for sea creatures”(口罩和手套对海洋生物来说尤其成问题)可知,用过的口罩对海洋生物有更坏的影响。故选C。 15.How should we solve the problem from the last Paragraph? A.Keep masks after they' re used. B.Call on governments to stop littering. C.Punish those who wear singleuse masks. D.Put used masks in the recycling box. 解析:选D 推理判断题。根据最后一段第一句“Campaigners have urged people to deal with masks properly after using them.”(活动人士敦促人们在使用口罩后正确处理口罩)可知,人们在使用口罩后应正确处理口罩,把用过的口罩放在回收箱里是一种正确的处理方式。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Lots of people find it hard to get up in the morning, and put the blame on the alarm clock. I remember her saying that nursing homes were terrible places. Whenever my mother mentioned the topic. she would shake her finger at me and add a warning:“If you put me in one of those places, I'll not forgive you!”I knew my mother's wishes and wanted to obey. Fortunately, my mother lived near me, and for many years it was easy to check on her and help with her care. But with each passing year, my mother experienced a decline in her physical and mental abilities. After ninety, when she was diagnosed with dementia(老年痴呆症) , she needed more assistance with the normal activities of daily living and required close observation just for her own safety. During the passage of time, I, too, was getting older, I had my own mobility(移动性) issues and health concerns, As the days passed, it became clearer that some changes were needed. If I had to go out for groceries(食品杂货), I couldn't leave her alone. When I slept, my mother was unwatched, and she could get out of bed and wander off. Fortunately, while I was figuring out what to do, a brandnew nursing home was built in our town, I toured the nursing home and discovered that they could provide a private room for my mother. They also had staff members that were very professional and welltrained, I tried to convince myself that the new nursing home was the best and safest place for my mother, but I seemed to hear my mother's words and see her finger shake in front of my eyes. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Eventually,I decided and shared my plan with Mom.________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ The big day came finally.________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案: Eventually, I decided and shared my plan with Mom. Hearing that she would be sent to a nursing home, she protested bitterly. And she screamed at the top of her voice, You will not be forgiven. I told her my concerns, convincing her that it would be the best choice for both of us at present. Besides, the nursing home was just a stone's throw, which meant I could visit her frequently. With much painstaking effort, she agreed. The big day came finally. I got up early, helping her pack up the daily necessities. With everything in place, off we went. As soon as Mom was settled in her new room, she took the change as an opportunity to move to a brandnew house. However, it still took her a while to adapt to the new environment. I also kept my promise by paying frequent visits. Seeing her happy face, I knew I made a right decision. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
