Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
35yearold Matt Doogue, a nature photographer, has found himself on the right way and his work is now featured in National Geographic. However, things were different nine years ago when he was suffering from depression. “In the beginning, I was so paranoid (妄想的) and angry that I couldn't leave the house,” says Doogue. “When I attempted to end my life, I knew I needed to see doctors and got treatment, but I knew that I needed something more.” And that's when he first found his passion for taking pictures of insects.
Now, Doogue found that looking at insects through a camera helped him in ways he could never have imagined—and it proved to be the lifeline he needed. It had a “calming effect” that helped him to “disconnect” from stress; and his astonishing images, showing insects and spiders in amazing detail against brightly colored backgrounds, caught the eye of publishers at National Geographic. “I ended up as one of their featured photographers,” recalled Doogue. “It was the peak of my career. It was incredible.”
Originally from Salford, Greater Manchester, he now lives in Armadale, West Lothian, Scotland. Though he fears that Scotland is in the middle of an “epidemic” of male suicide (自杀), he believes that sharing his love of nature photography can help others to cope with their mental health issues as well. “I think the problem is this ‘manup' approach; the idea that men need to be strong puts so much pressure on young males to be fine all the time, which pushes men to the gloomy side,” says Doogue. “This is why I try and be so open about my own experience. Whenever I am out with my camera, I don't think about my other worries. It is just me and the environment around me. You can lose yourself in a spider making its web.”

New Yorkers are rediscovering the joy of bike riding as they continue to avoid mass transportation in an effort to keep up with social distancing guidelines. Businesses everywhere have reported a rise in sales of bicycles and bike repairs in recent months. Bellitte Bicycles, a 102yearold bike shop in New York, is enjoying the sharp increase in demand—just like other bike shops across the country.
The familyowned business was created by Salvatore “Sam” Bellitte and is now run by his grandson, Sal Bellitte. The longstanding business has been in operation through several pandemics and disasters, including a grand opening during the Spanish flu pandermic,WW11, the Great Depression, the oil crisis of the 1970s, Hurricane Sandy and now the Covid19 outbreak. Beilitte Bicycles has been playing a key role in helping many local people who need to travel to their jobs or are looking for safe ways to get outside and exercise since the Covid19 crisis. Not only is biking a safer alternative to public transportation during the pandemic, but it's a great way to get some fresh air and exercise during a time in which our options for physical activity are limited, “There is nothing like a magical open space right now,” said Robin, a 41yearold mother who has been taking advantage of cycling to spend time with her two young sons.
While keeping up with the increasing number of customers in business, employees at Belittle Bicycles are also taking measures against the virus by only allowing a few customers into the store at a time and wiping down surfaces and bikes that come in for repairs, About the important role his familyowned business has played during the health crisis, Belittle said, “Business has been good but it's also about serving the community”.
