When Jack Dawson was just 2 years old, it became obvious that he dreamed about becoming a paramedic (护理人员). His grandfather owns a first response company in Stafford shire, England, and Jack would ride along in his ambulances with the flashing blue lights. By age three, he would start “randomly performing CPR on his toy bear, pressing its chest”, said his mother, Danielle. “My husband and I decided to teach him first aid. He loves it.” Jack quickly grasped the act of CPR, understood the different recovery positions, and learned how to use a defibrillator, a machine that starts the heart beating again after a heart attack.
Then, at age thirteen, overseen by his father and other trainers, the youngster started to lead workshop sessions (研讨会) of his own for their charity, Tamworth Have A Heart, which aims to make Automated External Defibrillators (AED) publicly accessible and train people to use them confidently. Jack taught both children and adults how to perform CPR and use defibrillators, while also keeping an eye on his town centre and checking that the public defibrillators’ pads and batteries were up to date and fit for use.
His lessons often drew 20 to 40 people and sometimes Jack gave presentations in front of 100 people. He did step-by-step demonstrations (演示) on how to perform CPR, informing people about the dangers — including looking into patients’ airways before pressing.
“He absolutely loves teaching,” Danielle said. “I’ve never seen him so confident before and the fact that he’s helping people to save a life determines him even more. I think people appreciate the information coming from a child, as it makes them think that if a 13-year-old kid can do it, then they can.”
Under the name “Mini Medic”, Jack has a page on social media posting training nights for those unable to attend. As a result of his community work, the 13-year old kid is a finalist for Children of Courage Birmingham Awards. Looking forward, Danielle said he was passionate about going to university and being a paramedic.
24. What led to Jack’s early connection with first aid?
A. His natural talent for learning.
B. His experience on an ambulance.
C. His parents’ guidance on first aid.
D. His grandpa’s emergency service work.
25. What can be inferred about Jack from Danielle’s comment in paragraph 4?
A. He is proud of having saved a life.
B. He prefers teaching children to adults.
C. His confidence comes from his parents.
D. His age makes adults feel more capable.
26. What is the purpose of “Mini Medic”?
A. To expand Jack’s training. B. To present Jack’s daily life.
C. To collect money for charity. D. To provide online first-aid service.
27. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A. The Influence of a Childhood Dream
B. A Charity’s Effort to Promote First Aid
C. Early First Aid Edueation’s Importance
D. A Youngster’s Journey to Community Hero
【答案】24. D 25. D 26. A 27. D

【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中Danielle的评论“I think people appreciate the information coming from a child, as it makes them think that if a 13-year-old kid can do it, then they can.(我认为人们喜欢从一个孩子那里得到信息,因为这会让他们觉得,如果一个13岁的孩子都能做到,那么他们也能做到)”可知,Jack的年龄让成年人觉得他们更有能力做到急救。故选D项。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Under the name “Mini Medic”, Jack has a page on social media posting training nights for those unable to attend.(Jack以“Mini Medic”的名义在社交媒体上开设了一个页面,为那些无法参加培训的人发布夜间培训)”可知,“Mini Medic”的目的是利用社交媒体平台,扩大Jack的急救培训覆盖范围,让更多人有机会学习。故选A项。

Toys on children’s holiday wish lists may contain more surprises than usual this year as children open presents that can talk with their owners. Toymakers have declared 2025 the year of artificial intelligence (AI) and are producing robots and teddies that can teach, play and tell stories.
AI is reshaping childhood. Children can listen to songs composed about themselves read stories in which they star, play video games that adapt to their skill level and have a chatbot friend cheering them on.
Being brought up by robots has advantages. Tech firms are already showing how AI can make learning more effective, especially where teachers and materials are rare. The ability to read and write and language-learning have been boosted in early trials. The dream is that, with an AI tutor, children can be freed from classes designed for the average level, in which bright pupils are bored and dim ones are lost. If you want a version (版本)of this leader for an eight-year-old Hindi-speaker, AI can rewrite it; if they would prefer it as a cartoon book or a song, no problem.
However, it is obviously risky to let children use this developing technology as they like. AI tutors may give wrong answers. Toys can go off the rails (轨道). Children can easily misuse AI, to cheat at homework. Besides, one-sided relationships with chatbots also present a risk. AI companions that never criticize, nor share feelings of their own, are a poor preparation for dealing with imperfect humans. A third of American teenagers say they find chatting with an AI companion at least as satisfying as talking to a friend, and easier than talking to their parents. Yes-bots threaten to create children not used to taking turns, who grow up into colleagues unable to compromise (妥协)or partner with others. This is the long-term challenge.
Some basic counter-measures are urgent. Parents should think twice before entrusting their child to a machine. Chatbots should have clear age rules that are properly carried out; governments should not give AI firms more freedom. They should redouble efforts to teach things that a robot can’t: to debate, to disagree and to get along with others — perhaps even to appreciate life.
28. What surprise may be found in 2025?
A An interactive toy. B. A funny video game.
C. A well-composed song. D. A story-writing machine.
29. What does the underlined word “dim” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A. Lacking in flexibility. B. Slow in learning.
C. Depressed in mood. D. Interested in cartoons.
30. What is the long-term challenge that AI brings according to the text?
A. AI tutors give wrong answers. B. Children cheat with AI’s help.
C. Toys go off the rails easily. D. Children lose interpersonal skills.
31. What is the author’s attitude toward AI chatbots?
A. Opposed. B. Supportive. C. Objective. D. Indifferent.
【答案】28. A 29. B 30. D 31. C

Toymakers have declared 2025 the year of artificial intelligence (AI) and are producing robots and teddies that can teach, play and tell stories.(今年,孩子们节日愿望清单上的玩具可能会比往常更具惊喜,因为孩子们拆开的礼物能和主人对话。玩具制造商宣布2025年为人工智能元年,正在生产可以教学、玩耍和讲故事的机器人与泰迪熊)”可知,2025年的惊喜是能与主人互动的智能玩具。故选A项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“The dream is that, with an AI tutor, children can be freed from classes designed for the average level, in which bright pupils are bored and dim ones are lost.(人们的愿景是,有了人工智能辅导老师,孩子们可以摆脱为平均水平设计的课堂——在这样的课堂上,聪明的学生会感到无聊,而dim的学生则会跟不上)”可知,dim与前文的bright(聪明的)构成对比,由此推测该词意为“学习迟钝的”。故选B项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Besides, one-sided relationships with chatbots also present a risk. This is the long-term challenge.(此外,与聊天机器人建立单向的关系同样存在风险。

The feeling of magic around Christmas is something many of us remember from childhood and spend the rest of our lives trying to recreate. Warm childhood memories of writing letters to Santa Claus still lie in our heart. There’s something about the “Christmas feeling” that everyone recognizes. But why is it so hard to experience it as an adult? Has Christmas changed? Is it really a Christmas feeling, or just a feeling of missing the past?
Katie Carhart, a clinical psychologist, said, “As adults, they feel different, because instead of just enjoying the joy, they’re making it. For children, holiday meals just arrive to the table, presents appear under the tree, and it feels magical. But for adults, they are responsible for making the magic and continuing the traditions—from cooking for hours, shopping to wrapping gifts until late at night, which comes with pressure, high expectations and stress.” She also explained, “Adults are not always missing Christmas itself as much as they’re missing how it felt when life was simpler and they weren’t responsible for making it happen.”
Feelings of stress or burnout around the holiday period are common. A recent survey from major U. S. mental health provider, LifeStance Health, found that 75 percent of respondents (调查对象) think some planned holiday gatherings feel like duties rather than something they want to attend. It also found that 69 percent of respondents feel at least some pressure to appear happier than they actually are during the holidays, with 34 percent of millennials (千禧一代) and 35 percent of Gen Z reporting a high degree of pressure.
However, Marcum, a psychologist at AMFM Healtheare, encourages adults to do things to make the time feel more magical and less stressful. Consider the things that mean the most, and prioritize (优先处理) them. He also advises people to set boundaries and not to feel the need to attend every social event, hit every holiday item on the bucket list. Setting boundaries helps to reduce burnout.
32. What do adults actually miss according to Katie Carhart?
A. The simplicity of childhood life. B. Making delicious holiday meals.
C. The changed Christmas traditions. D. Buying presents for family members.
33. Why does the author list the numbers in paragraph 3?
A. To show gatherings are popular.
B. To prove holiday stress is common.
C. To explain avoidance of social events.
D. To compare different age-group pressures.
34. What is Marcum’s advice to avoid holiday burnout?
A. Stick to traditions firmly. B. Prepare holiday items early.
C. Solve key things and set limits. D. Attend as many events as possible.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. Holiday stress and its harm.
B. Why adults lose Christmas magic?
C. Adults’ and children’s Christmas views.
D. How traditions affect adults’ mental health?
【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. B

【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“She also explained, “Adults are not always missing Christmas itself as much as they’re missing how it felt when life was simpler and they weren’t responsible for making it happen.”(她还解释道:“成年人怀念的并不总是圣诞节本身,更多的是怀念那种生活更简单、无需为创造节日氛围而负责的感受。”)”可知,成年人怀念的是生活更简单、不用承担责任的童年感受,而非圣诞节本身或具体活动。故选A。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Feelings of stress or burnout around the holiday period are common. A recent survey from major U. S. mental health provider, LifeStance Health, found that 75 percent of respondents (调查对象) think some planned holiday gatherings feel like duties rather than something they want to attend. 【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“But why is it so hard to experience it as an adult? Has Christmas changed? Is it really a Christmas feeling, or just a feeling of missing the past?(但为何成年人却如此难以体验?

I was hired to be a general character actress at Disney. Mostly I was Belle, but I also got to be Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, and the rest of the classic Disney princesses. However, Belle was just my all-time favorite. After being there for several wonderful years, I was starting to have a hard time fitting into my perfectly tailored costume. One day, I was told firmly, “They don’t tailor costumes to you. You have to fit into a preexisting size.” To some extent, the words rocked my confidence so much that I decided it was best for me to quit the job. Besides, I was old enough and maybe no kids would like me anymore. Consumed with a strong sense of helplessness and frustration, I didn’t know what to expect for the future. Although feeling truly sad, I decided to give my most heartfelt performance for the last time.
On my last day, I wanted to wear my most favorite and comfortable dress (Belle’s ordinary life dress, obviously). Well, I randomly (随意地) decided to visit the clinic near the castle entrance. I didn’t know why, because I never had before, but it was a sudden strong wish that I didn’t ignore.
The clinic at Disney was a place where the Disney staff took people suffering from heat stroke (中暑) or any other medical emergency. Inside there was a little girl named Lucy with heat sickness, lying weakly on a chair. She happened to be absolutely addicted to Beauty and the Beast. Belle was, of course, her favorite princess.
Lucy was apparently depressed because she had to leave because of the heat stroke before meeting a single character. Her mother even bought her some colorful candies to cheer her up, but it didn’t work at all. They felt extremely helpless that they couldn’t realize Lucy’s simple dream to play with Belle at Disney on her seventh birthday. Tears welled up in Lucy’s big eyes, her mother promising her to come back another day.

【答案】
Just as the mother was at a loss, she looked up and saw me. Her eyes lit up instantly, and she gently nudged Lucy, whispering something in her ear. Lucy slowly turned her head, and when her gaze met mine, her face broke into the brightest smile I had ever seen. I knelt down beside her, taking her small hand in mine, and said, “I heard it’s your birthday today, and I just had to come wish you a happy birthday, my little friend.” Lucy threw her arms around me, sobbing softly but with pure joy. We sang the birthday song together, and she insisted on sharing her colorful candies with me, pressing a handful into my palm.
Tasting the candy Lucy gave me, I decided to have a second thought about my job. The sweetness on my tongue was nothing compared to the warmth in my heart. In that moment, I realized that being a Disney princess wasn’t just about fitting into a perfect costume — it was about bringing joy to kids like Lucy, making their dreams come true. All my frustration and self-doubt melted away. I went back to the costume department that afternoon, determined to find a way to keep doing what I loved. With their support, I adjusted my lifestyle to stay healthy, and soon enough, I was back in Belle’s dress, ready to create more magical moments for every child who walked through the gates.

C
Toys on children’s holiday wish lists may contain more surprises than usual this year as children open presents that can talk with their owners. Toymakers have declared 2025 the year of artificial intelligence (AI) and are producing robots and teddies that can teach, play and tell stories.
AI is reshaping childhood. Children can listen to songs composed about themselves, read stories in which they star, play video games that adapt to their skill level and have a chatbot friend cheering them on.
A. An interactive toy. B. A funny video game.
C. A well-composed song. D. A story-writing machine.
29. What does the underlined word “dim” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A Lacking in flexibility. B. Slow in learning.
C. Depressed in mood. D. Interested in cartoons.
30. What is the long-term challenge that AI brings according to the text?
A. AI tutors give wrong answers. B. Children cheat with AI’s help.
C. Toys go off the rails easily. D. Children lose interpersonal skills.
31. What is the author’s attitude toward AI chatbots?
A. Opposed. B. Supportive. C. Objective. D. Indifferent.
D
A Holiday stress and its harm.
B. Why adults lose Christmas magic?
C. Adults’ and children’s Christmas views.
D. How traditions affect adults’ mental health?

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just as the mother was at a loss, she looked up and saw me.

Tasting the candy Lucy gave me, I decided to have a second thought about my job.
