Rather than charge customers for his services, the owner, Edward, clears up people’s overgrown yards for free. Then, with permission, he posts videos of his work online. These videos have proven surprisingly popular, getting the company millions of followers. Edward was recently clearing an abandoned house when he discovered a sick cat. He began calling various local animal shelters, with little success. However, Ivy’s Cat Home immediately agreed to help. Calling themselves a “last chance” shelter, they accept even the most hopeless cases. Despite following him online, the owner, Ivy Beal, didn’t recognize Edward. So, when Edward found out the shelter needed money and offered to help, Ivy didn’t expect much. To her great surprise, Green Grass’s huge online audience quickly donated much money to help her. And the cat? The newly named “Esbee” has fully recovered and now “works” full-time at the shelter, welcoming new arrivals and bossing employees around!

In the quiet of Tsinghua Garden in the 1930s, a young boy immersed himself in both mathematical equations and the teachings of Mencius. That boy, Chen-Ning Yang, would grow to redefine modern physics. His 103-year journey, which ended in October 18, 2025, blended scientific genius with unshakable devotion to science.
Yang’s academic foundation was shaped in hard times. In 1937, his family endured immense hardships to reach Kunming, where he enrolled in Southwest Associated University (SWAU) in 1938. Initially gaining admission to the chemistry department at his father’s suggestion, he soon switched to physics — a decision sparked by self-study before the entrance exam. At SWAU, his peers remembered him as the top student, and later he recalled that SWAU’s curriculum surpassed America’s best universities at the time.
Yang’s scientific breakthroughs would reshape humanity’s understanding of the universe. In 1957, his cooperation with Li Zhengdao overturned the long-standing principle of parity conservation in weak interactions, earning them the Nobel Prize in Physics. On the platform, Yang declared pride in both his Chinese heritage and his dedication to Western-originated modern science. Yet his achievements were not just from genius, but from untiring rigor: he kept to the motto “prefer clumsiness to trickery, simplicity to ostentation,(炫耀)” often spending years rigorously(缜密)calculating before advancing ideas.
Patriotism remained the unbroken thread in his life. In 1971, Yang became the first distinguished Chinese-American scientist to visit China, leading to a wave of overseas scholars’ homecomings and sharing cutting-edge Western physics with domestic colleagues. He later established funds to sponsor nearly 100 Chinese scholars for US studies, many of whom became backbones of China’s science community. In 1999, returned to Tsinghua and there, he founded the Institute for Advanced Study, donating his salary to recruit talent. His later years fulfilled the “common journey” of serving the nation.
24. What led Yang to switch his major to physics at SWAU?
A. His father’s direct request to change.
B. His exceptional score in the physics entrance exam.
C. His early interest in physics rather than chemistry.
D. His self-study-induced interest before enrollment.
25. What message does Yang’s motto mainly convey?
A. Rely on hard work rather than shortcuts in research.
B. Avoid complex theories and focus on simple concepts.
C. Admit ignorance rather than pretend to know everything.
D. Prioritize practical applications over theoretical research.
26. Why is Yang’s 1971 visit to China considered significant?
A. It secured him a teaching position at Tsinghua later.
B. It inspired overseas Chinese scholars to return.
C. It marked Sino-U.S. academic relations.
D. It allowed him to raise funds for Chinese students.
27. What is the core quality of Chen-Ning Yang based on the passage?
A. Persistence in scientific research B. Innovation in education
C. Devotion to traditional culture D. Passion for public welfare
【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. A

China successfully launched 12 advanced computing satellites into low-Earth orbit using a Long March-6 rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on May 14, 2025. This mission marked a historic milestone: the official start of the Three-body Computing Constellation—the world’s first space-based computing network, named after a classic celestial mechanics problem about three-body motion. Unlike traditional satellites that only collect and transmit data back to Earth for processing, these new satellites are equipped with high-performance on-board computing systems, allowing them to analyze data directly in orbit.
Developed jointly by Zhejiang Lab, Guoxing Aerospace, and a team of 50+ aerospace engineers, each satellite boasts a computing capacity of 744 trillion operations per second. When working in the same time, the 12-satellite network forms a seamless(无缝的)“space supercomputer.” In practical tests, it detected a forest fire in Southwest China within 8 seconds and generated a 3D flood map for a disaster-hit area in just 15 seconds — tasks that once took old-style satellites 3 to 5 days to complete. This efficiency leap originates from its ability to cut out the long data transmission loop to Earth, which previously wasted 70% to 90% of mission time.
The constellation(星座) also integrates two cutting-edge technologies: 100Gbps laser communication and AI models trained on petabytes of space and Earth data. The laser links ensure ultra-fast, low-delay data sharing between satellites and ground stations, while the AI enables real-time tasks like tracking missing aircraft, monitoring extreme weather such as typhoons, and even analyzing high-energy space events. For deep-space exploration, this network is a game-rules too — it can process data from lunar probes in orbit, reducing the time delay for critical commands from weeks to mere seconds.
China has outlined an ambitious expansion plan for the constellation: by 2035, it will grow to 2,800 satellites, covering global airspace, ocean areas, and remote regions. This will create a “space-ground integrated computing system” that supports industries like smart city management, precision agriculture, and emergency response. Professor Wang Jian, the lead engineer at Zhejiang Lab, noted, “Space computing power is no longer a distant concept — it will reshape how we interact with our planet and the universe, turning challenges like disaster relief and deep-space travel into manageable tasks.” As the constellation begins regular operations, it sets a new standard for global space technology innovation.
28. What is the main feature of the Three-body Computing Constellation?
A. Named after a physics problem in space.
B. Faster in calculations than old satellites.
C. Launched via Long March rocket from Jiuquan.
D. Processes data in orbit instead of just sending to Earth .
29. What role can the new computing satellites play?
A. Sharply reduce earth message waiting time.
B. Only find forest fires and make 3D flood maps.
C. Help short-distance but not deep-space trips.
D. Monitor disasters and study space events.
30. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. The Future of Global Deep-Space Exploration.
B. A Giant Leap In Space Computing Network.

In a world obsessed with IQ and EQ, a lesser-known metric — Play Quotient (PQ) — is gaining recognition as a key driver of long-term success. PQ refers to one’s ability to engage in playful thinking, embrace curiosity, and find joy in exploration — qualities that transcend (胜过) age and profession. Unlike rigid academic skills, PQ fosters adaptability, creativity, and resilience, features increasingly vital in a fast-changing society.
PQ manifests in simple yet powerful ways. It’s the employee who solves a complex problem by rephrasing it as a “game” to brainstorm solutions, the student who experiments with new ideas instead of sticking to mechanical learning, or the parent who uses play to teach life lessons. At its core, PQ is about maintaining a sense of wonder: asking “what if?” instead of accepting “what is.” This playful mindset encourages risk-taking without fear of failure, as mistakes are seen as part of the learning process rather than setbacks.
Critics may dismiss play as unimportant things, but research shows PQ is associated with significant life outcomes. Studies link higher PQ to enhance problem-solving skills, better stress management, and stronger interpersonal relationships. In the workplace, leaders with high PQ inspire teams to innovate, as they create environments where creativity is raised, not restrained. For children, playful learning builds emotional intelligence and critical thinking, laying the foundation for future success. Importantly, PQ is not born with — like a muscle, it can be strengthened through intentional practice: trying new hobbies, approaching tasks with a lighthearted attitude, and allowing oneself to “waste time” on curious pursuits.
In a culture that often prioritizes productivity over joy, nurturing PQ can feel contrary to intuition (直觉). Yet in a world where automation replaces routine tasks, human creativity and adaptability — fueled by PQ — remain irreplaceable. PQ reminds us that success isn’t just about what we know, but how we think: with curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to play.
32. What does the underlined word “manifest” most probably mean?
A. Disappear gradually. B. Improve significantly.
C. Show clearly. D. Change completely.
33. Which of the following is an example of high PQ?
A. A student memorizing textbook content word for word to pass exams.
B. An employee refusing new methods to avoid potential mistakes.
C A parent using role-play games to help their child understand honesty.
D. A leader requiring team members to follow rules without exception.
34. It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
A. PQ is the most important factor for life success compared with IQ
B. people can enhance PQ by actively trying new and interesting things
C. PQ only benefits children’s academic performance and growth
D. individuals with high IQ are naturally equipped with strong PQ
35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage?
A. To illustrate the importance of PQ as a key skill in modern life.
B. To make a detailed comparison between PQ, IQ and EQ.
C. To criticize the social trend of overvaluing productivity.
D. To provide practical methods for readers to measure their own PQ.

Unlike rigid academic skills, PQ fosters adaptability, creativity, and resilience, features increasingly vital in a fast-changing society.(在一个痴迷于智商与情商时代,一种名为“玩商”的隐性指标正被重新定义为长期成功的关键驱动力。 故选A。

第二节:(满分25分)
72. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答.
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a brain disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.

24 What led Yang to switch his major to physics at SWAU?
A. His father’s direct request to change.
B. His exceptional score in the physics entrance exam.
C. His early interest in physics rather than chemistry.
D His self-study-induced interest before enrollment.
C
C. The Development of China’s Satellite Technology.
D. China’s New Satellites: Boosting Disaster Relief.
31. What will the following passage most probably discuss?
A. Historical failures and success of China’s satellite projects.
B Global responses to the advance of China’s satellite plan.
C. Differences between China’s constellation and ancient tools.
D. Technical challenges and solutions in building the constellation.

C. A parent using role-play games to help their child understand honesty.
