I lost my phone when I was on holiday four months ago. With no phone to use on my way back to Milan, I decided to buy a book at the airport before boarding the plane. There was a discount on Stephen Hawking’s Brief Answers to the Big Questions, and while not necessarily an easy read for the non-reader I was at the time, it touched on some of the subjects I’m most passionate about so I decided it was worth the £5.99. I paid for it. To my great surprise, I read the whole book on that two-hour return flight — and so my love for reading began. I was confused. Before then, I used to buy books fairly often, hoping I’d read them, knowing months would go by and I wouldn’t even open them. So I wondered. What was different this time? After carefully analyzing the situation, I came up with an explanation.
Now I realize, most books on my reading list as a child came from one of three places: suggested books, school books, and “to read before you die” books. As a kid, I didn’t have much experience when it came to books or reading. So when I decided to pick up a book, I thought these were the ones I should read and I believed I would surely enjoy them. Then I ended up thinking of myself as someone that simply didn’t like reading.
It is obvious, in hindsight (在事后看来), that I actually really enjoyed reading. The few times I got to skim through a book that felt right, I would devour the whole thing in a matter of hours.
Many people approach reading in the wrong way, so they finally end up disliking it the way I did. Keep on reading books you don’t like, and you’ll eventually convince yourself it is reading you don’t like. So just make sure, you are reading books that touch on subjects you are actually passionate about — don’t be scared to create your unique bookshelf.

Today almost everyone knows computers and the Internet. If I ask you “What is the most important in your life?” Maybe you will say “Computers and the Internet.”
The first computer was made in 1946. It was very big but it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller. But they work faster and faster. What can computers do? A writer has said, “People can’t live without computers today.”
The Internet came a little later than computers. It is about twenty-five years later than computers. But now it can be found almost everywhere. We can use it to read books, write letters, do shopping, play games or make friends.
Many students like the Internet very much. They often go into the Internet as soon as they are free. They make friends on the Internet and maybe they have never seen these friends. They don’t know their real names, ages, and even gender (性别). They are so interested in making the “unreal friends” that they can’t put their heart into study. Many of them can’t catch up with others on many subjects because of that.
We can use computers and the Internet to learn more about the world. But at the same time, we should remember that not all the things can be done by computers and the Internet.

第Ⅱ卷 写作 (共30分)
第一节:阅读表达 (共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读表达
We drove the day before from Lake Nakuru to Amboseli National Park. The drives across Kenya were an enjoyable experience. My husband Charlie had been looking forward to this day for a year. Seeing Mount Kilimanjaro was at the top of his wish list.
When we drove in, we got our first sight of Mount Kilimanjaro, and she did not let us down. We arrived at the holiday center, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, which is in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This area is between Nairobi and the Kenyan Coast and is known for its large elephant herds (群) and views of the great Mount Kilimanjaro across the Tanzania border (边境). We spent the day with our small group and our guide, Alex, out on the game drive, and saw so much wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and all kinds of birds. We saw so many herds of elephants. If you love elephants, this is the place for you.
Then we ate an outdoor lunch. Breaking bread with people all over the world was something that brought me great pleasure. This meal was one of the best of the trip for me. I truly believe that one of the keys to world peace and the end of prejudices (偏见) is walking a mile in someone else’s shoes and eating a meal with people from different cultures.
This was our last day of game drives before we headed the next morning back to Nairobi to begin our journey home. In my next blog (博客) post, I am going to write down my thoughts on the African trip, but I want to share this now: If one of your dreams is to go on a trip to see wild animals in Africa, you should just do it.
I will forever treasure my time in Kenya. I dream of returning because Africa has such different landscapes (风景) to the USA. The experience is unlike anything else I have ever experienced.
51. How did Charlie feel before the trip to Kenya? (1 word)

55. Do you love traveling? And why? (no more than 25 words)

【答案】51. Excited.
52. Mount Kilimanjaro.
53. It’s one of the best. Or: It’s good for world peace. Or: It’s helpful to end prejudice.
54. The experience is unlike anything else she has ever experienced.
55. Open. (合理即可) Yes, because traveling can broaden my mind and let me enjoy different landscapes.

【52题详解】
考查词句猜测。根据第二段“When we drove in, we got our first sight of Mount Kilimanjaro, and she did not let us down. (当我们开车进去时,第一次看到了乞力马扎罗山,而它没有让我们失望。)”可知,前文提到的事物是乞力马扎罗山,所以划线词“she”指代的是乞力马扎罗山。故答案为Mount Kilimanjaro.
【53题详解】
考查细节理解。根据第三段“This meal was one of the best of the trip for me. (这顿饭是我这次旅行中最棒的一顿饭之一。)”可知,作者认为和不同文化背景的人一起吃的这顿午餐是旅行中最棒的之一。故答案为It’s one of the best. Or: It’s good for world peace. Or: It’s helpful to end prejudice.
【54题详解】
考查细节理解。根据最后一段“The experience is unlike anything else I have ever experienced. (这段经历与我以往的任何经历都不同。)”可知,作者认为这次非洲之旅的经历是独一无二的。故答案为The experience is unlike anything else she has ever experienced.
【55题详解】

【答案】 We Are What We Eat
Nowadays, people are paying more and more attention to their eating habits. Having good eating habits brings numerous benefits. Firstly, it provides the nutrients we need to stay healthy. Different foods contain various nutrients, and a balanced intake ensures our body functions well. Secondly, good eating habits can help prevent diseases. A proper diet strengthens our immune system, making us less likely to get sick.
On the contrary, bad eating habits can lead to serious problems. For example, overeating junk food often results in obesity, which may cause other health issues.
In my opinion, a balanced diet is the key to a healthy life. We should include a variety of foods in our daily meals, such as grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein. Only in this way can we maintain good health and enjoy a better life.

41. What surprised the author?
A. He lost his phone. B. The book was very cheap.
C. The book was easy to read. D. He finished reading the book.
42. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 2?
A. Explore ways to create a reading list.
B. Introduce his particular taste in books.
C. Explain why he used to be a non-reader.
D. Analyze how children’s books are classified.
43. What books does the author advise people to read?
A. Those that attract their interest.
B. Those that enrich their knowledge.
