Style and comfort have always been of equal priority for me. I got my first pair of Converse All Stars in the 1980s. For years,I walked across cities from Chicago to Oslo-all while wearing Converse,or Fly London boots-building a wardrobe of lasting pieces.
At 41,my life changed with a Parkinson's diagnosis. This disease brought involuntary, painful twisting in my feet and ankles. When medications failed,my toes would grip the ground and my ankles would roll painfully, causing me to stumble or fall, which was mentally and physically exhausting.
With my body turning against me,I was forced to re-evaluate even my most basic choices, starting with my shoes. My beloved Converse triggered toe twisting, while my Fly boots caused my ankles to give way.
A turning point came when someone recommended Nike tactical boots with stiff soles and ankle support to me. Following this advice,I switched to Nikes and soon wore nothing else. The Flys and All Stars languished in my closet; but letting go felt impossible for so long, they had felt like“me”.
A friend suggested selling my unwearable items on Vinted. I listed everything that hindered(妨碍)my movement and received warm, grateful reviews from buyers. This encouragement led me to also become a buyer, discovering stylish shirts for layering to manage my condition's temperature fluctuations (波动).
I didn't touch my old shoes for almost a year not until the time came to invest in a new pair of Nikes. The Flys sold in a day,but the Converse took longer. I had priced them high, very high. I watched them sit motionless in my real and virtual wardrobes until I received an offer. I accepted and wrote the buyer a note, explaining why I was sad to give them up. Her kind reply, with sweet emojis, touched me deeply. She,too, was a Converse wearer who understood my attachment,Through such transactions,I connected with others sharing stories of illness and changing styles. Now,I wear whichever shoes give me comfort, aware that this may evolve too. While I walk less,I still seek out clothes and shoes that will go the distance. This journey has taught me what to release, and how powerful kindness can be in helping us move forward.
24.Why did the author stop wearing her beloved Converse?
A.She was getting old. B.She had Parkinson's disease.
C.Converse was out of fashion. D.Fly boots were more comfortable.
25.What does the underlined word“languished”in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Disappeared. B.Emerged. C.Stayed. D.Shrank.
26.How did the author feel when she decided to sell Converse?
A.Attached. B.Relieved. C.Grateful. D.Thrilled.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.A Shoe Collection:From Converse to Nike
B.Adapting My Walk:Living with Parkinson's
C.Beyond the Sale:Functional Clothing for Everyone
D.From Style to Comfort:Letting Go and Moving Forward

When a person is trapped in an avalanche(雪崩),there is very little time before their oxygen supply runs out. A new safety device that channels air to the buried person's face may extend survival and increase the chance of a successful rescue,a clinical trial suggests.
Participants were buried face-down under at least 50 centimeters-about a foot and a half-of snow at a field site in northern Italy. The goal was to remain there safely for 35 minutes. No one in the group wearing a functioning safety device needed to be removed early due to low blood oxygen levels, researchers report October 8 in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Minutes after an avalanche burial, blood levels of oxygen begin to drop and those of carbon dioxide climb. The chance of survival decreases starting at 10 minutes. Around two-thirds of people whose head and chest are trapped under snow will die of insufficient oxygen within 35 minutes. The safety device, integrated into a backpack, has a fan that draws air from the surrounding snow and directs it to the face from outlets in the shoulder straps(肩带). Called Safeback SBX,the battery-operated device weighs a little over 500 grams,or about a pound.
In the trial, researchers monitored participants' oxygen levels, heart and respiratory(呼吸的)rates and other health measures during burial, which ended if anyone's blood oxygen level became dangerously low, below 80 percent. This did not happen for the 12 people in the safety device group. Eleven remained buried for the full 35 minutes, while one asked to be removed early due to unexpected skin irritation(瘙痒).
In contrast, seven of the 12 using a sham device(假装置)had to stop prematurely because they fell below the blood oxygen cutoff. Another four requested an early end:Three felt short of breath and one had a panic attack. The length of time the sham device group remained buried largely ranged from 5 to 13 minutes. Only one person in that group stayed under the snow for the full 35 minutes.
Avalanches kill an average of 100 people in Europe each year, including skiers and mountain climbers. Avalanche deaths in the last several years in the United States have ranged from roughly one dozen to several dozen.
28.What is the primary function of the new safety device?
A.To keep the buried person warm under the snow.
B.To locate the position of the buried person accurately.
C.To send emergency signals to rescue the buried person.
D.To provide a continuous air supply to the buried person.
29.Which of the following can be Safeback SBX?
30.Compared to the sham device group, how did the group with the functioning device perform?
A.They showed significantly lower heart rates.
B.They maintained higher blood oxygen levels.
C.They reported fewer instances of skin irritation.
D.They were more likely to have trouble breathing.
31.The author mentions avalanche deaths in the last paragraph to .
A.emphasize the importance of timely rescue
B.justify the needs to use the new safety device
C.warn mountain climbers of the danger of avalanches
D.indicate the rising number of deaths caused by avalanches

Obesity has historically been regarded as a moral failing, and people with obesity describe being seen as deficient, lazy, undeserving of respect, lacking willpower and self-discipline.
These views contribute to weight bias, which can lead to weight stigma(污名).“Weight stigma is a major concern that needs to be addressed in clinical practice and medical education,”Kathleen Robinson, assistant professor of low a Carver College of Medicine, told Medscape Medical News. Robinson and colleagues surveyed 395 individuals who were asked about their experiences related to weight stigma and healthcare. Of these,73 provided narrative responses, some of which included experiences of being shamed.
“We found ongoing tension between seeing weight as solely a result of personal responsibility and as a multifactorial condition with various uncontrollable aspects,”Robinson reported. “And we found healthcare providers made assumptions about patients based on body size, such as what they were eating or whether they were exercising, and didn't necessarily ask about or acknowledge the patient's previous experiences with losing weight or what their actual lifestyle was,” she said. Advice was often“simplistic and dismissive,”rather than addressing the patient's specific needs and history.
Weight stigma can result in physicians dismissing patients' non-weight-related concerns, refusing care, or attributing health problems to obesity without considering other causes. “If a patient with obesity presents with knee pain, for example,it's all too often attributed to excess weight,”Kasuen Mauldin, professor of San Jose State University, told Medscape Medical News. “But there are many causes of:knee pain,of which mechanical weight-related stress is only one. So,before you attribute the knee pain to the patient's weight, ask yourself how you would handle the same complaint in someone of lower body weight and size and if you would conduct the same workup.
Addressing weight stigma in healthcare involves changing the clinical approach to patients with obesity. Physicians should focus on helping patients set and work on behavioral goals rather than on losing weight,Mauldin said. “If you go to a financial planner, you won't be told,‘Get rich.’Instead, you'll be given concrete, practical steps, such as diversifying investments or saving money every month. Similarly, instead of focusing on weight,it's better to focus on actionable items, such as food substitutions, filling the plate with vegetables,or increasing movement.“Measuring and discussing a patient's weight may not always be necessary at every appointment and may perpetuate(使 持 续)the weight-centricmodel especially when a person is presenting with an unrelated concern,Mauldin said.
32.According to Dr. Robinson, what was common among healthcare providers?
A.Treating patients with obesity without any mercy.
B.Relying on patient's specific needs to treat obesity.
C.Refusing to provide any medical care to patients with obesity.
D.Guessing patients' lifestyles without carefully asking for details.
33.What can we learn from the case of“knee pain”?
A.Doctors should stick to the same medical procedures.
B.Knee pain is the most common among patients with obesity.
C.Mechanical weight-related stress causes pain in the patients' knees.
D.Doctors tend to overlook potential causes of illness due to weight stigma.
34.Which of the following will Kasuen Mauldin disagree with?
A.Replacing snacks with organic food.
B.Keeping track of changes in your weight.
C.Scheduling 30 minutes of exercise every day.
D.Eating more vegetables and less processed food.
35.What can we infer from the text?
A.Weight stigma will be removed through the healthcare system.
B.Patients need to be motivated to take responsibility for their weight.
C.The healthcare system should provide medical education to patients.
D.Physicians should shift from being weight-centric to patient-centered.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When it comes to humour, every culture has its own unique flavour. British humour,in particular,is a fascinating and often puzzling phenomenon for outsiders. It's a style of comedy that doesn't always rely on obvious jokes or punchlines(笑点). 36 Understanding these key characteristics can make watching a British comedy show a much more enjoyable and less confusing experience.
37 For instance, sarcasm, which is a fundamental ingredient, often involves saying the opposite of what one means, with a straight face that makes it tricky to detect. A British person might say,“‘Lovely weather we're having,’during a heavy downpour. The humour lies not in the words themselves, but in the shared understanding of the irony(讽刺)between the speaker and the listener.
Another defining feature is a love for absurdity and surreal(超现实的)situations. British comedies frequently present characters in unusual, illogical scenarios that unfold in the most unexpected ways. The audience finds itself laughing at the ridiculousness of the dilemma. 38 You might see a comedy about a government department solely responsible for handling lost cheese, which is played with seriousness by the actors.
Furthermore,self-mockery,the ability to laugh at oneself,is at the heart of British comedy. Unlike cultures where confidence is celebrated, Brits often make themselves the target of the joke. They readily point out their own flaws, failures, and social awkwardness. When a character trips over and then makes a witty remark about their own clumsiness,it's a classic example of this trait in action. Brits fear being seen as taking themselves too seriously. 39 So,the next time you watch a British sitcom, don't worry if you don't burst out laughing immediately. Appreciating this unique comedic style requires looking beyond the surface. 40 Once you learn to spot the irony, absurdity, and self-mockery,you'll unlock a rich and wonderfully strange world of comedy that is as clever as it is entertaining.
A.The actors' delivery is always exaggerated.
B.Instead, it thrives on irony,absurdity,and self-mockery.
C.For one thing,it is deeply rooted in irony and understatement.
D.To truly 'get' it,you need to tune into its distinctive frequency.
E.This form of humour can be traced back to historical class structures.
F.Laughing at oneself is considered a virtue and a form of social bonding.
G.Celebrating the unreasonable,it finds joy in the breakdown of normal logic.

In a half sleep,I heard the 54 sound of a motor and looked skywards, but the sound disappeared. A while later I heard it again, but this time it sounded closer. I 55 myself up and walked to where the sound was coming. As I reached the top of the hill,I gasped in disbelief:There before me was Logue Brook Dam!

第二节(共10小题,每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Dining customs often provide an insight into a culture's values. In the West,a separate meal for each person is a common practice. Even at a banquet, people take 56 they like for themselves rather than sharing dishes. With ever-widening opening up to the outside world, this Western culinary(烹 饪 的)practice has influenced China to a certain extent, 57 has not basically changed the eating habits of the Chinese people.
In the eyes of the Chinese, what is important about eating, especially at festivals,is to eat in a certain atmosphere and with certain sentiments(情感). In the process, the old and young sit 58 the order of seniority, talking and laughing in a joyous atmosphere, 59 the elders select food for the young, and the young make toasts to the elders. It is a lively, warm and harmonious family 60 (reunite).A hostess or host in China would distribute the dishes to treat guests. Using a pair of serving chopsticks, she or he offers the best part of 60 (fry)fish to the most important guest, 62 custom which expresses respect, concern and hospitality and is still popular among elder Chinese.
Such culinary customs 63 (have)a certain influence on the character of the Chinese people since ancient times. In a sense,it has strengthened the 64 (collect)spirit of the nation. At a party or a banquet, everyone first takes into consideration the needs of the group, with the eating process also 65 (be)a time to show humility and concern for others. This is different from Western eating habits, which pay more attention to individual needs.

The last day of summer vacation arrived with intense heat,as the sun blazed fiercely overhead. Sixteen-year-old Lily stood in the middle of a towering cornfield, sweat dripping down her neck. Her parents had been working since dawn, their bent figures moving like clockwork through the golden field, exhaustion etched(蚀刻)deeply on their faces under the relentless sun. Lily had promised to help, but now every snap(掰)of corn sent sharp pain shooting up her arms, and her legs trembled under the weight of the basket overflown with corn. The endless rows of crops seemed to mock(嘲笑)her weakness, their rustling leaves whispering“city girl”with each gust of wind.“Take a break,Lily,”her father called out,his voice hoarse from hours of labor.
He wiped his weathered forehead with a faded handkerchief, leaving dark streaks of dirt across his cheeks. Lily hesitated, digging her nails into her blistered(水的)palms until they turned white. She had always longed to prove she could endure this hard work-the same land her parents had nourished for thirty harvests, the legacy they hoped to pass on. But just then, dark clouds gathered across the horizon. The air grew thick and heavy, filled with the smell of damp soil,a sure sign of an approaching storm.
Suddenly,a violent wind tore through the field, bending the cornstalks. Her mother rushed over, holding an empty basket, her face pale with urgency. “The radio just warned of flash floods in two hours!”she shouted over the howling wind, her eyes scanning the darkening sky. “We must finish this section before the rain ruins the entire harvest!”

Dear Chris,I hope this email finds you well!I'm writing to tell you about a meaningful activity that recently took place at our school a fire drill. When the fire alarm rang,we immediately evacuated the building following the designated escape routes. All students covered their mouths with wet towels and moved in an orderly manner to the playground. The firefighters then demonstrated how to use fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment, followed by a simulated rescue operation.
This drill was truly enlightening. It not only enhanced our awareness of fire safety but also provided us with practical survival skills. I'd love to know how safety education is conducted in your school. Please share your experience when you have time!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
Lily glanced at her blistered palms and took a deep breath. The stinging pain faded as she gripped the ear of corn tighter, determined to prove she belonged to this land. She followed her parents' rhythm, snapping the ears of corn from their stalks and tossing them into the basket with renewed strength. The wind howled, tangling her hair, but she kept going, ignoring the ache in her back. Her parents' grunts and the rustle of corn became a rallying cry, pushing her past exhaustion.
The first raindrops fell as they started to load the baskets onto the truck. They worked faster, rain soaking their clothes as they lifted the heavy baskets. With one final heave, the last basket was loaded. They sprinted toward the farmhouse, laughter mixing with the storm's roar. Collapsing on the porch,Lily stared at her muddy, blistered hands,a smile spreading. Her mother squeezed her shoulder, pride in her eyes. “You're a farmer's daughter, through and through,”she said. As the rain poured,Lily knew she'd earned her place in this legacy.
