A. on B. in C. at
【答案】A

故选A。
2. Every participant (参与者) should prepare ________ speech carefully.
A. they B. their C. them
3. —The speech contest needs a presenter (主持人).
—Do you know ________ will be the presenter?
A. who B. what C. which
【答案】A

A. is shown B. will be shown C. will show
【答案】B

Many schools now plan study trips for students, and these trips have changed a lot; rather than in busy cities, study trips now often take place in quiet villages. Do you know why? Villages provide special hands-on learning (亲身实践的学习) experiences that we can’t find in cities.
These village study trips make learning more active. The countryside is like a big outdoor classroom. By watching, touching and experiencing, students learn about the natural world better. They can tell apart different kinds of plants in fields, take care of baby chickens in country yards, and use farming tools on the farms. Young people also work together on group tasks: They feed animals, pick fruits and clean the yards. This helps them think better and work well in groups. “Planting vegetables is fun! I learn more by doing than reading,” says Li Wei, a 9th-grader. Zhang Tao, another student in her class, agrees, “Working on the farm tells me hard work is really important.” The quiet natural views in the countryside and local customs (风俗) also make students feel closer to the joys of life.
Local people also welcome these trips because they help them live a better life. People in the villages can have new jobs like tour guides or teachers. They show students around villages, teach them how to farm, or tell stories about the mountains and rivers. Besides, local shops and businesses sell fresh farm food or handmade goods to visitors.

Have you ever had a small dirty mark on your shirt and felt like all the people around you were looking at it all day? Or maybe you said something wrong when you were speaking in front of others and thought everyone would remember it? If so, you have experienced the “spotlight effect” (聚光灯效应).
The spotlight effect is a feeling. It makes us think that people are paying much more attention to us than they actually are. Two scientists named Thomas Gilovich and Kenneth Savitsky gave it this name. In one study, they asked some college students to wear ugly T-shirts and walk into a room full of their classmates. The students wearing the T-shirts thought about 50% of their classmates would see their shirts. But in fact, only around 25% of the students really noticed. Why does this happen? The reason is easy: we see and feel everything from our own point of view, so it is easy to think others are watching us just as closely as we watch ourselves.
But think about it: When you worry that everyone sees your messy hair, those other people are probably also worrying about their own hair or clothes. They are not looking at you as much as you imagine. Of course, people do notice you sometimes, but not as often as you think. Knowing about the spotlight effect can help you feel more relaxed. It can remind you that small things—like a stain (污渍) or a small mistake—are usually not a big deal to others.
So, next time you feel nervous about something small, just remember: Most people are busy thinking about themselves, not about you. Try not to worry too much, and just be yourself.
31. What is the spotlight effect?
A. People watch us all the time.
B. We don’t care what others think.
C. We think people notice us more than they do.
32. What did the scientists ask college students to do in the study?
A. Talk about their own clothes in front of the class.
B. Wear ugly T-shirts and walk into a classroom.
C. Watch others who were wearing ugly T-shirts.
33. What was the real result of the T-shirt study?
A. About 50% of the students noticed the ugly T-shirts.
B. Only around 25% of the classmates noticed the shirts.
C. Almost nobody noticed what the students were wearing.
34. According to the text, why does the spotlight effect happen?
A. Because we see things only from our own point of view.
B. Because other people are always very interested in us.
C. Because scientists tell us to think that way.
35. What advice does the passage give?
A. Always check your clothes before going out.
B. Ask others if they notice your small mistakes.
C. Remember most people are thinking about themselves.
【答案】31. C 32. B 33. B 34. A 35. C

The Pyramids of Egypt are not only among the world’s most famous historical places, but also one of its greatest mysteries. Every year, they attract millions of visitors. Many come in spring or autumn to see the sun line up perfectly with the pyramids’ sides.
For a long time, people believed the pyramids were tombs for ancient kings, meant to help them reach the next life. However, some experts now wonder if that was their only use. “The way they were built is so advanced, it must have had more meaning,” one historian says.
Another idea is that the pyramids acted like a giant calendar or were used to study the stars. The biggest pyramid points almost exactly north. Some also think the pyramids could help with health or spirit. “When you are inside, you feel a deep calm,” shared one visitor. No one knows the real reason they were built, but most agree their exact position was important. Some think they showed the king’s power, while others say they connected the earth and the heavens.
The pyramids took a very long time to build, with the oldest ones made about 4, 500 years ago. One great mystery is how people moved such heavy stones without machines. Today, groups have tried to copy the building process, but it is still very difficult. “We may never learn the builders’ names,” says a researcher, “but their skill and planning still amaze us today!”

【答案】
例文:
Dear Mike,
I’m glad to know that you will come to China and stay at my home. There are some family rules you need to follow. First, we can’t play computer games on weekdays to focus on study. We usually watch TV together after dinner for a short time to relax. Also, we should do chores. For example, I often wash dishes and sweep the floor, and sometimes take out the rubbish. You’ll need to help too, as it builds teamwork skills. Besides, we can’t stay out late without telling our parents for safety reasons.
These rules help us live in an orderly way. I’m used to them and they truly make our family closer and much happier.

Are you ready to step into this outdoor classroom and have your own memories in the village?
26. Where do study trips often happen now?
A. In classrooms. B. In busy cities. C. In quiet villages.
27. What can students learn about the natural world?
A. Take care of all the farm animals.
B. Tell apart different kinds of plants.
C. Make farming tools.
28. What can young people learn from the group tasks?
A. They can think and work in groups better.
B. They feel closer to the joys of life.
C. They learn to be tour guides.
29. Why do local people welcome study trips?
A. Local people can work as tour guides or teachers.
B. Students buy many things from them every day.
C. Students help them do farm work.
30. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Study trips in villages help both students and locals.
B. Villages are better classrooms than busy cities.
C. Students enjoy group farm activities.
C
