Winter sports were popular in the north of China hundreds of years ago.
This combination (联合) of ice skating and archery (箭术) became popular during the Qing Dynasty. There were three arches (拱门) put on the ice, with a silk ball hung by a rope in the middle of each arch. Players would skate across the ice, led by a person with a flag. Once passing through an arch, they would turn around and try to hit the ball with an arrow. The scene was very powerful, as hundreds of players joined in together, moving in a line like a dragon.
In the match, the players were divided into two teams. They competed to catch a ball thrown into the air above ice. Unlike the ancient cuju, players were allowed to pass the ball with their hands and feet. According to historical records, the Qing government included the sport in military (军事的) training, as it could improve players’ endurance (耐力) and strength.
This sport was popular in the 18th century. On cold winter days, organizers would water a slope (斜坡) about ten meters in length to create an ice track for competitors. Wearing ice skates, competitors would take turns to slide (滑行) down the slope to show as much of their skating skills as they could. Those who made it down the slope without falling would be the winner. The sport was dangerous and carried a high risk of injury (损伤).
46. Group work is very important in ________.
A. archery on ice and ice football B. ice football and downhill ice skating
C. archery on ice and downhill ice skating D. archery on ice, ice football and downhill ice skating
47. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Downhill ice skating first appeared in the Qing Dynasty.
B. Players competed to hit the silk ball before passing through the arch.
C. It’s not so hard to win the match of downhill ice skating without getting hurt.
D. With a strong mind and full strength, one team may be the winner of Ice football.
48. In which column (栏目) of a newspaper may we read the passage most probably?
A. Modern ice sports B. Interesting ancient competitions

For those whose hearts often go offbeat, pacemakers (心脏起搏器) are lifesavers. By providing a small electrical support at the right moment, they can keep a heart working properly.
Their main problem is that they use batteries. Even the best of them will run out of energy, and changing the batteries requires operations. Since operations are usually best avoided, the search has been on for long-lasting batteries. Different choices have been explored for a long time. Today, pacemakers with lithium batteries (锂电池) last between 5 and 15 years.
Zhang Hao, from Shanghai Second Military Medical University, and Yang Bin, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, tried a way to refill a pacemaker’s battery with electricity(电) by getting energy from inside the body. They report in the magazine ACS Nano that they have also used the heart muscle (肌肉) itself to work. Earlier efforts by other scientists to use heart muscle power to run pacemakers depended on piezoelectric materials These materials can be connected to a beating heart and produce electricity when they are slightly deformed (弯曲). This has worked, but not well enough: the output has rarely been over 5 microwatts (微瓦), while most pacemakers require at least ten.
Dr Zhang and Dr Yang believed that they could improve the matter by making their piezoelectric materials more dramatically deformed, and then produce 15 microwatts, because the more deformed, the more electricity will be produced. They put their idea to the test in a 50kg pig. It made enough electricity for the pacemaker to work as expected.
Whether such an idea will pass human tests remains to be seen. But if it does, the days of pacemakers that need battery changes through operations may not last long.
49. What is a problem with pacemakers according to the first two paragraphs?
A. They often go off beat.
B. Their energy can be used up.
C. Operations often influence them.
D. They sometimes do harm to hearts.
50. What do we know about piezoelectric materials from this passage?
A. They can be used to produce electricity.
B. They can deform the heart to make it beat faster.
C. They were first used by Zhang Hao and Yang Bin.
D. They were proved to produce 15 microwatts in human tests.
51. What does the underlined word “dramatically” probably mean?
A. Comfortably. B. Safely. C. Greatly. D. Quickly.
52. What is the best title for this article?
A. No Need to Use Pacemakers
B. The Problem with Piezoelectric Materials
C. The Contribution of Chinese Scientists to Heart Operations
D. Chinese Scientists Found a New Way to Improve Pacemakers

Brazilian artist Vik Muniz uses everyday objects in unusual ways. Through his art, Muniz makes people think differently about their everyday lives-even their own rubbish.
In 2007, Muniz worked on a two-year project at one of the world’s largest landfills. Until its closure in 2012, Jardim Gramacho received about 70 percent of the rubbish from Rio de Janeiro. About 3,000 rubbish pickers, known as catadores, worked there. Their job was to hunt through the rubbish for recyclable cans, bottles, and other materials. They then made money by selling the objects to recycling companies.
The catadores’ work was dirty and dangerous, and most of them only received between $20 and $25 a day. Despite the hard conditions, many catadores were proud of their work. Valter Dos Santos, a worker at Jardim Gramacho for more than 25 years, told Muniz, “I am proud to be a picker. I try to explain to people that recycling prevents great harm to nature and the environment. People sometimes say, ‘But one single soda can?’ One single can is of great importance! That single can will make the difference.”
Muniz became friends with Dos Santos and other catadores. They allowed him to take their photographs at the landfill, where they posed for artistic portraits. For example, Muniz photographed a landfill worker in the style of a famous French painting. The workers then helped Muniz create huge images of these photos on the floor of his workshop. They used materials from the landfill to add color and depth to the images.
________ Muniz says he wanted to “change the lives of people with the same materials they deal with every day.” A photograph of his recreation of the French painting sold for £28,000 ($50,000) at a London art auction. Muniz gave the money to the catadores workers’ organization.
In 2010, a movie called Waste Land was made about Muniz’s project. The film received many awards and helped make people aware of the rubbish collectors’ lives. The catadores also began to see themselves differently. “Sometimes we see ourselves as so small,” says Irma, a cook at Gramacho, “but people out there see us as so big, so beautiful.”
53. Why did the writer mention Valter Dos Santos?
A. To tell the story of a catador’s life. B. To describe the catadores’ hard conditions.
C. To show the value of a catador’s work. D. To give an example of successful catadores.
54. What can we learn about Muniz’s photographs?
A. They were all taken at the landfill. B. He spent a long time on each of them.
C. They were only part of his unusual creation. D. He took them in the style of famous paintings.
55. Which of the following is the most suitable for ________?
A. Why take such photos of these catadores? B. Why create such huge images using rubbish?
C How to help these people in a creative way? D. How to turn everyday objects into art pieces?
56. Which of the following shows the right order of the things that happened?

What man-made objects in China can be seen from space? They don’t include the Great Wall of course, which is mostly no wider than a country road; but surely include the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces
Hacked (开辟) from mountains in Yunnan province, the terraces spread over more than 160 square kilometers to create one of the most amazing landscapes on the planet.
“Since ancient times, the local Hani people have built ditches (沟渠) to pass spring water from mountains and forests to water terraced fields,” said a local guide. “The number of ditches required has been huge. It needs a great deal of manpower.”
It is believed that the Hani people arrived in the Ailao Mountains around the third century, having moved south from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (高地). They were so impressed by what they found there—rich land, mild climate, plentiful rainfall—they chose to put down roots.
Hani farmers began carving the terraces by hand during the Tang Dynasty. Some are as big as football fields, and others no larger than a bed. The terraces climb from 500 meters to 1,800 meters above sea level. They’re “stairways to heaven”.
However, the Hani’s engineered wonder remained largely hidden from the rest of the world for centuries. Nobody paid much attention to them until the 2000s. The local government managed to get them highlighted on UNESCO’s World Heritage (遗产) List in 2013.
Though the terraces shine with bright green in the summer growing season, the landscape is at its most photogenic (上镜的) from November to late April, when the waterlogged terraces become natural mirrors that reflect (折射) every sunrise and sunset, with farmers and water buffalo (水牛) walking by from time to time.
57. The Honghe Hani Rice Terraces ________.
A. were built with the help of the local government
B. are the only man-made object that can be seen from space
C. were carved by Hani farmers on the Qinghai-Xizang plateau
D. were created to bring water down from the forests to the farmland
58. When does the Hani Rice Terraces look the most beautiful in photographs?
A. In winter. B. From autumn to spring.
C. In late spring. D. During the summer growing season.
59. Why didn’t the Hani Rice Terraces come to light until the 2000s?
A Because the government didn’t support it.
B. Because people couldn’t get there easily.
C. Because there were not enough reports about them.
D. Because the local people were unwilling to be discovered.
60. What may be the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces?
①A place worth visiting and enjoying. ②One common nice tourist attraction in China.
③An amazing man-made wonder. ④ A site showing Chinese people’s greatness.
⑤A useful area full of history and wisdom. ⑥ A wonderful place not known by the world.
A. ①②③④ B. ①③④⑤ C. ②③④⑥ D. ②④⑤⑥

The air is thin and we have to rest several times on the short hike from camp. To our left, snow-covered mountains disappear into clouds that seem almost close enough to touch. On the plain in front of us, we can just make out a herd of graceful animals. This is why we’re here—to observe Tibetan antelopes.
Tibetan antelopes live on the plains of Xizang, Xinjiang, and Qinghai. Watching them move slowly across the green grass, I’m struck by their beauty. I’m also reminded of the danger they were in. They were once hunted for their valuable fur.
My guide is Zhaxi, a villager from Changtang. He works at the Changtang National Nature Reserve. The reserve is a shelter for the animals and plants of northwestern Xizang. To Zhaxi, the land is sacred and protecting the wildlife is a way of life. “We’re not trying to save the animals,” he says. “Actually, we’re trying to save ourselves.”
The 1980s and 1990s were bad times for the Tibetan antelope. The population dropped by more than 50 percent. Hunters shot antelopes to make profits. Their habitats became smaller as new roads and railways were built.
In order to save this species from disappearing, the Chinese government placed it under national protection. Zhaxi and other volunteers watched over the antelopes day and night to keep them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move easily and keep them safe from cars and trains.
The measures were effective. The antelope population has recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope was removed from the endangered species list. The government, however, does not plan to stop the protection programmes, since the threats to the Tibetan antelope have not yet disappeared.
In the evening, I drink a cup of tea and watch the stars. I think about the antelopes and what Zhaxi told me. Much is being done to protect wildlife, but if we really want to save the planet, we must change our way of life. Only when we learn to live in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.

A. will be finished B. is finished
C. will finish D. has finished

分析“Not until the work...tomorrow.”
25. What information can we get from the note below?
Badminton Club
If you’d like to join the Badminton Club, contact us by Friday (tomorrow). There are only 18 places left now. Practice evenings are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

C. There are three badminton classes a week in the club.
D. You need to decide quickly if you want to join the club.

against反对;without没有;through通过;beyond超越。根据“His famous artwork that can be seen in the museum is...all praise.”

C. such; so; such D. such; so; so

第一个空修饰名词短语little boys,应用such;第二个空修饰形容词much,应用so,构成固定搭配so much;第三个空修饰名词短语a short time,应用such。故选C。

【答案】A
how I can get the information我该如何获取这些信息;what I can do for him我能为他做些什么;where I could get the information我在哪里可以获取这些信息;who I can ask for help我可以向谁求助。根据答语“You can look it up in the science books in the library.” 故选A。
30. —Only those who have a lot in common can get along well.
—______. Opposites sometimes attract.
A. I hope so B. I don’t care C. I don’t think so D. I can’t agree more

since自从;after在……之后;while当…… 根据原文“No one notices anything unusual…the last mask is removed.” 的意思,“not...until...”
根据“In a small village in Sichuan, 19-year-old Yin Qiuhua, a girl with Down syndrome has an amazing skill-Sichuan opera face-changing.”
根据原文“With her mother’s help, Yin learned how to take care of herself”以及“They tried almost every training course in Peng’an county, including violin and folk dance lessons. 【36题详解】
句意:但殷秋华在这些课程中都表现不佳。
every每个,后不能直接接of;any任何,用于否定句和疑问句;some一些;none没有一个,与of连用表示“……中没有一个”。根据原文“But Yin didn’t do well in…of them.”,此句为否定句,表达在之前尝试的所有课程里都表现不好的意思,所以用“any of”,故选B。
根据“The problem was either my daughter simply couldn’t understand what was being taught, the other children in the class had difficulty accepting her, or the teacher was unable to communicate with her”可知,直接引用了妈妈描述的问题,“simply”在这里用于强调她理解能力不足,根本无法理解所教内容,故选A。
根据“The problem was either my daughter simply couldn’t understand what was being taught, the other children in the class had difficulty…her, or the teacher was unable to communicate with her”可知,要么老师很难和她沟通,要么班上其他孩子对她接纳存在困难,故选C。

C To show the value of a catador’s work.
C. How to help these people in a creative way? D. How to turn everyday objects into art pieces?
56. Which of the following shows the right order of the things that happened?
a. A movie was made about Muniz’s project. b. Gramacho stopped receiving rubbish.
c. Dos Santos started working at Gramacho. d. Muniz made friends with some catadores.

58. When does the Hani Rice Terraces look the most beautiful in photographs?
A. In winter. B. From autumn to spring.
C. In late spring. D. During the summer growing season.
59. Why didn’t the Hani Rice Terraces come to light until the 2000s?
A. Because the government didn’t support it.

Little effort makes a difference
Hello, everyone!
Not every effort will be successful, but every effort is preparing for our success.
Effort is not just about achieving a goal. It’s about the journey of self-improvement and learning.
Once I had difficulty with my maths, but I didn’t give up. I spent hours doing maths exercises every day. I also asked my teacher and classmates for help. As a result, I made great progress in maths through months of effort.
Just as an old saying goes, “No pain, no gain.” This experience taught me that no matter how small the effort is, it can lead to great results. I think we should keep trying and face difficulties bravely in our life.
