We all want to be liked. Sometimes, this means we might say or do something that doesn’t feel right because we want to make someone else happy. However, it’s important to learn how to be truer to ourselves and become comfortable saying “no”. This is called setting boundaries (边界).
Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike. That means you will feel more comfortable to live in ways that express your true feelings. Dr Rekha Vara, a clinical psychologist who helps people care for their mental (心理的) health, shares her study that you can think of boundaries as a range (范围). Vara says, “The middle of this range is the healthy space. That’s the best, not too rigid (死板的) or too lazy. It’s not good to prevent ourselves from getting close to people. And it’s not healthy if you want to make everyone happy.”
Setting boundaries allows you to “protect” yourself. They help you feel safe and respected. If you don’t have boundaries, some people may make you uncomfortable because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable Vara says making others happy “can become a habit”, and then they hope you can do what they want every time. It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to tell others clearly about your boundaries—there’s nothing wrong with saying “no”.
Learning to set boundaries also helps us to respect other people’s boundaries and develop healthy relationships. Everyone’s boundaries are different and that’s OK. The things that are not a big deal to you might be important to others. Vara says, “You might not be too worried about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy being with your friends. Another friend might choose not to come because they are worried about the film choice. It’s important to find a balance in our friendships so that we should be open towards others and protective of ourselves, too.”
26.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By telling stories. B.By asking questions.
C.By using a saying. D.By showing something in common.

D.That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable about that.

And it’s not healthy if you want to make everyone happy.”
根据“Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike.”

A food chain is a way to show the relationships among living things in the nature. It shows the path the energy takes from the sun through producers and consumers to decomposers. Everything needs energy to live on.
A producer is a living thing that makes energy from the sun. It absorbs sunlight, turns it into energy and keeps it. A perfect example of a producer is a vegetable or fruit. These plants take in sunlight through their green leaves, produce energy, and keep it in the other parts of the plant, such as its fruit and flowers—what is most useful to consumers.
A consumer is a living thing in the food chain that eats producers or other consumers for energy. These consumers can be insects, animals and humans. Insects, like grasshoppers (蚱蜢), eat producers and take in their energy. Consumers can also eat other consumers. For example, consumers like lions and tigers often eat other animals below them in the food chain. In this way, energy can be passed to other consumers.
A decomposer is a living thing in the food chain that gets its energy from both consumers and producers by eating dead plants and animals. Ants and some other insects are good examples of decomposers. These living things eat dead plants and animals, take in the energy to live on and put new energy into the earth. Plants use the energy to make energy of their own to start the cycle again.
The food chain includes all living things on the earth and is difficult to understand. We can make an easy picture of the food chain by choosing just one group of living things. Here is an example of a simple food chain.
30.Which of the following living things may be a decomposer?
A.Butterflies. B.Bamboos. C.Cranes. D.Ants.
31.What does the word “absorb” mean in Paragraph 2?
32.Which of the following picture shows how the food chain works?
A. B.
C. D.
33.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Consumers are animals living on meat. B.Producers can only live on the sunlight.
C.Decomposers are dangerous to other life. D.Every living thing is important to the earth.
【答案】30.D 31.B 32.A 33.D
根据文章第四段“Ants and some other insects are good examples of decomposers.”
根据文章第二段“It absorbs sunlight, turns it into energy and keeps it.”
根据“A producer is a living thing that makes energy from the sun.”,“A consumer is a living thing in the food chain that eats producers or other consumers for energy.”和“A decomposer is a living thing in the food chain that gets its energy from both consumers and producers by eating dead plants and animals.” 故选A。
Sometimes our friends do things that make us sad, and we might want to talk to them about these things. But how can we make these talks easier? Here is some advice.
It’s important to have good evidence (证据) that there is a problem. The evidence should be something that you both agree on. Once you have evidence, you can explain how the problem affects you. Describe the problem with “I”. Saying “I feel hurt because you spend less time with me” is less accusatory (谴责的) than saying “You never spend time with me!”
It is necessary to stay calm during the talk. Getting angry could result in a fight. You could tell your friend that you feel a little worried about the talk. You can continue the talk after both of you become calm. Don’t try to show you are right all the time. It’s important to listen to your friend’s opinion. Don’t just concentrate on showing that you are right. Try to understand how your friend feels.
Listen and plan. You can cut down on arguments by listening carefully to your friend. Many experts say that planning what you want to say helps you to express yourself in a way that won’t cause trouble.
Be realistic. Remember that it’s not possible to solve difficult problems in just one talk. Think about what is possible to achieve in one talk. This will help you set realistic goals.
34.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.How you can find evidence that there is a problem.
B.Why you should talk with a friend about your problem.
C.Which problems between friends are important.
D.What you should do before talking to a friend about a problem.
35.What does the underlined phrase “concentrate on” mean?
A.Focus on. B.Dream of. C.Fight against. D.Agree with.
36.Which of the following is the writer’s opinion according to the text?
A.It is best to solve difficult problems in one talk B.Being a good listener in a talk is very important.
C.It isn’t a good idea to use “I” language in a talk. D.Stop talking right away if you become calm.
【答案】34.D 35.A 36.B
根据“The evidence should be something that you both agree on.”以及“Describe the problem with ‘I’.”
根据划线短语所在句“Don’t just concentrate on showing that you are right. Try to understand how your friend feels.” 故选A。
通读全文可知,文章多次提到“listen to your friend’s opinion”“listen carefully”。

People traveled to see the buildings, the food, the national dresses in foreign countries because they thought they would not be the same as those of their own countries in the past. 37 They all have their five-star hotels everywhere. They all have their famous fast food restaurants. Office buildings look the same everywhere, and most city centers are full of office buildings. And of course, people are driving the same brands of Japanese or European cars.
Then why is the foreign travel more popular nowadays? What do tourists hope to experience in a foreign country that they cannot experience at home? The answer could be that people could be very interested in the past.
38 Most people travel overseas to find out what foreign countries’ history and culture used to be like, not what they are like today. Tourists visit different kinds of museums in foreign countries so that they can learn their history and culture.
Every country also has its own beautiful places for tourists to visit. 39
The culture of a country means a lot. It is not just its old buildings, its works of art or beautiful places, but also the people who live in it. It is healthy to live around trees. Trees work as doctors and they keep us healthy.

Scientists have studied the healthy effects of trees on our minds. One effect of trees seems to be that they make people feel relaxed. 【答案】
例文
Pandas are one of China’s most famous animals. They live in forests and mountains in the southwest. Only about 1,600 pandas remain in the wild, and 340 live in zoos or research centres. Their numbers drop for two reasons. First, human activities like cutting trees and polluting water destroy their habitat. Second, baby pandas are very few.
To save them, we must act! Scientists build nature parks and do research to help pandas give birth. They care for baby pandas and train them. We can raise money to support these efforts.
Let’s protect pandas together—they need our help!

B.It’s all up to you, and I will do whatever you want.
C.We have different ideas about this and that’s not OK.
D.That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable about that.
29.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
A.Setting Boundaries—Being Honest to Say “No”

C.Setting Boundaries—The Best Way to Keep Healthy

This is why a country such as Thailand attracts millions of people. The tourists come mainly because of the friendliness of the people there. It is why the Pacific islands are also so popular. 40
A.It’s a nation’s history and culture that are main attractions (吸引力).
B.The friendly people make visitors feel welcome.
C.Finally, another attraction is its food.
D.At present, however, one large city is similar to another.
E.Their own special scenery would certainly attract tourists from other countries.
F.The sounds of birds, wind and rain are relaxing.

It is healthy to live around trees. Trees work as doctors and they keep us healthy.
Many scientists are studying how trees clean the air. For people in large cities, trees can be very important for their health. These days, cities are planting trees not just in parks. They are also planting trees along streets in order to help clean the air.
Some scientists also believe trees help more than just the air. Trees keep our bodies healthy as well. People in hospitals seem to feel better when they can see trees from their rooms. People with trees near their homes usually take more exercise.
Scientists have studied the healthy effects of trees on our minds. One effect of trees seems to be that they make people feel relaxed. Scientists did some research on city people in an area with few trees. After trees were planted on the street, people walked slower when going home. They said the area was much nicer.
Of course, another good effect is that doctor trees work for free!
