“I have something important to tell you!” Ava told her parents. “In school, we’ve been working on persuasive essays (议论文). My teacher said that in order to make people accept your idea, you have to have reasons and evidence (证据). My essay is called ‘Why I am Responsible and Ready for a Cell Phone’.”
It had been a problem for months. Ava’s parents told her she couldn’t have a cell phone until she was eighteen.
“A cell phone isn’t all fun and games.” they would say. “And, it is too big a responsibility for you to have one right now.”
But then, a week ago, Ava started working on writing persuasive essays at school. It was like lightning had gone off in Ava’s brain.
She’d worked on her essay for a week, coming up with all the reasons why she should have a cell phone. She even looked up some facts to help as supporting evidence. 40% of children in her age group have been introduced to (接触过) cell phones. 55% of parents in the country think it’s acceptable for a child to own a cell phone at her age.
“Well, Ava, that does make sense,” her dad said. “We’ll talk it over.” Ava wanted to jump up and down. But she was trying to show she was mature (成熟的) enough for a cell phone. So, she just smiled, nodded, and waited.
After a full week, her mom said,“Alright Ava, we are impressed by how much work you put into that essay and how mature you have become. So, you can have a cell phone.”
“Really?” Ava cried out. She couldn’t wait to show her friends and join their chat group. She spent a good hour that night texting with them, discussing their weekend plan.
On the weekend, Ava went to see a movie with her friends. It was not until Ava got home that she realized something was seriously wrong. Her phone was gone.
“Did you talk to the theater manager? Maybe someone turned it in!” her mom said. Ava breathed in. “I didn’t...”
In the end, her parents drove her back to the theater. Luckily, the phone was in the lost-and-found box.
Ava thought that maybe she wasn’t ready to have a phone just yet.

A food chain is a way to show the relationships among living things in the nature. It shows the path the energy takes from the sun through producers and consumers to decomposers. Everything needs energy to live on.
A producer is a living thing that makes energy from the sun. It absorbs sunlight, turns it into energy and keeps it. A perfect example of a producer is a vegetable or fruit. These plants take in sunlight through their green leaves, produce energy, and keep it in the other parts of the plant, such as its fruit and flowers—what is most useful to consumers.
A consumer is a living thing in the food chain that eats producers or other consumers for energy. These consumers can be insects, animals and humans. Insects, like grasshoppers (蚱蜢), eat producers and take in their energy. Consumers can also eat other consumers. For example, consumers like lions and tigers often eat other animals below them in the food chain. In this way, energy can be passed to other consumers.
A decomposer is a living thing in the food chain that gets its energy from both consumers and producers by eating dead plants and animals. Ants and some other insects are good examples of decomposers. These living things eat dead plants and animals, take in the energy to live on and put new energy into the earth. Plants use the energy to make energy of their own to start the cycle again.
The food chain includes all living things on the earth and is difficult to understand. We can make an easy picture of the food chain by choosing just one group of living things. Here is an example of a simple food chain.
37.Which of the following living things may be a decomposer?
A.Butterflies. B.Bamboos. C.Cranes. D.Ants.
38.What does the word “absorb” mean in Paragraph 2?
39.Which of the following picture shows how the food chain works?
A. B.
C. D.
40.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Consumers are animals living on meat. B.Producers can only live on the sunlight.
C.Decomposers are dangerous to other life. D.Every living thing is important to the earth.
【答案】37.D 38.B 39.A 40.D

根据文章第四段“Ants and some other insects are good examples of decomposers.”
根据文章第二段“It absorbs sunlight, turns it into energy and keeps it.”
根据“A producer is a living thing that makes energy from the sun.”,“A consumer is a living thing in the food chain that eats producers or other consumers for energy.”和“A decomposer is a living thing in the food chain that gets its energy from both consumers and producers by eating dead plants and animals.” 故选A。

There is an old Chinese saying—Dongzhi is as important as the Spring Festival. This dates back to the Qin Dynasty (朝). 42 However, as the special festival, Dongzhi wasn’t celebrated until the Han Dynasty.
43 That’s also true for Dongzhi. So it’s a festival that has to do with delicious food. 44 In the north, people enjoy dumplings. The tradition of eating dumplings is popular with them. 45 Mutton soup is also great. A bowl of hot soup would drive away the coldness. But whatever food they choose, the dishes for Dongzhi dinner table must be warming and healthy.

41.根据前文“On that day, the daytime is the shortest and the night is the longest.”及后文“But it begins the time ‘Shujiu Hantian’, which is believed to be the coldest 81 days in a year.”
42.根据前文“This dates back to the Qin Dynasty.”及后文“However, as the special festival, Dongzhi wasn’t celebrated until the Han Dynasty.”
43.根据后文“That’s also true for Dongzhi. So it’s a festival that has to do with delicious food.”
44.根据后文“In the north, people enjoy dumplings.”
45.根据前文“In the north, people enjoy dumplings. The tradition of eating dumplings is popular with them.”

Bees are very hard-working animals, and their greatest work is pollination. On one trip, they often visit 50 to 100 flowers. As they fly from one flower 49 another, they take pollen with them. This action helps plants 50 (grow). In fact, 51 their work, about 80 percent of the plants in the world cannot grow. For this reason, many scientists believe that bees are the 52 (importance) animals on this planet.
Bees are also one of the most interesting animals in the world. For example, they work hard together to make their homes. In order to store honey, they create honeycombs.
