My sister Jenny told me an unusual experience about a special test. She had it in the first year of her middle school.
It was a few minutes before the final 1 exam. Jenny and her classmates were in the classroom, waiting for their teacher Mr. Smith to come. 2 everyone worked really hard at history, some of them were still a little 3 as Mr. Smith was a strict teacher. When it was 8 o’clock, Mr. Smith came with the exam papers in his hand. He said, “I know how hard you have worked for this test and you all can do it 4 , so you can get a B if you don’t want to take the test.”
Many students jumped up to 5 Mr. Smith and left the classroom. Mr. Smith looked at the rest of the students and said, “Does anybody else want to get a B? This is your last 6 .” Two more students decided to go.
Jenny and seven other students were still in the classroom. Mr. Smith then handed them the papers. They all felt so 7 because there were only three sentences on the paper, “Congratulations! You get an A in this test. Keep 8 yourself.”
I think Jenny is so lucky because she had such a test and a good teacher. It is true that the students who do not believe in 9 are usually B students or maybe even 10 . The A students always believe in themselves. They have learned more and have become better people. All of us should remember what we can learn from the teacher.

Hi! My name is Adam and I’m a freshman in senior high school. Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big difficulty. The first week was a little 1 .
First, I had to think very carefully about which 2 I wanted to take. I spent hours looking through the course list, marking possible choices with a yellow marker and crossing out (删掉) ones that didn’t 3 my schedule, until my desk was covered in crumpled notes. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones: Maths, English, Chemistry, World History, and Chinese. I know that Chinese is a very 4 language, but I hope to be fluent and get an A when I graduate. My adviser recommended I sign up for advanced literature since I like English and I’m good at it.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn’t play well enough. During the tryout, I 5 an important pass that would have made a goal. The coach said I had courage but needed more practice, which hurt more than I wanted to say. There is no doubt that I was unhappy, but I won’t stop trying. I’ll find a way to 6 on my own so that I can make the team next year.
I joined a volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and 7 food to homeless people in the community. Last week, I was serving hot soup 8 the old man began telling me his army stories, and the work suddenly allowed me to meet more people from different backgrounds.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced course, 9 since some of them already seem to know the material really well, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m 10 to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.

Off the northwest coast of Malaysia, a group of islands called Langkawi sits upon the sea. It’s the destination (目的地) of our recent 1 trip. To be honest, it was exciting at first, but later, something bad happened. I lost one of my 2 , which nearly drove me crazy. But life was really amazing, I felt different at last. Let me share my trip 3 you.
Early in the morning, we jumped onto the boats excitedly; there were 7 boats in total for our whole class, 4 students in each boat. After our class teacher checked names of 28 students in our class, we set off. As the engine (引擎) of the boat started, snow-white bubbles (泡泡) came out from below the boat, and the soft wind rushed into my face, which made me 5 .
The 6 island we arrived at was called the Island of the Pregnant Maiden, whose name came from the mountains looking like a pregnant (怀孕的) lady. We were allowed into the water for about half an hour, and it was fun 7 my friends in the water. All was fine 8 one of my water shoes fell into the lake. So I had to do the rest of the trip with only one shoe on. At that moment, I’d say it was a heartfelt journey of pain.
Then we went to the second island which was 9 by different kinds of plants. When we first walked through the forest, I thought it was a nice walk. 10 with only one shoe, my foot came across either glass pieces or hot stones along the way. As the day went on, the land became difficult to walk along. 11 , I took every step in pain. Seeing this, one of my classmates Mary used a plastic bag and 12 own scarf to make a shoe for me. I was really moved. More importantly, something magical happened—I 13 a beautiful seashell (贝壳) the size of my hand along the way! I felt like I had found gold and all the pain was worth it. Now you see, life is full of ups and downs.
The trip was a valuable experience—the attractive sea views, the warm 14 and the beautiful seashell were heartfelt moments for me. I’ve learned an important lesson from that day, which is to not focus on the bad memories, but instead to remember the 15 feelings and value them.
