Many kids say that recess(课间休息)is their favorite part of the school day.
That's because recess gives them a break from the busy learning time.During this
time, they can relax, run, play, and talk to friends. But some kids in the United
States are not getting this break in the day.Recent research shows that this is not a
good idea.Kids need the break that recess gives.
First of all, physical activity helps the brain work better. There are chemicals in
the brain called growth factors(生长因子).These chemicals come out when kids
exercise during recess. They help keep the brain cells (healthy and help new
ones grow.
Doctors say that kids need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.Recess
makes sure that kids get some of that activity.Recess also gives kids a chance to
improve their social skills. On the playground, they learn to share and play with other
children.
Some people do not agree with giving kids more recess time. They have thoughts
about student safety during recess breaks. They worry that teachers can't watch over
kids,as teachers are busy preparing for lessons. They say that some playground
equipment (is dangerous.Others say there is not enough time in the school day.
The time for lining up,walking outside, and taking water breaks means less learning
time. They think that students should spend school time on reading, writing, and
math. But research shows that kids who get to play some during the day do better in
their main subjects than kids who do not.
People in some states (are now asking for more recess time for kids.A leader
in Connecticut wants schools in her state to give at least 50 minutes of recess each day.
Lawmakers in Arkansas recently passed a new law.It says every young student must
have a 40-minute recess break.A principal (in Arizona has started giving two
recess times for children in his school. He has been very happy with the results. His
teachers see students pay better attention to their studies.
As people learn about the value of recess breaks, more and more schools are
beginning to keep or add recess time.Experts think that this is a good thing for kids.

When Emma walked into an art gallery (and looked at paintings on the
wall, she suddenly felt calm,as if the noise of the city slowly disappeared. Many
people say they have had a similar experience.Visiting an art gallery can be a
wonderful and eye-opening experience. It introduces people to new works of art and
new ways of looking at the world.Recently, scientists discovered that art is not only
enioyable, but it can also be good for your health.
In their study,25 people viewed artwork at the Courtauld Gallery in London,
while the other 25 looked at pictures of the same paintings, but not at a gallery. The
results showed that the people who saw the real paintings in the art gallery felt less
stressed.Tests even showed some positive changes in their immune system(
)So,if art has such positive effects on people, should doctors suggest their
patients take trips to art galleries?
This new research is exciting. It is the first study of its kind to show that art has
a calming effect on the body and mind and can reduce stress. Therefore, doctors
should advise their patients to visit art galleries-why wouldn't they? There can be

msny remedies to health problems.and visiting an art gallery might just be one of
them.so it's worth trying.Nobody is saying that visiting art galleries will replace
medicine or make an illness go away, but it could work together with medicine to
help someone feel better. What's more,it may introduce more people to the joys of art
snd support local galleries at the same time.
However.the science behind this idea is still new.We cannot be sure if it works
for all people.Besides, even if visiting art galleries does help people's health in some
way, doctors should continue to do what they do best:giving high-quality medical care
and advice to their patients, not talking about art.At the same time, art galleries are
not for everyone-they can be crowded, costly,or simply not interesting to some.
Therefore, visiting a gallerv might be a helpful choice for some people, but it is surely
not the only way to stay healthy.Eating well and staying active are always good for
our health. The key is to find what works best for each of us.

D.To introduce the connection between art and health.
31.The words "remedies to health problems"in Paragraph 3 probably mean"
A.ideas about health problems
B.ways to solve health problems
C.effects of health problems
D.reasons for health problems
32.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A.Art can help people with illness more than medicine.
B.Doctors should suggest galleries instead of medicine.
C.Going to art galleries is the best way to reduce stress.
D.Art may be good for health, but it is not for everyone.
33.What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To ask people to care more about their health.
B.To suggest that scientists do more research on art.
C.To introduce a new finding and its effects and limits
D.To explain why the art and health study matters so much.

We read books every day.But have you ever heard of
augmented reality (AR)books? They are print books, but with
special AR parts. When you point digital tools like iPads or
smartphones at the page,'you can see 3D pictures, moving pictures,
or hear sounds. They appear on your screen and bring the story to life.
Recently, some studies explored how parents and children feel when they read AR
books. In one study,47 parents read an AR book with their children(4-9 years old)
for about 20-30 minutes.Most of them,35 parents,liked the 3D pictures and the
strong feeling of being inside the story. Some parents were also happy that they could
use a normal phone or iPad and did not need special AR glasses. But some parents
worried that aR parts might make children stop paying attention to the reading.
Researchers also studied children's experiences with AR books. In this study,38
children aged 8-10,with different reading levels and interests, took part. They read an
AR book alone or with a classmate. Many children enjoyed using AR.They liked
looking at moving pictures, using the iPad with the book, and sharing ideas or
laughing with friends. Some said AR books made reading more fun. However, some
felt AR books limited imagination or were "a little waste of time".
Another study looked at whether AR books help children understand text.In this
study, two groups of students aged 7-9 read the same book. One group used an iPad to
see the AR features ()while the other group read only the printed book. After
reading, students retold the story and answered questions. They answered questions
about details and deeper thinking. The researchers found that the students who read
AR books did better in two ways. They were better at retelling the story to someone
who didn't know it,and they also answered the deeper thinking questions better. But
both groups did a similar job of remembering details.
We are not sure that all AR books will support readers'ability to better
understand what they read.We hope that our research will influence AR book
