This happens a lot, especially when we eat out. Once a dish comes, instead of lifting our chopsticks, we take out our mobiles and click. Later, we post the photos online, waiting to get "likes". Then we check our mobiles from time to time during the meal, to see whether we get "likes" or not. We just cannot leave our mobiles for only a meal. Does that sound familiar to you? Do you do that often? If not, how do you feel when others do that when having dinner with you? A recent study suggests that what we are used to doing is not so good. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less delicious. To test this, some researchers(研究员) did an experiment(实验). Some people were asked to take photos before they could enjoy food. As a result, it showed that the more photos they took, . So why not stop taking photos and just enjoy the food in front of you? Besides the scientific result, there are also some other bad influences(影响) of taking photos of food before having meals, After posting the photos onto the Internet, one will not be able to control himself/herself and check his/her mobile many times. "Does everyone like my photos? I hope a lot of people like them!" It seems that your mobile secretly calls your name all the time, even when you are with real people. D Do you like writing by hand or with a keyboard? A new brain(脑) study at Norwegian University of Science and Technology shows that choosing handwriting instead of using a keyboard results in better learning and memory. "When you write your shopping list or class notes by hand, you simply remember what you wrote better later," said Audrey van der Meer, who did the study. 12 young grown-ups and 12 children took part in the study. Special machines were used to follow and record brain wave (电波) activities. Each person wore a special cap with over 250 electrodes (电极) on the head, and was asked to write by hand and use a keyboard. The sensors (传感器) in the electrodes picked up the activities that took place in the brain. Each examination took 45 minutes for each person. The results showed that the brain in both young grown-ups and children is much more active when writing by hand than when using a keyboard. According to Van der Meer, plenty of senses become active by holding a pen and putting it down on paper, seeing the letters written and hearing the sound made while writing. These build connection (关联) between different parts of the brain, opening the brain up for learning. Van der Meer believes that the results let us know the importance of children being asked to draw and write at an early age. "Learning to write by hand is a slower course, but it's important for children to experience the tiring step of learning to write by hand," she said. The hand movements used to form the shapes (形状) of letters are helpful in several ways. "If you use a keyboard, you use the same movement for each letter. Writing by hand needs control(控制)of your fine motor(精细动作) skills and senses. It's important to put the brain in a learning condition as often as possible," Van der Meer added. For example, you might use a keyboard to write an article, but you should take notes by hand during a class. ( )13. Which is the correct order of the study? ① Record and study the results. ② Put a special cap on each person. ③ Find 12 young grown-ups and 12 children. ④ Ask the people to write by hand and use a keyboard. A.② ④ ① ③ B.③ ② ④ ① C.③ ④ ② ① D.② ① ④ ③ ( ) 14. What is the result of the study? A. You can remember what you write better if you use a keyboard. B. Fewer people choose handwriting and more people use a keyboard. C. The brain is more active when writing by hand than when using a keyboard. D. It is easier to put your brain in a learning condition when you use a keyboard. ( )15. What does the underlined word "These" refer to (指的是)? A. The letters you are learning to write. B. The skills you use to write an article. C. The sense experiences when you write by hand. D. The different parts of the brain relative (相关的) to writing. ( )16. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Ways to take notes by hand. B. How to control your fine motor skills. C. Examples of using a keyboard. D. They can have different sizes, shapes and purposes. 26 But whenever they were built, it would have been a challenging(有挑战的)task! Mega structures such as the Great Pyramid, the Great Fall of China, can't be built by one person alone. Many people have to work together—people with different skills, in Maths and science. 27 It also needs people who can think in a different way. China is home to some of the world's most amazing bridges. One of these is the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. These skills are admired around the world. 29 One of them is the Central Bank of Kuwait Headquarters. This 235-metre-tall building is just like a boat. It includes eight gates so that people can enter and go outside from all sides of the building. It has a wonderful car park with space for 1, 264 cars, meeting halls, a theatre and a museum and so on. People have built mega structures for thousands of years, with creative(有创造力的)thinkers such as engineers using their skills to make them possible. In the future, will people want to build bigger, taller, longer, deeper mega structures? 30 Let's wait and see! A. The building of them needs people who can solve(解决) great challenges. B. For centuries, people have been fighting against water problems. C. Many countries usually choose Chinese groups to build for them. D. Some were built in ancient times and others are modern structures. E. Can you imagine what the mega structures of the future will be like? F.
