A new type of job is becoming popular, especially among young people. It’s called pet sitting.

①During the Warring States Period in ancient China, the state of Wei started a strong attack on the state of Zhao. Wei’s army surrounded Zhao’s capital city, Handan. Zhao’s soldiers were not strong enough to fight back, and food in the city was almost gone. The King of Zhao had no choice, so he sent a message to the King of Qi to ask for help.
②The King of Qi decided to help Zhao. He asked two generals, Sun Bin and Tian Ji, to lead the Qi army. Instead of going straight to Handan to fight Wei’s army, Sun Bin thought of a strategy: attack Wei’s own capital city, Daliang. He knew that most of Wei’s soldiers were in Zhao, so Daliang was almost undefended.
③The Qi army quietly moved to Daliang and started attacking it. When the Wei general heard that his capital was in danger, he quickly led his tired army back from Handan to save Daliang. On their way home, the Qi army, which was hiding nearby, surprised the Wei soldiers in Guiling. The Wei army was too tired to fight well, so they lost quickly. In this way, Handan was saved without a big, direct fight.
④This famous plan, called “Besieging Wei to Rescue Zhao”, teaches us that being clever and thinking carefully can be better than using only strength. It has become a well-known story in Chinese history, reminding people to solve problems with smart ideas, not just force.
9. Why did the King of Zhao ask the King of Qi for help?
A. Because Zhao didn’t have any food at all.
B. Because Zhao didn’t have enough soldiers.
C. Because Wei’s army surrounded Zhao’s capital city.
D. Because Zhao didn’t want to fight against Wei directly.
10. What does the underlined word “strategy” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. A tool used in war. B. A clever and careful plan.
C. A safe place to live. D. A group of brave soldiers.
11. Which is the correct order of the following events?
① The Qi army started to attack Daliang
② Wei’s army surrounded Handan.
③ The Qi army surprised the Wei soldiers in Guiling.
④ The Wei general moved his army back from Handan.
A. ②→①→④→③ B. ①→②→④→③
C. ②→④→③→① D. ①→③→②→④
12. What can we learn from the above text?
A. Go for your goal with all your strength. B. Keep fighting until the impossible is done.
C. Rise early and practice to achieve dreams. D. It is better to fight smart than to fight hard.
D
①Throughout human history, countless inventions have reshaped how we live, work and connect. While many see inventors as experienced lab adults, some useful creations came from curious, creative young minds. Let’s explore their stories.
②In 1873, 15-year-old Chester Greenwood got cold ears while skating. He asked his grandma to sew (缝) fur onto a wire loop (金属环) he made. The first earmuffs (耳罩) were born, and they were soon produced in his US hometown, providing local jobs for 60 years.
③Blind since childhood, Louis Braille found touch reading tools for blind students lacking in 1819. At 15, he adapted soldiers’ night-writing into the Braille system—a raised-dot code that lets visually impaired people read and write freely. It is still used worldwide today.
④In 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson had a happy accident: he left a mixed drink with a stick outside overnight. The cold froze it, and the first Popsicle came into being.
⑤Margaret E. Knight, another young hero, designed a life-saving device for paper bag machines after seeing a worker get injured, making factory work safer nationwide.
⑥These young inventors tell us age isn’t a problem for creativity. Anyone, no matter how young, can make the world better with careful watching, kindness and courage.
13. Why did Chester Greenwood invent earmuffs?
A. Because his grandma was good at sewing.
B. Because he was good at inventing things.
C. Because his ears felt cold when he was skating.
D. Because he wanted to make money for his hometown.
14. What can we learn from the text above?
A. All useful inventions were made by young people.
B. Louis Braille’s invention helps the blind read and write.
C. Young inventors need to work in labs to create new things.
D. Margaret E. Knight’s invention was born from a happy accident.
15. How is the text organized? (①= Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2, …)
A. B. C. D.
16. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce the history of some great inventions.
B. To explain how to become a successful young inventor.
C. To compare the inventions made by young and adult inventors.
D. To encourage young people to be creative and make inventions.

How Junk Data Harms a Digital Mind
Do you love fast food? Burgers, chips and sweets are tasty, but if you only eat them, you will feel sick. Your brain and body need healthy food ___31___ vegetables, fish and nuts to grow strong. Believe it or not, Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is just like a human child. It needs “healthy food” ___32___ (stay) smart too.
Of course, AI doesn’t eat with a mouth. Instead, it “eats” information—reading millions of websites and books to learn about the world. Good information makes it ___33___ (intelligence): it can answer questions, write short texts or help with studies. This is like eating ___34___ healthy meal.
But there’s much junk (垃圾) data online—fake stories, wrong answers and silly ___35___ (message). A new study shows something very worrying. When AI reads too much of this junk, it gets a kind of “brain sickness”. Scientists ___36___ (do) three small tests so far, and all of them have shown this bad result ___37___ (clear).
The AI becomes much slower in thinking quickly. Its ability to think gets ___38___ (bad) than before. It starts to make mistakes ___39___ loses memory.
The first and worst thing: the damage is permanent (永久的). The ___40___ (two) problem is that this damage is irreversible (不可逆的)—humans can get better by eating well, but AI’s damage cannot be fixed. Even good books can’t help it recover.
五、阅读问答 (共4小题,61-63每小题2分;64题4分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
An old saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” I learned its true meaning during my six-month exchange study in Russia last year.
One day, I invited Chinese friends to a local restaurant in Moscow. Excited after visiting Red Square, we chatted loudly to liven up the mood. But the waiter came over three times, asking us to speak softly. In China, hosts usually create lively atmospheres at meals, but in Russia, people keep quiet in public eateries to show politeness to others. That was my first taste of culture shock.
Later more shocks followed: I often felt homesick for Chinese food, missing the spicy taste that was nowhere to be found in Moscow; school life was different too—Russian classmates preferred independent study, while we Chinese students liked group discussions.
These experiences taught me that cultural differences are part of life. Instead of feeling confused, we should face them with an open mind. After all, understanding different cultures makes our world richer.

【45题答案】
【答案】例文:
Dear Mike,
I’m glad to hear from you. Thanks for your trust.
You asked me whether it’s good for teenagers to keep a pet. In my opinion, keeping a pet is a good choice. First, pets are good listeners. You can talk to them when you are unhappy. Second, taking care of pets can help you learn to be responsible. However, it takes time and money. You should think it over. If you decide to get one, you’d better choose a small animal like a dog.
I hope my advice will be helpful. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Yours,
Li Hui
