What would you do if your best friend and you have different ideas? At first, I didn’t know what to do when I found that my best friend Karina disagreed with me on some things.
When we first met in a summer camp, we got along so well.
But then something happened at a picnic. “Did you hear about the shopping center news?” asked one of our friends Levar. “They want to cut down trees to make room for a shopping center.”
“That’s terrible! We have to stop that,” I said.
“I disagree,” said Karina. “The shopping center would give new jobs to people in need.”
“But animals would lose their homes!” I said.
“I want people to have jobs, but it doesn’t mean cutting down trees.”
I wished Karina could agree with me about saving the trees, but she had her reasons for believing what she did. I was so angry that I didn’t talk to her for days.
Later, my mother knew it and said to me, “No two people are the same. You should respect each other. And no matter what happens, the difference doesn’t mean losing a friend.”
After listening to Mum’s words, I said sorry to Karina and we are still good friends now.

Is it hard for us to get up when it’s cold? The answer is probably yes. But life is quite different for some animals at this time. They hibernate (冬眠) for a long time when it’s cold or there is no more food to eat. Let’s learn some interesting things about them.
Snails work hard to get ready for hibernation. They stay in their shells when hibernating. The corners of walls or some other places like tree trunks are good choices for them. They don’t eat anything during hibernation. When it is very cold, snails can hibernate for several months.
What about bats? Some hibernate for weeks and some for months. While hibernating, they don’t need to eat, but they need to drink water. Some bats can get moisture around them using special parts of their bodies. Others might make their waste more concentrated (浓缩) to lose less water.
When turtles hibernate, they choose places like mud (泥浆) at the bottom of rivers or lakes. These places are cool, so they can stay alive even if it’s very cold outside. And staying in the mud can keep them safe from other animals.
These animals wake up after hibernation in spring. They start moving around again, looking for food and friends. It’s amazing how they can just pause (暂停) their lives for so long and then pick up right where they left off!
29.The writer raises the question at the beginning to ________.
A.get the readers’ answers B.show it’s hard for us to get up
C.introduce animals’ hibernation D.talk about the weather in winter
30.What do snails and bats have in common when hibernating?

Does life sometimes seem to be full of impossible problems? How many times, for example, do you find yourself saying things like “I really don’t understand this maths problem”, or “I can’t get into the school team”? Well, maybe it’s time to introduce yourself to the power of “yet”. By adding this simple word, you can change everything. “I really don’t understand this maths problem yet.” “I can’t get into the school team yet.” Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. You can imagine those things happening.
I read about a school that has changed the way it marks its students’ exams. The school found out that the old “pass/fail system” wasn’t helping students’ motivation (积极性). If you passed, then great, but those students who didn’t pass often felt like failures. So now students who don’t pass the exams will not see a big red F on their papers; they see a “Not yet” instead. That way the students feel that they are on a journey. They haven’t reached the end, but they know that they are going the right way.
This kind of thinking is part of what experts call “having a growth mindset”. People with a growth mindset don’t concentrate on failure. They aren’t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do. They enjoy the challenge and believe they can change. In contrast, people who just focus on the failure have what the experts call “a fixed mindset”. These people are always worried about failure and are happy to give up when things don’t go right. They don’t think that they are able to change. Clearly, it is better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset.
But don’t worry if you think that you have a fixed mindset. ★ Remember that it all starts with questioning the things you believe about yourself. Stop believing that you can’t or you haven’t and realize that you just can’t or haven’t yet. Once you start doing this, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it before. It’s one small but very powerful word.
33.The example in Paragraph 2 is to ______.
A.express a feeling B.describe a problem
C.show the result D.support the topic
34.According to the passage, which one of the following has “a growth mindset”?
A.Jack got an “A” in the exam. He was quite happy to tell his parents.
B.David failed in a competition, but he stayed confident and kept trying.
C.Jenny found it hard to work out the maths problem, so she gave it up.
D.Emma was refused by the school team. She didn’t want to have another try.
35.Which of the following can be put into ★ ?
A.Experts will help you grow up healthily in mind.
B.You can train yourself to develop a growth mindset.
C.Everyone has his own advantages and disadvantages.
D.You can change everything by adding the small word “yet”.
36.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.The Power of “Yet” B.Two Different Mindsets
C.Nothing is Impossible D.On the Journey with Yet

根据文章第一段“What would you do if your best friend and you have different ideas?”
根据文章第二段“When we first met in a summer camp, we got along so well.”可知,作者一开始和Karina相处得很好,很开心;再根据“I was so angry that I didn’t talk to her for days.”可知,作者因为分歧很生气,几天都不和她说话;最后根据“After listening to Mum’s words, I said sorry to Karina and we are still good friends now.”

A.How Snails Hibernate B.Animals and Cold Weather
C.Different Ways of Hibernation D.Human and Animals in Winter
【答案】29.C 30.C 31.A 32.C
文章开头通过提出“Is it hard for us to get up when it’s cold?”这一问题引出话题,随后表述“But life is quite different for some animals at this time. They hibernate (冬眠) for a long time when it’s cold or there is no more food to eat.”
根据第二段中“They don’t eat anything during hibernation.”
根据第三段中“but they need to drink water”可知,蝙蝠冬眠时需要喝水,后文提及“Some bats can get moisture around them using special parts of their bodies.”,结合语境可推测“moisture”与水相关,即“水分、水”。故选A。
文章开篇提出问题后引出“They hibernate (冬眠) for a long time when it’s cold or there is no more food to eat. Let’s learn some interesting things about them.”的主题,随后分别介绍了蜗牛“stay in their shells when hibernating”、蝙蝠冬眠时的补水方式、乌龟“choose places like mud (泥浆) at the bottom of rivers or lakes”冬眠等不同冬眠情况,最后提及“These animals wake up after hibernation in spring.”,全文核心围绕不同动物的冬眠方式展开。故选C。

【答案】33.D 34.B 35.B 36.A
根据“I read about a school that has changed the way it marks its students’ exams.”及“So now students who don’t pass the exams will not see a big red F on their papers; they see a “Not yet” instead. That way the students feel that they are on a journey. They haven’t reached the end, but they know that they are going the right way.”
根据“People with a growth mindset don’t concentrate on failure. They aren’t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do. They enjoy the challenge and believe they can change.”
根据“But don’t worry if you think that you have a fixed mindset.”及“Remember that it all starts with questioning the things you believe about yourself.”
根据“Well, maybe it’s time to introduce yourself to the power of “yet”. By adding this simple word, you can change everything. “I really don’t understand this maths problem yet.” “I can’t get into the school team yet.” Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. You can imagine those things happening.”及“It’s one small but very powerful word.” 故选A。

Tom writes good articles, and I think he is a(n) .
There are laws and more for them to live in.
【答案】 to protect giant pandas nature reserves
故填to;protect;giant;pandas;nature;reserves。
If we the ice, it water.
【答案】 heat turns into/melts into
根据“If we…” 故填heat;turns/melts into。
the world’s animals and plants rainforests.

Tie round the wound, and it firmly for 10 to 15 minutes.
【答案】 a piece of clean cloth keep pressing
“一块干净的布”可以用短语“a piece of clean cloth”表达。“按压”可用英文“press”表达。keep doing sth表示一直做某事,所以“一直按压”可以表达为“keep pressing”。故填a;piece;of;clean;cloth;keep;pressing。
