In March, the small city received about 4.8 million tourists. It is certainly not the only city that offers barbecue, or even the most famous one, but its seemingly sudden fame was steps in the making. Zhou Maosong, president of the Zibo Tourism Promotion Association said the popularity started from the crowd-gathering effect of cultural and tourism activities including a music festival. Then famous people tasted the barbecue and put their experiences online attracting young people, which led to a wave of students from neighbouring cities visiting Zibo. What better way to lure adventurous and hungry college students other than “tasty barbecue that makes you full within only 50 yuan!” However, Zibo did not fall into the trap (陷阱) of easy fame that dies fast where sellers cheat buyers on price and quality for the most profit (盈利) in the shortest time. A blogger on Douyin took an electronic scale (电子秤) to ten barbecue stands in Zibo to test if he would be offered less food. It turned out that not a single one was caught short of weight and some owners even offered him local snacks for free. Local people’s honest and friendly behaviour touched even more people online and again lifted the city’s popularity. Zibo’s successful story has inspired governments in other parts of the country to find their ways of supporting local businesses. 1.How many tourists visited Zibo in March? A.About 48,000. B.About 480,000. C.About 4,800,000. D.About 48,000,000. 2.What does the underlined word “lure” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Attract. B.Challenge. C.Follow. When they go through hard times, you probably wish you could pitch in but might not be sure how. Just wanting to support them is a good place to begin. Here are some ideas to consider. Your friends or family members may feel like talking about what they are going through, or they may not. If they want to share, you can help by listening. If they don’t, that’s OK too. You could also ask how you can support them. You could show them they are in your thoughts by making a card with a note inside, like “Thinking of you!” If possible, ask if they would like to do something together, like taking a walk, watching a movie, or eating out. If it’s a family member who lives far away, you can ask if they want to video chat or talk on the phone. You could also send them photos of your day to help them feel connected. People who care about you want you to keep your daily life as usual, even when they are going through something difficult. But there is something you can do. You just need to make sure what they really need. For example, if a classmate is ill in hospital, helping him catch up with classwork is better than doing the dishes, taking care of a pet, or cleaning the apartment. Remember that your feelings are important, too. It is normal to worry about someone you’re close to, and it can be helpful to talk to your parents, teachers, or someone you trust. D.Sharing your photos. 4.Which is the best way to help a classmate in hospital? A.Walking a dog. B.Making the bed. C.Washing plates. D.Sending notebooks. 5.What is the purpose of this passage? However, there are signs of improvement in the situation. According to a new study, the growth of homeless dogs in Shanghai has slowed compared with last year. Homeless dogs are living a peaceful life in communities in Shanghai. It shows that people in Shanghai and homeless animals may coexist for a long time. The hopeful change has not come without reason. Over the past year, the city and communities have been trying very hard to make the “coexistence” happen. According to a study last year, the homeless dogs’ population in Shanghai was between 3,000 and 5,000. The number of homeless dogs in communities had a close relationship with neighborhood management. For example, the improper feeding of homeless dogs and careless throwing of kitchen waste could increase the number of homeless dogs, as it was easier for homeless animals to get more food. Communities and local governments have taken action over the past year. Besides encouraging the proper throw of kitchen waste, they also set up notice boards and called on people to only feed homeless dogs at a fixed time and place. More importantly, they have been working to spread knowledge about homeless dogs and improve people’s understanding of homeless animals by promoting brochures (宣传小册子), picture books, meetings and more. However, there are still things that the city and people can do to keep peaceful coexistence. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.How does the writer develop the text? A.By telling a story. B.By asking a question. But new research (研究) shows it is also changing the sound of the earth’s oceans. Scientists say the changes in the sounds of our oceans and other waters influence many animals—from very small fish to huge whales. Sound travels very far underwater. For fish, sound is probably a better way to sense the environment than light. Sounds help fish and other animals survive (生存). Sounds also help some ocean animals find food and keep safe. For many animals, they use sounds to communicate with each other. But they can’t communicate normally because of noises that humans make. Too many noises from humans are making it harder for these animals to hear each other. The noises are coming from shipping traffic, fishing ships and other noisy human activities. The Red Sea is one of the world’s most important shipping passages (通道). It is full of large ships traveling to Asia, Europe and Africa. Some fish and other animals now leave the noisiest area. Also, the number of ocean animals has gone down by about half since 1970. In some parts of the ocean, fewer animals sing and call than in the past, and those voices are almost gone. When talking about threats (威胁) to the ocean, we often think about climate change and overfishing. But noise pollution is another problem we need to solve. If you want to do something for the ocean, think about how to make it quieter. Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than other ocean threats. You can turn down or turn off sound. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A.The research. B.The earth’s surface. C.The human activity. A.keeps some ocean animals safe B.keeps ocean animals quiet C.doesn’t travel very far underwater D.is better for animals than light 3.The large ships on the Red Sea hardly travel to ________. A.Asia B.Africa C.Europe D.America 4.The writer thinks people can solve ________ more easily. A.climate change B.noise pollution C.white pollution D.water pollution 5.In this text, what does the writer mainly want to tell us? A.How to solve noise pollution. B.How ocean animals communicate. C.How the ocean animals survive. D.What made oceans’ sounds change. 根据第一段“The human activity is changing the surface and the temperature of the planet. Every year, millions of tons of food are thrown away, yet many people still suffer from hunger. Reducing food waste is not only good for the environment but also helps solve world hunger. People often buy more food than they need, especially in wealthier countries. Supermarkets throw away fruits and vegetables that don’t look “perfect”. Restaurants serve large portions, and food that isn’t finished is thrown away. In poorer regions, food is sometimes wasted due to poor storage conditions and transportation issues. When we waste food, we also waste the resources used to produce it. Agriculture requires a lot of water, land, and energy. If food goes uneaten, these resources are used for nothing. In addition, food that rots in landfills produces methane gas, which contributes to climate change. According to scientists, if food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world! We can all take action to reduce food waste. At home, we should buy only what we need and store food properly. Restaurants can offer smaller portions, and supermarkets can sell “ugly” produce at lower prices. Additionally, food that can no longer be sold should be donated to food banks to help those in need. If everyone makes small changes, we can make a big difference. Fighting food waste is a simple way to protect the environment and ensure everyone has enough to eat. 1.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Wasting food costs restaurants a lot of money. B.It increases the prices of groceries. C.It makes people eat unhealthy food. D.It only affects wealthy countries. 4.How can restaurants help reduce food waste? A.By only offering expensive meals. B.By reducing the quality of food served. C.By selling food past its expiration date. D.By providing smaller portions. 5.What does the passage suggest about food donation? A.Food that cannot be sold should be given to food banks. B.Only new food should be donated to people in need. C.Supermarkets should stop selling old food. For some kids, the answer is the same every day—a school uniform. More than 10 years ago, 3 percent of all public schools in the US required that students wear uniforms. Now, that number is closer to 10 percent. Some people support the policy (政策), hoping that uniforms will encourage students to focus on their work. Opponents, however, say students should be allowed to express themselves through their clothing. Yes! ◆“My school has a strict uniform policy. At school my friends and I don’t have the need to discuss clothes, and we enjoy just being together and learning. The best thing I like about our uniform is the style, especially the shirts and sweaters,” said seventh-grade Clifton Harris. ◆“It helps save parents’ money,” a mother said. ◆“I think uniforms help students focus on their studies rather than their clothes,” Megan Mannion said. Her school, Rankin Elementary School, has had a uniform policy since 1995. No! ◆“I think students should choose their own clothing styles, rather than be told to wear a specific uniform,” eighth-grade Kaylie Vilayvong said. Her classmate Wade Fleetwood agrees. “Kids should be allowed to wear different styles of clothes.” ◆Some parents are worried about the expense. Most schools offer uniforms at a price between $16 and $26. “What’s the school going to do for people who can’t afford them?” asked a father. ◆“Adults make their own clothing choices and are free to express themselves through their look,” a teacher said. “Students should be allowed to choose their own clothing, too.” 1.What percent of public schools in the US ask students to wear uniforms? A.Far less than 3%. B.Nearly 3%. C.Nearly 10%. D.More than 10%. 2.What does the underlined word “Opponents” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese? The sea ice loss and the Arctic ice melting (融化) caused by climate change have increased much in the last ten years. So they have pushed down the number of polar bears and seals while polar bears depend on sea ice for hunting seals. According to WMO, temperatures on Antarctica (南极洲) just hit 18.3℃, which is higher than the record of 17.5℃ in March, 2015. Moreover, temperatures in this area have warmed about 3℃ over the last 50 years. Although such temperatures might be considered suitable for a picnic or a hiking trip, this is Antarctica we are talking about. It is home to the most inhospitable environment on the planet because it is supposed to be a terribly cold place. In fact, the average temperature of its central area is -57℃. Besides, many places are experiencing the bad weather this summer. Australia is undergoing its worst drought (干旱) since the 1930s, leaving forest fires burning so long and causing many deaths. Meanwhile in Europe, crops (庄稼) in the northwest are suffering the driest weather in the past 80 years. Recently West Texas in America has also gone through its worst drought in more than 70 years, while floods have hit Eastern and Southern China. “Climate change is bad for us human beings, which causes direct health problems. I’m afraid there will be more common events like the one that 30,000 to 50,000 persons died in Europe in 2003 due to the heat wave there,” Professor Schwartz said. “It will also cause more air pollution, diseases and lack of clean water and so on.” 1.What doesn’t bring down the number of polar bears according to this passage? A.Hunting. B.Climate change. C.The sea ice loss. D.The Arctic ice melting. 2.What do you think of Antarctica? A.It’s comfortable to live in. B.It’s friendly to live in. C.It’s unhealthy to live in. D.It’s unfit to live in. 3.Which place experienced drought this year in the passage? A.Egypt. B.America. C.South Korea. D.China. 4.What can you get from this passage? A.Antarctica is a good choice for a hiking trip. B.Terrible weather led to wildfires burning in Europe. C.Lots of people lost their lives because of the heat wave. D.The temperatures on the Antarctica hit the highest in March, 2015. 5.What is the main idea for this passage? A.The whole planet is drier and drier. B.Antarctica is warmer and warmer. C.Climate change is getting worse and worse. D.The number of polar bears is smaller and smaller. 根据文章第一段“The sea ice loss and the Arctic ice melting (融化) caused by climate change have increased much in the last ten years. In fact, the average temperature of its central area is -57℃.”可知,南极洲是地球上最不适宜居住的地方,因为它非常寒冷,中央地区的平均气温是 -57℃,所以可以推断出南极洲不适合居住。故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Recently West Texas in America has also gone through its worst drought in more than 70 years”可知,今年美国得克萨斯州西部经历了70多年来最严重的干旱。故选B。 4.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“I’m afraid there will be more common events like the one that 30,000 to 50,000 persons died in Europe in 2003 due to the heat wave there”可知,2003年欧洲因热浪导致3万到5万人死亡,所以可以得出很多人因为热浪失去了生命。故选C。 5.主旨大意题。文章开头“Terrible weather events are harming the planet, and experts warn of even greater results to come.”就点明了主题,即糟糕的天气事件正在对地球造成危害,专家警告未来情况会更糟,接着文章具体阐述了气候变化带来的各种影响,所以文章的主旨是气候变化越来越严重。故选C。 You are visiting the Eiffel Tower in France, but the next second you are in Thailand. Then, suddenly you may have dinner in America. But you are not dreaming. This is what might happen in the near future. With the help of virtual reality (VR,虚拟现实) technology, a lot of changes are taking place in our life. VR is a computer technology that makes an environment. It allows users to see and even interact (互动) with it. By wearing a pair of VR glasses, you can experience a lot of things without stepping out of your room. “The most interesting part of VR is that it offers an immersive experience,” said Wang Bing, leader of the Chinese entertainment company Funshow. “That’s why VR movies are popular among users. You become a part of the story.” VR is also changing how we learn. For example, we can study western countries by “walking” through the pyramids (金字塔) or seeing dinosaurs (恐龙) up close in science class! VR makes learning more fun and helps students remember information more easily. VR can also be used in some other ways. It can help to train workers before they have to work in highly dangerous environments. VR also helps patients with acrophobia (恐高症). How does eating meals right benefit your health? Do you have a balanced diet? Nutritionist (营养学家) Lambert believes it’s more important what you eat than when you eat. “The foods you choose to eat will have an effect on your whole health,” she says. A balanced diet, Lambert adds, should include a handful of carbs (for example, rice, pasta), an outstretched handful of protein (chicken, tofu), two handfuls of vegetables, and a thumb-sized part of fat (olive oil for cooking), but how many meals you choose to eat and their size depend on personal preference, lifestyle, and health goals. When did you last eat? “Timing is a key factor,” says Hyde, a nutritional therapist. “Looking at the best times to eat can not only help you control weight, but also reduce inflammation (炎症) and help you sleep better.” Intermittent (间歇性的) fasting (禁食) has become popular over the years, meaning that you can eat food within a 10-hour time window and fast for 14 hours overnight. Another nutritionist, Mark, says, “You should stop eating two hours before going to bed.” ________ If you’re getting home late, Mark suggests a smaller, lighter dinner, such as a bowl of soup. The sounds you make while chewing (咀嚼) have an important effect on the amount of food you eat. Researchers carried out an experiment, and the results suggest that people are likely to eat less if they hear themselves eating. So Elder said, “Chew each mouthful, enjoy it and think of the taste, then you start to realize when you’re full.” In a word, whether you try to control the food you eat or the time you eat it, you should choose the most suitable eating style that can continue, rather than it being an instant return. 1.What can we know from Paragraph 2? Can we see them in our daily life? Are they good or bad for human beings? Microplastics are very small. According to National Geographic, microplastics are usually less than five millimeters (毫米) in size. But they bring big problems. This small size lets them go everywhere, even in water and air. They don’t break down easily and can stay in the environment for hundreds of years. Microplastics are very small pieces of plastic. They come from many places. For example, about 60 percent of material made into clothes is plastic. Every time when the clothes are washed, they shed microplastics. When water bottles and other big plastic products are left outside, they break down slowly into microplastics. These microplastics can be bad for our health and even cause cancer. In August, the Conversation reported that scientists found microplastics in people’s brains for the first time. They may hurt brain cells (细胞) and change how the brain works. Wild animals are also at risk from microplastic pollution. Each year, up to three million tons of microplastics end up in the ocean. Since they are too small to be seen, fish may eat them by mistake and become very sick. To deal with the problem, scientists think the best way right now is to make and use less plastic. As students, we can reduce plastic things in our daily life, such as using glass or metal cups instead of plastic bottles and cups. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.The writer starts the text by _______ . Zibo city in Shandong Province has stormed the Internet since late February for its local barbecue. D.Disappointed and annoyed. 5.Where is the passage probably taken from? A.A science fiction. B.A travel guide. C.A food advertisement. D.A news report. Sometimes people who are close to you are facing an illness or other big changes in their life. You can also ask questions about anything you don’t understand. This is a better choice than searching for information on the Internet. 1.What do the underlined words “pitch in” mean in Paragraph 1? A.forget B.help C.throw D.worry 2.What can you do if your friends want to share their thoughts? A.Make a card. B.Think of them. C.Listen to them. Recently I have heard many teenagers say the relationship with their parents is not as good as before. Your point of view on life may be greatly different from that of your parents. Let’s see what you can do to have a good relationship with your parents. Love and respect (尊重) your parents. What they have done is good for you. They may often think you should not do something. There must be a good reason. Do not be angry about it or fight with them. Talk to them and find out the reason. Tell them your point of view. You may also realize that you want to be independent. You choose what to eat for breakfast by yourself. You buy your clothes by yourself. These changes will cause a clash (冲突) between you and your parents. To avoid this, you should talk to them and listen to them. When you talk to your parents, keeping yourself calm is important. It might take some time for your parents to realize that their little kid is growing up and has his or her own opinions. In a word, solve any problems you may have faced with your parents. Talking to each other is the key. Love them, for everything that they have done for you. After doing this, they will in turn respect you for turning into a responsible adult. 根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。 1.What is the teenagers’ problem recently? A.They don’t like eating breakfast. Andrew Holleman, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The land was wet and forested, and made a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants. It made the perfect place for him to study and get to know nature. Suddenly it was announced that the “empty” land would be improved by a lot of houses on it. The plants would be removed, the animals would run away and most would probably die. When he heard about the news, he was not happy. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted. Andrew wrote down clearly all the research he had done about the area, and how the houses would affect the local environment. He sent letters to members of the local government and television reporters. He also called on his neighbors to oppose the building of the houses. Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older. Andrew’s teachers described him as kind, shy and active. His classmates also admired (钦佩) how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went door-to-door to ask the people to sign, who did not want the houses to be built. In only one month, he got the signatures (签名) of 250 people. In the end, the land remained (保留) a safe place for birds, other animals and plants that belonged there. Andrew won many prizes for his brave and great work to stop the houses from being built, and help save the environment. 1.The passage is mainly about ________. A.was praised (表扬) by his teachers and classmates B.always wanted to act like a person much older C.got in no touch with the reporters D.was good at going door-to-door 5.We can infer (推断) that ________. A.the land would remain as it used to be B.the open land would be built into a park C.the neighbors would have to move away D.Andrew would soon work for the government A growing number of homeless animals have been seen in cities in recent years, raising public worries about possible problems with humans. D.To encourage people to get along well with homeless animals. The human activity is changing the surface and the temperature of the planet. C.How the ocean animals survive. D.What made oceans’ sounds change. Food waste is a growing global problem. D.People should avoid donating food to avoid waste. “Forget about Lionel Messi, go watch the village super league (联赛)!” Some Chinese people might say to a football fan like this. The village super league, or “Cun Chao” in Chinese, is a soccer game among different villages in Rongjiang County, Southwest China’s Guizhou Province. It was held from May 13th to July 29th in 2023. Twenty teams took part in it. The matches were so popular that at least 1 million people watched them on the field and more than 50 million online. The football players come from different backgrounds. They are sellers, drivers, students, workers, etc. They come from different ethnic (民族的) groups such as Miao, Dong, Shui, Han and Yao. Their ages are from 15 to over 40 years old. But when they put on their team uniforms and walk onto the field, they fight for their common love—football. Like “Cun Chao”, another village sports event called “CunBA” was also popular. The matches were held in Taipan Village of Taijiang County, Guizhou Province. Four teams competed in the finals. The winner of the first “Gorgeous Countryside” Basketball League came out on March 27th. Over a hundred thousand basketball fans went there to watch the exciting matches. Both “Cun Chao” and “CunBA” enjoy a long history in Guizhou. Football in Rongjiang dates back to the 1940s and basketball in Taipan dates back to 1936. At that time, there were no special fields for villagers to do sports, but hard conditions stopped no one. D.The temperatures on the Antarctica hit the highest in March, 2015. 5.What is the main idea for this passage? A.The whole planet is drier and drier. B.Antarctica is warmer and warmer. C.Climate change is getting worse and worse. D.The number of polar bears is smaller and smaller. You are visiting the Eiffel Tower in France, but the next second you are in Thailand. It makes them think they are standing on the top of a tall building. However, VR technology still has a long way to go. Users report feeling sick while wearing VR glasses. Maybe it could take a period of time for VR to be widely used around the world. 根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。 1.Which one can help users experience many things at home? A.VR eyes. B.VR shoes. You are what you eat. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so. However, anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s some advice. Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule. First set your time for eating, sleeping, sports, etc. Then decide a good and enough time for studying. _________. A weekly schedule may not make you the best, but it will make you know what is happening to your time. Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. It may be a desk or a corner of your room, only things for study. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, keep your mind on the subject. Make good use of your time in class. Listen to everything the teachers say. Listening in class carefully means less work later. Taking notes will also help. Have daily study. When you get home from school, read your notes before doing your homework. Read the text that your teacher is going to teach the next day.
