In the sand franco bay area, there are a total of four lines that are known by colour, yellow, orange, red and blue. All lines travel through, and Frances co. And service runs from five o'clock AM to midnight. An interesting fact is that only one third of the stations are below street level. The rest are either at street level or travel high above the freeway. The average speed of the trains is thirty five miles per hour, but they can go up to eighty miles hour. The cost to ride the trains depends on how far you want to go. Many people who live in the suburbs take the train into san Francisco to go to work. This means that the system is very crowded from seven o'clock AM, two, nine o'clock AM and again, from three o'clock PM to six o'clock PM. But outside these times, the subway system is not very busy. This can be great if you want to get a seat, but IT also means that there are fewer trains. During rush hour, trains come every five to ten minutes, but in the middle of the day and late at night, trains come every twenty to thirty minutes. A little mix-up between two Bentley's restaurants-one in Nova Scotia, the other over
1,500 miles away in Alabama-has turned into a sweet international apology.
Darcy and Laura Clarke, the couple behind Bentley's Burgers and Fries in West
Chezzetcook,Nova Scotia, recently opened their mail to find a handwritten note and $40 in
U.S.cash from a stranger in Alabama.According to reporting from CBC,the mysterious sender
had accidentally placed a take-out order with the wrong Bentley's-and felt so bad about
never picking it up that he or she mailed money across the continent to make it right.
Darcy had taken the original order on October 1st:two cheeseburgers and fries. The caller
had a southern accent, but with tourists passing through all the time, nothing seemed unusual.
When the food sat unclaimed for over an hour, the Clarkes simply gave it to another customer
and moved on.
The next morning, though, this Alabamian sat down with a piece of loose-leaf paper and
wrote what might be the most polite long-distance mix-up apology in history.
"Obviously,I called the wrong restaurant,"the letter said."I hope the amount enclosed is
enough for the cost of my embarrassing mistake. My sincerest apologies."
Not only was the money enough for the meal-it even left a little extra.Laura has told
CBC that they plan to use the remainder in the happiest way possible:adding it to their summer
ice cream shop so they can hand out free treats to kids next season.
Darcy has shared the story on his Facebook page, where it has drawn millions of
comments cheering on this anonymous act of honesty.Darcy says he plans to send a
thank-you package to the return address-complete with a Christmas card and some Bentley's
seasoning.
At a time when U.S.-Canada chatter can feel divided, this tiny moment of accountability
and kindness has brought people on both sides of the border a much-needed smile.
24.Why didn't the caller pick up the food?
A.He was too busy to collect it.
B.He forgot about the meal.

In most AI's history,machines have not truly"figured things out"'on their own.They have
learned-but only after humans first engineered the rules that allow them to learn.Even in
reinforcement learning, where an Al agent trains itself by trial and error, the backbone of the
process -the learning algorithm ()-is always human-designed.But a new study
published in Nature hints that this division of labor may not last long.Researchers have created
an AI system that discovered a completely new way to learn, without being told how to do it-
and then outperformed the best human-designed algorithms on some of the hardest tests in the
field.
The researchers created a vast population of AI agents, dropped them into numerous
complex environments, and gave them an initial learning rule. Each agent tried to solve its
tasks.Their successes and failures were then evaluated by a separate AI system,a kind of
meta-intelligence(元智能),which acted like evolution itself..This meta-network did not learn
the tasks. It learned how to change the learning rule itself. After each generation of agents,it
adjusted the rule so the next generation could adapt more successfully.Over many cycles,a
new learning rule emerged. The researchers named the discovered rule DiscoRL,and a specific
implementation(),tested on 57 Atari environments,was nicknamed Disco57.
The team used it to train a fresh AI agent and evaluated its performance against some of
the strongest human-engineered algorithms ever developed.Disco57-trained agents
outperformed all human-designed reinforcement algorithms. And in the hardest tests, where
strategies must be invented on the fly, again,DiscoRL showed state-of-the-art performance,
despite never being clearly programmed by humans for these domains.
This really matters because doing well on unseen tasks is the closest thing AI has to a
definition of"true intelligence."It demonstrates not memorization but transferable learning.
DiscoRL wasn't just running a rule invented by researchers-it was using a learning strategy
invented by itself.
28.Why does the author mention "the backbone of the process"?
A.To prove AI can figure out tasks independently.
B.To confirm AI's ability to reinforce task-learning.
C.To present the fact that AI can divide backbones efficiently.
D.To illustrate that AI machines do missions programmed by humans.
29.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The organizer of the study.
B.The process of the research.
C.The implication of the research.
D.The application of the study.
30.What does the underlined word"state-of-the-art"'in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Totally different.
B.Particularly disadvantaged.
C.The best available.
D.Arranged in a beautiful way.
31.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To recommend a book on AI research.
B.To present a discovery in AI development.
C.To clarify the classification of AI agents.
D.To honor an emerging AI computing company.

There's a perception that today's youth are extremely narcissistic()-
fame-obsessed,selfish and vain.In fact, studies show this is a common view of young people,
regardless of the times we live in.But are young people really more narcissistic?New research
reveals that,as people age, they do tend to become less narcissistic.
Narcissism is a multi-dimensional personality, which captures features beyond pride and
self-absorption.Emerging research suggests there are three dimensions of narcissism:agentic,
antagonistic and neurotic.Agentic narcissism involves the need for admiration and feelings of
superiority.Antagonistic narcissism is characterized by the lack of empathy towards other
people. Finally, neurotic narcissism refers to being sensitive and having difficulties regulating
one's emotions.
In order to fully understand narcissism, the new study looked at all the three features.
They analyzed data from 51 longitudinal studies(meaning studies which follow participants
over time),all of which measured how participants'levels of narcissism changed.
To select the studies, the team used the American Psychiatric Association (APA)
PsychInfo database of papers, searching for terms including "narcissism"and "narcissistic".
Each article was reviewed by two coders. The coders independently selected the studies based
on details including sample size, gender ratio, and the country in which the sample was
collected.
This procedure generated a dataset which comprised of 37,247 participants(52%female)
ranging from ages 8 to 77 years.
The researchers found that all three dimensions of narcissism declined across the life span.
There was a small decline for agentic narcissism and a moderate reduction for antagonistic and
neurotic narcissism. The researchers also found that people's narcissism relative to that of their
peers remained consistent over the life span.In other words, people who were more narcissistic
than average as children remained more narcissistic than average as adults.
32.What is the finding of the new study?
A.Old people are less narcissistic than they were young.
B.Young women are more narcissistic than young men.
C.People are more narcissistic these days than in the past.
D.Young people are becoming more narcissistic than before.
33.Which behavior might be narcissistic?
A.Feeling less important than others.
B.Admiring all the people around.
C.Laughing at his own embarrassment.
D.Flying into a temper every day.
34.How did the new study obtain the data?
A.By conducting experiments on their own.
B.By handing out questionnaires in the lab.
C.By consulting previous studies of other organizations.
D.By observing participants and recording their responses.
35.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.Narcissism,A Fashion Among Us.
B.We Get Less Narcissistic With Age.
C.How to Avoid Becoming Narcissistic.
D.Children Remain More Narcissistic.

Tom grabbed his bat and glove."See you later,Mom.I'm going to Jerry's."With these
words,he raced out of the door and slammed it behind him.Summer vacation just began. The
boys planned to play baseball every day,so they could make the freshman team.
Seeing Jerry waiting outside,Tom lifted his bat onto his shoulder and asked,What are you
doing?Where's your stuff?"Jerry shook his head,"I have to clean Mr.Smith's garage before I
can go.With his broken arm,he can't do it himself. My mom always volunteers me to help the
Smiths. They're kind of old.""Okay,"said Tom."I'll help you. We'll get done quicker working
together..”
The boys went down the block to the Smiths'and got started. They put boxes that were
scattered (around the garage floor on shelves before they swept. As Jerry lifted a big box
onto a shelf,it fell off and with it fell an envelope. He picked up the envelope and found it wasn't
sealed. He opened it,inside which were lots of one-hundred-dollar bills.Gasping in
astonishment,Jerry pulled out a handful of bills and showed them to Tom.
"Where did you get that?asked Tom.Jeny pointed to the shelf, explaining,"It just fell
down when the box fell. There must be a couple of thousand dollars here."He looked past Tom
to the opening garage door.'Nobody is around. If I take some,I bet no one will ever know,"
added Jerry, uncontrollably picturing the bat and glove in McGroger's Sports Store that he had
longed for.
Tom frowned and shook his head."Are you crazy? That's stealing.""Well,I do a lot of
chores for them and don't get paid. It's not really stealing;it's kind of payment for my hard work."
Jerry defended himself."Forget about it.You're better than that."Tom grabbed the money from
Jerry's hand, stuffed it back in the envelope and put the envelope back on the shelf."Come on!
Let's get done and go to the park,"Tom urged.

A Possible version:
Dear Jack,
It is thrilling to hear from you.Hearing that you are interested in our jogging break,I am
delighted to introduce it to you in detail.
Jogging break is a traditional daily routine in our school, which lasts throughout the winter.
We go jogging twice a day,at 9am and 3pm,each session lasting 30 minutes.Every class
stands as a square team and queues up along the track on the playground, one after another,
forming a big circle.Instead of competing fiercely,we run to the happy rhythmic music at one
pace,with joy and cheers.
Jogging break is beneficial to us,both physically and mentally. It helps to clear our minds
after a long time studying.Refreshed and recharged for the next class,we becomemore
energetic and concentrated.Meanwhile,it boosts teamwork spirits and cultivates perseverance.
I do wish you could come and go jogging with us!
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】18.C19.A20.C
【原文】The subway system in San Francisco serves the transportation needs of about five
million residents, with 45 stations across a dozen cities and towns in the San Francisco Bay Area.
There are a total of four lines that are known by color:yellow, orange, red and blue. All lines
travel through San Francisco, and service runs from 5:00 a.m.to midnight.
An interesting fact is that only one third of the stations are below street level;the rest are
either at street level or ravel high above the freeway. The average speed of the trains is 35miles
per hour, but they can go up to 80 miles an hour. The cost to ride the trains depends on how far
you want to go.Many people who live in the suburbs take the train into San Francisco to go to
work. This means that the system is very crowded from 7:00 a.m.to 9:00 a.m.and again from
3:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m.,but outside these times, the subway system is not very busy. This can be
great if you want to get a seat, but it also means that there are fewer trains.During rush hour,
trains come every 5-10 minutes, but in the middle of the day and late at night, trains cone every
20-30 minutes.
