When 36-year-old Andy Duran decided to return to his favorite high school hobby — skateboarding, the only trouble he expected to have was his own ability to get back on the skateboard after such a long time. However, the 340-pound skateboarder soon realized that was the least of his problems.
Duran's problems began even before he stepped on a skateboard. He couldn't find anything for fat skaters. What Duran did find was the belief that plus-size people should not be skating. Determined to do something to change the image of plus-size people in sports, Duran set up Chub Rollz — a skating and skateboarding community for overweight skaters. He knew that not only did he need to get back into it to prove people wrong, but he needed to create a safe space where others could have representation as well.
To encourage plus-size people to take part in the fun sports, Duran created a list of recommended products for fat skaters. He also hosted roller skating and skateboarding classes to teach beginners.
After an article about his thoughts in the San Francisco Chronicle, Duran received lots of messages from strangers thanking him for giving them the courage to take up skateboarding. He has also been contacted by some skateboard brands offering to create larger clothing sizes and been offered free equipment by skating organizations like Skate Like a Girl.
Though encouraged, Duran believes a lot more needs to be done to get rid of body image stereotypes “I want to see more changes in communities. Maybe skate shops create a more welcoming environment for all types of skaters. Or boards are made in a variety of strength and sizes. Everyone is making thinner, lighter products, but sometimes we need those heavy-duty choices to stay available,” he explains.
For those hesitant about taking up their desired activity due to their body size, Duran has this to say: “Be kind to yourself. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean you can't be it.”
24. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The skateboard. B. His hobby.
C. His ability. D. The time.
25. Which of the following is the main reason for Duran founding Chub Rollz?
A. He couldn't find suitable skateboarding clothes and boards for fat skaters.
B. He wanted to encourage more people to take up skateboarding as a hobby.
C. He hoped to attract media attention to report his story.
D. He aimed to challenge the idea that plus-size people shouldn't skate and give them a sense of belonging.
26. Which word can best describe Duran?
A. Generous and helpful. B. Inspiring and creative.
C. Adaptable and easy-going. D. Talented and considerate.
27. Which is most likely Duran's belief?
A. Everyone has a gift for sports. B. No one is too fat to enjoy sports.
C. Fat people do deserve social concern. D. Skateboarding is most suitable for fat people.
C 25. D 26. B 27. B
根据文章第一段划线词that前文的内容“When 36-year-old Andy Duran decided to return to his favorite high school hobby — skateboarding, the only trouble he expected to have was his own ability to get back on the skateboard after such a long time.(当36岁的Andy Duran决定重返他高中时最喜欢的滑板运动时,他认为会遇到的唯一麻烦是,在这么长时间之后,自己是否有能力重新踏上滑板)”可知,划线词前文提到担心的是自己是否有能力重新踏上滑板,故此处划线词that代指前文中的“his own ability to get back on the skateboard after such a long time (他重新踏上滑板的能力)”,故意思为:然而,这位体重340磅的滑板手很快意识到,能力问题其实是他所有问题中最微不足道的一个。
根据文章第二段“Determined to do something to change the image of plus-size people in sports, Duran set up Chub Rollz — a skating and skateboarding community for overweight skaters. He knew that not only did he need to get back into it to prove people wrong, but he needed to create a safe space where others could have representation as well.(为了改变人们对超重人群参与运动的刻板印象,Duran决定行动起来,他创立了Chub Rollz——一个专为超重滑手设立的轮滑与滑板社区。他知道,他不仅需要亲自回归滑板运动来证明人们的偏见是错误的,还需要创建一个能让其他人也找到归属感和认同的安全空间)”可知,Duran成立Chub Rollz是为了挑战“胖人不应该滑板”的观念,并给他们一种归属感。故选D。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“To encourage plus-size people to take part in the fun sports, Duran created a list of recommended products for fat skaters. He also hosted roller skating and skateboarding classes to teach beginners.(为了鼓励超重人群参与这项有趣的运动,Duran为胖滑手们整理了一份推荐产品清单。
根据文章最后一段“For those hesitant about taking up their desired activity due to their body size, Duran has this to say: “Be kind to yourself. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean you can't be it.

The world has been changing very quickly since the introduction of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Generative AI now helps write stories, create art and answer questions, and it can even copy people’s voices. It’s being used in schools, offices, music and movies. Even the Oscars (奥斯卡奖) are changing because of AI.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has updated its rules, saying films that use AI are now allowed to win awards. So even if a movie uses AI to help with writing, editing or voices, it can still win Hollywood’s biggest prize. The Academy explained that using AI will not help or hurt a film’s chances of getting nominated (被提名), although human creativity and input are still the things that matter most. “AI is just a tool,” said Academy president David Rubin. “What truly makes a film great is the human story behind it.”
The use of AI in film became a talking point after this year’s Oscars, when Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his work in The Brutalist. In the film, both Brody and his co-star Felicity Jones had to speak Hungarian (匈牙利语), a very difficult language to pronounce. According to the film’s editor David Jancso, AI was used to perfect their speech. “They did a wonderful job, but we also wanted to perfect it so that even locals will not notice any difference.” Another Oscar-winning film, the musical Emilia Perez, used AI to improve the singing of the actors.
The use of AI is becoming more common in the film and music industries. But not everyone is happy about it. During the 2023 Hollywood strikes, many actors and writers spoke out about AI, saying they were worried it could take away their jobs. Some worried that studios might use it to write scripts instead of hiring real writers, and others feared their voices or faces could be copied by AI without their permission. Industry experts suggest that while AI can assist in production, it cannot replace human creativity and emotional depth that audiences connect with.
28. What does the Academy say about AI in films?
A. All films must use AI.
B. AI films cannot win Oscars.
C. AI is more important than humans.
D. AI doesn’t change a film’s chance to win.
29. How does the passage show the impact of AI on the film industry?
A. By presenting the history of AI.
B. By focusing on technical details.
C. By giving examples of AI in films.
D. By comparing AI with traditional methods.
30. Why were some Hollywood workers unhappy about AI?
A It completely changed Oscar rules.
B. It might make them lose their jobs.
C. It made their voices sound strange.
D. It made movies win too many awards.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI in Hollywood: Good & Bad
B. AI in the Oscars: Rules & Impact
C. AI in Film-making: Future & Possibilities
D. AI in the Film Industry: Creativity & Success

根据第二段“The Academy explained that using AI will not help or hurt a film’s chances of getting nominated (被提名), although human creativity and input are still the things that matter most. (学院解释说,使用人工智能既不会增加也不会减少电影获得提名的机会,尽管人类的创造力和投入仍然是最重要的。)”可知,学院认为人工智能不会改变电影获奖的机会。故选D项。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“In the film, both Brody and his co-star Felicity Jones had to speak Hungarian (匈牙利语), a very difficult language to pronounce. According to the film’s editor David Jancso, AI was used to perfect their speech. “They did a wonderful job, but we also wanted to perfect it so that even locals will not notice any difference.” Another Oscar-winning film, the musical Emilia Perez, used AI to improve the singing of the actors.

根据第一段“The world has been changing very quickly since the introduction of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Generative AI now helps write stories, create art and answer questions, and it can even copy people’s voices.

A key part of starting to exercise is choosing when to work out. Morning, afternoon, or evening: Which time is best?
Morning workouts trigger the release of endorphins (内啡肽), uplifting one’s mood following exhaustion, boosting energy levels, alertness, and focus.
But alas, early exercisers may not be able to achieve peak performance. Stiffer muscles, fewer stored energy reserves from overnight fasting, and a slightly cooler body temperature in the morning add up to cut off exercise output. Therefore, more exercisers might prefer working out in the afternoon.
“The best window for explosive athleticism seems to be between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.” Shawn Arent, chair of the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina told CNN. For example, in one study, young men instructed to cycle to exhaustion at a set difficulty were able to ride 20% longer in the afternoon compared to the morning. Exercise itself may also be more efficient in the afternoon. A small, 12-week study focusing on pre-diabetic and diabetic men found that afternoon training produced slightly more beneficial metabolic effects and resulted in a little more fat loss compared to morning training.
Finally, some folks may decide to work out later in the evening. Studies centered around this time of day tend to focus on whether or not nightly exercise negatively impacts sleep quality. Gathered research suggests it does not and, instead, actually improves sleep. This finding comes with a big asterisk, however. Intense exercise performed within an hour of one’s bedtime absolutely will make it more difficult to fall asleep. For this reason, most exercise experts recommend at least 90 minutes of downtime between the conclusion of an exercise session and attempting to fall asleep.
Whether morning, afternoon, or evening, it is ideal if exercise timing remains somewhat consistent, research has found. “For example, a competitive marathon runner will exhibit the best performance when his/ her exercise training sessions occur at the same time-of-day as the marathon.
32. What’s the advantage of working out in the morning?
A. Peak performance.
B. Best exercise output.
C. Concentrated attention.
D. Ideal metabolic effects.
33. If your bedtime is 10 p.m., when should you end your exercise?
A At 8:00 p.m. B. At 9:00 p.m.
C. At 9:30 p.m. D. Any time after work.
34. What does the example of the marathon runner illustrate?
A. Consistency in workout timing can enhance performance.
B. Marathon runners should only train in the afternoon.
C. The time of a race is more important than training.
D. Morning is the best time for all endurance sports.
35. What is the author’s primary purpose in writing this text?
A. To criticize the habit of morning exercise.
B. To persuade readers to exercise in the afternoon.
C. To promote a new fitness program based on circadian rhythms.
D. To explain the pros and cons of exercising at different times of day.
C 33. A 34. A 35. D

根据倒数第二段“For this reason, most exercise experts recommend at least 90 minutes of downtime between the conclusion of an exercise session and attempting to fall asleep (出于这个原因,大多数锻炼专家建议,锻炼结束与试图入睡之间至少留出90分钟的休息时间)”可知,如果入睡时间是晚上10点,锻炼需在晚上8点半前结束,A选项“在8点钟”符合题意。故选A。
根据最后一段“Whether morning, afternoon, or evening, it is ideal if exercise timing remains somewhat consistent (无论早晨、下午还是晚上,锻炼时间保持一定的规律性都是理想的)”以及“a competitive marathon runner will exhibit the best performance when his/ her exercise training sessions occur at the same time-of-day as the marathon (当马拉松运动员的训练时间与比赛时间一致时,他们会表现出最佳状态)”可知,该例子说明锻炼时间的规律性能提升表现。故选A。

第三句提到“…help you make friends…”
根据第二段第二句“…take up a lot of time.”有些爱好,如集邮和园艺都需要花费很长的时间,但“…can be done at your own pace and do not require any extended time.”
该段最后一句提到“…our local library or phone book should also have information…”
与F选项中first—hand knowledge相符。且F项中提到的interview意为“采访、访问”,与该段第一句中的“Talk with other people”意思相近,故选F。
文中第五段第二句提到“Challenge yourself to try a new activity you are interested in for a week or so.”

Sumi is a single mother, whose daughter Anna has always been called “Number 23”. Every time the school published exam results, Anna would always end up in the 23rd position among 50 pupils. Always 23, no matter what topic or term. Every time Sumi heard that moniker (绰号), she became concerned.
Sumi ran a service firm planning small events — outdoor short journeys for staff and their families or weekend parties. The discussion nearly always focused on their children as most of her staff were parents. You know how it goes — one parent discussed their child’s piano honors, while another boasted (夸耀) about math Olympiads or leadership responsibilities. Sumi would simply sit there, softly nodding, feeling uncomfortable. While others were honoring these great youngsters, all she could think about was Anna and her moniker, Number 23.
One day, Sumi and Anna were invited to a nice get-together. The adults gathered around a big round table, and as the lunch came to an end, someone playfully asked the youngsters what they wanted to be when they grew up. One after another, the children gave their bold, ambitious answers — to be a pianist, to be a famous actor, to start a business and make tons of money. The adults clapped and praised each one.
Anna didn’t answer. She was more interested in quietly helping out — bringing cups of soup, handing cookies around. She was just in her own little world, gladly helping.
Then the same person who raised the question looked at Anna and added, “Hey, our Anna hasn’t told us yet. What do you want to be when you grow up?” Anna paused (停顿). Then she smiled and said, “I want to be a teacher. I love little kids. I love singing and playing with them.” And suddenly, the whole room just…became quiet. It hit Sumi hard. It was like her heart got caught in her throat.

Later, on the journey back, they were held up by traffic. Sumi turned to Anna, her eyes soft. “Honey, your dream is wonderful,” she said gently. Anna tilted her head, confused. “But I’m not as good as others at exams,” she murmured. Sumi took her hand, “Being kind and loving is far more precious. The way you helped everyone today made you the brightest kid there.” Anna’s face lit up, and Sumi felt a weight lift from her chest.
Not long after the get-together, Sumi got a phone call from Anna’s teacher. “Mrs. Sumi, I must praise Anna,” the teacher said excitedly. “She spends her break helping classmates who fall behind, especially the little ones. It is her patience and warmth that have made our class much more united. Grades aren’t everything — she’s a natural teacher and a joy to have.” Sumi smiled through tears, finally proud of her “Number 23”.

Determined to do something to change the image of plus-size people in sports Duran set up Chub Rollz — a skating and skateboarding community for overweight skaters.

C By giving examples of AI in films.
D. By comparing AI with traditional methods.
30. Why were some Hollywood workers unhappy about AI?
A. It completely changed Oscar rules.
B. It might make them lose their jobs.
C. It made their voices sound strange.
D. It made movies win too many awards.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI in Hollywood: Good & Bad
B. AI in the Oscars: Rules & Impact
C. AI in Film-making: Future & Possibilities
D. AI in the Film Industry: Creativity & Success

33. If your bedtime is 10 p.m. when should you end your exercise?
A. At 8:00 p.m.
