Stacy Dean,an official at the US Department of Agriculture, was inspired by a visit to Watkins
Elementary,in Washington,D.C.Students grow vegetables in their school garden. They also roll up
their sleeves in the school's kitchen to participate in a FRESHFARM Food Prints class, which
integrates cooking and nutrition education.
"Who's next?"asks instructional coach Regina Green,as kids throw vegetables into the pan
and the smell of fresh ginger and onions fills the air."We grew these in our garden,"Jessie Gibson,
one of the students, says proudly. Then he measures and pours dry ingredients into a bowl.
"Our family has tried new things because of the program,"says Catie Kelley, whose two
children have participated in the FRESHFARM program."They come home with the recipes,"
Kelley says"It's fun because it's things that we don't usually make at home,"so it has encouraged
them to try novel combinations. She says the kids take more of an interest at the grocery store to
identify foods they've tried in the program.
Dean wants to have the science around healthy eating integrated.A block to scaling up these
(外研社)高二英语(三)第3页(共8页)
types of programs is money. The program relies on grants and receives some federal funding, but
it's not enough to expand the program to all the schools that could benefit.
In fact, there are other problems. At a time when diet-related disease is a leading cause of death,
and unhealthy eating habits are rooted in the US culture,it's unrealistic to think that a cooking
curriculum could overcome such a sweeping, societal problem."We know from years of evidence
that we need multiple things to come together to support healthy eating,"says Angela
Odoms-Young,a professor of maternal and child nutrition at Cornell University.
Despite these challenges, programs like FRESHFARM can help kids expand their choices by
introducing them to new tastes. At first, many kids are turned off by the bitter taste of greens. But
through the magic of cooking, processing the onions, and blending in fresh ginger, kids can be
inspired.

Are you a fan of spending your lunch breaks in a park?Or do you walk your dog in a park each
morning and evening?Well,if you do,we have good news for you:Studies have confirmed that
spending just 20 minutes in a park every day will make you happier and less stressed-regardless of
whether or not you're exercising while you're there.
A recent study from University of Michigan suggests that spending at least 20 minutes
wandering or sitting in a place where you're in contact with nature significantly lowers stress levels.
"Our study shows that for the greatest payoff,in terms of efficiently lowering levels of stress, you
should spend 20 to 30 minutes sitting or walking in a place that provides you with a sense of nature,"
says lead researcher Mary Carol Hunter."You don't have to travel to the wildlands.Getting out of
an office block and sitting next to a tree can be enough.
Meanwhile, another study by King's College London researchers finds that being outdoors,
seeing trees, hearing birdsong, looking at the sky,and feeling in contact with nature are associated
with higher levels of mental well-being.In some cases, these beneficial effects impact people
positively for up to seven hours afterwards.
The latest research, published today by Aarhus University,Denmark, suggests that children
who grow up with greener surroundings have up to 55%less risk of developing various mental
disorders later in life.
The results are perhaps unsurprising.Multiple studies have previously highlighted the benefits
of nature on a person's mental health and emphasized the need for designing greener cities for the
future and protecting our existing parks. However, the challenge facing cities is that planners and
(外研社)高二英语(三)第4页(共8页)
developers are eager to replace green space with residential and commercial buildings.
28.What will Mary Carol Hunter most probably advise us to do to reduce stress?
A.Put some flowers in the office.
B.Spend 25 minutes in nature each day.
C.Go to wildlands once a week.
D.Do exercise each morning at home.
29.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The challenge facing cities.
B.The healing effects of trees.
C.Nature's impact on efficiency.
D.The lasting influence of green space.
30.What message does the author seem to convey in the last paragraph?
A.The conclusion of the studies is not reliable.
B.The studies have ground-breaking significance.
C.The urban planning is going in a wrong direction.
D.Cities will become greener and healthier in the future.
31.How does the text start?
A.By asking questions.
B.By analyzing data
C.By conducting surveys.
D.By making comparisons.

About halfway through the new ad for "the thinnest iPad ever",almost every creative
instrument artists and consumers have used over the years-from record players to books and
cameras-一is flattened by a powerful hydraulic press(液压机).But for me,the ugliest thing about
the ad is the destruction of the musical instruments:a piano,a guitar,a drum and a trumpet.
Perhaps, the ad is meant to communicate that this tiny, thin iPad can replace them all.You can
make your music with it.You can paint with it.You can play games on it.You can take your photos
with it.So you can finally destroy all those things that have been so burdensome, like the massive
piano and messy paint.
But these are not practical items.Nobody owns a piano because it's practical.Actually,it's one
of the least practical things you can own.It is so heavy that it can damage your floor. If you happen
to get a new place, you don't just need movers for it.You need special movers. You own a piano
because your beloved ones sit down and play it.Such shared moments will not and can not be
replaced by iPads.
You can make beautiful music and digital art with an iPad.But that art should be made
alongside other music, other art,not at the cost of pianos and paint. If you think of digital artistic
creation as an opportunity to shatter sculptures or bottles of paint, you never understood art at all,
and you never will.It doesn't demand to destroy what is loved in order to run after the fantasy that
you can fit everything that matters into your pocket.
In certain circumstances,I am worried. For example,I am worried about the costs of art and its
creation. But I am not worried at all that art made by humans will ever be replaced by "the thinnest
iPad ever".
32.What does the new iPad ad intend to tell its viewers?
A.It can do a lot of things.
B.It will not be easily damaged.
C.Artists can store their information in it.
D.Customers should throw away their ugly stuff.
33.What does the underlined word"shatter"in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Create.
B.Purchase.
C.Break.
D.Exchange.
34.What is the best title for the text?
A.The New iPad Will Put Art in Danger
B.Art Won't Be Flattened by the New iPad
C.The Costs of Art and Its Creation Are Rocketing
D.The New iPad Ad Is Depressing but Successful

Building a healthy family relationship is essential for families of all types.Without a healthy

things when they aren't around.Everyone needs some time alone, and respecting privacy is one of
the things that build solid relationships.

family sporting league or read a book together. It can be challenging to make time for families,
creating regular family rituals, such as fun events.39 Spending regular time together is what
makes a family a tight unit.

One Friday in January,I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me as I noticed my students'
disinterest in reading.During silent reading time,I often saw them yawning()or looking
blankly()at their books.Their lack of enthusiasm was obvious, and it troubled me deeply.I
knew the power of a good book and the worlds it could open, and I was determined to make a
change. Therefore,I decided to take a brave step to cultivate()a love for books in my
classroom.
As I thought of possible solutions,I suddenly remembered my local community library,a place
that had always drawn many neighbors to read and connect. The library was always filled with
people of all ages lost in their reading, discussing books, and participating in community events.
This memory inspired an idea.If a community library could create such a welcoming atmosphere,
why couldn't I create a similar space in my classroom?
That very weekend,I set to work.I carefully selected my favorite books from my personal
collection, ranging from thrilling adventures to heartwarming tales, and even a few classic novels.I
arranged the books neatly on a shelf in a corner of the classroom, placing a soft carpet to create a
welcoming reading area, aiming to draw my students into the world of books.
On Monday morning,as my students walked into the classroom, they noticed the new addition.
"What's this,Mr.Johnson?"asked Emily,her eyes widening with curiosity."This,my dear students,
is our very own class library comer,"I announced with a smile."You can borrow any book you like,
at any time. There's no need for formal check-outs.Just take a book, enjoy it,and bring it back
when you're done..”
Doubtful words filled the room, but I could see a little light of interest."Really? No rules?"
questioned Mark,a student."Well, there is one rule,"I replied."Treat books with respect and share
them with your classmates."
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then I invited students to visit the class library corner.
With time going by,my efforts seemed to pay off.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
Then I invited students to visit the class library comner.Emily was the first to pick up a
book, her fingers gently touching the cover of a classic novel."This book looks interesting,"
she exclaimed.Soon more students joined in,hesitantly at first. Then, they picked up their
favourite books and settled on the soft carpet with growing enthusiasm. The once skeptical
expressions were replaced with interest and excitement. To my relief, the classroom, once
filled with bored sighs during silent reading, was now characterized by quiet anticipation and
shared discoveries.
With time going by,my efforts seemed to pay off.The library corner became the most
popular spot in the classroom.Students began to exchange recommendations, discussing their
favorite characters and plot twists with newfound passion. The transformation was
remarkable. My students'enthusiasm for reading grew so much that they started bringing
their own books to add to our collection, proudly contributing to our shared library.

important thing I learned was to make sure to apply for a passport months in advance.I got
mine right before I was scheduled to leave, because I waited until the last minute!Secondly,
if you are flying,be sure to book a plane ticket far ahead of time so you can get a fair price.
Thirdly,my another travel tip is to be sure you pack lightly. You will be taking that luggage
around with you everywhere, and it gets heavy quickly!Last but not least,I had some great
times exploring the local culture.I was trying all the new kinds of food and went to special
cultural events, like special dance performances and street festivals. If you follow these tips,I
think you'll have an easy and rewarding experience!
