The most notable rule is designed for students.Every afternoon at 4:30,Mr.Li stops serving other

Mr.Li also aims to be highly efficient. To save time,he has a signature phrase that all his
customers know well.Politely,he always says,"Please open your plastic bag."This simple request
helps him pack the chicken cutlets more quickly,so the hungry students don't have to wait for too long.
It's a small rule, but it makes a significant difference. And he even has an amusing rule regarding quality.
If a chicken cutlet isn't cooked to perfection,he gives it to the customer for free.He wants every
customer to get the best-tasting food from his stall.

If someone were to ask me what it is like to be a student in today's society,I would probably
answer them something like this:Being a student in today's society is not always easy.
The grown-ups often tell us that we don't know what pressure is.But we as high school students
have our own levels of pressure. For example, all school activities require high grade points. Then,
getting your homework turned in on time seems simple, but you still hope to have a life outside of
school as well. Many students in their high school years start their first job,so now you have school in
the mornings, followed by responsibilities needing to be taken care of at home and then you're o to
work.By the time you are done there, you are too tired to finish your school work, but you stay up late
to try and return to school feeling sleepy the next day. What good is that?
Let's not forget about peer (pressure. All high school students meet with it at some point
in their lives.High school can be a place where students are made fun of,singled out and pointed at.
My point is,it is a whole lot more challenging to be a student in high school than grown-ups
believe. Our pressure may not include paying bills or taking care of a family, but I'm sure if grown-ups
in our lives could go back to school today, they would be surprised at how much it has changed.
I don't want you to think for a minute that there aren't good moments and memories while we are
students. My mum always tells me to enjoy it while I can.I know that the world outside of school is
often hard and that the responsibilities are serious. That's exactly why I know that the attention I give to
my future is important in leading me to a career that will allow me to contribute to society.
28.What adds to the pressure on students?
A.Part-time jobs.
B.Parents'high expectations.
C.Social responsibilities.
D.Feeling sleepy the next day.
29.What does the author mean to do in paragraph 3?
A.Provide a solution.
B.Introduce a new topic.
C.Give another example.
D.Explain high school life.
30.How does the author feel about high school life?
A.Happy and relaxing.
B.Challenging but meaningful.
C.Boring and painful.
D.Lonely but memorable.
31.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To share school life experiences
B.To give some advice to students.
C.To make a comparison of different thoughts.
D.To improve people's understanding of high school students

Many people confuse hard-working people with workaholics().How could a person tell if
he/she is a workaholic?A workaholic works long hours,at the cost of personal relationships and health.
When not working, they're thinking about work.Work influences their mood:When work is going well,
they're up;when work is going less well, they're down.
Working,or simply being busy, can be a hard habit to break. When workaholics aren't busy
working-or doing something related to work-they feel anxious and ashamed. They hang onto jobs
for dear life and do everything they can to make sure they're needed.
There is a link between health problems and workaholism.Just because work itself is a respectable
pursuit (doesn't mean that an addiction to it is any less harmful than other sorts of addictions.A
number of studies show that workaholism has been connected with a wide range of health problems,
such as anxiety and heart disease.
Besides health problems, being a workaholic brings other negative e ects as well.A study
published in the American Journal of Family Therapy found that working too much badly influenced a
worker's marriage. This isn't surprising, since if you're married to your work it can be di cult to be
married to anything or anyone else. There have also been studies looking at the influence of workaholic
parents on their children and the news isn't good.Grown-up children of workaholic fathers experienced
more anxiety and a weaker sense of self.
However, there are also many positive respects to working hard and to an increasing devotion
)to career.Hard work can bring great rewards. For many,it's how they develop feelings of self-worth,
confidence and purpose. If you have a workaholic in your life, you might point out the things he or she
is missing out on while at work,whether it's a child's soccer game,a good book,or a yoga class.Seek
to understand why the person feels the need to work so much and support them in finding a solution.
32.What can we infer about workaholics from paragraph 1?
A.They put work in the first place.
B.They usually have a life outside work.
C.They are under pressure from work.
D.They win respect from their workmates.
33.What are paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly about?
A.Bad results of workaholism.
B.Reasons for being workaholics.
C.How people deal with their addictions
D.How hard-working people differ from workaholics.
34.What can we do to help workaholics in life?
A.Force them to join family activities.
B.Reward them for their hard work.
C.Help them find self-worth and confidence.
D.Try to understand and support them
35.What is the author's attitude towards working hard?
A.Doubtful.
B.Obiective.
C.Negative.
D.Curious.

Tim was a senior high school student who loved giving nicknames (to his classmates.

The classmates didn't like Tim's behavior at all.Lisa once told Tim sadly,"Please don't call me
Big Glasses'anymore. It really hurts my feelings."Mike also warned Tim,"If you keep calling me
Fatty',I won't talk to you."But Tim paid no attention to their words. He thought it was all in good fun
and often laughed when he called others by those nicknames.

he tried to join a group of classmates, but they would simply drift away.Tim felt a bit lonely, but he still

One afternoon,Tim stayed in the classroom to finish his math homework.Sam,whom Tim
regarded as his good friend, came in with two other boys.Tim didn't make a sound,so they didn't
notice him.He heard Sam say,"Tim is so boring. He only knows how to give foolish nicknames to
others.I call him 'Nickname Freak'behind his back."The other boys laughed.Tim's heart sank.He
finally understood how hurtful those nicknames were and how impolite and disrespectful his behavior
was.

That night, Tim could barely sleep. He kept thinking about what Sam had said and the sad faces of his classmates when he had nicknamed them. Early the next morning, Tim made a decision: he would change. When he got to the classroom, Lisa was reading a book. Instead of saying “Big Glasses”, Tim said politely, “Hi, Lisa.” Lisa looked up, surprised. Then Mike came in, and Tim greeted him, “Morning, Mike.” Mike was also shocked. Tim took a deep breath before saying to both of them, “I’m sorry for giving you bad nicknames before. I won’t do that anymore.”
17. After Tim apologized, something nice happened. Lisa smiled and said, “It’s okay, Tim. We’re glad you realized that.” Mike nodded and added, “Yeah, let’s be friends again.” Soon, other classmates heard about Tim’s apology. During the break, some students came to talk to Tim. They chatted about homework and hobbies. Tim felt happy because he was no longer lonely. Day by day, Tim always called his classmates by their real names. He also learned to care about others’ feelings. In the end, Tim built a positive and respectful relationship with his classmates, and he truly understood the importance of mutual respect.

W: Yes, that’s right. My friend’s father is organizing the event, so we’ve got free tickets.

W: I actually find dolphins much more interesting, so I thought last night’s one was better. The next one’s about bears, which should be great.
M: Yeah, I can’t wait. There is one problem with the series though.
W: Oh, what’s that?
M: I really can’t find any problem with the camera work, but I think whoever wrote the music shouldn’t be asked to do it for a nature series again. It’s a bit annoying, especially when I try to focus on the story.

(Text 8)
M: Sally, tell me something about your gap year.

W: Actually, I had to. My family are not rich, so I had to work to pay for my university courses.
M: And did you enjoy that?
W: Hmm, it was OK. The pay was not that good, and the work itself was not creative, but I got on well with the people I worked with. So, do you feel a gap year is a good thing?
M: Yes! It was a great chance to see the world before I went to university.
W: You’re lucky, Rob!

M: Have you ever been on a hot-air balloon ride?
W: No, I haven’t.
M: It’s really fun — you get great views of the city and the countryside. You should definitely add it to your list.
W: Right, OK, hot-air balloon ride.
M: Have you thought about joining a drama club? You could perform in a play.
W: Well, that’s a challenge! I’ve never performed in a play. Anything else?
M: Here’s another idea. Have you ever been to a film festival?
W: No, I’ve never done that, but I’d like to.
M: And here’s another one. I know you care about animals. Why don’t you start a local group to raise money for wildlife?
W: Yes, that’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
(Text 10)
M: Good morning, everyone. If you ask me which city I really want to visit, it’s Rome, the capital of Italy. It’s a city that has always attracted me because of its culture. I’m particularly interested in its architecture since it has examples from all major European styles of building. Besides, it was the capital of the Roman Empire, so it has a wonderful collection of public buildings from that time.
What I think is great about Rome is that many of the beautiful and historic buildings are still in use, as galleries, public offices and even houses. They are not all locked up as museums, so it’s really living history there. Even though it’s an expensive city to stay in, I’d like to go there for at least a month, as there’s so much to see and do. During my time there, I’d have to be careful that I didn’t spend too much on Roman food! Plus, I’d like to find a cheap hotel. It would probably be in the centro storico, the old center of the city, probably within walking distance of the River Tevere. Most visitors to Rome would agree that it is a very special place but for me, it’s Europe’s most historic and romantic city.

根据第二段中“The most notable rule is designed for students. Every afternoon at 4:30, Mr. Li stops serving other customers and reserves that time exclusively for students from the nearby school. Why does he do this? He says he has made a promise to the students to always have a warm snack ready for them when their classes end. 27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“However, people flock to his stall not just for the tasty food. They come because his stall operates under some really clever and unique rules. (然而,人们蜂拥到他的摊位不仅仅是为了美味的食物。他们来是因为他的摊位有一些非常聪明和独特的规则)”、第二段中“The most notable rule is designed for students.(最值得注意的规定是为学生设计的)”和最后一段中“These special rules make buying chicken cutlets from Mr. Li a fun and pleasant experience.(这些特殊的规定使得从李先生那里购买鸡块成为一种有趣而愉快的经历)”可知,文章主要介绍了“鸡排哥”摊位上那些特别的规定,这些规定让他的摊位变得非常受欢迎,所以D选项“The special rules of Chicken Cutlet Bro (“鸡排哥”的特殊规定)”是文章最佳标题。故选D项。

读后续写参考范文:
