When I was a little girl, I remembered that when my dad was repairing something, he would ask me to hold the hammer, so we would have time for a conversation with each other. I never saw my dad drinking or taking a night out. All he did after work was taking care of his family.
I grew up and left home for college and since then, my dad had been calling me every Sunday morning. And when I bought a house several years later, my dad painted it by himself in the fierce summer heat. All he asked was to talk to him, but I was too busy in those days.
Four years ago, my dad visited me. He spent many hours putting together a swing for my daughter. He asked me to have a talk with him, but I had to prepare for a trip that weekend.
One Sunday morning we had a telephone talk as usual. I noticed that my dad had forgotten some things that we discussed lately. I was in a hurry, so our conversation was short. Several hours later that day I received a call. My father was in the hospital. Immediately, I bought a plane ticket and on my way I was thinking about all the occasions I missed to have a talk with my dad. By the time I arrived at the hospital, my father had passed away. Now it was he who did not have time for a conversation with me. I realized how little I knew about my dad, his deepest thoughts and his dreams.
After his death I learned much more about him and even more about myself. All he ever wanted was my time. And now he has all my attention every single day.
24. When the author was a little girl, she ________.
A. learned to take care of her family B. often talked with her father

25. When at college, the author ________.
A. asked her father to call her every Sunday
B. received a call from her father every Sunday morning
C. phoned her father every Sunday morning
D. asked her father to talk with her
26. Why did the author fail to have a talk with her father four years ago?
A. She was busy planning a trip.
B. She was busy painting her house.
C. Her daughter asked her to play.
D. She had got tired of talking with him.
27. When did the author begin to regret missing the talks with her father?
A. As soon as she got the news that her father was ill.
B. After her father’s sudden death.
C. Many years after her father’s death.
D. On her way to the hospital to see her father.

On Perranporth beach in Cornwall, the local outdoor swimming group, the Perranporth Bluetits, jump into the Atlantic on cold days. Their friendship and sense of achievement are obvious. Encouraged by such refreshing experiences, community groups and the voluntary area have started designing “blue care” programmes to connect people with water. Some doctors even strongly recommend “bluespace” activities.
Encouraged by the health benefits of open water swimming, my team and I did the largest survey of open-water swimmers to date. Our study, published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, shows that wild swimming improves mental (心理的) health by satisfying mental needs like freedom and control in the water.
As part of the Blue Health project we surveyed around 20,000 adults in 19 countries about their interactions (互动) with blue spaces and their health. Among them, 1,200 reported swimming in blue spaces, including open-air pools, lakes, rivers and the sea. Wild swimming has more important benefits.
Surprisingly though, social connection did not play as big a role in these effects on mental health as we had expected, although the number of community swimming groups like the Perranporth Bluetits is increasing. At least in this international group, personal achievement seemed to be more influential than community connection. However, more skilled swimmers, who often choose adventurous places, sometimes reported higher anxiety (焦虑) levels. This suggests that wild swimming can be good but also challenging.
These findings add to earlier research on open-water swimming. They show that this activity is good for the physical and mental health of adults from different countries, explain how these benefits happen, and point out the discrepancy between natural waters and man-made outdoor pools. So, should we all be jumping in and recommending such experiences for better mental health?
The research does not quite support that yet. We need to be realistic about some of the other challenges our oceans face, such as drowning (溺水) risks and polluted waters. Still, our results support research into recommending getting close to nature to improve certain health conditions. This is something that the UK government is prepared to spend millions on.
28. What is the activity of the Perranporth Bluetits according to paragraph 1?
A. Running on the beach. B. Playing in indoor pools.
C. Doing scientific research. D. Swimming in the Atlantic.
29. How does wild swimming improve mental health?
A. By reducing anxiety levels. B. By meeting mental needs.
C. By improving social connection. D. By increasing body strength.
30. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Connection. B. Problem. C. Difference. D. Balance.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Wild swimming is risk-free for mental health.
B. Polluted waters are worse than drowning risks.
C. Research advises everyone to try wild swimming.
D. The UK supports health studies on nature connection.
D
As we live longer and technology continues its rapid development, we can imagine a future where machines will enlarge our human abilities and help us make better life choices, from health to wealth. Through our dialogue and digital pieces, artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) will understand our life goals and wishes, our duties and limitations. It will help us plan different life events, so we can spend more time enjoying life’s moments.
The ability for AI to understand the complexities and slight differences of human conversation is, however, one hurdle (障碍). There are several thousand known living languages in the world today. Adding to the difficulties are the varied ways words are shared and used across different cultures, including grammar, levels of education and styles of the speakers. Google Duplex, the technology supporting Google Assistant, which places phone calls using a natural-sounding human voice instead of a robotic one, is an early attempt to address such challenges in human communications. But these are just initial whispers in voice of AI’s long journey.
Beyond making reservations and conducting simple dialogues, virtual assistants will need to become far more useful and further fit into the parts of our everyday lives. Not only will they need to foresee what we need before we ask, they also need to understand the context of our conversations and react accordingly. Imagine a snow day when school is canceled for the kids. Knowing that you must now stay at home with your children, your phone would remind you, asking if you’d like your meetings moved to the following day. Alternatively, imagine how much more pleasant your journey home from a business trip would be if your phone could automatically arrange for a ride waiting to pick you up at the airport, based on your travel plan, location, and habits. The possibilities are endless.
32. What do we know about AI?
A. It narrows our abilities. B. It limits our better choice.
C. It helps us enjoy life better. D. It doesn’t know our limitations.
33. What makes it hard for AI to understand what humans say?
A. Low level of speakers. B. Varieties of languages and cultures.
C. Imperfection of AI. D. Similarities between languages.
34. Which word can best describe the author’s attitude towards AI?
A. Supportive. B. Uncaring. C. Worried. D. Doubtful.
35. Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A. AI Will Replace Humans B. AI Will Set Goals for Us
C. AI Will Meet Challenges D. AI Will Be Part of Our Daily Lives

Teresa and I had been good friends for many years. We had many common interests and could stay up all night talking on the phone, laughing until our sides hurt. We were always there for each other when we needed to vent (发泄), cry or celebrate. We were so close that we could read each other’s minds and finish each other’s sentences. That all changed when we had a huge disagreement and parted ways.
The disagreement happened during a big school science fair. We were partners, but Teresa accidentally broke our project right before the judging (评审). I was so angry that I shouted at her in a bad voice and said she ruined everything on purpose. We both said hurtful things and never spoke again after that day.
There wasn’t a day that passed when I didn’t think of her or miss her. I often thought of reaching out to her to say sorry to her. But then I would think, if she cared, why hasn’t she gotten in touch with me? One other thing that we had in common was that we were both very stubborn (固执的).
It was Teresa’s birthday that day, which made me look for her on social media. She had a common name, but I finally found her photo, with her famous broad smile and beautiful hair. I also noticed she had liked a few of my old photos recently — a sign that maybe she missed me too.
I sent her a message online and expressed how much I’d missed her throughout these days and what she meant to me. I mentioned a few silly memories we had had together. I told her that I was grateful that she was there for me when I was going through a hard time. I ended the message by asking her if she would like to meet one day. And I wished her a happy birthday.

第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】 Hours passed like days before a reply finally appeared on the screen. My heart was racing as I read her message: “I’ve missed you too. How about meeting at the Sunshine Restaurant tomorrow?” A feeling of relief washed over me, yet it was quickly followed by a nervous feeling. What if things were awkward? I spent the whole evening thinking about what to say, each moment appearing endlessly as memories of our friendship replayed in my mind. Despite the anxiety, a warm hope began to grow within me — perhaps this was our chance to restart.
The next day as I sat in the restaurant, a familiar voice called my name. I turned to see Teresa standing by the door, holding a small gift. “For old times’ sake,” she said softly. We hugged tightly, tears welling in our eyes. “I’m so sorry,” we said it at the same time, then laughed through our tears. At that time, we apologized for our stubbornness and called up all the joyful moments we had shared. That day, we not only restored our friendship but also learned that true bonds grow stronger when repaired with understanding and forgiveness.
