Jiang Zhaopeng,an 18-year-old medical student at Shandong City Service Technician
College in Yantai, faced a life-or-death test on his way to the spring college entrance exam.
At about 8:10 am,Jiang and his classmate boarded a car to the testing site.Just a minute
later, his classmate collapsed, showing signs of heart failure.Applying first aid skills learned in
school,Jiang immediately performed Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation(心肺复苏术)while
instructing the driver Wang Tao to head to the hospital.Wang responded quickly-he alerted
traffic police, ran six red lights, and reached the hospital in just seven minutes, half the normal
time.Only after ensuring his classmate was receiving professional medical care did Jiang rush to
the exam site, though he missed the 9 am Chinese test.
Doctors later confirmed that Jiang's classmate would recover without brain damage,
emphasizing that the first four minutes of CPR were "absolutely vital"for saving his life
Though having missed the important exam,Jiang expressed no regrets."Exams can be retaken,
but a life cannot,"he said.
The story spread widely online, earning high praise. The patient's parents commented
emotionally,"Without Jiang and driver Wang, our child wouldn't have survived the heart
failure.”
Four days after the incident, education authorities arranged a make-up exam for Jiang. The
spring college entrance exam serves as a crucial opportunity for vocational (school
students to pursue higher education, and this special arrangement demonstrated genuine care for

Beneath California lie faults ()-places where rocks slide past, over, under,or into
one another. They move at an alarming rate until, eventually, the ground shakes violently.
Unavoidably, destructive earthquakes will rock the state.Nothing can be done to prevent
them from striking. But understanding where they are likely to happen, and what sort of power
they can release, means communities can prepare. In other words, the best way to reduce these
future disasters is to draw maps of the underworld, charting every fault and monitoring its
behavior.
To create those maps, researchers employ seismometers(地震仪).This work,
historically, has been painstaking.Traditional methods of quake-hunting science were not
reliable.Even the best computer programs at the time missed certain earthquakes.Zachary Ross,
an assistant geophysics professor at Caltech, explains because California is so geologically active
and so thoroughly covered in seismometers, there were more data than human experts alone
could reasonably handle.
In 2017 Ross was inspired by machine learning programs which can handle huge sets of
photos, identifying and categorizing elements within them, and with accuracy and speed that
humans couldn't match.So,he thought,why not apply a similar approach to seismology?Ross
and his colleagues first took seismic waveforms from genuine quakes. Then he figured out their
wave patterns. Finally,he set an algorithm (searching for quakes that matched those
wave patterns.
The algorithm quickly identified nearly two million previously hidden tiny quakes from
2008 to 2017-which,in turn, illustrated a complex network of faults and fault features that
prior quake searches were unable to see. There was a drawback, however. This program could
only find earthquakes in the seismic record that it was taught to recognize.Novel seismic events
went unnoticed. So Ross turned to AI tools:self-learning programs, software that could take
preexisting information and make predictions about the future.

Cancer treatment has made remarkable progress.New drugs and cutting-edge technologies
have greatly changed outcomes for many cancer patients. Some once-deadly diagnoses turn into
manageable chronic conditions that can be kept in check with regular care and allow cancer
patients to maintain a basic quality of daily living.Yet despite these promising advances, there
are clear limits to what monotherapy(单一疗法)can achieve.Tumors(肿瘤)are adaptive
and complex;they can find ways to bypass even the most complicated therapies, leaving
patients with few options once drug or treatment resistance develops.
Few phrases strike more fear in cancer patients than "Your cancer is no longer responding
to treatment."That destructive moment, however, has also fueled a growing interest in
combination therapy for cancer-the strategic use of two or more treatments with different
working principles to target tumors from multiple angles and reduce the chance of resistance.
Doctors have long paired chemotherapy drugs or combined chemotherapy with radiation to
boost efficiency and cover more cancer cell populations.Today, the treatment toolbox is broader
than ever:targeted therapies that zero in on specific cancer cell, immunotherapies that activate
the body's own immune system to attack tumors, and precision forms of radiation
can all be matched to a patient's unique tumor biology. This matching opens the door to
innovative combinations and,in many cases, renewed hope for those with advanced or recurrent
disease. As a result, around 5,000 clinical trials worldwide are currently investigating the
potential benefits of new combination therapies across various cancer types, from lung cancer to
breast cancer.
Over time, the total number of cancer clinical trials has risen steadily, but the share of
monotherapy trials has declined sharply (from around 70 percent to 20-30 percent). This
notable shift reflects growing medical confidence that well-designed combination treatments can
outperform single treatments, both in effectiveness against tumors and in broader applicability
across diverse patient populations with different health problems.

It was the day of the big science fair ()For months,Sarah had poured her heart
into her project-a detailed model of a sustainable city. She carefully carried her model into the
school hall, feeling very proud. The hall was full of noise as students set up their projects.
As Sarah walked through the crowd carefully,a boy,who was stepping back to look at his
friend's volcano, suddenly crashed into her.The crash was hard and unexpected.Sarah cried in
horror as her model fell from her hands, hitting the floor and breaking into many small pieces.
The noise silenced the whole hall. All eyes turned to Sarah and the boy, whose face had
turned pale.“I..I'm so sorry!”he said,his voice shaking with fear and guilt.“I didn'tsee
you."Sarah stood completely frozen, staring at the broken pieces on the floor. She had spent so
many hours building it.A hot wave of tears pressed behind her eyes, but she forced them back,
refusing to let them fall in front of everyone. The science fair would start in just one hour, but
her dream lay in pieces at her feet.
The boy, named Leo,immediately bent and began picking up the broken pieces."This is
all my fault,"he said, his head hung low.But then,he looked up,his look shifting from
despair to sudden determination."But we can't just give up!Please, let me help you fix this.
We can do it together!"Sarah was upset, but she saw that Leo was truly sorry.Taking a deep
breath,she gave a slow,hesitant nod.
With that,Leo quickly called his friends over.Everyone was glad to lend a hand.A team
was soon formed. Some cleaned up the broken pieces while others raced to the art room to find
