During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes — the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms (制服) to be easily noticed in the purple venues (场馆). They offered help to viewers and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience.
On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem- solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former professional swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event.
One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车) appeared, like a sort of “Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again.
Volunteers like them were seen everywhere — from bus stops to competition venues — offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter.
4. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms?
A. To stand out in the crowd. B. To show love for athletes.
C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries.
5. What do we know about Guo?
A. She found it hard to balance her job and volunteer work.
B. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics.
C. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work.
D. She wasn’t as patient and helpful as the French volunteer.
6. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics,
B. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers.
C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games.
D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events.
7. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By listing the benefits of volunteer work.
B. By discussing historical Olympic events.
C. By comparing different views on Olympics.
D. By sharing personal stories and experiences.
A 5. C 6. B 7. D

Sora, a new video app from OpenAI, offers a dreamlike experience. You might see a woman in a judo jacket bow to an elephant before flipping it over her shoulder, or a young skater racing across Saturn’s rings. This service would be strange for an AI company if it were not for the fact that the videos on Sora are all AI-made. Users cannot upload (上传) their own content. Instead, the Sora feed provides a constant stream of AI-made pabulum
Although the app is invitation-only, it has become very popular, quickly reaching the top of app-store charts in the U. S. and Canada. “Invite” keys have become so valuable that they are being sold online.
However, success comes at a cost. While Sora is free for invited users, running it is expensive for OpenAI — each AI video costs money to produce. Traditional social media platforms earn money from user-created content and advertisements. In contrast, Sora’s business model appears much less promising if the company loses money on every post.
But the true value of Sora may lie beyond pleasure. A recent research paper suggests that such video models can solve various visual (视觉相关的) problems without specific training. If a user requests an amusing video, the system will make one. If the user presents a visual task, the model can solve that, too.
For example, if you give it a picture of a parrot on a tree and ask for a video where all color and detail dissolve, leaving only the edges visible, it will successfully complete this task. It can also handle tasks that are quite distinct from image editing. Provide it with an unfinished Sudoku (数独) problem and ask for a video showing the solution, and the model can finish the problem.
This wide range of abilities establishes them as “zero-shot reasoners” — they can solve tasks they have never encountered before. Newer systems perform better at this than earlier models. Researchers believe that video models will develop into general-purpose tools for vision, making it possible to solve any visual challenge without special training. The content made for pleasure Sora creates today may only be the first step in this interesting journey.
8. What is a key feature of the Sora app?
A. Its videos are entirely made by AI.
B. It is the most popular app developed by Google.
C. It requires no internet connection to watch videos.
D. It allows users to create and share their own videos.
9. What can we infer about Sora’s business model?
A. It has a bright future.
B. It faces cost-related challenges due to high costs.
C. It earns more money than traditional social media.
D. It mainly relies on advertisement income for its earnings.
10. What does the underlined word “distinct” in paragraph5 mean?
A. Similar. B. Creative. C. Difficult. D. Different.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of video models like Sora?
A. Expectant. B. Unclear. C. Indifferent. D. Cautious.
A 9. B 10. D 11. A

根据第一段“This service would be strange for an AI company if it were not for the fact that the videos on Sora are all AI-made.(如果不是因为Sora上所有视频都是人工智能制作的,这项服务对一家人工智能公司来说会很奇怪。)” 故选A。
根据第三段“While Sora is free for invited users, running it is expensive for OpenAI — each AI video costs money to produce. Traditional social media platforms earn money from user-created content and advertisements. In contrast, Sora’s business model appears much less promising if the company loses money on every post.(虽然Sora对受邀用户是免费的,但对OpenAI来说运行它的成本很高——每个AI视频的制作都需要花钱。传统社交媒体平台从用户生成的内容和广告中赚钱。相比之下,如果公司在每个帖子上都亏损,Sora的商业模式看起来就没那么有前景了。)”可知,由于成本高,Sora的商业模式面临着与成本相关的挑战。故选B。
【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据上文“For example, if you give it a picture of a parrot on a tree and ask for a video where all color and detail dissolve, leaving only the edges visible, it will successfully complete this task.(例如,如果你给它一张树上有一只鹦鹉的图片,并要求生成一段视频,让画面中的所有颜色和细节都逐渐消失,只留下轮廓可见,它就能成功完成这个任务。)”和下文“Provide it with an unfinished Sudoku (数独) problem and ask for a video showing the solution, and the model can finish the problem.(给它一个未完成的数独题目,并要求生成一段展示解题过程的视频,这个模型就能把这道题完整解出来。)”
根据最后一段“Researchers believe that video models will develop into general-purpose tools for vision, making it possible to solve any visual challenge without special training. The content made for pleasure Sora creates today may only be the first step in this interesting journey.(研究人员认为,视频模型将发展成为通用的视觉工具,使解决任何视觉挑战成为可能,而无需特殊培训。Sora今天为娱乐而制作的内容可能只是这一有趣旅程的第一步。)”可知,作者认为像Sora这样的视频模型未来可能会成为通用的视觉工具,能够解决各种视觉挑战,因此作者对它们的未来是充满期待的。故选A。
D
As we all know, trees are always stationary: they stay more or less where you plant them, and no one worries about finding a tree wandering around a park or back yard.
However, there is one special exception, some say, the so-called walking palm tree (棕榈树) was found in the rainforests of Central and South America. Many people believe it can really walk around. This is because of its unusual root system; while most trees have one trunk, the palm breaks into many smaller roots a few feet off the ground, giving it the appearance of many little legs.
The amazing walking ability of the palm tree has always been told by rainforest guides to tourists for years, and appears in many sources of documents as an amazing plant adaptation. As journalist Sherry Seethaler writes in her book Curious Folks Ask 2, “screen writers searching for the perfect B-movie plant hero could take inspiration from the walking palm. The tree slowly walks from shade to sunlight by growing new roots toward the light.”
A tree that walks in search of the sun is a fascinating, strange story. And it’s not true, either; the tree is real enough, but it doesn’t walk. It sits where it began to grow, not moving except under the force of wind or an axe.
Biologist Gerardo Avalos is one of the world’s top experts on the palm tree. His analysis of the plant and its roots shows that the walking tree can’t walk because its roots don’t move. A few roots on one side or another may die off, but the trunk itself remains, well, rooted to the spot.
“My paper proves that the belief of the walking palm is just a myth,” Avalos said. “Thinking that a palm tree could actually track the sunlight changes by moving slowly over the forest floor... is a myth that tourist guides find amusing to tell visitors to the rainforest.”
12. What does the underlined word “stationary” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Not moving. B. Not standing. C. Not growing. D. Not dying.
13. Why do people think the palm tree can walk around?
A. It has no roots underground. B. It appears to have several trunks.
C. It grows a few feet off the ground. D. It appears to have many little legs.
14. What can we learn about the palm tree from the passage?
A. It grows in Central and North America.
B. It is a popular attraction among visitors.
C. It wanders around the rainforest at night.
D. It grows well in the shade of the rainforests.
15. What does biologist Gerardo Avalos believe?
A. The palm tree can move its roots.
B. The palm tree cannot track the sunlight.
C. The palm tree cannot actually walk at all.
D. The palm tree cannot keep its trunk growing.
A 13. D 14. B 15. C
根据第一段“As we all know, trees are always stationary: they stay more or less where you plant them, and no one worries about finding a tree wandering around a park or back yard. (众所周知,树木总是stationary:它们或多或少都待在你种植它们的地方,没有人会担心发现一棵树在公园或后院里游荡)”可知,树木会待在被种植的地方,不会移动,由此可推测划线单词stationary的意思是“不移动的”。故选A项。
根据第二段“This is because of its unusual root system; while most trees have one trunk, the palm breaks into many smaller roots a few feet off the ground, giving it the appearance of many little legs.(这是因为它不同寻常的根系;虽然大多数树只有一根树干,但这棵棕榈树在离地面几英尺的地方分成许多较小的根,使它看起来像许多小腿)”可知,人们认为棕榈树能四处走动是因为它看起来像有许多小腿。
根据第三段“The amazing walking ability of the palm tree has always been told by rainforest guides to tourists for years, and appears in many sources of documents as an amazing plant adaptation.(多年来,雨林导游一直向游客讲述棕榈树惊人的行走能力,许多文献来源都将其作为一种惊人的植物适应性)”可知,棕榈树在游客中很受欢迎。
根据第五段“Biologist Gerardo Avalos is one of the world’s top experts on the palm tree. His analysis of the plant and its roots shows that the walking tree can’t walk because its roots don’t move.(生物学家杰拉尔多·阿瓦洛斯是世界上研究棕榈树的顶尖专家之一。

故填that或which。
故填a。
故填has inspired。
treat...as... 故填as。
本句已有谓语动词have turned,所以create应用非谓语动词形式,根据use sth. to do sth.“用某物做某事”可知,空处应用不定式形式。故填to create。
故填Although/Though/While。

I was born small, which often left me feeling unconfident. During my second year of high school, my family moved to a different city. Getting used to life as a new kid has always been difficult for me, and this move made it more challenging. In my new school, I felt physically and mentally uneasy. Other students had already built friendships, leaving me without a friend.
Besides, I found English learning boring and didn’t know what to do during English classes. So, I spent my free time drawing because that was what I usually did when I was alone.
I still recall the first day in the school dining hall. While waiting in line for food, I heard a group of students excitedly discussing an upcoming English drama show for freshmen. As I passed by, they glanced at me with surprise. “He looks so small,” someone said in a low voice. My face burned with embarrassment and I bent my head. Pretending not to hear them, I slipped into the farthest seat available and had my meal alone.
In my first English class, I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the book. The letters and words seemed to dance confusingly across the page and laugh at me. Losing interest quickly, I began drawing on the book. A few minutes later, my English teacher, Mr. Frank — a kind man — walked up to me.
“Nice drawing,” he said gently. “You know, language is also an art form; it carries its own charm (魅力) and beauty. I believe you could find English attractive if you discover where to begin.”

Encouraged by his words, I began to change my attitude towards English. I started to memorize simple words every day, which made me feel a little more confident. When I didn’t understand a sentence in the textbook, I would ask Mr. Frank after class, and he always explained it patiently until I got it. Later, Mr. Frank suggested that I join the English drama show because he knew I was good at drawing. I helped design the stage background, and my work was praised by many classmates. Soon, some students talked to me about the drama, and I finally made friends who shared interests with me.

For example if you give it a picture of a parrot on a tree and ask for a video where all color and detail dissolve, leaving only the edges visible, it will successfully complete this task.
B It is the most popular app developed by Google.
D. Cautious.

注意:
