Victor is now attending a Mexican school training young people in traditional cowboy skills. The school, which opened in 2016, offers free classes to young “charros (墨西哥牛仔)”. Newcomers and foreigners are welcome. Today, there are about 100 students, both girls and boys. They take part in three hours of training twice a week to improve their skills. The first challenge is to learn how to throw a lasso (套索) around the neck of a calm bull. When students have learned that, they progress to getting on a horse using stirrups (马镫). Then comes learning to ride the horse and finally to lasso moving animals. So far, Victor has learned to ride a horse, as well as throw a lasso. Professional charros also get along well with horses. They follow strict training and pay great attention to their horses’ reactions (反应). For them, charrería is a way of life, and respecting and caring for animals is a must. Charrería is not just a weekend fun activity. “Charrería has grown a lot at the national level,” said De la Torre, who set up the school. “Most of the students at the school don’t come from a charro family, but they like it. Becoming a charro really takes a lot of hard work. However, the job pays well. And the best age to start learning is 6 years old, but many students begin as teenagers. Sartore plans to take photos of 20,000 different kinds of animals. And he’s already taken almost 16,000. He hopes his photos will inspire (激励) people to help save the animals in great danger, and that he can document them before they’re gone. “My job is to tell their stories, and I hope that the world cares about them in time,” he said. Sartore calls his programme the Photo Ark. He started it in 2006 in his hometown Lincoln, Nebraska. And he is still working on it, having taken his 10,000th photo of the smallest wildcat in the Americas in 2020. However, Sartore doesn’t just take his animal photos in the usual zoo environment. He puts each animal on a black or white background with carefully chosen lighting. This helps him photograph them in their true colours, and lets people see a little mouse as clearly as a big elephant—and look each animal right in the eye. “When we look these animals in the eye, we’ve got a real chance to change ourselves and try to save them,” Sartore says. I should have no problem crossing the desert,” she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean.” she said sadly to herself. At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a river,” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That’s because a breeze can fly, but I cannot.” “That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert, “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again, said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.” Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze, It carried her to the next stage of her life. While I couldn’t even remember the model of the camera, I do remember the enjoyment of looking through the photos. When I was 16 years old, I bought a Canon camera before an overseas trip. Over the years I took many photos with it. There’s Aunt Sarah, smiling in front of Buckingham Palace; Aunt Sarah, smiling under the Eiffel Tower; and Aunt Sarah, smiling in a Venetian Canal. Everyone knows what Aunt Sarah looks like. They also know what Europe’s great landmarks (地标) look like. I didn’t think about composition (构图) when taking the photos. After the camera was stolen, I didn’t buy one for a long time because I didn’t want to buy a complex (复杂的) camera until I found a Vivitar Series camera. It worked well in natural light, and I took a lot of photos with it. From then on, I had an artist’s eye. My pictures were not of familiar Greek architectures (建筑). Instead, I took pictures of farmers at work in the field and fishermen repairing their nets. I captured (抓住) the color and character of the country. Three years ago, I often ordered meals online because my parents were always on business. Before payment, I would leave a few words for the person who packed orders (打包订单), words like “Hope you’re having a good day!” or “Thank you for your hard work.” Fast forward to today, I found myself facetoface with one of the people who had packed my orders in the past. I walked up to her and said, “Thank you so much for what you did! You are fantastic!” She paused (暂停) for a second and then asked my name. When I told her, she said, “Oh, you are the girl who wrote notes for us!” She told me that those little notes truly made their days nice. It was heartwarming to hear that such small acts of kindness could make such a big difference. After finishing my shopping, she ran up to me with some beautiful flowers. Most of the teenagers are the only children in each family, so our parents love us very much. They have done everything well for us and don’t want us to do any housework. I think it’s bad for us. The following is a real story. I have a classmate called Li Qing. She is the only child in her family. Her parents love her so much that they don’t let her do any housework. Every day she only has meals, goes to school, does homework and goes to bed. So she doesn’t know how to do housework at all. One day, her father was badly ill in hospital. Her mother had to take care of her father in the hospital and couldn’t cook the dishes for Li Qing for a week. Li Qing didn’t know how to cook meals. She had a lot of trouble cooking meals and often felt hungry. She only had instant noodles (方便面) for her meals. From the story, we know it’s very necessary for us to learn to do housework from now on. 1.The writer thinks it’s ________ for teenagers to learn to do housework. On my 35th birthday, I gave myself my first skateboard. Most of my friends and family thought I was crazy, but only I knew why. Two years ago, I accidentally fell down a 12-meter waterfall and broke my pelvis (骨盆). I went from using a wheelchair to using crutches (拐杖), then to trying to walk a block, and finally walking miles. Physical activity became even more important in my life. So why not make it enjoyable? I’ve wanted to learn to skateboard since I was a kid, but most of my time and energy went into dancing. In my opinion, skating was actually very similar to dancing. For a long time, I tried to learn skating on my own. I had no idea what I was doing and always felt awkward when many strangers saw me skating or simply trying to keep my balance. That fear of being judged often stopped me from just getting out there for practice. One day, my friend Monica and I met some of the members of GRLSWIRL, a skateboarding club. They were so friendly that we wanted to be part of it. This club was amazing. Even though everyone there was better than me, they were happy to help and excited to see me overcome challenges. There, I gradually became more confident. For me, a big part of skating was overcoming my PTSD (创伤后应激障碍). Falling is a huge part of skating, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to overcome it. However, the more I learned from every little fall—allowing my body to understand that it was OK, and that I could drop and get up again—the less my PTSD took over. The more I skated, the better my body and mind felt. Although I started skating for therapy (治疗), I never imagined it would open up a new world of excitement and possibilities for me. 1.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2? A.After she joined the club. B.After she got good at skateboarding. C.After she made friends with Monica. D.After she got good results in the game. 4.Why was the writer afraid of falling? A.Her doctor had warned her not to fall. B.Falling would be laughed at by others. C.She didn’t want to hurt her leg again. D.The past experience left her with bad feelings. 5.What did the writer think of skateboarding in the end? A.It would be her life work. B.It was a light on her road of life. C.It was something she had to do. D.It was the reason for her to walk again. Rebecca Miles has always loved animals. When she was a child, she used to go to the local zoo with her grandparents on weekends. She liked watching documentaries (纪录片) and TV programs about real people and events. Her father was an environmentalist who worked to protect the natural world. Rebecca and her mother often went on trips with her father, travelling to Africa and other parts of the world. Rebecca studied zoology (动物学) at university and worked at a wildlife center in Zambia (赞比亚) in Africa. She studied chimpanzees (黑猩猩). A.②①④③ B.③④①② C.①③④② D.③④②① On December 15th, 2025, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shared some great news. Two new car models—made by Chinese companies and with Level 3 (L3) self-driving technology—can now be driven on roads. This is an important step for China’s smart car industry. It brings the country closer to a time when self-driving cars are part of daily travel. What is L3 self-driving? It’s also called “conditional automation.” This means the car can do most driving jobs in certain cases. On highways or busy city roads, the car can drive alone. It can handle steering (转向), speed up, slow down, and even avoid small obstacles (障碍物) in the way. The driver doesn’t have to watch the road every second. But they must be ready to take over. For example, if an animal suddenly runs across the road, the car will warn the driver. Then the driver has 10 seconds to get back in control. This permission is a big milestone (里程碑) for using self-driving technology in business in China. Before this, most smart cars sold had Level 2 (L2) driving help systems. These systems could only give basic support. For example, they can warn the driver if the car starts to move out of its lane, or stop the car by itself to avoid crashes (碰撞). But the driver still had to control the car at all times. Now, L3 cars can take full control in specific places. This means China has officially started business tests of “conditional self-driving.” It also shows that China’s smart car technology is now among the best in the world. Experts say L3 technology can make driving safer, because most car accidents are caused by human mistakes. But we need to remember: L3 is not “full self-driving.” The driver must always be ready to take control! As the technology gets better, self-driving cars might one day make our trips easier and safer, changing the way people travel in the future. 1.Which of the following driving jobs cannot be done by an L3 car alone? A.Turning to stay in the right lane. B.Speeding up and slowing down on a highway. C.Avoiding a small rock on a fast city road. D.Making a hard decision in a sudden situation. 2.What does “conditional automation” mean according to the passage? A.The car can drive by itself completely without any driver’s participation. B.The car can drive automatically in all situations without any need for a driver. C.The car can handle most driving jobs but the driver needs to be ready to take over. D.The car can only provide basic driving help and the driver must control it all the time. 3.What is the writer’s attitude towards the permission of L3 autonomous cars? A.Doubtful B.Critical C.Supportive D.Neutral 4.What is the main idea of the third paragraph? A.To explain the difference between L2 and L3 technology. B.To introduce the basic uses of L2 driving assistance systems. C.To announce that China’s smart car technology is the best in the world. D.To describe the process of business use for self-driving cars. 5.What is the main purpose of this passage? A.To explain how L3 self-driving technology works in detail. B.To introduce China’s approval of L3 cars and its importance. C.To compare the differences between L2 and L3 technologies. D.To predict the future of China’s smart car industry. “Forget about Lionel Messi, go watch the village super league (联赛)!” Some Chinese people might say to a football fan like this. The village super league, or “Cun Chao” in Chinese, is a soccer game among different villages in Rongjiang County, Southwest China’s Guizhou Province. It was held from May 13th to July 29th in 2023. Twenty teams took part in it. The matches were so popular that at least 1 million people watched them on the field and more than 50 million online. The football players come from different backgrounds. They are sellers, drivers, students, workers, etc. They come from different ethnic (民族的) groups such as Miao, Dong, Shui, Han and Yao. Their ages are from 15 to over 40 years old. But when they put on their team uniforms and walk onto the field, they fight for their common love—football. Like “Cun Chao”, another village sports event called “CunBA” was also popular. The matches were held in Taipan Village of Taijiang County, Guizhou Province. Four teams competed in the finals. The winner of the first “Gorgeous Countryside” Basketball League came out on March 27th. Over a hundred thousand basketball fans went there to watch the exciting matches. Both “Cun Chao” and “CunBA” enjoy a long history in Guizhou. Football in Rongjiang dates back to the 1940s and basketball in Taipan dates back to 1936. At that time, there were no special fields for villagers to do sports, but hard conditions stopped no one. Now, with the support of the government, more people can take part in sporting events, enjoy sports and live a healthy life. At the same time, these sports events are also helping the development of these villages. 1.How long did “Cun Chao” last in Rongjiang this year? A.For one and a half months. B.For two months. Because of the rapid development of AI technologies, the skills needed for many jobs have changed by 25% since 2015. The number may reach at least 65% by 2030. For employees (员工), it is important to focus on tasks rather than just job titles. Also, those tasks will change as AI develops. You should divide your job into tasks that AI can do, tasks that AI can help with, and tasks that need your own skills. In this way, ______. Those skills may include solving problems, thinking creatively, and managing time. As for employers (雇主), this increases the importance of skill-based talents. More people are learning AI skills. There are nine times more people with AI skills than in 2016. Over the past two years, the number of job posts that mention AI has been 17% larger than those without mentioning AI. The leaders realize that they need to hire people with AI skills. The emergence of AI starts a new world of work. Leaders and employees need to consider AI as a tool, not a replacement. Actually, it allows them to do their job more effectively. For example, software engineers can let AI handle simple tasks, so they have more time to think up new ideas. As AI continues to develop, the future of work will increasingly rely on human involvement (参与)。 1.How much may the skills needed for many jobs change by 2030? A.25%. B.65%. C.17%. Last week, I went to a restaurant for dinner. I recognized the face of the boy sitting at the table next to me. I was sure I had seen him before, but couldn’t remember his name. Have you ever had an experience like that? Humans have a great ability to recognize faces. From movie stars to our relatives, friends and classmates, we can actually remember the faces of a large number of people. The question is: How many faces a person can remember at most? Humans are much better at recognizing faces than at remembering names: Early humans didn’t have spoken language. They largely depended on their visual (视觉的) abilities to tell their family members from strangers. As a result, our vision has developed to be one of our strongest senses. When we talk to others, we often keep eye contact with them and look at their faces from time to time. Our brain takes in and stores their looks, such as the color of their eyes and the shape of their mouth. In a study, a group of people were tested on their facial. memory abilities. They were asked to. recall (回想) the faces of all the people they knew about. Then, they were asked to identify their pictures. It turned out that normal people were able to remember between1,000 and 10,000 faces. The average was about 5,000. Meanwhile, some people have much stronger facial memories than others. They are called super recognizers remembering about 10,000 faces is the upper limit. for a normal person; but these people may be able to recall many thousands more different-faces. Most people can, only recognize about twenty percent of the faces they have seen. Super recognizers, however, can remember up to 80 percent of them! 1.The underlined word “that” in Paragraph 1 refers to a certain experience. If you had the same experience, it meant ________ . A.500. B.1,000. C.5,000. D.10,000. 4.How are super: recognizers different from normal people? A.They have excellent eyesight. B.They pay very close attention to people’s looks. C.They can recognize faces they’ve seen a lot faster. D.They can recognize about 8,000 faces they have seen. 5.Where can you most probably read this article? A.In a diary. B.In a novel. C.In a travel guide. D.In a newspaper. Recently, researchers have reported on a different way to break down different kinds of plastic. It could lead to easier, high-quality recycling, and help deal with plastic pollution. The world is full of plastic, but only 9% of plastic products are ever recycled. Every year, over 8 billion tons of plastic are washed into the oceans. But bacteria may help recycle, even when humans don’t. Bacteria are tiny living things. Some bacteria can “eat” other things by changing the chemicals in those things into something that will help the bacteria grow. Researchers at a French company have discovered a bacterial enzyme (酶) that can break down plastic. The enzyme, which was first found in compost (堆肥) leaves, turns plastic into chemical “building blocks” that can then be used to create new products. The enzyme can especially break down PET, a type of plastic that is most commonly used to produce plastic bottles. It is the fifth most common type of plastic that we use. The new enzyme was uncovered in research that was published in the journal Nature. Researchers studied over 100,000 microorganisms (微生物) to find one that could break down plastic quickly. The leaf compost enzyme was the first discovery in 2012. Scientists changed its genes (基因), allowing it to break down 90% of one ton of plastic in less than 10 hours. “It had been completely forgotten, but it turned out to be the best,” said Professor Alain Marty. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What does the underlined word “bacteria” mean in Chinese? A.细菌 B.塑料 C.垃圾 D.昆虫 2.Where was the enzyme first found? A.In the oceans. B.In the lab. C.In compost leaves. D.In plastic waste. 3.What do we know about the enzyme according to the passage? A.It is a type of plastic. B.It can break down plastic. C.It can improve the growth of plants. D.It is the fifth most common type of bacteria. 4.What did Professor Alain Marty mean in the last paragraph? A.It was too late to find the new enzyme. B.The new enzyme was forgotten by experts. C.They forgot to change the enzyme’s genes. D.Better late than never. 5.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? A.Where the new enzyme was published. B.How the scientists changed the enzyme’s genes. C.How the scientists found the new enzyme. D.When the scientists found the new enzyme. Hello, welcome to the Photo Show of National Geographic. Sartore is showing his photos around the world, and you can also see them on the Internet. Then she reached a desert. “I went through so many difficulties. A.The writer didn’t spend much time dancing. B.The writer used to be a good skateboarder. C.The writer had a car accident two years ago. D.The writer put in a lot of effort to walk again. 2.What does the underlined word “awkward” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.无聊的 B.震惊的 C.尴尬的 D.生气的 3.When did the writer become confident? A.After she joined the club. B.After she got good at skateboarding. C.After she made friends with Monica. D.After she got good results in the game. 4.Why was the writer afraid of falling? A.Her doctor had warned her not to fall. B.Falling would be laughed at by others. C.She didn’t want to hurt her leg again. D.The past experience left her with bad feelings. 5.What did the writer think of skateboarding in the end? A.It would be her life work. B.It was a light on her road of life. C.It was something she had to do. D.It was the reason for her to walk again. 【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 4.D 5.B 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要介绍了作者如何从一次事故中恢复、学习滑板的过程以及加入滑板俱乐部的体验等。 1.推理判断题。根据“I went from using a wheelchair to using crutches (拐杖), then to trying to walk a block, and finally walking miles.”可推知,作者为重新行走付出了巨大努力。故选D。 2.词句猜测题。根据下文“That fear of being judged often stopped me from just getting out there for practice.”可知,对被评判的恐惧经常阻止作者出去练习,可推知,当陌生人看作者时,作者总是感到尴尬,所以划线部分的含义是“尴尬的”。故选C。 3.细节理解题。根据“This club was amazing…There, I gradually became more confident.”可知,作者加入俱乐部后信心增强。故选A。 4.细节理解题。根据“Falling is a huge part of skating, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to overcome it.”可知,过去的事故经历使作者对摔倒产生心理阴影。故选D。 5.观点态度题。根据“I never imagined it would open up a new world of excitement and possibilities for me”可知,作者认为滑板为她的人生带来了光明和希望。故选B。 Rebecca Miles has always loved animals. Rebecca studied zoology (动物学) at university and worked at a wildlife center in Zambia (赞比亚) in Africa. She studied chimpanzees (黑猩猩). She was also interested in learning more about big cats like mountain lions. After she graduated, she made her first TV program when she was 27. It was a documentary about tigers. While she was filming a documentary in Asia, she met her future husband, Ray. He was one of the cameramen on the program. They quickly realized that they shared the same interests and cared about animals in danger. Now Rebecca and Ray work together on many projects. Besides Zambia, Rebecca has worked all over Africa and Asia in her thirties. She and Ray are now planning to take their very first trip to South America to study mountain lions in the Andes (安第斯山脉). They would like to know where the mountain lions live and what they eat. They are interested in giving people information about the mountain lions and how to protect them. 【答案】1.D 2.C 3.C 4.A 5.B 【导语】本文介绍了中国工业和信息化部批准了两款具有L3级自动驾驶技术的新车型上路,标志着中国自动驾驶商业化进程迈出重要一步,并解释了L3技术的含义及其意义。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段“The driver doesn’t have to watch the road every second. A.you failed to recognize an old friend B.you were unable to call someone C.you recognized someone’s face but forgot his name D.couldn’t remember where you had met someone before 2.Early humans heavily depend on their visual abilities because they ________ . A.only believed their eyes B.their other senses were not good C.didn’t know how to speak D.were very clever 3.According to the study mentioned; how many faces can a normal person remember at most? A.500. B.1,000. C.5,000. D.10,000. 4.How are super: recognizers different from normal people? A.They have excellent eyesight. B.They pay very close attention to people’s looks. C.They can recognize faces they’ve seen a lot faster. D.They can recognize about 8,000 faces they have seen. 5.Where can you most probably read this article? A.In a diary. B.In a novel. C.In a travel guide. D.In a newspaper. 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.D 4.D 5.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了人类具有识别面孔的强大能力,并解释了其原因,同时介绍了一项关于面部记忆能力的研究,发现普通人最多能记住1000到10000张面孔,而超级识别者能记住更多。 1.词句猜测题。根据第一段“I recognized the face of the boy sitting at the table next to me. I was sure I had seen him before, but couldn’t remember his name. 【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.D 5.C 【导语】本文主要介绍了研究人员发现的一种能快速分解塑料的细菌酶,该酶最初在堆肥叶中被发现,通过基因改造后能在短时间内分解大量塑料,有助于解决塑料污染问题。 1.词句猜测题。根据“Bacteria are tiny living things.
