Do you know what the world’s fastest animal is? How about the world’s smartest animal? Do you know which animal lives the longest? Let’s read about some of these amazing animals.
You probably know that the world’s fastest animal is the cheetah (猎豹). Cheetahs can run at about 120 kilometers an hour. However, they can only run at that speed (速度) for about 60 seconds. When cheetahs are running at that speed, they spend more time in the air than on the ground.
The largest animal in the world is the blue whale. Here’s an interesting fact about these giant animals. They aren’t just the largest species (物种) right now. They are the largest animals that have ever existed (存在) on the earth. Blue whales are about 38 meters long, and they weigh around 170 tons. Blue whales eat about 3,600 kilograms of food every day.
Of course, the smartest animals in the world are humans. The second smartest animal is the chimpanzee (黑猩猩). Chimps can make tools and build things. They can also solve (解决) problems. Some scientists have ever taught chimps sign language. Sign language is using your hands to make words and communicate (交流). Other very smart animals are dolphins and parrots.
Most people believe that tortoises live the longest. It’s true that tortoises live longer than other animals on land. The oldest tortoises that we know about died at the age of 188. However, some ocean animals live longer. Some koi, a kind of goldfish, can live for more than 200 years. There’s even a kind of jellyfish that can change its cells (细胞) and make them new again. This means that whenever the jellyfish gets old and weak, it can make itself young again! The nickname of this jellyfish is “immortal jellyfish”.
The most poisonous (有毒的) animal is also a jellyfish. In the last 60 years, box jellyfish have killed more than 5,500 people. If a person is stung by a box jellyfish, he or she must get help at once. Otherwise, that person’s chance of survival (存活) is almost zero.

No matter where you live, you may hear about the natural disasters. They bring many serious problems to people in disaster areas. They become ill, homeless and some of them even die in the disasters.
Japan is located in East Asia, but it is an island in the North Pacific Ocean. Japan has more than 1,000 islands, but there are four main islands. Lots of rains fall in Japan at a lot of times of a year, especially in summer. There is a rainy season in early summer, and typhoons hit parts of the country every year during late summer.
The heavy rains usually destroy the crops and plants. What’s worse, the rains usually cause huge floods. Floods in Japan can take away many things, including many people’s lives. A Japanese housing developer recently invented a “flood-resistant house”. It can not only keep water out of the house during floods but also float off (漂浮) the ground.
Because of floods, the loss of housing is a difficult problem all over the world. While engineers are trying to find solutions, few ways are useful. Now, the Japanese housing developer tells the public that he came up with an answer the other day. It can keep people’s homes from getting flooded. Their new “flood-resistant house” was recently on a popular Japanese TV show and received much attention online.
According to engineers, most houses will be in the flood when water reaches the windows, but their “flood-resistant house” can float up to five metres above the ground, so water will not reach the windows, and everything else is shut in the house safely.

temperature when water difficult in fact
Cold weather during winter months may keep many people from leaving home and running in the open air.
However, a new study shows that the drop in the temperature is a good reason to run. 66 , researchers say, running in cold weather helps improve one's performance.
Many people say running in winter can be 67 . Two reasons are the low 68 and bitter winds. But many runners might find it easier than running in hot weather.
That could be because lower temperatures reduce pressure on the body. 69 you run in cold weather, your heart rate and the body's dehydration(脱水)levels are lower than in warmer conditions. The body needs less 70 on a cold day than in warm weather.

This information 71 sports scientists at St. Mary's University in London. John Brewer is a professor at St. Mary's University. For this study, he and other researchers put a 72 of people into a room they called an "environmental chamber." The researchers then recreated summer and winter weather conditions in the room. The test subjects(测试对象)were warned to run 10,000 meters under both conditions. Brewer and his team recorded biological measurements of the runners carefully.
Brewer says every movement runners make produces 73 . That heat builds up in the body and can be really damaging unless you can lose it. He explains that one way in which we lose heat is 74 sweat(汗液). But the body also loses heat by transporting the blood to the surface of the skin. Running in 75 temperatures results in faster heart rates because it's much harder to lose heat when the environment is warm.
So, if you are a runner, don't let winter weather keep you indoors. Simply get ready for the low temperatures and start running.

例文
Protecting the grasslands
Grasslands are important. Many animals live there, like horses, sheep and cows. Without grasslands, soil might wash away during rain.
Now people are hurting grasslands in two main ways. Too many animals are eating grass. If horses, sheep and cows eat too much grass, nothing grows back. Besides, some people cut down grass to grow crops. This kills plants and makes the soil weak.
To save the grasslands, our governments make rules to stop people from using grasslands wrongly. Let farmers take turns grazing their animals. This gives grass time to grow back.
Let’s do something to save the grasslands. Grasslands are not empty fields——they are homes for animals!
