Inspired by videos he watched online, Rathee, now 28, started a travel vlog. But he soon noticed a problem. “People in India weren’t trained on how to use the Internet and blindly trusted whatever they saw on YouTube or WhatsApp,” he says. So Rathee, who grew up in a small northern Indian town in the state of Haryana and later studied mechanical engineering in Germany, became what he calls a “YouTube educator”, making videos in Hindi that fact-check topics that are trending on Indian social media. “My aim is to present things as simply as possible and break down complex issues in simple words,” he says. Rathee’s work is incredibly popular. He has accumulated nearly 13 million subscribers (订阅者), making his YouTube channel one of the most-viewed in the country. It has also led to conflicts. When a film called The Kerala Story began making waves in May, Rathee made a 23-minute video in which he argued that the film promoted a false theory. Though Rathee used the government’s data and international sources to support his claim, his fact-checking led to consequences, including threats sent to his family. Despite the risks, Rathee remains calm. He makes videos for one reason. “I hope they teach people tolerance, coexistence, and accepting each other’s opinions, values that I myself really value,” he says. “I’m surprised doing such a simple thing can bring so much attention,” he adds, “maybe because no one dares to do that.” 4. What problem did Rathee notice with Indians? A. They were addicted to online videos. B. They had limited access to the Internet. C. They blindly subscribed to travel vlogs. D. They easily fell for misleading information. 5. Why did Rathee make his video about the film? A. To attract attention and followers. B. To emphasize his previous argument. C. To analyze the government’s data. D. To prevent the spread of a false theory. 6 What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to? A. Criticizing traditional values. B. Getting rid of rigid rules. C. Making fact-checking videos. D. Challenging the authority. 7. Which word could best describe Rathee’s work? A. Enlightening. B. Entertaining. C. Comprehensive. D. Complicated. C Initial conversations can have a huge impact on how relationships develop over time. People are often stuck in the impressions they think they might have made the minute they finish speaking with someone for the first time: “Did they like me or were they just being polite?” “Were they deep in thought or deeply bored?” To find out whether these worries are necessary, we have conducted nearly 10 years of research. In our studies, participants in the UK talked with someone they had never met before. Afterward, they were asked how much they liked their conversation partner and how much they believed that their conversation partner liked them. This allowed us to compare how much people believed they were liked to how much they were actually liked. Time and time again, we found that people left their conversations with negative feelings about the impression they made. That is, people underestimate (低估) how much their conversation partners like them and enjoy their company — a false belief we call the “liking gap”. This bias (成见) may seem like something that would occur only in initial interactions, but its effects extend far beyond a first impression. Surprisingly, the liking gap can constantly affect a variety of relationships, including interactions with coworkers, long after the initial conversations have taken place. Having a larger liking gap is associated with being less willing to ask workmates for help, less willing to provide workmates with open and honest feedback, and less willing to work on another project together. There are numerous strategies to minimize your biased feelings. One place to start is shifting your focus of attention. Try to direct your attention to your conversation partner, be genuinely curious about them, ask them more questions, and really listen to their answers. The more you zero in on the other person, and the less you’re focused on yourself, the better your conversation will be and the less your mind will turn to all the things you think you didn’t do well. 8. Why did the author carry out nearly 10 years of research? A. To check out a potential bias. B. To explore communication strategies. C. To build harmonious relationships. D. To interpret the role of first impressions. 9. What is one effect of people’s liking gap? A. Increasing conflicts with workmates. B. Underestimation of their capabilities. C. Low willingness to interact with others. D. Fewer opportunities for new projects. 10. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph? A. To give warnings. B. To propose solutions. C. To restate opinions. D. To draw a conclusion. 11 Which might be the best title for the text? A. First Impressions Rely on Initial Conversations B. Liking Gap May Determine Work Performance C. People Probably Like You More Than You Think D. How People Like You Matters Less Than You Assume D In this digital age, information is increasingly digitized through the wide use of technology. Newspapers, magazines and even textbooks are becoming or expected to be digital soon. However, despite the sharp increase of such technology in daily life. Print media is far from becoming unnecessary. I don’t think that reading in print is a dying mode. Firstly, print offers a super reading experience. The feeling of holding a book in our hands, feeling its weight and turning over its pages, helps us to be immersed (沉浸) in and engaged fully with the material. The act of turning over pages also helps to direct ourselves in the concepts and structure of the text. In contrast, reading through a number of pages on a device is unsatisfying, and we can lose track of how much we have read. In addition, the artificial glow of digital screens tires one’s eyes out, and can even affect one’s sleep. Moreover, physical copies express greater aesthetic (审美的) beauty than digital ones. The designs that beautify book covers and spines make the ideas complete and add beauty to our homes as well. The wrinkles that have accumulated over time leave us with an emotional attachment to the books themselves. Furthermore, the presentation of content in print also allows for greater appreciation of imagery. In contrast to the restrictions of digital screens, the tangible (可触摸的) nature of print allows for clear imagery that is impactful in its presence. Advocates of digital print support the convenience of the medium. Indeed, e-readers provide a convenient solution to storage and transportation. However, this carries its own weaknesses as well. For one, the use of digital media requires the investment in a smart device. For another, taking notes on the printed text is easier. In conclusion, despite the convenience afforded by digital media, physical print still remains a popular mode of reading today. The “less is more” nature of print media remains its strongest selling point today. 12. Why is print reading considered more immersive than digital reading? A. Print allows readers to read faster and more efficiently. B. Print helps readers track their reading and stay engaged. C. Print offers readers greater accessibility and convenience. D. Print protects readers’ eyes and improves their sleep quality. 13. Where does the greater aesthetic beauty of physical copies come from? A. Ease of transportation. B. Vivid images. C. Emotional connection. D. Abundant ideas. 14. What’s the main purpose of the text? A. To introduce two types of reading modes. B. To inform people of a new trend in reading. C. To argue why print reading will not disappear. D To persuade people to embrace digital reading. 15. How does the author state the opinion? A. By listing examples. B. By explaining a concept. C. By giving a definition. D. By making a comparison. The way we watch television has changed, as many of us no longer follow the old model of television. She was half German shepherd, half collie. I was filled with excitement because it had been my dream to have a lovely and smart puppy to keep me company. As her pink tongue tickled my face with wet licks, it was love at first hug. My family named the puppy Dusty. Although I wanted to lay sole claim to her affections, in a family of seven kids, no one laid permanent claim to the family pet. Dusty was our dog, not my dog. But we soon realized that Dusty was doing her best to give all of us great patience and lots of unconditional love. My baby sister often used Dusty’s warm fur as a nap-time pillow, falling asleep soundly on the cosy rug (毛毯). Like a protective mother, Dusty waited patiently, not moving, until my sister woke. She would gently lick my sister’s rosy cheeks, making her giggle. Dusty doubled as a school crossing guard, too. From Monday to Friday she’d walk us kids two blocks to St. Patrick’s Parochial, looking both ways to check for traffic before allowing us to cross the street. We’d wave goodbye as we entered the door, knowing Dusty would be waiting at the school door until the end of the school day. Of all the contributions Dusty made to our family, one incident stands out far and above all others. Late one night, Dusty rushed to my parents’ bedroom. She barked and barked. When she got no response, Dusty raced upstairs to my bedroom and my brothers’ bedroom and barked again and again. When she failed to fully wake us, she flew back down the steps and returned to my parents’ room. Finally, she got Mom’s attention. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The house across the street, where my best friend Maria and her family lived, was on fire. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 马鞍山市第二中学2023级高二年级2月练习 英语试题 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题。 1. 6. What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to? A Criticizing traditional values. B. Getting rid of rigid rules. C. Making fact-checking videos. D. Challenging the authority. 7. Which word could best describe Rathee’s work? A. Enlightening. B. Entertaining. C. Comprehensive. D. Complicated. D 5. D 6. C 7. 根据文章第一段“People in India weren’t trained on how to use the Internet and blindly trusted whatever they saw on YouTube or WhatsApp,” he says.(他说:“印度人没有接受过如何使用互联网的训练,盲目地相信他们在YouTube或WhatsApp上看到的任何东西。”)” 根据文章第二段“When a film called The Kerala Story began making waves in May, Rathee made a 23-minute video in which he argued that the film promoted a false theory.(当一部名为《喀拉拉邦故事》的电影在五月引起轰动时,拉希制作了一段23分钟的视频,他在视频中认为这部电影宣传了一种错误理论)”可知,拉希制作这段视频的直接目的,就是为了指出并阻止该电影所宣传的错误理论的传播。 划线词“that”位于文章最后一段末尾,根据上文语境““I’m surprised doing such a simple thing can bring so much attention,” he adds, “maybe because no one dares to do that.”(他补充道:“我很惊讶做这样一件简单的事情能引来如此多的关注,也许是因为没有人敢做那件事。”)” 根据文章第一段他自称“YouTube educator(YouTube教育者)”以及第三段他的目标“I hope they teach people tolerance, coexistence, and accepting each other’s opinions, values that I myself really value(我希望它们(视频)能教会人们宽容、共存和接纳彼此的观点,这些是我自己非常珍视的价值观)”可推知其工作本质上是启迪性的。故选A。 C Initial conversations can have a huge impact on how relationships develop over time. 11. Which might be the best title for the text? A. First Impressions Rely on Initial Conversations B. Liking Gap May Determine Work Performance C. People Probably Like You More Than You Think D. How People Like You Matters Less Than You Assume 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“People are often stuck in the impressions they think they might have made the minute they finish speaking with someone for the first time: “Did they like me or were they just being polite?” “Were they deep in thought or deeply bored?” 和第二段中“To find out whether these worries are necessary, we have conducted nearly 10 years of research. 故选A项。 根据第四段中“Having a larger liking gap is associated with being less willing to ask workmates for help, less willing to provide workmates with open and honest feedback, and less willing to work on another project together. 根据最后一段中“There are numerous strategies to minimize your biased feelings. One place to start is shifting your focus of attention. Try to direct your attention to your conversation partner, be genuinely curious about them, ask them more questions, and really listen to their answers. 通读全文,尤其是第三段的研究结论“Time and time again, we found that people left their conversations with negative feelings about the impression they made. That is, people underestimate (低估) how much their conversation partners like them and enjoy their company — a false belief we call the “liking gap”. D In this digital age, information is increasingly digitized through the wide use of technology. D. To persuade people to embrace digital reading. 15. How does the author state the opinion? A. By listing examples. B. By explaining a concept. C. By giving a definition. D. By making a comparison. B 13. C 14. C 15. 根据第二段中“The feeling of holding a book in our hands, feeling its weight and turning over its pages, helps us to be immersed (沉浸) in and engaged fully with the material. The act of turning over pages also helps to direct ourselves in the concepts and structure of the text.(握着一本书在手中,感受它的重量,翻动书页,能让我们全身心地沉浸在阅读内容中。 根据第三段中“The designs that beautify book covers and spines make the ideas complete and add beauty to our homes as well. The wrinkles that have accumulated over time leave us with an emotional attachment to the books themselves. Furthermore, the presentation of content in print also allows for greater appreciation of imagery.(美化书封和书脊的设计使书籍的内容更加完整,也为我们的家增添了美感。 根据文章大意以及第一段“In this digital age, information is increasingly digitized through the wide use of technology. Newspapers, magazines and even textbooks are becoming or expected to be digital soon. However, despite the sharp increase of such technology in daily life. print media is far from becoming unnecessary. I don’t think that reading in print is a dying mode.(在这个数字化时代,信息正通过广泛使用技术而日益实现数字化。 The way we watch television has changed, as many of us no longer follow the old model of television. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Finally, she got Mom’s attention. “What are you doing, Dusty?” Mom snapped, still halfway in dreamland. But Dusty persisted. Finally my mother gave in. “Okay, what is it?” Dusty whined and rushed out of Mom’s room. Thinking the dog needed to be let out to relieve herself, my mother followed Dusty to the front door. When Mom opened the door to let her out, Dusty tore across the street, not stopping to do as my mother had assumed she would. Then she discovered something unusual — the bright flames and thick smoke. The house across the street, where my best friend Maria and her family lived, was on fire. My mother alerted the fire department immediately. Soon, the firefighters in their trucks roared up the street, put out the blaze, and saved my best friend’s family from harm and their house from total ruin. Later, my mother refused to take credit. “It was Dusty,” she told us. “She saved them, not me.” I put my arms around my dog’s neck and kissed her. “Thank you for saving Maria. You’re the bravest dog I’ve ever known.” Dusty wagged her tail and licked my face. 词汇激活 行为类 ①冲出去:rush out of/ dash out of ②发现:discover/spot/find ③扑灭:put out/extinguish 情绪类 ①不耐烦:snap/get impatient ②感激:thank/show gratitude 【点睛】[高分句型1] Thinking the dog needed to be let out to relieve herself, my mother followed Dusty to the front door.(运用了现在分词短语作原因状语) [高分句型2] When Mom opened the door to let her out, Dusty tore across the street, not stopping to do as my mother had assumed she would.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句和现在分词短语作伴随状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
