The bat that flies around at night can not take off from the ground. If it is placed on the ground, all it can do is to walk slowly about helplessly and no doubt, painfully. If it reaches a higher place,it will be able to throw itself into the air. Then it takes off immediately. But on flat()ground,it will never fly. A bee dropped into a cup will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape()at the top but keeps trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will look for a way where none exists(存在)，until it completely destroys itself.. In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee. They are struggling about with all their problems and difficulties, not realizing that the answer is right there above them. What are glaciers? You can imagine glaciers as slowly moving ice and snow on land.Over time, the snow adds up and turns into glacier ice.Glaciers have shaped mountains over the earth's history. They are still moving and changing land in many places today. Glaciers are not just needed for the land. When glaciers melt, the nutrients()from the water are good for life in rivers and oceans. In some places, glaciers provide water for people and animals.Glaciers in the world cover 10%of the land. They also hold 70%of the earth's fresh water. In areas like the Himalayas, many people need glacier water to live. This water fills big rivers, such as the Indus,Ganges and Brahmaputra. Why are glaciers disappearing(消失)？ Climate change is leading to serious problems for glaciers. Many glaciers have disappeared. The atmosphere()around the earth is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping most heat from getting out. This makes the earth warm enough for life. But when we burn wood and coal,we produce a gas called carbon dioxide.Too much of this gas pollutes the atmosphere and causes it to keep in too much heat.As the earth's temperature is increasing, glaciers melt faster. The influence(影响)of glaciers disappearing If glaciers disappear;there will be less water for us to drink and farm, while floods may happen more often.Mountains with glaciers are home to special ecosystems and a large number of animals. As temperatures rise and glaciers melt, they are not fit for these living things. 第7页，试卷共11页 Q夸克扫描王 极速扫描，就是高效 ▣ ()56.What can we know about glaciers in Paragraph2? Every living thing plays a role in this network. For example, bees and butterflies are very important for pollination(传粉).They cary pollen(花粉)from flower to flower. If there is no such an action, many plants couldn't make fruits or seeds.Bees also communicate to find food and store sweet honey in their honeycomb(蜂巢)，. Other small living things, like mushrooms, help to break down dead plants and animals, cleaning the forest and making the soil rich. This process removes decaying()things and creates nutrient-rich food for living plants. This amazing cycle shows how everything in nature is connected-even death gives life to new growth. Sadly, sometimes these connections are broken by human activities. When we cut down too many trees like bamboo or ginkgo, animals lose their homes.Forests, which once offered the living space to many frogs and butterflies, have fallen silent. Protecting nature means protecting ourselves in the long run.We can start small-plant trees or grow flowers like roses. When we understand we are also part of the ecosystem,we can learn to live in harmony with nature.Every effort we make today, whether big or small, will help build a better future for the natural world. 第9页，试卷共11页 ▣▣ Q夸克扫描王 极速扫描，就是高效百$ The Web of Life What is an >All the things are (76)A with each other in it. ecosystem?
