I’m not going to say that storms are good, because I know what they have stolen from people. I hear they have taken homes, cars, boats and lives. But that is not my story. My story is that a storm gave me more than I had thought to ask for.
My mother and I used to be content. She had her dream job as an editor (编辑) for a publishing company. She finally had an office with two large windows. I had my own room with a computer. I had a garden in our backyard. I used to plant flowers and vegetables, and water them there.
The storm happened on a Sunday. We were visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Raleigh, so we missed most of the excitement. The four of us were eating strawberries in their yard. We watched flying gray clouds in the western sky and talked about their beauty. We didn’t know that seventy miles away my garden was destroyed, the great tree in our front yard was broken, and half the house fell down, so did our yard wall.
I found out later that no one had been killed, but many houses were badly broken. It felt strange to return to a house that was half-broken, when the air was now quiet and the sky was clear enough to see stars appearing. Though we hardly knew them then, Rosita’s father and brothers were in our yard, bringing rubbish together and using a chain saw (链锯) to cut the thickest branches of the fallen tree. They were covered in sweat and dirt
My mom didn’t seem to notice how happy they were to be helping us because the first thing she said was “Oh, you don’t need to be doing all that work!” Mr Flores laughed and said, “Claro! Of course, we don’t. But more importantly, you can’t sleep in that house tonight. Come and speak to my wife. She will help you find out what to do.” My mom doesn’t usually let people tell her what to do, but she sighed (叹气) deeply as she saw our changed home in the dark light, reached for my hand, and followed our neighbor Mrs Flores to her house...
21.Why does the writer tell the bad sides of storms?
A.To lead into her unusual story.
B.To warn people to be careful of storms.
C.To tell the readers that storms are very terrible.
D.To provide people with advice on how to deal with storms.
22.What does the underlined word “content” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Stressed. B.Worried. C.Satisfied. D.Surprised.
23.Which of the following words can best describe the writer’s neighbors?
A.Kind and helpful. B.Strong and healthy. C.Serious and hopeful. D.Clever and thoughtful.
24.What might happen at the end of the story?
A.The writer and her mother might have a good rest in a hotel.
B.The writer and her mother might go back to her grandparents’.
C.The writer and her mother might stay in their house for the night.
D.The writer and her mother might spend the night at the neighbors’ house.
25.What is the best title for the text?
A.Why the storm was terrible B.What the storm gave us
C.Where we stayed for the night D.How we got on with neighbors
21.A 22.C 23.A 24.D 25.B
根据“I’m not going to say that storms are good...But that is not my story. My story is that a storm gave me more than I had thought to ask for.” 故选A。
根据“She had her dream job...I had my own room with a computer. I had a garden in our backyard.”
根据“Rosita’s father and brothers were in our yard, bringing rubbish together...They were covered in sweat and dirt”和“you can’t sleep in that house tonight. Come and speak to my wife. She will help you find out what to do”可知,Flores一家主动提供帮助,可见他们“善良且乐于助人”。故选A。
根据“followed our neighbor Mrs Flores to her house”及Mr Flores提到“you can’t sleep in that house tonight”可推断,母女俩当晚会借宿邻居家。故选D。

Do you like taking and sharing selfies? They’ve been among the most commonly shared types of pictures by users. Even LinkedIn, the world-famous job website, is filled with selfies. Now, researchers are actively studying the influence of selfies on people.
A recent study shows taking selfies can create the wrong idea of a thinner appearance. People believe girls look thinner in selfie photos than in those taken from other angles (角度). The study asked 272 volunteers to look at photos of 10 models dressed in exercise clothing. The models were photographed from three different angles: a selfie angle, a chin-down angle, and a straight-on angle. The researchers found the volunteers thought the models in the selfie photos were much thinner than in the other two angles.
The researchers also found there is a connection between social media use and people’s satisfaction with their physical appearance. However, the researchers pointed out several disadvantages of the study, such as a small number of volunteers and a lack (缺少) of good matching of photo angles between models. They could have influenced the judgments.
The future study could help us learn more. For example, it could look into how taking pictures from different angles affect how people judge different body shapes. It could also check if a person’s own height to-weight ratio (how tall and heavy they are) could change the way they judge others in photos.
“Many of us see selfies every day when we are on social media. We know filters (滤镜) can change the way bodies appear. The research suggests the angle from which the photo is taken can change our judgments about body size. So when we look at pictures on the Internet, even simple unfiltered selfies, what we see is not necessarily the same as real life,” the writers of the study said.
26.Why is the website LinkedIn mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A.To show the importance of the website. B.To show selfies are popular among users.
C.To show selfies influence our daily lives. D.To show all photos on LinkedIn are selfies.
27.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The study about selfies and its findings. B.Why the researchers carried out the study.
C.The differences of the photos from different angles. D.How selfies affect our ideas on our appearance.
28.Which of the following will the researchers agree with?
A.People will take fewer selfies because of this study.
B.Their findings have been widely accepted around the world.
C.Social media influences how satisfied we are with our appearance.
D.Selfies help people improve their ability to judge what is beautiful.
29.How will the researchers improve their study in the future?
A.By getting more selfies. B.By using the newest cameras.
C.By making good use of the social media. D.By including more things that influence people’s ideas.
30.What do the researchers mean by the words at the end of the text?
A.Online selfies may cheat us. B.Never make friends online.
C.We should use filters when taking selfies. D.We'd better reduce our time spent on social media.
26.B 27.A 28.C 29.D 30.A
根据文章第一段“They’ve been among the most commonly shared types of pictures by users. Even LinkedIn, the world-famous job website, is filled with selfies.”
根据文章第二段“A recent study shows taking selfies can create the wrong idea of a thinner appearance...The researchers found the volunteers thought the models in the selfie photos were much thinner than in the other two angles.” 故选A。
根据文章第三段“The researchers also found there is a connection between social media use and people’s satisfaction with their physical appearance.”
根据文章第四段“The future study could help us learn more. For example, it could look into how taking pictures from different angles affect how people judge different body shapes. It could also check if a person’s own height to-weight ratio could change the way they judge others in photos.”
根据文章最后一段“The research suggests the angle from which the photo is taken can change our judgments about body size. So when we look at pictures on the Internet, even simple unfiltered selfies, what we see is not necessarily the same as real life”可知,研究表明拍照的角度会改变我们对体型的判断,因此我们在网上看到的照片,即使是简单的未经过滤的自拍,也不一定与现实生活相同。 故选A。
“Don’t try to change me.” 31 It is often used by people who regard change as a kind of attack (攻击) on their identity (身份). Any suggestion of improvement or an idea of reading a self-help book seems like they are not being accepted just the way they are. But is there a person in this world who never changes during their whole life?
If you think about it, change is something that is happening to us every day. Our experiences and the challenges we face, the people we meet on our way, and the things we watch, read or hear all influence us one way or the other, making us change gradually. 32 I believe that intentional (有意的) change in the form of self-improvement is something to be proud of.
33 We don’t trust the things that we know little about because we are not sure about the result they will bring. After years of being stuck in the same habits and patterns of thinking, we may be afraid of breaking the normal way we do things.
How does one break this cycle? 34 In order for anyone to change, they have to truly want it and make that decision on their own. Once they do, what they need is to find good ways to make an achievement. 35 Think about what can be done differently in the future instead of repeating the same behaviors and expecting a different result.
A.Perhaps changing makes us uneasy.
B.Another, probably more common way is to learn from experiences.
C.You may feel great after changing yourself.
D.Because life is not always staying the same.
E.You surely have heard it in many situations during your life.
F.It can only be done through a decision to change something.
【答案】31.E 32.D 33.A 34.F 35.B

When Nejat began developing robots in 2005, she spent most of her time knocking on other 36 doors to let them know her robots, but few of them showed interest. “But now, it’s different,” says Nejat. “People calling from around the world ask when 37 robots are going to be ready.”
Nejat’s robots are 38 to fill an increasing need: care-giving for the old. It’s said that the population of people aged over 80 will be 426 million in 2050, three times 39 than that now.
Such robots could be 40 for patients with Alzheimer’s disease They can help with everyday 41 , such as preparing food, reminding the patients of taking their drugs or receiving the medical treatment. They can also play games with patients to keep them active.
Some have 42 that care-giving robots might cut down human interaction and cause more people to lose their jobs. “But the aim 43 to support a human care, not to take the place of it,” says one scientist. He has tested robots with different patients, and found that daily interaction with robots can 44 help children with autism (孤独症) improve communication skills.
As the field grows, scientists aim to understand the relationship between humans and robots better. Do robots have advantages because they don’t have feelings and don’t give their opinions? Will parents lose interest? “One thing is clear,” another scientist says. “Robots can 45 care for the customers and the need for that will increase in the future.”

故填is。

With the rapid development of information technology, the upgrading (升级) of smart phones is quick. And more and more wasted phones are thrown away. In America, 151.8 million phones go to waste in just a year. And the number is still increasing year by year. So how to recycle the wasted mobile phones safely is worthy of further discussion.
Wasted mobile phones actually have “two faces”. On the one hand, wasted mobile phones can be taken as valuable materials because many of them are rich in valuable metals which can be reused. What’s more, other parts of wasted mobile phones can also be made into beautiful things with creativity.
