Once upon a time, there lived a girl in ancient China named Mulan. Although her father was too old and weak to fight, he could still teach her to ride a horse and use a sword (剑). Girls usually did not learn these skills at that time. But Mulan’s father believed everyone should know how to fight, even girls. And Mulan also believed that girls could be as brave as men.
One day, the emperor (皇帝) sent soldiers to Mulan’s village. Because war was coming, men were needed for the army. The army leader of the soldiers put up a list of names in the village square. Each name meant one man from each family.
Mulan saw her father’s name on the list. She knew her father couldn’t fight in a war. Mulan’s brother was a little child. Only Mulan could take her father’s place. But the army did not take girls as replacements for fighting men.
Quietly the next morning, before her father could report for duty, Mulan stole her father’s armor (盔甲). She dressed herself up as a man. The soldiers accepted “him” in her father’s place. Mulan was very careful and fought bravely as other soldiers over the years. No one found that she was a girl. When the war was over, Mulan received a special award from the emperor for her courage. The emperor gave her a horse and a bag of treasure.
Her family greeted her with joy. Her brother was pleased with the gift of her army clothes. Mulan dressed once again in the clothes of a woman. That evening, Mulan and her family got together to watch the sunset.
Two of the men who had worked with Mulan in the war stopped by her home on their way home. When Mulan greeted them, they could not believe their eyes. One of them shouted, “Are you really Mulan?”
After recalling many moments, they finally believed that Mulan was a woman. They spread Mulan’s story across China. It inspired many young women, and they wanted to learn to ride a horse and use a sword.

A. Because she dreamed of becoming a soldier and gaining honor.

Most of us know Einstein as the great mathematician and scientist. However, to Banesh Hoffmann, the great man was also a friend. Here is what he wrote about Albert Einstein.
Albert Einstein was one of the greatest scientists in the world. But if I had to describe him in a single word, I’d choose “simplicity”. Let’s learn more about him.
Once, he was caught in a downpour. Surprisingly, he only took off his hat and held it under his coat. When people asked why he did that, he said the rain would damage the hat. But his hair would be fine even if it was completely wet.
I first met him in 1935, at the institute (学院) for Advanced Study in Princeton. He was among the first to work there. The director paid him a large amount of money. But to everyone’s surprise, he only took a little.
I respected him very much, so I hesitated before going to his office to ask for help. When I finally knocked on his door, a gentle voice said, “Come in.” I entered and found he was sitting at a table, calculating (计算) and smoking, with his hair in a mess. As I began to explain my ideas, he asked me to write the equations (方程式) on the blackboard so he could see how they developed. Then he said gently, “Please go slowly. I do not understand things quickly.” I couldn’t believe it was from him. From then on, all my fear was gone. It’s said that through a drop of water we can see the light of the day, and that with a grain of sand we can feel the whole world. Today, these little things in life let us see the personality charm (魅力) of this great scientist.
29. What did Banesh Hoffmann think of Albert Einstein?
A. He thought he was simple. B. He thought he was strict.
C. He thought he was unfriendly. D. He thought he was magical.
30. What does the underlined word “downpour” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Waterfall. B. Strong wind. C. Heavy rain. D. Heavy snow.
31. What can we learn about Albert Einstein from Paragraph 4?
A. He was surprised to see Hoffmann. B. He enjoyed giving surprises to others.
C. He got lots of money from the director. D. He didn’t ask for lots of money in his work.
32. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. How Einstein changed the world. B. What Einstein was like in his friend’s eyes.
C. Why we should show our respect to scientists. D. When Einstein became famous around the world.
A 30. C 31. D 32. B

Congratulations to the China National Space Administration (中国国家航天局) on the launch of three “taikonauts” on their Shenzhou 12 mission to the Tianhe space station.
On June 17th, 2021, China sent three taikonauts to space. The space agencies of Europe and Russia both used the word “taikonauts” in their online posts to congratulate China.
“Taikonaut” is used specifically for Chinese astronauts. The word is made from Chinese and Greek: “taikong” (space) + “naut” (sailor) = a sailor of space.
But “taikonaut” is more than just a word. Its history shows that of China’s space journey. China started its manned spacecraft engineering (载人航天工程) in 1992. At first, it was far behind the USA and Russia. 6 years later, the word “taikonaut” was made by a Chiew Lee Yih from Malaysia in newsgroups. However, back then few people picked up on it, as China was still rather weak at that time.
Yang Liwei was China’s first taikonaut in space in 2003. After his flight, the word "taikonaut" became popular. He once gave a speech to share his preparation for the missions and the hard work of being a taikonaut.
Since 1998, China has trained 34 taikonauts. They all passed very difficult tests. These taikonauts are chosen from the best pilots, engineers, and scientists. They must pass many tests to become real taikonauts.
Behind these taikonauts are hundreds of thousands of other workers that do their jobs to get the taikonauts into space and make certain of their safe return. It is the great efforts of everyone in this project that has made “taikonaut” from just a word on the paper into the reality, and all of them should share the honor of the taikonauts’ tasks. The meanings of the word will be further developed and we hope more taikonauts will appear.
33. When was the word “taikonaut” first used?
A. In 1992. B. In 1998. C. In 2003. D. In 2021.
34. According to the passage, why has the word “taikonaut” become more accepted since 2003?
A. It shows China’s history in space science.
B. 34 pilots have passed the test and become real taikonauts.
C. People use it to congratulate China on the new achievement.
D. China has successfully launched the first astronaut.
35. Which of the following shows the correct order?
a. China started training taikonauts.
b. China successfully sent a taikonaut into space.
c. China started manned spacecraft engineering.
d. ESA and Roscosmos used “taikonauts” to congratulate China.
e. The USA and Russia got success in manned spacecraft engineering.
A. c-a-d-e-b B. e-c-a-b-d C. c-d-a-b-e D. e-b-a-d-c

46. jokes##okes
47. Though##hough
48. awful##wful
49. regretted##egretted
50. ashamed##shamed
根据“I wanted to help him, I was afraid because they were much taller than me”可知,前后句为转折关系,且空格后没有逗号,故用though“尽管”引导让步状语从句,位于句首首字母要大写。

In Tom’s class, students _________ always _________ __________ help each other.
【答案】 ①. are ②. taught##asked##told ③. to
故填are;taught/asked/told;to。
52. Tom
Tom _________ _________ _________ ___________ others.
【答案】 ①. has/is ②. interest/interested ③. in ④. helping
感兴趣”的固定表达是“be interested in…” 故填has/is;interest/interested;in;helping。
Seeing the little boy crying, he realized that the boy must _________ _________ _________.
【答案】 ①. be ②. in ③. trouble
故填be; in; trouble。
54. Tom
Tom thinks that _________ _________ ___________ __________ others when they are in need.
【答案】 ①. it’s ②. important ③. to ④. help
是重要的”这一含义,且that从句需符合“It is + adj. + to do sth”的固定句型。空格后为“others when they are in need”,因此需填入“it is important to help”,其中“it”作形式主语,真正主语为不定式“to help others when they are in need”;根据空格数可知,“it is”需缩写为it’s。故填it’s;important;to;help。
55. Tom
__________ __________ _________ _________ Tom is!
What ②. a ③. kind ④. boy
故填What;a;kind;boy。

Quietly, the next morning, before her father could report for duty, Mulan stole her father’s armor (盔甲). She dressed herself up as a man. The soldiers accepted “him” in her father’s place.

A In 1992. B. In 1998. C. In 2003. D. In 2021.
34. According to the passage, why has the word “taikonaut” become more accepted since 2003?
A. It shows China’s history in space science.

C. People use it to congratulate China on the new achievement.
D. China has successfully launched the first astronaut.
35. Which of the following shows the correct order?
