How to Protect the Environment
The environment is getting worse and worse. More and more natural disasters are appearing, which keeps us facing a serious threat. Good environment can make people feel happy and fit. Improving the environment means protecting ourselves. We mustn’t cut down trees. Instead, we should plant more trees. Meanwhile, we should stop factories from pouring waste water into rivers and giving off waste gas into the air. Never litter anywhere. Never spit in public. Don’t draw on public walls. It’s everyone’s duty to protect the environment.

As soon as Ryan Marcelo turns on his computer, time seems to stop. After starting playing his favourite game, his eyes fixed on the characters on the screen. “I play every day, sometimes for more than four hours,” Ryan, a 14-year-old Canadian boy, said, “When I finish playing, my eyes are heavy and I just feel really tired.”
A familiar story? In families with children and computers, there’s a good chance of meeting children like Ryan, who spend too much time in front of their computers. And these children are starting to feel pains as a result of long-time computer use.
“What we’re seeing is that children’s levels of computer-related (由电脑引起的) discomfort are close to adults,” said Ms. Fraser, an engineer. “They’re reporting that they have problems with their eyes, and that they’re feeling discomfort in their necks, backs and in their hands, arms and wrists.”
A research report show show computing has become an everyday part of life for Canadian children. Nearly 40%of children aged 4 to 11 have their own computers, and more than 20% have mobile phones. They use them to send messages to friends too often.
But is the growing use of technology among children the main reason for computer-related health problems? Although there is little research in this area, the few studies suggest that such problems are quite common among children and teens. The researchers studied students aged 10 to 17 with laptop programmes. They found that about 60% said they felt uncomfortable, mostly in the neck and shoulder areas.
Part of the problem is that many of today’s computer games aren’t specially designed for children’s hands. Also most keyboards and computer mouses are too big for them. When children use the computer, they’re usually sitting in an adult-sized chair facing an adult-sized desk. And they need to take breaks—once every 20 minutes—where they get up for at least two minutes and walk.
( )47.The example of Ryan Marcelo in Paragraph 1 is to _____________.

( )50.What is the main reason for children’s computer-related health problems?
A.Adult-sized chairs and desks. B.The growing use of technology.

A.Ryan’s Health Problem B.Say No to Video Games

As the sun goes down, a new trend is growing across China: libraries that stay open all day and night. These bright places give students, workers, and anyone who needs a quiet spot to read or study a special place to go.
Besides being open around the clock and having lots of different kinds of books, these libraries also have good study setups (设施), such as water, electricity and power plugs. Some even have drinks available, and places to eat.
For Ye, a 25-year-old person, the local 24-hour library is a very useful resource as she prepares for an exam. Working full-time, she finds that regular library hours don’t fit her study schedule. “Regular local libraries usually open at 9:00 a. m. and close by 10:00 p. m., which is not handy for me. I can only focus on studying early in the morning or late at night,” Ye explained.
According to a report, in April, the average grown-ups in China read about 4.75 paper books and 3.4 e-books in 2023.
By the end of 2023, China had 3,246 public libraries with a total of 1.44 billion books, which is a 5.6 percent rise from 2022.
“People’s interest in public cultural places shows how much more they care about their cultural lives. For them, going to museums and libraries is not just fun; it’s part of their lifestyle,” Sun Jiashan, a researcher, told the Global Times.

D.They are perfect for her schedule.
( )54.The average Chinese adults read ______ in total in 2023.
A.4.75 paper books
B.3.4 e-books
C.8.15 books
D.1.44 billion books
( )55.What can we infer about the trend of 24-hour libraries?
A.They are growing rapidly.
B.They are becoming less popular.
C.They have effect only on students.

A.The Importance of Traditional Libraries
