B My mother always said, “You young men should explore your own country before stepping out into the world.” It seemed like a tough task. But luckily for me, VIA Rail Canada offered the youth between the ages of 18 and 25 the chance to ride the train across Canada for the month of July in 2017. I jumped at the opportunity and secured an inexpensive ticket. Excitement was at its peak as I approached the train station in the morning when my 22-day adventure was to begin. I jumped on the train like it was the one to Hogwarts in Harry Potter. The train headed west in search of our first destination—the scenic town of Banff, Alberta. After just an hour on the train, I already got desperate. The thought of three full days on those tracks broke my spirit. As I gazed out towards Lake Superior’s glistening waves, I decided that if I was to be stuck in here, I would need to enjoy my time. Those three days turned into a summer camp on rails. Real friendships with the crew were born within that train. Stops were made in small, remote railroad villages. A large group of strangers who turned travelling companions would rush towards the villages to reward our endless patience with local cuisine. At night, we would walk to the glass-domed train car, which gave a scenic view of the night sky, untouched by light pollution. After three days, we reached Banff. Before my adventure of taking the train across Canada, if I could have skipped the travel and got to the destination, I would have. But that’s no longer true. I’ve learned the journey can be more enjoyable than the destination. ( )4. What made the author’s train trip possible? A. The encouragement from his mother. B. The attraction of the splendid scenery. C. A time-limited ticket offered to the youth. D. His determination to face the tough tasks. ( )5. What did the author experience after one hour on the train? Determined. ( )7. What has the author learned from his adventure? A. To enjoy travelling on his own. B. To be content with the train service. C. To skip to the final destination. D. To explore more in the process. C “If you have ever suffered for my sweetness, I am willing to live as your wish. May it not be in vain, may we move forward bravely, in this prosperous world every day ...” The song “As You Wish” resonated(回荡) in front of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven. However, passers-by were surprised to find that the performers of this Chinese song were a children’s choir from the US called One Voice Children’s Choir. After the final performance of their China tour, One Voice founder Masa Fukuda said that he felt much honored to receive so much attention. He stated that everyone in the choir had a wonderful experience in China. Fukuda believes that despite cultural differences, everyone can relate to the same messages. Fukuda explained that One Voice was just singing for fun at the Temple of Heaven at that time. Once they started singing, many people gathered around, and the video later spread on social media. Fukuda was very surprised to learn that the video had received over a million likes. “I believe ‘As You Wish’ is a song that ties people together,” said Fukuda. “Although our cultures may be different, there is so much that we can all relate to those same messages. I hope that no matter what people are going through, the content conveyed by the song will touch and inspire them.” During the final performance, Fukuda and the children couldn’t help but cry while continuously waving goodbye to the Chinese audience. “This is our last performance in China. The warm welcome from the Chinese people moved us deeply, touching our hearts and making every child cry. We love China and we love the Chinese people.” ( )8. Where did the One Voice Children’s Choir perform the song “As You Wish”? A. In a virtual choir. B. At the Temple of Heaven. C. On a television show. D. In front of a meeting hall. ( )9. Cultural differences limited its performance. ( )10. What does Masa Fukuda think of “As You Wish”? A. It is suitable for cultural celebrations. B. It is famous all over the world. C. It focuses on cultural differences. D. It connects people across cultures. ( )11. How did One Voice members feel during the final performance? A. They were curious about the Chinese culture. B. They were excited about their performance. C. They were touched by Chinese people’s warmth. D. They were amazed to receive a warm welcome in China. D Phonetic(语音的) information—the smallest sound elements of speech—is considered by researchers to be the basis of language. Babies are thought to learn these small sound elements and add them together to make words. But a new study suggests that phonetic information is learnt too late and slowly for this to be the case. Instead, rhythmic(有节奏的) speech helps babies learn language and is effective even in the first few months of life. Researchers from the University of Cambridge and Trinity College Dublin investigated babies’ ability to process phonetic information during their first year. Their study, published in the journal Nature Communications, found that phonetic information wasn’t successfully encoded until seven months old, and did not occur very often at 11 months old when babies began to say their first words. From then on, individual speech sounds were still added in very slowly—too slowly to form the basis of language. The researchers recorded patterns of brain activity in 50 babies at four, seven, and eleven months old as they watched a video of a primary school teacher singing 18 nursery rhymes(童谣) to a baby. They found that phonetic encoding in babies appeared inchmeal over the first year of life, beginning with labial(唇的) sounds and nasal(从鼻腔发出的) sounds, with the “read-out” progressively looking more like that of adults. “The reason why we use nursery rhymes is that it is the best way for babies to discover and connect sounds with language, so we are teaching them how to speak,” said researchers. “Parents should talk and sing to their babies as much as possible or use baby-directed speech like nursery rhymes because it will make a difference to the language outcome,” said Professor Goswami. ( )12. What should babies learn in the first few months of life according to the new study? A. Small sound elements. B. Rhythmic information. C. Phonetic information. D. Individual words. ( )13. What does the author mainly discuss in Paragraph 2? A. The poor phonetic encoding in babies. B. The advantages of phonetic information. C. The babies’ great ability to learn language. D. The babies’ growing process in the first year. ( )14. What does the underlined word “inchmeal” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Gradually. B. Suddenly. C. Successfully. D. Occasionally. ( )15. What is the best title for the text? A. When babies are able to say their first words B. How phonetic information changes over time C. Why phonetic information is better than rhythmic speech for babies D. Why babies need nursery rhymes for the mastery of language 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Although holidays only last a few days each year, many of us spend months planning for them. While all the parties and festivities might be enjoyable, many people find they feel a bit burnt-out once the holidays have come and gone.   16 . Here’s why this happens and what you can do to recover after the holidays are over. Many of us are exposed to various stressors over a very short period of time throughout the holiday season—whether it’s queuing for presents, sitting in traffic on the way to visit friends or family, or even worrying about money. As soon as your brain senses a stressor, it stimulates your sympathetic nervous system(交感神经系统). When the sympathetic nervous system is activated, the body produces adrenaline(肾上腺素) and begins working harder.   17 . One way to reduce the negative impact of stress is to experience positive emotions. Recalling can help you get a new view on your experiences, which helps you see your life in a more balanced way.   18 . Discuss them with family members and friends. The more effort you put into this activity, the better your results will be.   19 . Before going to bed, try to vividly imagine four positive events that could happen to you the next day. They might be as simple as receiving a message from someone you care about. Then as soon as you are ready, go to bed. This tip will help you get a good night’s sleep—sleep is important for helping you to recover from burnout.   20 , remembering why we choose to celebrate them with friends or family can help us overcome any stress and burnout that we may now be experiencing. A. So holidays are a time of joy B. The second way is to listen to music C. Another way is to get a good night’s sleep D. Recall good times using reminders such as photographs E. Although holidays can certainly be stressful times for many of us F. This feeling has even been termed “festive burnout” or “holiday burnout” G. You may experience these changes like feeling sweatier or having a pounding heart 16.________ 17.________ 18.________ 19.________ 20.________ 第二部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)高考趋势性主题学习体验 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、 B、 C、 D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Sean Atitsogbe is a young boy from Lilburn, Georgia. He thought of Papa, who was visiting his sick grandpa in Jamaica. “I’ll try to help Mama while you’re gone,” Marcus had promised his father. His little brother, Peter, sat beside him. “When will we get our Christmas tree, Marcus?” Peter asked. “I can’t wait to decorate it with Mama’s straw birds.” “We won’t get a tree this year, Peter,” Marcus said. “Too much money was spent on Grandpa’s illness. We can’t afford one.” Someone knocked on their door. A kid from the neighborhood rushed in. He looked around and said, “No tree yet? We bought a big tree a week ago! It’s up to the ceiling(天花板). Just two more days till Christmas! I guess you will not get a tree.” He laughed and ran away. On hearing the words, Peter couldn’t control his tears. Sadly, Marcus walked slowly to his room and shook his piggy bank. Only seven dollars! Far from enough! Mama was too tired to make a living. He decided to earn more on his own. He delivered the milk on his way to school and after school, he stayed busy pushing carts to help shoppers. In the evening, he looked after the babies for neighbors. Two days later, six more dollars jingled(发出叮当声) in his pocket. “My lucky day,” he thought. Thirteen dollars should be enough to buy a small tree. He whistled all the way on the street with excited Peter. But even the smallest trees were $15 or more. “We’ll never get a tree, Marcus,” Peter cried, tears in eyes. Marcus didn’t answer. He saw a small tree planted in a can. “Is that one for sale, sir?” “That’s my last growing tree,” the seller said. “It’s small now, but it will grow tall.” “How much does it cost?” asked Marcus. “It’s Christmas Eve. For you, $8,” answered the man. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Paragraph 1: “But it’s so small,” Peter complained. ______________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When they were busy decorating the tree,Mama came in. _______________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案: 1-15、BCBCD BDBAD CBAAD;16-20、FGDCE;21-35、CBACD BDACB DABCD; 36.  traditional 37.  from 38.  to wear 39.  spirits 40. has lasted 41.  which 42.  are decorated 43.  an 44.  strengthen 45.  to connect 46. Dear Mike, In your last letter, you mentioned that you wanted to know something about the Dragon Boat Festival. Knowing that you are interested in the traditional Chinese culture, I am willing to tell you something about it. As one of the most traditional festivals in China, the Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. People celebrate this festival in memory of Qu Yuan, a well-known Chinese poet who made great contributions to his country. During this festival, people in China will hold a variety of activities to honor him, such as the dragon boat racing and eating zongzi. I hope you will come here and experience this wonderful festival. Yours, Li Hua 47. Paragraph 1: “But it’s so small,” Peter complained.  “Being small isn’t a bad thing. You’re small, but you are special,” Marcus told his brother as he paid for the tree. “It will grow bigger, just like you.” Peter’s eyes opened wide.“There are 5 dollars left. Let’s go to the store,” Marcus said. They shopped quickly—a scarf for Mama; a coloring book for Peter; a wallet for Marcus. Peter giggled, “Mama will be surprised.” They hurried home. Marcus set their tree on the table and Peter couldn’t wait to place straw birds on the branches. Paragraph 2: When they were busy decorating the tree,Mama came in. What came into view really astonished her. Lovely straw birds were in a lovely small Christmas tree; presents were on the sofa. “What happened? Santa Claus came?” asked Mama. “Marcus is Santa!” Peter replied, dashing to Mama. “He worked and earned some money. He bought the Christmas tree and presents.” “But I can’t afford a big tree, Mama,” Marcus said, hanging his head. “My dear, it is the biggest and most beautiful tree in my heart!” said Mama. Hugging the two boys tightly, Mama couldn’t contain her joyful tears. 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
