Unfortunately I found myself in that terrible situation, by no fault of my own. Losing my job after twelve years of loyal service, then my landlord evicted me because I had no money to pay the rent. Feeling embarrassed about the situation I faced, I kept it a secret from my parents, who lived miles away. Maybe I should have asked for help, but something in the back of my mind stopped me every time I picked up a phone, hoping everything would work out in the end. If only that were true. In December, as happy families went shopping for Christmas, I would watch them from a shop entrance with only a thin blanket to keep me warm. On over one occasion, I would cry under the blanket (毛毯), so no one could see me. I was so ashamed. How could things have got so bad? A few days later, the most wonderful thing happened. While the snow fell heavily and my blanket was wet through, a man approached me with a kind smile, and he said, “It’s freezing, buddy. I can’t have you staying out here tonight, especially on the Christmas holidays, as if anything happened to you, I couldn’t live with myself.” I looked up at him and a tear came to my eye. “Why would you help me?” I replied. The man gently placed a hand on my shoulder, and then said, “It’d be nice to have someone with me again after losing my Betty last year. And there was me thinking I was going to spend Christmas on my own.” He laughed. There was something about him I trusted, so I took his hand. At that moment a warmth was felt from deep down inside, and I believed in miracles again. 4. What does the underlined word probably mean in paragraph 1? A. Turned in. B. Took in. C. Helped out. D. Threw out. 5. Why didn’t the author tell his parents about his situation? A. His parents were strict with him. B. He was confident of his future. C. He felt ashamed of himself. D. His parents refused to help. 6. What do we know about the man? A. He knew the author. B. He owned the shop. C. He hated Christmas. D. He lost his loved one. 7. Which of the following best describes the author’s experience? A. Adventurous. B. Embarrassing. C. Extraordinary. D. Challenging. D 5. C 6. D 7. 结合后文语境“because I had no money to pay the rent(因为我没有钱支付房租)”可推知,没钱交房租的结果必然是被房东“赶出”住处。 根据文章第一段末尾内容“Feeling embarrassed about the situation I faced, I kept it a secret from my parents, who lived miles away.(由于对所面临的状况感到尴尬,我将此事瞒着住在很远地方的父母)”可知,他为自己的处境感到尴尬羞愧,因此,没有告知父母。 根据文章第六段内容这位男士的话“It’d be nice to have someone with me again after losing my Betty last year.(去年失去了Betty之后,能再次有个人陪伴在我身边真是太好了)”可知,这位男士去年失去了Betty,一个陪伴自己身边的人,由此推知,Betty有可能是这位男士所爱的人。 根据文章第一段“Losing my job after twelve years of loyal service, then my landlord evicted me because I had no money to pay the rent.(在忠诚服务了十二年后,我失去了工作,然后我的房东把我赶走了,因为我没有钱付房租)”,第三段“In December, as happy families went shopping for Christmas, I would watch them from a shop entrance with only a thin blanket to keep me warm.(在十二月,当幸福的家庭们纷纷出门购买圣诞礼物时,我则会蜷缩在一家店铺的入口处,只裹着一条薄薄的毯子来抵御寒冷)”,第四段“It’s freezing, buddy. I can’t have you staying out here tonight, especially on the Christmas holidays…(天气太冷了,伙计。今晚我不能让你留在外面,尤其是在圣诞节期间……)”以及末尾段落内容“At that moment a warmth was felt from deep down inside, and I believed in miracles again.(就在那一刻,一股温暖从内心深处涌起,我再次相信了奇迹的存在)”可知,作者从无家可归的绝望,到被陌生人善意拯救,重拾对奇迹的信念,由此推知,他的整个经历是非同寻常的。故选C项。 C Australia has passed a law that aims to prevent people younger than 16 from using social media. The law is meant to protect young people, but some people say it could create more problems than it solves. Under the new law, social media companies must take “reasonable steps” to prevent anyone under 16 from creating an account. If the companies do not follow the law, they could be fined up to US $32 million. Many people in Australia seem to agree. Recent surveys show that 77% of people in Australia are in favor of the law. People are worried about how social media can hurt young people’s mental health. Many people have heard stories about young people who have been bullied (霸凌) online and later hurt themselves. But not everyone agrees that the new law is a good idea. Some people believe the law will make it harder for young people to connect with others who can support them. Others worry that the social media ban (禁令) will push young people toward less safe parts of the Internet. One of the biggest problems is how the social media companies will figure out how old their users are. The law says the companies must give people a way to prove their age without sending in a government ID, but it’s not clear how this might work. The demand that the companies collect even more information raises worries about the privacy of young people. Other countries have also taken steps to limit social media use by young people. In France, people under 15 can not use social media without agreement from a parent. Countries like the UK and Norway are considering similar laws. Some US states have passed laws limiting social media for young people, though these laws have been challenged in court. 8. What does the underlined word “fined” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Added. B. Cheated. C. Punished. D. Lent. 9. What do Australians think of the new law? A. They all agree to it. B. They are all against it. C. They hold different opinions. D. They are very worried about it. 10. What is the biggest problem in carrying out the law for social media companies? A. How to find out users’ ages. B. How to use users’ ID cards. C. How to protect users’ privacy. D. How to collect users’ thoughts. 11. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us? A. Many European countries are passing similar laws. B. France also has no age limit for using social media. C. A number of laws of the US have been challenged. D. Teenagers’ use of social media has attracted global attention. C 9. C 10. A 11. 根据划线单词上文“Under the new law, social media companies must take “reasonable steps” to prevent anyone under 16 from creating an account.(根据新法律,社交媒体公司必须采取“合理措施”阻止 16 岁以下的任何人创建帐户)”和划线单词所在句子“If the companies do not follow the law, they could be fined up to US $32 million.(如果这些公司不遵守法律,可能会被fined以最高 3200 万美元)”可知,法律规定社交媒体公司必须采取“合理措施”阻止16岁以下的任何人创建帐户,所以如果有公司不遵守法律,那么他们会受到惩罚。 根据第二段中“Many people in Australia seem to agree.(许多澳大利亚人似乎都同意)”和第三段中“But not everyone agrees that the new law is a good idea.(但并非所有人都认为新法律是个好主意)”可推知,澳大利亚人对于新法律的观点不一。 根据倒数第二段中“One of the biggest problems is how the social media companies will figure out how old their users are.(最大的问题之一是社交媒体公司如何计算出用户的年龄)”可知,社交媒体公司执法中最大的问题是如何找出用户的年龄。故选A。 根据最后一段“Other countries have also taken steps to limit social media use by young people. In France, people under 15 can not use social media without agreement from a parent. Countries like the UK and Norway are considering similar laws. Some US states have passed laws limiting social media for young people, though these laws have been challenged in court.(其他国家也采取措施限制年轻人使用社交媒体。在法国,未经父母同意,15 岁以下的人不能使用社交媒体。英国和挪威等国家正在考虑类似的法律。美国一些州已经通过了限制年轻人使用社交媒体的法律,尽管这些法律在法庭上受到了质疑)”可知,最后一段主要讲了青少年对社交媒体的使用引起了全球的关注。故选D。 D Plastics (塑料) are amazing materials which are widely used in our daily lives. Besides, they’re often cheap to make. About 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced to date. That’s about 1,400 times the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Some of that plastic is still in use. But about 5.8 billion metric tons have been thrown away. All that plastic waste is an environmental threat. Only about 9 percent of plastic waste has been recycled. Another 12 percent has been burned. The remaining 79 percent ended up in landfills or in nature, which, like the Lego block, takes a long time to decompose (降解). Plastic litters the world from the highest mountaintop to the deepest seafloor. Many animals might regard this rubbish as food. If they get full, these animals may forget to eat real food and suffer. Plastic rubbish in the oceans also leaves birds, turtles and other wildlife in a jam. Big pieces of plastic aren’t the only problem. Abandoned plastic can break into tiny bits called microplastics. Winds blow these bits far and wide. Ocean waves can spread them through the sea. They build up inside animals and also get into our food and drinking water. Each American is likely to consume (摄入/吞食) more than 70,000 microplastic pieces per year. Right now, no one knows what risk that might bring. Scientists have some ideas about how to clean up this mess. The Ocean Cleanup is developing cleanup systems to fish out plastic pieces from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. And new technology could help microplastics decompose in the environment. But as far as I know, many of these plans are still far from effective (有效的) so far. The best way to help Earth right now is to stop buying so much plastic — and then throwing it out — in the first place. 12. What does the Lego block show about plastic waste? A. It is hard to break down. B. Little of it has been burned. C. It is easy to be recycled. D. Most of it ends up in landfills. 13. How might the plastic rubbish influence animals? A. By making them suffer from hunger. B. By reducing their food. C. By piling up in their homes. D. By changing the environment. 14. What is the author’s attitude to the present methods of cleaning plastic waste? A. Objective(客观的). B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable. 15. Why does the author write the text? A. To criticize plastic production. B. To suggest ways to deal with environmental issues. C. To call on people to protect the environment. D. To introduce the present(目前的) situation of plastic pollution. A 13. A 14. C 15. 根据文章第二段内容“The remaining 79 percent ended up in landfills or in nature, which, like the Lego block, takes a long time to decompose.(剩下的79%最终被填埋或进入大自然,就像乐高积木一样,需要很长时间才能分解。)” 故选A项。 根据文章第三段内容“Many animals might regard this rubbish as food. If they get full, these animals may forget to eat real food and suffer.(许多动物可能把这些垃圾当作食物。如果它们吃饱了,这些动物可能会忘记吃真正的食物而受苦。)”可知,许多动物把塑料垃圾当作食物,如果它们吃撑了,就可能会忘记吃真正的食物,从而遭受饥饿之苦。故选A项。 根据文章最后一段内容“But as far as I know, many of these plans are still far from effective so far.(但据我所知,到目前为止,这些计划中的许多还远未生效。)” 通读文章内容,结合第一段关键语句“Plastics are amazing materials which are widely used in our daily lives. Besides, they’re often cheap to make. About 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced to date.(塑料是一种神奇的材料,广泛应用于我们的日常生活中。此外,它们的制造成本通常很低。迄今为止,已经生产了大约83亿吨塑料。)”,第二段“All that plastic waste is an environmental threat.(所有这些塑料垃圾都是对环境的威胁。)”以及最后一段“But as far as I know, many of these plans are still far from effective so far. The best way to help Earth right now is to stop buying so much plastic — and then throwing it out — in the first place.(但据我所知,到目前为止,这些计划中的许多还远未奏效。现在帮助地球的最好方法是首先停止购买这么多塑料,然后扔掉。)”可知,全文围绕塑料污染的现状展开,包括产量、处理方式、危害及应对方案,由此推知,其核心目的是介绍塑料污染的整体情况。故选D项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Life in senior high schools can be exciting, but also tiring. ___16___ Therefore, it’s easy to forget things, especially in the morning when you’re still a bit sleepy. How can you reduce stress levels and make sure you leave home feeling unhurried and prepared? Here are some tips for creating a productive, focused and energizing morning routine. Prepare the night before The best way to ensure your morning runs smoothly is to prepare for it the night before. ___17___ Select books and check you have the essentials, like reading glasses. Lay out your uniform. And if you take a packed lunch, check whether it’s ready. ___18___ Some people rise very easily, but others take more time to feel awake. Build extra time into your routine if you find mornings hard. If you have an alarm clock, try to get up as soon as it goes off. Doing something right away can help you feel awake. You could also do some stretches as you listen to a song. Do essential tasks in order There are a few things you need to do in the morning. To build a routine, it can be helpful to do these in the same order each day. Examples are taking a shower, cleaning your teeth, dressing and checking your school bag. If you’re forgetful, have a list pinned up so you can check things off as you go. ___19___ Eat a good breakfast Not everyone feels hungry when they wake, but this changes when you start moving — such as walking to school. After sleep, your body has been without food for a long time. The word “breakfast” reflects this — it’s a meal you use to “break” your “fast” (a fast is a period of time where you don’t eat). ___20___ Foods like bread or porridge provide energy. Have a drink, too. A. Wake yourself your way. B. Early to bed and early to rise. C. Your brain can feel overloaded. D. Soon it will become second nature. E. Eating something tops up your fuel tank. F. Skipping breakfast increases the risk of heart diseases. G. Check your timetable and pack what you need for school. C 17. G 18. A 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“Life in senior high schools can be exciting, but also tiring.(高中生活可能令人兴奋,但也容易让人疲惫)”,以及后文“Therefore, it’s easy to forget things, especially in the morning when you’re still a bit sleepy.(因此,人很容易忘事,尤其是在早上还有些犯困的时候)”可知,此空需解释“疲惫”与“忘事”之间的因果关系,作为衔接。C选项“Your brain can feel overloaded.(你的大脑可能会感觉超负荷)”符合语境。故选C项。 【17题详解】 根据本段小标题“Prepare the night before(提前夜间准备)”,以及前文“The best way to ensure your morning runs smoothly is to prepare for it the night before.(确保早上顺利的最佳方法是前一晚做好准备)”和后文“Select books and check you have the essentials...(挑选书本,检查必备物品……)” G选项“Check your timetable and pack what you need for school.(查看课程表,整理好上学需要带的东西)”符合语境。 根据下文“Some people rise very easily, but others take more time to feel awake... If you have an alarm clock, try to get up as soon as it goes off... You could also do some stretches as you listen to a song.(有些人起床很轻松,但有些人需要更长时间清醒……如果你有闹钟,尽量响了就起……你也可以边听歌边做些拉伸)”可知,本段围绕“用适合自己的方式起床、唤醒自己”展开。A选项“Wake yourself your way.(用自己的方式唤醒自己)”为祈使句,适合作小标题。故选A项。 【19题详解】 根据本段小标题“Do essential tasks in order(按顺序完成必要任务)”,以及前文“To build a routine, it can be helpful to do these in the same order each day... If you’re forgetful, have a list pinned up so you can check things off as you go.(要养成习惯,每天按相同顺序做这些事会很有帮助……如果你容易忘事,可以贴一张清单,做一件勾一件)”可知,此空需说明“按顺序做事、用清单核对”的最终效果。D选项“Soon it will become second nature.(很快这就会变成你的本能反应)”符合语境。故选D项。 【20题详解】 根据本段小标题“Eat a good breakfast(吃营养早餐)”,以及前文“After sleep, your body has been without food for a long time. The word “breakfast” reflects this — it’s a meal you use to “break” your “fast”...(睡眠后,身体长时间未进食。“早餐”这个词正体现了这一点——它是用来“打破”“禁食期”的一餐……)”和后文“Foods like bread or porridge provide energy.(面包、粥等食物能提供能量)”可知,此空需承接“打破禁食期”,说明吃早餐的作用。E选项“Eating something tops up your fuel tank.(吃点东西能给你的“油箱”加满油)”符合语境。 I had a friend who was a real “score keeper”. Every day, her mom Coco would nag (唠叨) her a lot, and this had lasted for years. In the morning, before Alice went to school, Coco would stand by the door and say, “Alice, don’t use your phone when the teacher is talking.” When Alice came back home after school, Coco would keep asking, “Did you make any new friends at school? Getting along well with your classmates is really important.” Sometimes, she would also say, “Tell me something interesting that happened at school today.” At first, Alice tried to listen patiently. But as time went by, she got more and more tired of Coco’s nagging. She often thought, “Mom talks too much. I wish I could go to a university in another city. That way, she won’t nag me all the time.” Two years later, Alice’s dream came true. She was admitted to a university far away from home. However, one month before she left, Coco started nagging again, this time about her college life.“Remember to wash your clothes regularly in college. Study hard but also take care of your health,” Coco would repeat every day. Alice felt even more annoyed. When the day came for her to leave home, she was very happy, thinking she would finally be free from her mom’s nagging. But things didn’t go as Alice expected at college. One roommate liked to stay up late watching movies, and the other often left her things everywhere. Alice didn’t know how to get along with them. Besides, she had no idea how to manage her spare time meaningfully. She didn’t have many friends there. Her heart was brimming with a feeling of being alone. One evening, Alice found herself missing the very words she used to hate. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Alice felt much better after talking to her mom on the phone. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文: One evening, Alice found herself missing the very words she used to hate. She picked up her phone to call Coco. As soon as Coco answered, she said softly, “Mom, I miss your nagging. My roommates are difficult to get along with, and I don’t know how to manage my time.” Coco listened patiently and gave gentle advice: “Try talking to your roommates nicely about your sleep schedule, and also, join a club to make friends.” She also reminded Alice to eat healthy and get enough sleep. Alice nodded repeatedly, tears welling up in her eyes. For the first time, she felt the warmth of her mom’s words. Alice felt much better after talking to her mom on the phone. She followed Coco’s suggestions. She had a calm chat with her roommates, and they agreed to respect each other’s habits to create a more harmonious atmosphere. She also joined a book club, where she met some like-minded classmates. Gradually, she no longer felt like a stranger in the new city. From then on, whenever she faced troubles, she’d call her mom, no longer feeling annoyed by the nagging. Instead, she knew it was the most precious gift her mom could give — a love that followed her, even from far away. 词汇激活 行为类 ①轻声说:say softly/whisper/speak gently ②想念:miss/long for ③面对:face/confront/come across 情绪类 ①热泪盈眶:tears welling up in her eyes/tears filling her eyes ②感觉像个局外人:feel like a stranger/feel out of place ③恼怒的:annoyed/irritated 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Alice nodded repeatedly, tears welling up in her eyes. A. Turned in. B. Took in. C. Helped out. D. Which of the following best describes the author’s experience? A. Adventurous. B. Embarrassing. C. Extraordinary. D. Challenging. C Australia has passed a law that aims to prevent people younger than 16 from using social media. D Plastics (塑料) are amazing materials which are widely used in our daily lives. A. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
