D. Instructables. B Whenever you want to give up your dream, think of Chris Nikic. On November 7, 2020, 21-year-old Chris Nikic made history as the first person with Down Syndrome to try and complete an Ironman. Organized by the World Triathlon Corporation, it requires athletes to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run a full 26.2-mile marathon — in under 17 hours! The event, which took place in Florida, began early in the morning with a two-lap swim in the Gulf of Mexico. Chris, who was tied to his coach for safety, completed the course well within the time limit. The 112-mile bike ride, which Chris rode alone, was full of uncertainties. Not used to drinking water while riding, he had to make multiple stops. To make matters worse, the young athlete was attacked by an army of red ants whose nest he accidentally stepped on during a break. He also had a bleeding knee after crashing while speeding downhill. Despite these setbacks, Chris managed to complete the lap before the 5:30 pm cut-off time. The competition’s final challenge — a two lap 26.2-mile run along the waterfront — started smoothly. However, Chris was tired out by the tenth mile. But with encouragement from his coach and cheering bystanders, the youngster somehow managed to cross the finish line in 16 hours, 46 minutes, and 9 seconds — almost 15 minutes under the 17-hour time limit. Chris is no stranger to overcoming challenges. Born with two holes in his heart, he underwent surgery at just five months old. He was too weak to walk independently until he was four. Due to his Down Syndrome, every expert his parents spoke to focused on the limitations rather than the possibilities. To Chris, this race was more than just a finish line and celebration of victory. It’s about being an example to other kids and families that face similar barriers. 4. What does the underlined part “an Ironman” in paragraph 1 refer to? A A person. B. An organization. C. A competition. D. An artwork. 5. Which of the following best describes Chris’s bike ride experience? A. Struggling. B. Romantic. C. Pleasant. D. Smooth. 6. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 5? A. Make more comparison. B. Add background information. C. Draw a conclusion. D. Introduce a new topic. 7. What can we learn from Chris’s story? A. Not everyone is perfect. B. Failure teaches success. C. Life is full of choices. D. Nothing is impossible. C Reading often serves as a bridge, connecting people through shared stories and ideas. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group. Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it. Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says. “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.” Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it. People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossers to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home. BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the “real” and not the virtual (虚拟). The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries. 8. Why are book groups mentioned in the first paragraph? A. To introduce BookCrossing. B. To show popularity of reading. C. To stress the meaning of reading. D. To encourage more reading clubs. 9. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. A public place. B. An adventure. C. The book. D. The identification number. 10. What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it? A. Meet other readers to discuss it. B. Pass it on to another reader. C. Keep it safe in his bookcase. D. Mail it back to its owner. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Online Reading: A Virtual Tour. B. Electronic Books: A new Trend. C. A Platform Ties People with Books. D. A Book Group Brings Tradition Back. D More than 56% of the world’s oceans have changed color to an extent that cannot be explained by natural variability, said a team of researchers from the UK and the US. tropical oceans close to the equator (赤道) in particular have become greener in the past two decades, reflecting changes in their ecosystems, according to the study published in the journal Nature. The color of the ocean comes from the materials found in its upper layers. For instance, a deep blue sea in the Pacific Ocean might have very little life in it, but a green color means there are ecosystems, based on phytoplankton (浮游植物), plant-like microbes which contain chlorophyll (叶绿素) and form the basis of a food web which supports larger organisms such as krill, fish, seabirds and marine mammals. It’s not clear exactly how these ecosystems are changing, said Stephanie, senior research scientist in MIT. “Ocean ecosystems are finely balanced and any change in the phytoplankton might decimate the food chain, causing an imbalance in the natural organization of ecosystems. Such imbalance will only get worse over time if our oceans keep heating. It will also affect the ocean’s ability to act as a store of carbon, as different plankton absorb different amounts of carbon,” she added. While the researchers are still working to unpick exactly what the changes mean, what is clear, they believe, is that the changes are being driven by human-caused climate change. The researchers monitored changes in ocean color from space by tracking how much green or blue light is reflected from the surface of the sea. They analyzed color variation data from 2002 to 2022 and then used climate change models to simulate (激发) what would happen to the oceans both with additional planet-heating pollution and without. Not surprisingly, the color changes matched almost exactly what scientists predicted would happen if greenhouse gases were added to the atmosphere-that around 50% of our oceans would change color. 12. How does the author develop Paragraph 2? A. By making comparison. B. By presenting research findings. C. By giving examples. D. By displaying more opinions. 13. What does the underlined word mean in the third paragraph? A. Damage. B. Construct. C. Acquire. D. Display. 14. What is the root of the ocean color change? A. The materials found in the ocean surface. B. The imbalance in ocean ecosystem. C. The changeable climate. D. The destructive human activities 15. What might be the best title of the text? A. Climate changes bring greener oceans B. Ecosystem works differently in the ocean C Scientists are further exploring the sea D. secrets about the ocean are being unlocked Family and friends are two of the most important parts of our lives. A. A person. B. An organization. 10 What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it? A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website Book Crossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.(想想那些属于图书小组的人。 故选A。 根据第二段“Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.(然后,这个人把它放在一个公共场所,希望这本书能有一次冒险,和每一个新发现它的读者一起游历各地)”可知,这本书会有一次冒险,和每一个新发现它的读者一起游历各地,it指代前边的the book。 根据第二段“Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.(然后,这个人把它放在一个公共场所,希望这本书能有一次冒险,和每一个新发现它的读者一起游历各地)”以及第四段“Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.(会员们把书放在公园长椅、公共汽车、火车站和咖啡店。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.(现在,BookCrossing网站颠覆了图书小组的传统理念。)”和最后一段“BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the “real” and not the virtual (虚拟). The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries.( BookCrossing是当下一种潮流的体现,这股潮流正流行于那些渴望回归现实、远离虚拟世界的人群中。 C。 D More than 56% of the world’s oceans have changed color to an extent that cannot be explained by natural variability, said a team of researchers from the UK and the US. tropical oceans close to the equator (赤道) in particular have become greener in the past two decades, reflecting changes in their ecosystems, according to the study published in the journal Nature. Ecosystem works differently in the ocean C. Scientists are further exploring the sea D. secrets about the ocean are being unlocked 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段中的“The color of the ocean comes from the materials found in its upper layers. For instance, a deep blue sea in the Pacific Ocean might have very little life in it, but a green color means there are ecosystems, based on phytoplankton (浮游植物), plant-like microbes which contain chlorophyll (叶绿素) and form the basis of a food web which supports larger organisms such as krill, fish, seabirds and marine mammals.(海洋的颜色来自其上层发现的物质。 根据第三段中的“Ocean ecosystems are finely balanced and any change in the phytoplankton might decimate the food chain, causing an imbalance in the natural organization of ecosystems. Such imbalance will only get worse over time if our oceans keep heating. It will also affect the ocean’s ability to act as a store of carbon, as different plankton absorb different amounts of carbon.(海洋生态系统处于微妙的平衡状态,浮游植物的任何变化都可能decimate食物链,导致生态系统的自然结构失衡。 故选A项。 根据第四段中的“While the researchers are still working to unpick exactly what the changes mean, what is clear, they believe, is that the changes are being driven by human-caused climate change. 根据第一段中的“More than 56% of the world’s oceans have changed color to an extent that cannot be explained by natural variability, said a team of researchers from the UK and the US. Dear friends, Today, I’d like to share my views on whether online friends are good or bad. Making friends online has obvious advantages. It is convenient for us to make friends around the world which helps broaden our horizons. Besides, it’s easier for shy people to open up online. However, it also has drawbacks. First, online information is not always true, and we may be cheated by fake identities. Secondly, spending too much time chatting online will take up our study and offline communication time, affecting our real-life relationships. In my opinion, we should be cautious about sharing personal information, and balance online and offline interactions. Only in this way can we enjoy the benefits of online friends while avoiding risks. Secondly, spending too much time chatting online will take up our study and offline communication time, affecting our real-life relationships. Secondly, spending too much time chatting online will take up our study and offline communication time, which can affect our real-life relationships. 1】It is convenient for us to make friends around the world, which helps broaden our horizons.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型 2】Only in this way can we enjoy the benefits of online friends while avoiding risks.(运用了“only+状语”位于句首的部分倒装结构) 第二节(满分25分) 47. Once upon a time, there was a big apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the top of the tree, ate the apples, and took a nap under the shadow He loved the tree and the tree also enjoyed playing with him. As time went by, the little boy grew up and he no longer played around the tree. One day, the boy came back to the tree, appearing sad. “Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy gently. “I am no longer a kid; I won’t play around trees anymore,” the boy replied, “I want toys. I need money to buy them.” “Sorry, but I don't have money. However, you can pick all my apples and sell them. Then, you will have money.” The boy was so excited that he picked all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy didn't come back after that. One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. "Come and play with me!” the tree requested. “I am sad and becoming old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” “Use my trunk to build the boat. You can sail and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and did not show up for a long time. Paragraph1: Many years later, the boy finally returned. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The apple tree is our mother. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Many years later, the boy finally returned. Feeling tired, he went to see the apple tree. At the sight of him, the tree said regretfully: “I’m sorry, boy, but now I no longer have anything for you, no apples, no trunk.” “It doesn’t matter. I have no intention of getting anything from you this time. As you know, I’m getting old and nothing is better than a comfortable place to rest.” said the boy. Hearing this, the tree smiled with relief, adding: “My dying trunk is the right one for you. Please come here and have a seat.” The boy did as told and the tree burst into tears, due to the fact that she could still devote herself to her boy. Paragraph 2: The apple tree is our mother. When we are young, she tries her best to take care of us and play with us. When we grow up, we leave her for some reason and only come back when necessary or in trouble. But she is always there, waiting for us and ready to offer what she owns without complaint. Never does she ask for rewards, instead, it is our happiness that she desires for. So, try to put ourselves in her shoes and learn to show concern for her. 如:have no intention of,burst into tears, ask for rewards, desires for等高级词汇;Feeling tired, he went to see the apple tree.运用了非谓语动词;The boy did as told and the tree burst into tears, due to the fact that she could still devote herself to her boy.运用了定语从句;When we are young, she tries her best to take care of us and play with us.运用了时间状语从句。 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
