A
Microplastics — tiny plastic pieces smaller than 5 mm wide — are in almost every part of our daily life. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. New studies say these small bits may be bad for human health, especially for our hearts and lungs. It’s not easy to avoid them completely, but experts have given teens simple ways to touch them less.
What Are Microplastics?
They come from big plastic things breaking down, like packaging, man-made cloth and kitchen cutting boards. “These bits are everywhere around us,” said Abby Langer, a dietitian. Because they are so small, people take them in without noticing when eating or breathing. This makes scientists more and more worried.
Foods With More Microplastics
A new study shows some foods have more plastic-related chemicals. Fish pick up microplastics from dirty water. Processed foods (like canned or packaged snacks) also take in more bits when being made — even foods with “organic” labels aren’t totally free of this.
Practical Ways to Reduce Contact
·Use less plastic: Choose glass bowls, steel tools or wooden cutting boards instead of plastic ones.
·Don’t heat plastic containers: Hot temperatures make plastic let out more microplastics and other harmful things faster.
·Store food better: Use glass containers instead of plastic wrap or one-time plastic bags for food.
·Put in water filtering (过滤) tools: A good filtering tool can get rid of most microplastics in drinking water.
·Eat fresher food: Eating fewer processed foods helps lower the risk of taking in microplastics. Fresh foods don’t touch plastic as much when being made.
21.What can we learn about microplastics from the text?
A.They are larger than 5 mm in width.
B.People may take them in unconsciously.
C.New studies prove their harm to our hearts.
D.Organic foods contain/no microplastics at all.
22.What is a practical way to reduce microplastic intake?
A.Using wooden cutting boards in kitchen.
B.Heating plastic bowls at high temperature.
C.Avoiding using filters for drinking water.
D.Eating more canned or packaged snacks.
23.Where is this passage most probably taken from?
A.A research paper B.A news report C.A health magazine D.A public announcement
B
I often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I’ve fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible (可听的) book for an assignment due tomorrow.
When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue what’s going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.
This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they’re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.
I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class. But here, I am in my element. Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high.
Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts.
Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.
24.Why does the author have to do his homework late at night?
A.He is assigned extra homework. B.He fails to manage his spare time.
C.He needs time to do it well enough. D.He dislikes tasks related to languages.
25.What does the underlined part “in my element” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Burning the midnight oil. B.Biting off more than I can chew.
C.Feeling like a fish in water. D.Having butterflies in my stomach.
26.What does the author think of lecture-based classes?
A.Satisfying. B.Inspiring. C.Rewarding. D.Demanding.
27.What does the author advise schools to do for students?
A.Offer classes with alternatives. B.Ask educational experts to give lectures.
C.Advocate out-of-class activities. D.Get teachers trained in special education.

ChatGPT and other generative AI tools have sparked concerns about replacing various workers. Writers, editors, and customer service representatives are among the people that could be affected. But some people are suggesting that AI might not reduce jobs as many people fear. Instead, the technology might turn out to be more like the technological developments of the past, such as the steam engine, electricity or the Internet.
Nick Bunker, an economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab, believes AI will impact many jobs to some extent but also create new ones. AI gives machines the ability to perform tasks once thought to require human intelligence. The basic technology has existed in early versions for many years. Some reports say it began with a problem-solving computer program called Logic Theorist. The program was developed in the 1950s at what is now Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. More recent examples include voice assistants like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, or IBM’s chess-playing computer, Deep Blue, which defeated then-world champion Garry Kasparov in 1997.
Sam Altman is chief of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. He believes a lot of current jobs are at risk because of AI, and this is going to change the way that a lot of current jobs function. Suumit Shah, whose company, Dukaan, helps customers set up e-commerce sites to sell goods online, said the average amount of time it took to answer a customer’s question shrank from 1 minute 44 seconds to “instant”. The chatbot also cut the time needed to resolve problems from more than two hours to just over three minutes.
Of course, the researchers also found that those who used the chatbot were 14 percent more productive than workers who did not use the chatbot. The workers who used AI took more calls and completed them faster. Alorica is a company in Irvine, Califomnia, which runs customer-service centers around the world. The company has introduced an AI translation tool that lets its representatives communicate with customers who speak any of 200 different languages and 75 dialects.
28.Why are Siri, Alexa and Deep Blue mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A.To offer a proof. B.To make a prediction.
C.To present a fact. D.To explain a rule.
29.What can we learn about AI according to Sam Altman?
A.It helps the progress of technology. B.It causes economic losses.
C.It brings a threat to some kinds of jobs. D.It performs tasks reserved for humans.
30.What does the last paragraph tell us?
A.AI has a lasting impact on humans. B.AI helps improve people’s efficiency.
C.AI may reduce jobs as many people fear. D.AI frees humans from tough work.
31.What is the central argument of the passage regarding the impact of AI on employment?
A.AI will lead to widespread unemployment across all industries.
B.AI will only affect certain sectors like customer service and writing.
C.AI will transform existing jobs and create new opportunities, similar to past technological revolutions.
D.AI is less effective than traditional methods and will not have a significant impact.
D
I often catch myself asking my questions to AI chatbots with a “please” and a “thank you.” Apparently, I am not alone. A 2024 survey found that approximately 67% of U.S. AI users are also polite and show gratitude toward AI search engines. Some even joked about the cost: if every polite word consumes electricity, the bill must be high. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman replied: “Tens of millions of dollars well spent — you never know.”
In reality, of course, AI chatbots do not appreciate politeness; they lack consciousness, feelings or social needs. From a purely utilitarian (功利主义的) standpoint, all those pleases and thank yous are just flushing money down the toilet.
Still, there may be value that isn’t immediately measurable in showing gratitude toward AI. Psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough carried out an experiment in which they divided participants into three groups, asking the first to list things they are grateful for, while others listed daily troubles or simply kept journals. After 10 weeks, they found that the first group reported 25% higher happiness levels, stronger inner strength and even better physical health.
What’s true of gratitude is also true of kindness and generosity more generally. Experiments at UC Riverside found that performing “five small acts of kindness per week” produced steady increases in happiness. This idea isn’t new. The medieval thinker Maimonides wrote that “it is better for a person to give one coin to a thousand poor people than to give a thousand coins to one poor person.” He believed that regular acts of goodness, like giving charity and expressing gratitude, make us happier in the long run by turning virtue into a habit.
So perhaps all of our pleases and thank yous to AI have value, even if they cost OpenAI millions of dollars annually. Showing appreciation, even toward a machine, reinforces positive habits of courtesy (礼貌), patience and empathy. In our increasingly digital and automated world, preserving these human qualities may be more valuable than the cost of a little extra electricity. Ultimately, the beneficiary of our politeness isn’t the AI at all, but ourselves.
32.How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1?
A.By quoting an expert. B.By telling a story.
C.By presenting a phenomenon. D.By defining a concept.
33.What value of gratitude does the experiment in paragraph 3 show?
A.It strengthens our bodies and minds. B.It reduces daily stress levels.
C.It improves memory and creativity. D.It deepens social relationships.
34.Which of the following would Maimonides most likely approve of?
A.Giving gifts to friends on birthdays. B.Making a large donation to a charity.
C.Expressing gratitude on Thanksgiving Day. D.Volunteering weekly at a community kitchen.
35.What message does the author mainly convey in the text?
A.Courtesy to AI saves electricity bills. B.AI improves the quality of human life.
C.Politeness benefits humans rather than AI. D.AI learns empathy from human behavior.

When I look back on my childhood, the first image that springs to my mind is the daisy (雏菊) kept in my dictionary, which always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother.
When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had practised my lines (台词) so hard with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白) part to the play, and asked me to switch roles.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow daisies popping through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a little bit of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the daisies. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like daisies,” I protested (抗议). “All flowers are beautiful——even daisies.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower has its own beauty, doesn’t it?” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, feeling pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added, “Not everyone can be a princess. Hence, there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had sensed my pain, I started to cry when I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

Should High School Students Use AI as a Learning Aid?
AI tools bring both pros and cons. They offer quick answers and personalized help, boosting learning efficiency. However, over-reliance may weaken students’ independent thinking and problem-solving abilities.
I think AI can be a good aid if used properly. It should serve as a helper rather than a replacement, as long as it doesn’t substitute for our own efforts.
We’d better use it to check answers or clarify doubts, and always think independently first. Teachers’ guidance is also necessary to avoid abuse.
67.
Paragraph 1:
“You will be a beautiful narrator,” she comforted. Upon hearing her comforting words, I held back my bitter tears, lost in deep thought. Hardly had she noticed the sadness on my face soften a little when she caressed my hair, adding, “No one is born to be a princess. Why not take advantage of narrator’s part?” With mother’s encouragement, I began to accept that the narrator’s part was of vital significance. In the following weeks, every lunchtime with my mother witnessed my mighty effort to practice my part of lines. So fast did time pass that the performance day arrived.
Paragraph 2:
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous. Sweat oozing from my palms, it was at that very moment that I found a daisy in my pocket. In a flash, I realized my mother had passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me. Consumed with courage and confidence, I concentrated on my part and the performance turned out to be a great success, the audience standing up and bursting into thunderous applause. After the play, I put the daisy into my dictionary, which was a reminder of our precious lunchtimes, bathed in the soft midday light.

A
Microplastics — tiny plastic pieces smaller than 5 mm wide — are in almost every part of our daily life.
【答案】21.B 22.A 23.C
根据What Are Microplastics?部分中“Because they are so small, people take them in without noticing when eating or breathing.(因为它们太小了,人们在吃东西或呼吸时会在不知不觉中吸入它们。)”
根据Practical Ways to Reduce Contact部分中“Use less plastic: Choose glass bowls, steel tools or wooden cutting boards instead of plastic ones.(少用塑料:选择玻璃碗、钢制工具或木制砧板,而不是塑料的。)” 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Microplastics — tiny plastic pieces smaller than 5 mm wide — are in almost every part of our daily life. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. New studies say these small bits may be bad for human health, especially for our hearts and lungs.(微塑料——宽度小于5毫米的微小塑料碎片——几乎存在于我们日常生活的每一个角落。它们存在于我们呼吸的空气中、我们喝的水中和我们吃的食物中。新的研究表明,这些小碎片可能对人类健康有害,尤其是对我们的心脏和肺有害。)”可知,文章主要讲述了微塑料的来源、对健康的影响及减少接触的实用方法,这些内容与健康相关,因此这篇文章最有可能来自一本健康杂志。故选C。
【答案】24.C 25.C 26.D 27.A
根据文章第二段“The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.(作业耗费了我太多精力,而我追求完美的性格又让我无法在学校完成它们,所以我总是把它们留到以后,很可能就是深夜。)”
根据划线词句上文“I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class.(我曾被告知,美国历史高级课程将是我最难的一门课。)” 而划线单词下文“Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged.(尽管我已经落后了三项作业,但我仍然积极参与其中。)”
根据文章第五段“I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work.(我曾遇到过一些以讲座为基础的老师,他们期望学生记笔记并听讲。但作为一名阅读障碍学生,这种方式行不通。)”可知,作者作为阅读障碍的学生,觉得基于讲座的课程对他来说并不适用,因为它可能要求很高的听力和笔记能力,这是作者难以应对的。因此,可以推断出作者认为基于讲座的课程是要求高的。故选D。
27.推理判断题。根据文章第五段“Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible.(教师需要提供替代性的学习结构,使学习更加容易。)”以及最后一段“Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.(现在,许多学校正在转向满足所有孩子需求的教学方法。然而,仍然可以开展宣传工作来支持阅读障碍学生。如果学校系统愿意从一开始就创造一个容易接受的学习环境并提供教育支持,那么学生就不会被困在那些无法充分发挥他们潜力的学术轨道上。)”可知,作者认为学校应该提供满足所有孩子需求的方法,可以提供替代性课程,从而满足学生的需求。故选A。

【答案】28.A 29.C 30.B 31.C
在第二段中“More recent examples include voice assistants like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, or IBM’s chess-playing computer, Deep Blue, which defeated then-world champion Garry Kasparov in 1997.(最近的例子包括苹果的Siri、亚马逊的Alexa等语音助手,以及IBM的国际象棋计算机“深蓝”(Deep Blue),后者在1997年击败了当时的世界冠军Garry Kasparov。)” 故选A。
根据第三段中Sam Altman的话“He believes a lot of current jobs are at risk because of AI, and this is going to change the way that a lot of current jobs function.(他认为很多当前的工作都因为AI而面临风险,这将改变很多当前工作的运作方式。)”
根据最后一段“Of course, the researchers also found that those who used the chatbot were 14 percent more productive than workers who did not use the chatbot. The workers who used AI took more calls and completed them faster.(当然,研究人员还发现,使用聊天机器人的员工的工作效率比不使用聊天机器人的员工高14%。使用人工智能的员工接听的电话更多,完成的速度也更快。)”可知,最后一段主要讲述了使用AI的聊天机器人如何提高工作效率,如回答客户问题的时间缩短、解决问题的时间减少,以及使用AI的工人生产力提高等。B选项“AI helps improve people’s efficiency.(人工智能有助于提高人们的效率。)”符合题意。故选B。
31.推理判断题。通读全文尤其是第一段“But some people are suggesting that AI might not reduce jobs as many people fear. Instead, the technology might turn out to be more like the technological developments of the past, such as the steam engine, electricity or the Internet.(但一些人认为,人工智能可能不会像许多人担心的那样减少工作。 C选项“AI will transform existing jobs and create new opportunities, similar to past technological revolutions.( 人工智能将改变现有的工作岗位,创造新的机会,类似于过去的技术革命。)”
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.D 35.C
根据第一段“I often catch myself asking my questions to AI chatbots with a “please” and a “thank you.” Apparently, I am not alone. A 2024 survey found that approximately 67% of U.S. AI users are also polite and show gratitude toward AI search engines. Some even joked about the cost: if every polite word consumes electricity, the bill must be high. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman replied: “Tens of millions of dollars well spent — you never know.”(我常常会发现自己在向人工智能聊天机器人提问时会加上“请”和“谢谢”这样的词语。
根据第三段“Still, there may be value that isn’t immediately measurable in showing gratitude toward AI. Psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough carried out an experiment in which they divided participants into three groups, asking the first to list things they are grateful for, while others listed daily troubles or simply kept journals. After 10 weeks, they found that the first group reported 25% higher happiness levels, stronger inner strength and even better physical health.( 不过,对人工智能表示感激所体现的价值可能并非是能够立即衡量出来的。心理学家罗伯特·埃蒙斯和迈克尔·麦卡洛开展了一项实验,他们将参与者分为三组,要求第一组列出他们所感激的事情,而其他两组则分别记录日常烦恼或只是进行日常日记记录。10周后,他们发现第一组的幸福感水平提高了25%,内心力量更强,身体状况也更好)”可知,第三段中的实验表明了感恩能增强我们的身体和心智。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“He believed that regular acts of goodness, like giving charity and expressing gratitude, make us happier in the long run by turning virtue into a habit.(他认为,定期的善举,比如进行慈善捐赠和表达感激之情,会通过将美德转化为习惯而使我们长期感到更幸福)”可知,迈蒙尼德认同每周到社区厨房做志愿服务的做法。故选D。
根据最后一段“Showing appreciation, even toward a machine, reinforces positive habits of courtesy (礼貌), patience and empathy. In our increasingly digital and automated world, preserving these human qualities may be more valuable than the cost of a few extra electricity. Ultimately, the beneficiary of our politeness isn’t the AI at all, but ourselves.(向机器表达感激之情,哪怕只是向一台机器表示感谢,也能强化我们养成的礼貌、耐心和同理心等良好习惯。在我们这个日益数字化和自动化的世界里,保持这些人性特质可能比多消耗一些电能更有价值。最终,我们礼貌行为的受益者并非那台人工智能,而是我们自己)”可知,作者在这篇文章中主要传达了礼貌对人类有益,而非对人工智能有益。故选C。

Ease the Sunday Scaries
Most of us look forward to the weekend as a time to relax, connect with friends and family, and deal with tasks from a to-do list that gets ignored during the workweek. But as the weekend comes to an end, many are missing out on Sunday fun and instead feeling a strong sense of anxiety and even fear about the upcoming week. 36 Some people describe it as a heavy feeling they can sense in their body, while others feel so upset that they can barely sit still.
Even though the Sunday scaries are common, they can be managed. Here’s how experts say you can reduce your end-of-weekend anxiety.
Structure your Sunday. 37 You might still feel that sense of fear, but that feeling is harder to keep when you’re doing something that makes you happy.
Identify your anxiety sources. Try to figure out what’s really causing you to get anxious the week. 38 Even if there isn’t one single reason for your Sunday anxiety, breaking down the stress into small parts can help make it easier to handle.
39 Getting rid of Sunday scaries isn’t just about minimizing the blues of the week ahead. Have something to look forward to and this will shift your thoughts to fun things and help improve your mood.
End your Sunday with the right energy. Sunday night is a proper time to relax. Maybe you want to write in a journal, put on a face mask, or read a few pages of a good book. Do your best to honor this time and make Sunday night all about you. 40
A.Is it a deadline, meeting or presentation?
B.Create some excitement for the upcoming week.
C.Experts have named this worry Sunday scaries.
D.Sunday scaries come from tiredness after a really busy weekend.
E.Then you feel energetic and confident that you’ll be ready for the next day.
F.Instead of sitting on the couch and watching the clock, go to do something that you enjoy.
G.Anxiety is a natural response that happens in preparation for anything that causes pain or discomfort.

Should High School Students Use AI as a Learning Aid?
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paragraph 2:
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
