How can you remember a song from your childhood to this day? Why do your teachers use songs to teach you English? It seems there is a scientific reason for this.
Researchers are now studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They find that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language.
“Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are used in a catchy and meaningful way,” said Dr. Karen Ludke. The findings may help those who have difficulties learning foreign languages. On his blog, Dr. Ludke writes, “A listen and repeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the value of using music and singing. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington, D.C. depends heavily on songs in teaching Chinese. She says, “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids usually we use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics (歌词). So it’s easy for them to start because they know the music. Not only does it work, but it is fun for the kids.”
“Sometimes, I think if I were taught English that way, maybe I would speak much better English than now,” Hua Zhuying adds.
Our brain likes music, especially for remembering. So, if you’re still struggling in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

Where can we find more water resources? A recent study of the lunar soil samples (样本) collected by China’s Chang’e 5 mission has helped answer these questions.
A research team, led by scientists from the National Space Science Centre and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG), chose 17 lunar soil grains (颗粒). Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet Earth. What many people don’t know is that junk (垃圾) has become a problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22,000 pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes (望远镜). There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can’t see.
Objects, like bits of old space rockets or satellites, move around the planet at very high speeds, so fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous to astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage the vehicle (轨道).
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a US satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000 pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth’s atmosphere (大气层) after that time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.
Many scientists are also suggesting different ways to clean up space junk. In England scientists are testing a metal net. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into the earth’s atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.
“The problem is becoming more challenging because we’re sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile phones and computers,” says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian space researcher.
“The time to act is now. The longer we leave the problem, the bigger it will become,” he says.
根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。
13 Why is space junk considered a problem?
A. It burns up after it reenters the atmosphere.
B. It often stops the view of telescopes on Earth.
C. It may crash into other space tools causing damage (损坏;伤害) or death.
14 Countries want future space tools to be able to fall back into the earth’s atmosphere so that ______.
A. the tools can be reused later
B. the tools don’t become space junk
C. the earth’s atmosphere can stay clean
15. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. A safe space tool can stay in space forever.
B. More efforts require to be made to keep outer space safe and clean.
C. Scientists have no trouble solving the problem of space junk.
16. In which section of the newspaper would you probably read this article?
A. Environment. B. Local News. C. Education.

Joey was happy because he had many special friends, four squirrels, two rabbits and many colorful birds. At the meal time, these wild animals came near to the family and they would feed these special friends.
In the large yard stood thirteen trees of different sizes. One day, while Joey was playing with his sister under the trees, he noticed that a tree trunk (树干) had a sad look. He ran into the house to tell his mom about it. She told Joey to find the reason why he was sad.
So Joey went into the yard, ran to the sad tree and asked, “Why are you unhappy?”
“Nobody needs me or loves me.” said the tree. He explained “I am the smallest tree around. The birds don’t fly to me. The rabbits don’t eat grass under me. The squirrels don’t climb to my top.”
After knowing the reason, the family had a meeting. Joey suggested making a seat under the sad tree. Joey’s father said he could help make a seat around the tree. The family would sit under the tree and the tree wouldn't feel sad anymore.
When Joey told his special friends the tree was sad, they decided to do what they could to help make the sad tree happy again.
Early the next morning, when Joey woke up, he noticed birds singing happily in the little tree and saw squirrels running up and down in it. Rabbits were eating the fresh grass around the tree. The little tree was happy again.
Joey ran inside to tell the good news to his family. Joey’s mother and father went into the yard and saw the happy tree.
“Let’s start to build the seats around the trees. I will need help to build them. Get the nails (钉子) for me, Joey,” said the father.

13. Why is space junk considered a problem?
A. It burns up after it reenters the atmosphere.
B. It often stops the view of telescopes on Earth.

14. Countries want future space tools to be able to fall back into the earth’s atmosphere so that ______.
A. the tools can be reused later
B. the tools don’t become space junk
C. the earth’s atmosphere can stay clean
15. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. A safe space tool can stay in space forever.
B. More efforts require to be made to keep outer space safe and clean.
C. Scientists have no trouble solving the problem of space junk.
16. In which section of the newspaper would you probably read this article?

“Nobody needs me or loves me.” said the tree. He explained “I am the smallest tree around. The birds don’t fly to me. The rabbits don’t eat grass under me. The squirrels don’t climb to my top.”
After knowing the reason, the family had a meeting. Joey suggested making a seat under the sad tree. Joey’s father said he could help make a seat around the tree. The family would sit under the tree and the tree wouldn't feel sad anymore.
