例如,“Never had he felt so desperate as in that moment.(他从来没有像那一刻那样绝望。)”
例如,“Not only did he overcome the difficulties, but he also helped others.(他不仅克服了困难,还帮3助了别人。)”

When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs in my house. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement filled the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” she grinned. “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Dear, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called saying that she had an acute stomachache and was not in any shape to perform.

I was completely knocked out by the news. My heart sank, and I didn’t know what to do. “How can I perform alone?” I asked myself, tears welling up. But my mom said gently, “You’ve practiced so hard; don’t let fear stop you.” That night, I stayed up thinking about whether I should go on stage by myself. Finally, I decided that I would try, because it was for the food bank.
Finally came the big moment. As I walked onto the stage, my hands were shaking, and I could hardly breathe. I closed my eyes and remembered the days when Emma and I sang together, which gave me courage. When I opened my mouth, my voice came out clear and steady. The audience clapped warmly, and I felt proud of myself for the first time. What mattered most was not perfection, but that I dared to try.

We were packing for a trip to the Galapagos Islands. “Wait! You almost forgot your snorkeling (浮潜) equipment,” my husband Peter said as he handed it to me. “Yeah, how could I forget something so important?” I replied, without enthusiasm. “Don’t worry, I’ll be right by your side the entire time,” he said.
I liked swimming in the pool but I feared swimming in the ocean. I felt helpless and out of control in open waters. Since I recently had knee surgery, trusting my knee was going to be a challenge. Peter loved snorkeling. On past vacations, he had spent hours swimming in the water, while I had tried for a few minutes and then returned to the beach.
Snorkeling in the Galapagos was supposed to be amazing, with various sea creatures to observe close thanks to the lack of dangerous sharks. I didn’t want to disappoint him, but I also didn’t want to have a vacation colored by anxiety.
Hesitantly, I placed the snorkeling equipment in my suitcase. Hours later, we reached the island and the adventure began. We walked and observed rare species. It was incredible.
On the second day, we went on a hike, and then there was a snorkeling option afterward. So, I put on my snorkeling equipment, and we chose to begin from the shore, rather than the boat, to help ease me into the depths.
We started walking into the water, together with a group of people we had gotten to know. The sand was shifting under our feet as the waves rolled in. I could feel my knee being pulled this way and that, and I started panicking. I looked at Peter, shaking my head.
“I don’t think I can do this! It’s hurting my knee. I don’t even know if I can swim with it very well. You go; I’ll hang out on the beach,” I said, nearly in tears.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 2:
Then came all the beauty.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just when I turned to leave, Peter reached for my hand, saying, “You’ll make it!” “Based on my experience, you’ll succeed. Besides, we’ll watch you,” he added. Motivated, I then continued walking until we could float and begin swimming. He stayed before me and constantly checked on me. All the others stayed close to me, which gave me more confidence and a sense of security. At first, all we could see was the murky water. I kept swimming. The water got colder, and the whole process of putting my face in the water while breathing was unnatural. Though nervous, I persevered, trying to fit in.
Then came all the beauty. There were schools of fish, which had beautiful colors and shapes. And there were rocks covered with red starfish. I felt amazed and joyful. While swimming, we saw more amazing creatures, such as sea lions twirling and turtles gracefully gliding beneath us. We even saw various seafloor plants. The entire snorkeling was breathtaking. Had I remained on the beach, I would have missed this wonder. Now I don’t fear the sea. And I know, when I’m doing something new, I just need to try.

When the shrill (尖锐的) ring of the phone echoed (回响) through the living room, Jane was still sleeping. She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was already nine o’clock! Though still sleepy, Jane knew she had to get up because her mother had been working in her office day and night for several days, and she couldn’t expect her younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the phone. She quickly put on a coat and dashed into the living room. As she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, “Good morning, my dear!”
It was the voice of her father, a seaman who seldom returned home due to his duties, earning money to support the family. On hearing her father’s voice, Jane’s sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere (氛围). At school, they were straight-A students and took part in various after-school activities, earning the pride of their parents.
“Good morning, Dad. Why are you calling so early on a weekend?” Jane asked, pretending to be slightly annoyed. “Tom and I have been very nice recently.” “My dear, today is your mother’s birthday. I have ordered a cake online and it will arrive at our doorstep in the late morning. Do remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother.”
Upon hearing her father’s words, Jane felt a twinge of embarrassment (尴尬). How could she have forgotten such an important day!
While chatting with her father, Jane’s eyes wandered around the room, and she saw a lot of dirty clothes scattered (散落) on the sofa. The floor hadn’t been cleaned for a few days, since her mother had been too busy with work to deal with such housework.
Looking at the clock again, Jane realized she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her mother.
“Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!” Jane said and hung up the telephone.
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him.

“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him. After listening to Jane, Tom readily accepted her idea. The big cleaning plan began. Jane collected the clothes from the sofa and began to do the laundry. Meanwhile, Tom was busy cleaning the floor back and forth with all his strength, really aware of what tiring work his Mum had at home! One hour later, the cleaning work was finally finished. They even prepared a simple breakfast for Mum. With everything ready for the big moment, they knocked at their mother’s bedroom door excitedly.
“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door. Confused and surprised, Mum stood frozen. When Mum realized what had happened, a warm current rose in her heart. Staring at the clean floor and the washed clothes, she was moved to tears and hugged them tightly. “It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!” Mum said proudly. Around 11 a.m., another surprise — the cake that Dad had ordered — arrived as well. Mum took out her smartphone, took a picture of the three of them eating the cake happily, and sent it to Dad. What an unforgettable birthday for her!

Jack Thomas, a 65-year-old retired man, stood by the living room window, staring at the outside on a beautiful sunny day. He glanced around his yard and realized it had been a long time since he last cleaned it. Hoping to ease his boredom, he started cleaning but quickly got tired and sat down on the stairs. “This will take a while,” he thought sadly as he looked around.
A few minutes later, Jack’s attention was drawn to the dustbin in their area, and he noticed that the trash bags were left outside instead of inside the bin. Jack stopped right in front of the bin and began clearing the trash, putting the bags inside the bin. When he was done, he noticed that nearly every house in the area had left its trash bags out in the open. Jack knew it would be difficult to clean up the trash in front of all the houses in the burning heat, but he couldn’t just see his neighborhood like that. He took a trolley (手推车) from his backyard and decided to move from one house to the next, clearing up the litter dropped in front.
At first, he stopped outside the house across from his and put its garbage bags into his trolley. But he hadn’t even left when a middle-aged man came out with a garbage bag and simply dropped it on the road. To make matters worse, he didn’t even secure the bag properly, so the wind blew part of the trash onto the street. At that point, Jack lost his cool and said, “Pardon me, sir, but that is not the proper method of getting rid of garbage! You littered the street again after I just attempted to clean it, sir!”
The man said that it was none of his business. Before Jack could say anything more, the man returned to his house and closed the door. Jack sighed and shook his head. He cleaned up the trash across the road, put it back into the trash bag, loaded it into his trolley, and moved on.

Reagan was a painter who saw the world differently. When others painted grand sunsets, she painted the small raindrops on a spiderweb. When others painted beautiful flowers, she painted the interesting patterns of moss (苔藓) on a stone. She had a real talent for discovering the beauty of things that people usually ignored.
However, this talent did not bring her fame. Her paintings were always placed in the quietest corners of galleries, and most visitors walked past them without a second look. Her latest work was about a special kind of mold (霉菌) she found growing on an old wooden chair in a park. She spent weeks studying its delicate patterns and colors. But at the exhibition, her painting was hung in the farthest room of the gallery. Once again, she stood alone, watching people come and go without stopping. A deep sadness filled her heart. Was she wrong to find beauty in these things?
Just as she was losing hope, a woman she had never seen before stopped in front of her painting. The woman looked closely at the mold painting for a long time, her expression changing from curiosity to excitement. She introduced herself as Deirdre, a biologist, and thought the painting was incredible. “The mold in your painting looks exactly like a rare type I’ve been searching for. It might hold a key to solving one of the environmental problems — plastic pollution,” Deirdre said. Reagan could hardly believe her ears. For the first time, someone not only saw the beauty in her work but also saw its possible importance to the world.
Excited, Reagan took Deirdre to see the real mold. Deirdre was even more excited and took a sample.
But the next day, Deirdre called with bad news. Her team leader Dr. Miles did not believe the discovery. Dr. Miles considered the painting a single image with no detailed record of the mold’s growth and changes over time, not a scientific discovery. Deirdre explained sadly and then hung up. The new hope that had brightened Reagan’s world was suddenly gone. Her beautiful discovery was dismissed as meaningless once again.

Staring at her painting, Reagan was determined to do more. She would not let this doubt defeat her. Immediately, she contacted Deirdre and suggested using her artistic skills to record the mold’s daily changes in great detail. Together, they visited the old chair in the park every day. In the soft morning light, Reagan drew the mold’s growth with scientific accuracy, while Deirdre took notes and did lab experiments. Their teamwork started to generate precious evidence slowly. As their evidence mounted, Reagan decided to present art and data side by side in the next exhibition.
Two months later, Reagan stood in the gallery watching people admire her painting. Next to it were her detailed drawings and the scientific report confirming the mold’s unique ability to break down plastics. Dr. Miles was also there, acknowledging her contribution with a respectful nod. As visitors asked about her inspiration, deep peace settled in Reagan’s heart. She realized that staying true to her unique vision was her greatest strength. She had proven that beauty and truth could be found in the most unexpected things, and that patience and determination can turn things that were overlooked into a remarkable success.

When I was a senior in high school, my best friend Kyle and I were inseparable. We'd bonded firmly since freshman year. Over the years, we shared every secret, studied together for important exams, and cheered each other on at every football game. Kyle was brilliant — quiet but perceptive, and he'd always been my most reliable supporter whenever I felt insecure about academic competitions or social interactions.
Things took an unexpected twist (转折) when we both applied for the same academic scholarship. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could significantly ease our college financial burdens. I spent weeks polishing my application, pouring all my effort into the essay that detailed my volunteer experience at the community library — an experience I believed would make my application stand out.
However, on the day of submission, I was shocked to find my essay draft missing from my locker. Panic surged through me, and at that exact moment, I caught sight of Kyle slipping a folder with an identical cover into the submission box. A wave of betrayal washed over me—I assumed he'd stolen my draft to gain an unfair advantage. I met him in the corridor, my voice trembling with rage(愤怒). To my astonishment, he just stood there, eyes filled with confusion and hurt, but he refused to say a single word in defense. Our friendship broke up overnight, and we became distant strangers even when sitting in the same classroom.
The truth, as it often does, arrived too late. A week later, our guidance counselor handed me a faded green folder found deep in the lost-and-found. My essay had likely fallen behind my locker months prior! The realization hit me like a physical blow; his submission had been his own original project. A few days before the graduation day, the principal announced Kyle as the scholarship recipient (获得者).

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I knew I could not let this silence be our ending. Gathering all my courage, I approached Kyle after the announcement. My hands trembled as I held out the green folder, the proof of my mistake, and stammered an apology. “I was wrong,” I said, voice cracking. “I accused you without listening, without trusting you.” To my relief, he did not walk away. After a long pause, he sighed softly and said, “I missed you too.” We sat on the empty bleachers that afternoon, talking for hours about the scholarship, my misplaced essay, and how much we had both regretted the silence between us.
I felt a surge of gratitude for his forgiveness. His quiet understanding reminded me that true friendship is not shattered by misunderstandings but strengthened by humility and honesty. On graduation day, as we tossed our caps into the air, Kyle handed me a small note that read, “Best friends do not need perfect trust. They rebuild it together.” Tears welled in my eyes, not from regret, but from hope. Though life would soon take us to different colleges, I knew our bond had been forged anew, not in ease, but in grace.

On the Saturday morning, I could see rays of sunlight as I said good morning to my brother, Willie aged six while I was nine. Breaking up for a summer holiday, I felt at ease and plotted (暗中策划) our own delightful day.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Mum smiled at me. “Get yourself dressed, Shawn. Run out and collect some firewood. I’ll fix you some hot cakes.”
I slipped on my clothes, grabbed the ax and headed straight for the outhouse. There father sat freely with a bottle of beer in hand. During the summer holiday, he would find time to take us to catch some fish for supper. However, his fishing pole missing, we could have no choice but to try something different.
I walked with my chin up as I thought about what a great day this was going to be. Willie and I were going to ride our bikes into town, and I was sure we’d find some empty bottles, maybe enough to buy some ice cream, my favorite while Willie had a preference for sweets. With the birds bouncing (跳动) up and down in the tree, I thought it was going to be a great day.
Everything done. Mum’s hot cakes were waiting for me. Willie finished his breakfast in a flash.
“Mum. can we go now?” I asked, as I swallowed down the last forkful of hot cakes.
“Now, Shawn, you should be careful. Willie hasn’t gone out on the roads much, so you let him ride ahead of you. Keep a good eye on him. OK?”
“Take care, Willie,” I screamed when we cycled towards a mountain called Andover, the peak of which was the perfect spot to find empty bottles. Stark’s Store paid cash, two cents each, and we thought we were rich every time Mr Stark handed us our reward in real money. Cycling up the mountain was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

Tired but delighted, we arrived at the peak of Andover. The wind blew gently, carrying the fresh smell of pine. We quickly got down to work, searching every corner — under the rocks, beside the bushes, and even behind the old wooden sign. Soon, our bike baskets were filled with empty bottles. Willie jumped up and down excitedly, yelling, “We can buy so many sweets!” I smiled, imagining the cold, creamy ice cream melting on my tongue. We tied the bottles tightly to the bikes and started heading down the mountain, the wind rushing through our hair.
In front of me was Stark’s shelves with everything kids dreamed of, but I hesitated. I glanced at Willie, who was staring at the colorful candy jars with bright eyes. I counted the money Mr. Stark handed us, then turned to my brother. “Pick any sweets you want, Willie. My treat,” I said. His face lit up like the sun. We left the store with him holding a big bag of candies and me with a small cone of ice cream. The taste was even sweeter than I’d imagined, knowing I’d made my brother happy.

The day I met Atlas, my guide dog, was the day my world began to expand again. After losing most of my sight in my twenties, I had escaped into a shell of caution and fear. The busy city streets, once familiar, became sort of terrifying barriers. My white walking stick was a tool, but it felt like a symbol of my limitations. So although I was once outgoing and playful, I chose to be at home more to avoid the special eyes. My parents were afraid of my situation and they tried ways to help me out.
Atlas, a kind of dog with high intelligence, gentle eyes, was supposed to be a practical solution. But from the moment his harness (狗绳) was fitted into my hand, I knew he was more than that.
For weeks, we trained together. He learned to cooperate with me, making me understand various clues to avoid low-hanging branches, stop dead at the top of subway stairs... I learned to trust him — to hide my fear in his capable guidance. It wasn’t easy. The instinct (本能) to shy away at every sound, to tighten the harness in anticipation of danger, was a constant battle. But with each successful journey, my confidence grew. Atlas wasn’t just leading me; he was pulling me back into the stream of life.
One afternoon, we were on our usual route home from the park. The air was gentle and pleasant, and I was feeling unusually relaxed, chatting to Atlas as we walked. We were approaching a major intersection we had crossed dozens of times. The traffic light switched, signaling the “walk” signal. Atlas started forward, as he always did. But midway across, he suddenly froze, his body blocking mine. A second later, I heard the terrifying sound of an engine speeding up — a truck had run the red light.

One possible version:
In that heart-stopping moment, everything I had learned about trust was put to the extreme test. My every nature screamed to panic, to step back into the path of other vehicles. I could feel the rush of the truck as it ran past, a blow of wind and noise that made my heart pound beyond control. But Atlas was an unmovable rock against my legs. He didn’t move an inch, holding me safely in place until the danger had completely passed. The sound of screeching brakes and angry horns faded, leaving only the sound of my ragged breaths and his steady presence.
Safely on the sidewalk, I dropped to my knees and threw my arms around Atlas. I buried my face in his fur, no longer able to hold back the tears of relief and gratitude. He wiggled in my embrace, licking my face as if to assure me that everything was alright. He was my savior, my partner. People gathered around, asking if I was Okay, their voices filled with concern. But all I could say, over and over, was “He saved me. My dog saved me.” That day, Atlas didn’t just save me from a physical accident; he finally and completely erased the last shadow of doubt from my heart.

Clara’s sketchbook (素描本) fell from her hands as her father’s loud voice filled the kitchen. “Stop this ‘artist’ dream and take the job at the law office! You think painting can pay for food and rent? It’s just a hobby, not a real job!” Arthur Hale was sad and angry — he’d started his building business from nothing, and all he wanted was a stable (稳定的) life for his daughter. Their home was filled with useful things: full bookshelves, a strong dining table, and no sign of Clara’s messy paints or half-done paintings.
Clara’s heart hurt. “It’s not just a dream, Dad. Painting is what I’m meant to do! I got into the Royal College of Art — this is my big chance!” Since she’d said no to the law job and accepted the art school offer, they’d hardly spoken nicely to each other. Arthur grew up poor, working two part-time jobs to finish trade school; he couldn’t understand why his daughter would choose such an unsure path. “Artists often go hungry, Clara,” he’d say again and again, his voice getting harder. “I won’t watch you struggle like I did.”
That night, Clara packed her sketchbooks and paints and moved into a small room near the art school. Although she painted late every night, her hands always covered with paints, she faced one “no” from galleries after another. Money was tight — she often skipped lunch to buy more canvas and paints. But what she didn’t know was that Arthur had been watching.
He’d drive by her building after work, making sure her window light was on. One evening, he even left a bag of fresh fruit and her favorite apple pie outside her door. But as time flew, neither of them decided to say sorry first.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Clara decided it was time to show her father her achievement.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
After graduation, Clara held an art show successfully. It was a small but warm exhibition in a nice downtown gallery, filled with her paintings. Every brushstroke showed how hard she’d tried: the late nights she spent painting, and the hope that kept her going when galleries said no. Visitors stopped to look at her works, saying nice things about the “real feeling” in her pieces. By the end of the first day, three paintings had been sold, and a local art writer said her work was “true to herself”. Clara looked at the empty places on the walls, her heart feeling full. She knew there was one person she wanted to share this with.
Clara decided it was time to show her father her achievement. She printed a photo of her sold paintings and drove to his house. Her hands were a little shaky as she knocked. Arthur opened the door, and his eyes softened when he saw her. He took the photo, staring at the paintings for a long while. “I’m sorry I didn’t see how much this means to you,” he said gently. Clara hugged him tightly, tears warm on her cheeks. Love, she realized, isn’t about forcing a path, but about supporting someone’s dream — just as her father had done, quietly and steadily, all along.

The annual School English Festival was coming, and our class decided to perform a short play. Li Hua, a quiet and hard-working girl, was unexpectedly chosen to play the lead role. Although she knew her lines well, the idea of performing in front of the whole school made her increasingly nervous.
Wang Lin, Li Hua’s desk mate and a naturally confident girl, had a supporting role. She noticed Li Hua’s growing anxiety. During breaks, while others chatted happily, Li Hua would sit alone, nervously reviewing her script.
On the day of the final rehearsal (排练), something unexpected happened. When delivering her most important line, Li Hua’s mind went completely blank. A few students giggled (咯咯笑). Li Hua’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she wished she could disappear. The teacher called for a short break.
Upset, Li Hua rushed into the empty hallway, tears in her eyes. She thought about quitting. As she took out her phone to message her mom, a friendly voice interrupted her. “Don’t worry, everyone forgets lines sometimes,” said Wang Lin with a warm smile. “The most important thing is to enjoy ourselves and tell the story well.” She then spent the next fifteen minutes practicing the lines with Li Hua, suggesting breathing techniques and encouraging her to put more emotion into her performance. She even shared her own experience of stage fright, which made Li feel much better.
On the night of the performance, the school hall was packed. As the opening music began, Li Hua stood behind the curtain, her heart pounding. She took a deep breath and glanced at Wang Lin, who gave her a reassuring smile and a thumbs-up.

Paragraph 1
Taking a deep breath, Li Hua walked onto the bright stage. The spotlight shone directly on her, and for a moment, she felt her nervousness returning. But then she remembered Wang Lin’s advice about enjoying the moment and connecting with the audience. She saw the friendly faces in the crowd and began to speak her lines clearly and confidently. She poured all her emotions into the character, forgetting about her fears. When she finished her final line, the entire audience burst into warm applause. The loudest cheer seemed to come from Wang Lin, who was watching proudly from the side of the stage.
Paragraph 2
After the successful performance, Li Hua found Wang Lin backstage. She was among the cheering crowd, surrounded by the classmates, all laughing and celebrating. Li Hua quickly made her way through the group and gave Wang Lin a tight hug. “Thank you so much I truly couldn’t have done it without your help and encouragement,” Li Hua said, her voice filled with emotion. Wang Lin smiled warmly and replied, “Of course, you could. You just needed to believe in yourself a bit more.” In that heartfelt moment, Li Hua deeply understood that real friendship is about offering support and kindness when it’s needed most. Their shared experience had made their bond stronger than ever.

注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
