Passage2
Chances of depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses have been increasing in young generations for at least a decade. And in recent years, scientists and doctors have often regarded social media as one possible cause. But how big a role social media plays seems to depend on how teens choose to use it.
In recent years, social media has done some great things. It has brought people closer together. It has helped people form big communities that can reach around the world. And it can be an important place for people to find support and connection. But some teenagers can come across harmful content (内容) and even suffer from cyberbullying (网络暴力). For instance, one 2022 survey found that nearly half of all teens in the survey were cyberbullied online.
Social media is also a space where people often compare themselves to others. Am I pretty enough? Strong enough? Smart enough? Cool enough? One study of teens 13 to 17 years old found that almost half reported that time spent on social media made them feel worse about their bodies. Only about one in every seven said viewing social media made them feel better.
To make sure social media plays a positive role, there is a lot we can do to take control. In May 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General shared some advice on teens’ social media use. It offers tips people can take to help ensure teenagers and their families have the necessary information and tools to make social media safer for children.
First of all, technology companies can better survey the influence of their products on teens, share data with researchers to increase our overall understanding of the influences, and make development decisions that put safety and health in the first place—including protecting teens’ privacy and better following the age limits.
Besides, parents can make plans in their families such as building tech-free zones that better develop in-person relationships, teaching teenagers about responsible online behavior and modeling that behavior, and reporting problematic content and activities.
Also, teenagers can follow healthy practices like limiting time on platforms, blocking unwanted content, being careful about sharing personal information, and reaching out if they or friends need help or see abuse (辱骂) on the platforms.
Janis Whitlock, a psychologist who has been studying Internet use by teenagers since the early 2000s, says that social media use needs to be intentional. By that, she means it should be used for some purposeful goals, not just to pass the time or as a distraction (分散注意). She asks the teens she works with to put together a “menu of practices” that encourages good mental health. It should include little things they enjoy. Whitlock suggests that if kids feel anxious, they should go back to that menu again and do something from their list-instead of looking for distractions on their phone and social media.
1.Why does the writer mention the study in Paragraph 3?
A.To show the problem of social media among teens.
B.To compare different ways of viewing social media.
C.To introduce the ways to make social media more positive.
D.To tell the reasons why teens are cyberbullied on social media.
2.Which of the following situations makes sure the social media plays a positive role?
A.Bill often turns to Douyin for short videos as a way to pass his free time.
B.Tom shows others’ real names online to help his friend who is being cyberbullied.
C.WeChat regularly shares teenagers’ personal information with technology companies.
D.Amy’s parents teach her to have polite and respectful online conversations with others.
3.What can we learn about social media from the passage?
A.Using social media as a distraction is better than using it for other goals.
B.People can find support and connections through the help of social media.
C.Over half of the kids feel better about their bodies when using social media.
D.Social media is the main cause of depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses.
4.What can be the best title of the passage?
A.Online safety: Why does social media matter?
B.In-person relationships: How can social media help?
C.Social media: How can we use it to improve teens’ mental health?
D.Teens’ mental problems: Why do they influence the use of social media?

Passage1
(25-26八年级上·北京·期中)Life is always changing—sometimes great, other times worrying and stressful. There are lots of benefits in accepting the unexpected and simple things you can do to make it easier to deal with life changes.
There can be lots of new things that happen in your life. Some can be really positive things that you make happen yourself, like joining a club or making a new friend. However, some changes you face could make you feel worried or uncertain. They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or family life changing because of parents’ separating. They can be smaller ones like new schedules at home due to parents’ or carers’ working habits or a teacher you don’t know taking over your class. All of these things can bring up some pretty big feelings—and that’s OK.
Why can it be hard to deal with? Changes can be difficult because it often brings feelings of uncertainty. Emily Hanlon is a child psychologist (someone who studies how children think, feel and behave) who explains, “Our brains like habits and usual actions. They help us feel safe. When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like entering a new place. It is like going on a surprise adventure with no map. This can make us feel nervous or afraid because we don’t know what will come next.” Changes can also be hard if you don’t feel quite ready for it, or that you are not in control of whatever is happening.
Can changes be a good thing? Yes—life would be very boring if everything stayed the same all the time. Trying new things and making changes help you find what you like and dislike. For example, if you didn’t taste that new kind of ice cream, how would you know you love it? It also helps you grow and learn skills. Hanlon says, “While changes can feel frightening, it often brings new adventures, new friends, and new special abilities—well, maybe not great strengths, but surely the abilities to get back confidence and grow stronger.”
1.Which of the following is a small life change?
A.A friend going away. B.You moving schools.
C.Your parents separating. D.A new teacher taking over your class.
2.According to Emily Hanlon, “a surprise adventure with no map” in Paragraph 3 is used ________.
A.to explain why change feels difficult
B.to describe the importance of the map
C.to compare changes to dangerous adventures
D.to suggest ways to avoid changes and keep safe
3.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.Changes help you avoid new experiences.
B.Changes make life full of new adventures.
C.Changes make life feel boring and stressful.
D.Changes help you feel sure about yourself.
4.What can we learn from the writer’s opinion on changes?
A.They should be avoided at all costs.
B.They should be accepted with some skills.
C.They are challenging but they can improve your abilities.
D.They can help us fight against uncertainty.
Passage2
(23-24八年级下·上海浦东新·期中)As more Americans try to have healthy lifestyles and protect the environment, the idea of growing their own food has become popular among city people. Not long ago, a city gardening meeting, Rooting DC, took place in Washington, D.C. Many organizations and people got together to support the food movement.

Passage3
(2025八年级上·江苏南通·专题练习)Every winter, influenza (flu) spreads rapidly in schools across China. Symptoms like fever, cough, and body aches can keep students home for days, affecting both health and learning. But doctors say flu is largely preventable—if we take the right steps early.
The most effective methods include frequent handwashing with soap, getting 8–9 hours of sleep, eating balanced meals rich in vegetables and fruit, and—most importantly—getting a flu vaccine. “Vaccination doesn’t guarantee you won’t get sick, but it greatly reduces the risk and severity,” explains Dr. Zhang from Jiangsu Provincial Hospital.
Some people believe, “I’m healthy, so I don’t need the shot.” But Dr. Zhang disagrees: “Even if you don’t feel ill, you can carry and spread the virus to babies, elderly relatives, or classmates with weak immune systems.” That’s why many schools in Jiangsu now offer free flu shots on campus. Last year, schools that participated saw a 40% drop in flu-related absences.
Students like Wang Hao, 14, say the shot was quick and painless. “I got it during break time. No big deal,” he said. His classmate Liu Ying added, “Now I wash my hands after using the bus handrail—that’s where germs hide!”
Health educators also remind students to avoid sharing water bottles or utensils, and to cover their mouth with an elbow (not hands) when coughing. Opening windows for fresh air during class helps too.
“Prevention is always better than cure,” says school nurse Ms. Li. “A few small habits can protect you and your whole community.”
With flu season approaching again, public health departments urge all students to get vaccinated by November. As Wang Hao puts it: “Staying healthy means I won’t miss the basketball finals!”

C.To miss P.E. class. D.To join a health competition.
3.What do schools in Jiangsu offer to fight flu?
A.Free face masks. B.Free flu vaccinations.
C.Free vitamins. D.Free online doctors.
4.What is the passage mainly about?

(25-26八年级上·山东青岛·期中)Taking a vacation is not just a fun break from work or school, it is also good for our physical and mental (身心的) health.
When we go on vacation, we get more time to relax. The change of the environment helps us forget about terrible things in our daily life. This can lower our blood pressure (降低我们的血压) and improve our sleep. A study showed that people who took regular vacations were 30% less likely to get sick.
Vacations also let us explore new places and cultures. We can try different delicious foods, learn about local traditions, and meet people from different places. These experiences help us see the world differently, which makes us know more and makes our life colourful. Even small things, like reading a map in a foreign city or ordering food in another language, can teach us problem-solving skills.
What’s more, spending time with family and friends during vacations improves our relationships (关系). In our busy lives, we spend most of our time studying or working. During vacations, we have more time to share stories and create memories together. This can bring us closer. Some people even find that vacations help them understand their loved ones better.

Passage6
(25-26八年级上·北京·期中)Although AI can bring people comfort, it still cannot match the full abilities of a human doctor.
From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to solve different personal problems. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful advice from the popular chatbot. AI is changing the way people find mental health support. But can AI truly take the place of a human doctor?
Around the world, 45 percent of people who needed mental treatment in 2024 did not receive it, with difficulties including cost and a shortage of doctors, according to Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon. He believes AI could help solve the shortage of mental health services. “If people can find some support and opinions by talking to a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” said Lowd.
Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for mental support in some ways. However, he pointed out that AI cannot completely take the place of real doctors because it doesn’t have the human side which is important for treatment. Human doctors develop a deeper understanding of people’s feelings and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more practical treatment plans.
The use of AI in mental health also raises worries over its reliability (可靠性). “AI chatbots will act as doctors if asked, without any of the training or responsibility of human doctors,” said Richard Lachman, a professor in Canada.
Scientists believe the key to making AI mental treatment safe is proper government control. Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that provides users with conversations through an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK’s National Health Service, following a list of strict standards. As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human mental health means finding a balance between what’s helpful and what’s dangerous.
1.Why can’t AI fully replace human doctors according to Li Yong?
A.AI performs badly in treatment. B.AI treatment has the human side.
C.AI can’t understand feelings deeply. D.AI can’t meet people’s needs for physical support.
2.Which of the following is TRUE about AI mental treatment?
A.It can totally function as human doctors.
B.Wysa’s users must meet a list of strict standards.
C.There’s no need to doubt or worry about its effects
D.Government rules are necessary to ensure its safety.
3.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.AI can hardly be used to solve the health problems in daily life.
B.AI cares for people’s mental health in a well-organized way.
C.AI helps mental treatment but should be properly controlled.
D.AI takes responsibility for its patients just like human doctors do.
Passage7
(25-26八年级上·北京·期中)Have you ever wished you could be better organized or more sociable? Perhaps you’re a constant worrier, and you’d prefer to be a little more carefree? Actually at least 2/3 of people would like to change some elements (元素) of their personality. In the past, such desire (渴望) appeared to be useless. One’s personality was thought to be formed in childhood and to remain fixed throughout his whole life.
Recent research from psychology professor Nathan Hudson and his colleagues, however, challenges this expectation of a fixed personality. With the right psychological strategies and enough effort, many people can successfully shape their desired personality.
Their interventions (干预) typically involve recommending regular activities that reflect the personality traits (特征) people wish to adopt. Introverts who wish to be more outgoing, for example, might have the goal of introducing themselves to a stranger once a week, or making small talk with the cashier in the supermarket. Someone who wishes to be more organized and disciplined might be asked to carefully double-check an email before sending it, or to write a to-do list before going to bed.
These small tasks might seem unimportant, but they hope to make the new thinking patterns and behavior habitual. So far, evidence shows this method works well. In one 15-week experiment of 400 people, participants (受试者) accepted an average of two challenges each week. After they completed those tasks, their traits changed in the desired direction, according to a personality questionnaire.
The unexpected personality change should be good news for anyone who wishes they were a bit more sociable, organized, or happy-go-lucky. Another potential benefit is that awareness of this research could help improve mental health.
So, whether you are struggling with serious issues or improving small problems, remember that character is within your own hands and you have the power to become what you want to be.
1.According to the passage, an old belief about personality is that ________.
A.most people are satisfied with their personality B.sociable or organized people are more popular
C.people can’t change their personality traits D.childhood has nothing to do with personality
2.In Nathan Hudson’s research participants ________.
A.became more aware of their mental health
B.formed new thinking patterns and behaviors
C.reported their completed tasks in the questionnaire
D.were advised to work as cashiers in the supermarket
3.Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A.A Great Cure for Mental Problem B.Personality: It Is Not Set in Stone
C.Your Personality Shapes Your Future D.Mental problems: Not Just What You See
Passage8
(25-26九年级上·北京东城·期中)Nowadays, most of the world’s population lives in the city, where poor air quality and noise pollution are common, and there is little chance to connect with nature. People may prefer going outdoors and enjoying the health benefits of being in nature. So, don’t be surprised that your doctor gives you a prescription (处方) for parks instead of pills.
Nature prescribing, gaining its popularity recently, involves a doctor encouraging patients to spend time in nature as a health activity. The nature-based activities have developed as an effective healthcare treatment to improve people’s well-being.
What are the nature prescriptions like? Well, doctors may give patients a variety of choices. Patients may choose direct exposure (接触) to nature, by using a natural space for running, walking, open-water swimming, or other physical activities. Other times, the exposure to nature might not be that obvious, such as biking along a path near a river on the way to work. Patients may also be encouraged to participate in environmental protection projects. For example, they can help build birdhouses in forests, which provide a safe space for birds to live in and raise their young.
Research into nature prescribing activities has found that participants experience both physical and mental health benefits. For example, nature-based activities can result in a reduction of blood pressure and better heart health. Besides, spending time in nature has been linked to lower levels of stress and anxiety. Not only that, an outdoor program in nature involving a group of people can also reduce feelings of loneliness among participants.
Nature prescribing has been carried out successfully throughout the world. For example, in England, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust runs the Blue Prescribing Project. The project provides opportunities for people with poor mental health in London to enjoy the wetland environment. This has led to great improvement of their situation.
However, there are still several challenges when nature prescribing is adapted to different settings. One major difficulty is the need to train qualified health providers who can organize effective activities, which takes time and requires money. Moreover, since some patients may not find certain nature-based activities interesting, more activities need to be designed to meet various needs.
1.If patients want to take part in nature prescribing activities, they can ________.
A.swim for hours in an indoor swimming pool B.paint birds and flowers at community libraries
C.plant trees in the local park near their houses D.watch environmental protection programs on TV
2.What do you know about nature prescribing from the passage?
A.It can never take the place of having medicine.
B.It fails to benefit patients when carried out in London.
C.It works much better for physical health.
D.It requires further development to meet different needs other than mental health.
3.Which might be the best title for the passage?
A.From pills to parks: the influence of nature on health
B.A step into the wild: the time to protect our planet
C.A trip through forests: a chance to enjoy the beauty
D.From indoors to outdoors: an active way to relax
Passage9
(25-26八年级上·北京海淀·期中)While many people see chores as necessary pains, there are science-based reasons to change your thoughts about chores. It turns out that doing chores is not always in the ways that you might think.
As researchers state here in a study, doing tasks which don’t need a lot of effort allows the mind to float around where it will. Your mind gets a break and allows you to consider old problems with new eyes. In fact, effortless tasks create more great ideas than difficult tasks or just resting. So, doing chores can lead to creative problem-solving.
Chores are exercise snacks for health. The phrase “exercise snacks” refers to small, even tiny, pieces of physical activity, such as standing for a few minutes after sitting for a while. Taking a two-minute walk, or doing a chore like sweeping up the kitchen. Researchers have studied the effects of exercise snacks ranging (范围) from 30 seconds, like walking up a flight of stairs, to 10 minutes, like washing dishes. Some of the health effects include improved memory, reduced risk of some serious diseases, and longer life.
Chores are related to our mental (心理的) health. Completing chores increases (增长) your sense of self-efficacy, known as a person’s belief that they have the ability and skills to reach their goals. Self-efficacy, which was first developed by Professor Albert Bandura in the 1970s, has been shown to increase confidence, low self-efficacy is connected with worries, sadness and hopelessness, while higher self-efficacy is connected with life satisfaction, self-confidence, social connection and growth mindset.
Doing chores can reduce stress. A small study from Florida State University explored whether the chore of dish washing could reduce stress. Using a group of 51 students, they discovered that dishwashers who were asked to be mindful when washing dishes focusing on the smell of the soap, the warmth of the water, and the feel of the dishes— reported a decrease in nervousness by 27 percent and an increase in mental inspiration by 25 percent. Chores that reduce the mess can also reduce stress.
So if you’ve been thinking about cleaning out that junk drawer, do it. You’ll receive more.
1.According to Paragraph 2, the writer may agree that we can ________ by doing chores.
A.get less social B.live a better life
C.become more inventive D.change ways of exercise
2.What can we learn from the passage?
A.We need to eat snacks after sweeping up the kitchen.
B.We can get a sense of achievement by doing chores.
C.Using the soap when washing dishes increases efficacy.
D.Doing chores every day decreases the creative thinking.
3.What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To explain why most people hate doing chores and offer ways to make chores less tiring.
B.To introduce the science-supported advantages of doing chores and encourage people to do chores.
C.To prove that doing chores like washing dishes is the best way to reduce stress and improve creativity.
D.To teach readers how to use different chores to increase self-efficacy and achieve life satisfaction.
Passage10
(2025八年级上·重庆·专题练习)Last spring, Youyou (not her real name) felt embarrassed (尴尬的) every time she entered the classroom and took off her coat. At 14, she gained weight (增重) rapidly, rising from 39 to 65 kilograms. The once happy girl changed a lot because she thought she was “very fat”, reported China Daily.
Also, Youyou found it difficult to climb stairs (楼梯). So her family took her to the hospital. After discussing her lifestyle (生活方式) habits, the doctor suggested some changes to help her lose weight – eating healthier food, controlling how much she eats and doing more exercise.
Youyou is not alone. In recent years, more and more people in China are becoming overweight (超重的) and obese (肥胖的). Obesity can lead to many other health problems, such as high blood pressure and diabetes (糖尿病). So, the National Health Commission (NHC, 国家卫健委) released guidelines (指南) in 2024 to help people achieve a healthy weight and have a healthy lifestyle.
The guidelines pay special attention to weight management (管理) for each person, including babies, children and adolescents (青少年), the elderly and so on.
The Report on Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of Chinese Residents (2020) showed that nearly 20 percent of children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 are overweight or obese. For them, obesity can influence their physical activity, bone development and feelings.
The NHC offered adolescents special advice on dietary (饮食), exercise and sleep management. The guidelines advise them to exercise for more than an hour a day and avoid spending a lot of time sitting down.
“It is not simply about losing weight, but a change of lifestyle. This can help people improve overall health to work, study and live better,” noted Nanfang Daily.

【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.C

【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.C
根据第二段中“They can be smaller ones like new schedules at home due to parents’ or carers’ working habits or a teacher you don’t know taking over your class.”可知,像不认识的老师接管你的班级这样的事情属于较小的生活变化。故选D。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Changes can be difficult because it often brings feelings of uncertainty. Emily Hanlon...explains, ‘Our brains like habits and usual actions. They help us feel safe. When something changes...It is like going on a surprise adventure with no map. This can make us feel nervous or afraid because we don’t know what will come next.’”可知,Emily Hanlon用“没有地图的惊喜冒险”是为了解释为什么变化会让人感觉困难,因为变化会带来不确定性,就像没有地图的冒险,不知道接下来会发生什么,会让人紧张或害怕。故选A。

1.Which activity is NOT recommended to prevent flu?
A.Washing hands with soap. B.Eating fruit and vegetables.
C.Sharing water bottles with friends. D.Getting enough rest.
2.Why should even healthy students get flu shots?
A.To get free gifts. B.To prevent spreading the virus.
C.To miss P.E. class. D.To join a health competition.
3.What do schools in Jiangsu offer to fight flu?
A.Free face masks. B.Free flu vaccinations.
C.Free vitamins. D.Free online doctors.

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.C
