Like my dad always used to say,“If it isn't broken, don't fix it!” But,unfortunately my mental health did “break”.Aged 17 I developed anorexia(神经厌食症).I didn't realise at the time. When I was 23,I was found severely clinically anorexic.I had fasttracked treatment at The Maudsley Hospital and went through 2.5 years of treatment.People are always interested to know what helped me recover.Actually,it was simple:comedy. I'm a professional talk show actor.Comedy, for me,began as a hobby and has unbelievably progressed into a job.One of the things that initially held my attention about talk show is how it plays with pain.Humour became a way of understanding things, then a way of explaining them. Now it's become a way of helping other people. The combination of being told to speak out about mental health and writing comedies to play jokes on myself, actually turned into the best type of treatment I could ever have had.Nothing has ever really helped normalise a thought or feeling quite like a joke that makes people openly say,“Me too!” That's why I've come up with a sixweek comedy course aimed at people with mental health difficulties. It builds lasting friendships, fights against loneliness and normalises conversations around mental health; when audiences are laughing, they have to be listening, and when they're listening, they can learn. This unique opportunity enables comedy to reach people in a completely different way to all the sob stories, shocking statistics and dry documentaries(纪录片) about mental illness, inspiring with positivity rather than turning to negativity. Talk show was a must to my recovery. So,I want to pay that forward and show other people that your mental health doesn't have to be “broken” before you can “fix it”. This trend, called “sleepmaxxing”,is popular online, with videos showing off people's long, detailed bedtime routines. Some follow simple sleep tips, like keeping a regular bedtime or avoiding screens before bed.Others take things further by eating certain foods, using weighted blankets, and even taping their mouths closed to improve their sleep. Experts say it's good that more people are focusing on improving their sleep,as it shows they understand how important rest is for their health. But do all these extra steps actually help? Some sleepmaxxing habits are supported by science. Both sleepmaxxers and experts agree that a cool, dark and quiet room helps with sleep.Avoiding blue light from screens before bed can also help since it affects melatonin, the sleep hormone (激素).And keeping a regular sleep schedule makes falling asleep easier. Other tricks, like sleep apps and weighted blankets, may help some people but don't work for everyone.Similarly, some studies show red light exposure before sleep helps, while others suggest it could keep the brain stimulated. And some trends could even be dangerous. Some sleepmaxxers tape their mouths shut to prevent mouth breathing, believing it will reduce snoring (打鼾) and dry mouth. However, experts warn this can be risky, especially for those with sleep apnea,a condition that causes breathing to stop and start during sleep. That's because there is evidence that sleep apnea symptoms, such as snoring, get worse in about a third of people who tape their mouths. While getting good sleep is important, experts say trying too hard can actually make things worse. Some people become so stressed about sleep that it affects their health—a condition known as orthosomnia.Remember, sleep should be restful, not stressful! 5.What is “sleepmaxxing” ? A.A craze for improving sleep. B.A new type of exercise. C.A kind of sleep disorder. A.All sleepmaxxing habits are supported by science. B.Sleep apps and weighted blankets work for everyone. C.A warm room is beneficial for sleep according to sleepmaxxers. A.It increases snoring. B.It can worsen sleep apnea. C.It affects melatonin. D.It can lead to dry mouth. 根据第六段“However, experts warn this can be risky, especially for those with sleep apnea,a condition that causes breathing to stop and start during sleep. That's because there is evidence that sleep apnea symptoms, such as snoring, get worse in about a third of people who tape their mouths.[然而,专家警告说,这可能是有风险的,尤其是对于那些患有睡眠呼吸暂停症的人来说,这种疾病会导致睡眠期间呼吸停止和开始。这是因为有证据表明,大约三分之一用胶带封住嘴巴的人,睡眠呼吸暂停症状(如打鼾)会加重。]”可知,把嘴闭上有风险是因为它可能会使睡眠呼吸暂停的症状恶化。故选B。 答案 B 8.What is the main concern of experts about “sleepmaxxing” ? A.It's a waste of time. B.It's too complex to follow. C.It relies too much on technology. D.It may cause stress and health risks. 根据最后一段“While getting good sleep is important, experts say trying too hard can actually make things worse. Some people become so stressed about sleep that it affects their health—a condition known as orthosomnia.Remember, sleep should be restful, not stressful!(虽然获得良好的睡眠很重要,但专家表示,过于努力可能会让事情变得更糟。有些人对睡眠感到如此焦虑,以至于影响了他们的健康——这种情况被称为睡眠健康强迫症。记住,睡眠应该是放松的,而不是有压力的!)”可知,专家对“睡眠优化”的主要担忧是它可能会导致压力和健康风险。故选D。 答案 D Ⅱ.完形填空 (2025·辽宁大连期中)In one of Baltimore's poorest neighborhoods is one of its richest doctors.Dr.Zollicoffer,known 1 by his patients as Dr.Z.,is a 66yearold private family doctor. He is rich not in money—he says he is pretty much broke—but he is filled with job 2 .
