A
I still remember that was a sunny Sunday afternoon when I stopped at a tea house to enjoy a cup of tea. Suddenly, I felt a hand on the back of my jacket and heard someone say, “Hi, David! How are you doing?” Looking back, I saw a man, who looked kind of familiar. However, I couldn’t remember where we had met before. The young man also held a cup of tea, so I asked him to join me. Very soon, his story began to evoke my memory.
His name is Peter, a boy I met on a cold night. After taking a piano lesson, Peter was driving to Texas to join in a friend’s birthday party. A heavy snow had arrived that afternoon, and by midnight, the snowdrifts (雪堆) were getting deep. His car was stuck in a snowdrift just down the road from my house.
He walked to my house for help. I helped him pull his car out of the snowdrift and up to the street where the snow had been cleaned away. This was a normal happening here during the winter. I couldn’t count the times someone had helped me to pull my car from a snowdrift. However, it was an unforgettable experience for him because he was only eighteen at that time, and he said he was very afraid at that time. After all, no one wanted to be stuck in a snowdrift at night.
Sometimes, one simple kindness at the right moment can change the direction of a life. So, be kind and helpful.
31.I felt a hand on the back of my jacket when I was having a cup of ________.
A.coffee B.juice C.tea D.milk

33.What did Peter do in Texas that night?
A.He hurried to practice playing the piano at home. B.He drove to celebrate his friend’s birthday party.
C.He played the piano on his friend’s birthday party. D.He planned to improve his driving skills.
34.Why is Peter thankful to David for such a normal thing?
A.Because nobody else wanted to help Peter. B.Because it was the first time for Peter to get this kind of help.
C.Because Peter was so young and afraid at that time. D.Because there was something wrong with his car.
35.The writer’s main purpose of writing the passage is to tell us ________.
A.to ask for help in difficult situations B.not to drive when the weather is terrible
C.to help others if it is a piece of cake D.to show kindness no matter how simple it is
B
What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in, to speak and to share. It is important in letting others get to know how we think and feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with others, we won’t fully believe in ourselves or others.
Here are a few ways for you to be more open. First, make your outside behavior the same with your inside feelings and thoughts. Second, share how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Third, try to change your questions into statements and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For example, you might say, “I feel happy that you’re here.” instead of “Are you glad that you’re here?” Finally, try not to say, “I don’t know.” This usually means I don’t want to think about it anymore.
Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friend, but not with people you don’t know well, because you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besides, some people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to them, they will feel very uncomfortable at times.
In a word, being open is a good way for us to get on well with other people, but we’d better keep the balance between being open and not being too open.
Being Open
36 of being open
Invite others to come in, to speak and to share.
Show others how we think and feel.
Let others understand and 37 us.
Believe in ourselves and others by being open.
Ways to be more open
Make sure your outside behavior is the same with your inside feelings and thoughts.
Try to share your real feelings.
Make statements instead of 38 and use the first person.
Try not to say, “I don’t know.”
Reasons for not being too open
You are not sure how others will use your information.
You will make them feel very uncomfortable 39 .
Conclusion: It will help us get on well with others if we keep the balance between being open and not being too open.

根据第一段“Looking back, I saw a man, who looked kind of familiar. However, I couldn’t remember where we had met before. (回头一看,我看到一个男人,他看起来有点面熟。然而,我不记得我们以前在哪里见过。)”以及后文讲述了关于这个人的故事,可知这个故事让“我”想起了之前的事,所以“evoke”意思是“唤起”。故选B。

36.根据“What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in, to speak and to share. It is important in letting others get to know how we think and feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with others, we won’t fully believe in ourselves or others. (我们所说的开放到底是什么意思?敞开心扉是一种邀请别人进来,说话和分享。让别人了解我们的想法和感受是很重要的。这样我们就会被别人理解和接受。如果我们对他人不开放,我们就不会完全相信自己或他人。)”可知,以上内容主要是陈述我们所说的开放的意思,而且是多个意思,用复数形式。故答案是:Meanings。
37.根据“It is important in letting others get to know how we think and feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. (让别人了解我们的想法和感受是很重要的。这样我们就会被别人理解和接受。)”可知,开放的一个意思是让别人理解和接受我们。故答案是:accept。
38.根据“Third, try to change your questions into statements and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. (第三,试着把你的问题变成陈述,用第一人称说话,这样人们会更容易理解你。)”可知,变得更加开放的一种方式是试着把你的问题变成陈述,用第一人称说话。故答案是:questions。
39.根据“If we say everything we feel or think to them, they will feel very uncomfortable at times. (如果我们把我们的感觉或想法都告诉他们,他们有时会感到很不舒服。)”可知,不能太开放的原因是如果我们把我们的感觉或想法都告诉他们,他们有时会感到很不舒服。“有时”用一个恰当的词可翻译为“sometimes”。故答案是:sometimes。
