A
I was 11 years old standing outside in just my underwear while I watched the house that I grew up in rapidly burn to the ground.
A few minutes earlier I had been in bed when a scream woke me up. My grandma’s bedroom was just next to mine and my brother’s. A fire had broken out there and awakened her. Hearing her, my brother jumped into action, running from room to room quickly waking everyone in the house. Before we could do anything, the fire destroyed it. We all had just made it outside when the flames (火焰) took hold of every room.
I stood there shaking while the fire destroyed my books, clothes, and toys. I watched helplessly while my mom cried and my dad sighed. I wondered what was going to happen to us because we had lost all our things.
As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that mattered were not things. I saw my brother running around to get help. I saw my grandma and dad wrapped in each other’s arms and my mom holding our little dog. I realized at that moment that we were all alive. Our lives would continue without the “stuff” that was burning. We would all live to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.
31. Who first found the house was on fire?
A. The author. B. The brother. C. The grandma. D. The parents.
32. What was the author thinking about when seeing everything destroyed?
A. He was wondering how the fire got started.
B. He was worried about their life after the fire.
C. He was mad about losing his clothes and toys.
D. He felt lucky that they were saved by the firefighters.
33. What does the author mainly want to tell readers in paragraph 4?
A. That their life and family matter most.
B. That his family was lucky enough to escape.
C. That family and pets both meant a lot to him.
D. That the things burned in the fire didn’t matter at all.
34. Which of the following quotes is the author most likely to agree with?
A. “Keep calm and carry on.” — the Ministry of Information, UK
B “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” — Friedrich Nietzsche
C. “You’ll be alive. That’s what matters. Enjoy what you have.” — Richelle Mead
D. “Home is where you are loved the most and act the worst.”— Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Rome can be pricey for travelers, which is why many choose to stay in a hostel (旅社). The hostels in Rome offer a bed in a dorm room for around $25 a night, and for that, you’ll often get to stay in a central location with security and comfort.
Yellow Hostel
If I had to make just one recommendation for where to stay in Rome, it would be Yellow Hostel. It’s one of the best-rated hostels in the city, and for good reason. It’s affordable, and it’s got a fun atmosphere without being too noisy. As an added bonus, it’s close to the main train station.
Hostel Alessandro Palace
If you love social hostels, this is the best hostel for you in Rome. Hostel Alessandro Palace is fun. Staff members hold plenty of bar events for guests like free shots, bar crawls and karaoke. There’s also an area on the rooftop for hanging out with other travelers during the summer.
Youth Station Hostel
If you’re looking for cleanliness and a modern hostel, look no further than Youth Station. It offers beautiful furnishings and beds. There are plenty of other benefits, too; it doesn’t charge city tax; it has both air conditioning and a heater for the rooms; it also has free Wi-Fi in every room.
Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes
Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes is located just a 10-minute walk from the central city station and it’s close to all of the city’s main attractions. The staff is friendly and helpful, providing you with a map of the city when you arrive, and offering advice if you require some. However, you need to pay 2 euros a day for Wi-Fi.

C. Price.
D. Location.
36. Which hotel best suits people who enjoy an active social life?

In most museums, there is no shouting or running, and you must not touch anything. But the Science Museum in London is different. It is noisy! People talk about what they see and do here, and there are some very noisy machines as well.
You learn about communications and environment as well as maths physics and chemistry on the second and third floors. For example, you can find out how people dig coal from the ground and use it to create energy. They even explain how X-rays let you see inside your body.
The Launchpad on the third floor is the most popular room. There are lots of physics experiments. For example, if you want to fill a bag with sand, you control a truck on wheels and move it into the correct place. You can also find out how people travel into space and back again.
On the fourth and fifth floors, you can learn about what medicine was like in the past. If you compare (比较) the medicine of the past with the medicine of today, you will feel lucky next time you visit a doctor!
The Science Museum is interesting for people of all ages. You can always find something new and have a wonderful time there. The museum is free to enter, so you can go in for a few minutes or stay all day. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

City people usually think they are a lot smarter than country people. They often laugh at simple country ways. But people do not laugh at country music. It is one of the most popular kinds of music in the United States today.
Perhaps it is so popular because it is about simple but strong human feelings and events — love, sadness, good times and bad times, it tells real-life stories and sounds the way people really talk. As life becomes more and more complicated (复杂的), it is good to hear music about ordinary people.
Country music, sometimes called country western, comes from two kinds of music. One is the traditional music of the people in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States. The other is traditional cowboy music from the West. The singers usually play the guitars, and in the 1920s they started using electric guitars.
At first city people said country music was low-class. It was popular mostly in the South. But during World War Ⅱ, thousands of Southerners went to the Northeast and Midwest to work in the factories. They took their music with them. Soldiers from the rest of the country went to army camps in the South. They learned to like country music. Slowly it became popular all over the country.
Today country music is popular everywhere in the United States and Canada, in small towns and in NewYork City, among black and white, and among educated and uneducated people. About 1200 radio stations broadcast country music twenty-four hours a day. People sing it in their languages. The music that started with cowboys and poor farmers is now popular all over the world.

B. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” — Friedrich Nietzsche
C. “You’ll be alive. That’s what matters. Enjoy what you have.” — Richelle Mead
D. “Home is where you are loved the most and act the worst.”— Marjorie Pay Hinckley
