1.I can hardly understand this passage ______ there aren’t any new words in it.
A.unless B.because C.though D.until
根据句意和空格后面的“there aren’t any new words in it”可知,此处用though引导让步状语从句,表示“虽然里面没有生词”。故选C。
2.My father was so angry at ______ I was doing ______ he walked out without a word.
A.what; what B.what; that C.that; that D.that; what
3.The film ______ by Spielberg is well worth ______.
A.was directed; seeing B.directed; to see C.was directed; to see D.directed; seeing
4.Jack, my American pen friend, shows great interest in Baoying. He wonders ________.
A.when Baoying Museum is built B.why are Baoying noodles so tasty
C.if spring is the best time to visit Baoying D.that Baoying is famous for lotus
5.—Kate, I’m going to a party tonight. Could you please tell me ______?
—With pleasure, wait a moment, please.
A.if the skirt looked nice on me B.what should I pay attention to
C.that I should take some flowers D.whether I can order a taxi on the phone
根据“Could you please tell me…” 而D选项“whether I can order a taxi on the phone”符合宾语从句的用法。故选D。
6.—Only those who have a lot in common can get along well.
—______. Opposites sometimes attract.
A.I hope so B.I don’t care C.I don’t think so D.I can’t agree more
I hope so我希望如此;I don’t care我不在乎;I don’t think so我不这样认为;I can’t agree more我再同意不过了。根据“Only those who have a lot in common can get along well.”
7.—According to the new traffic rules, people ______ wear helmets when riding e-bikes.
—Safety comes first. We ______ be too careful.
A.can; can’t B.must; can’t C.may; needn’t D.need; mustn’t
can能;must必须;may可以;need需要;can’t不能;needn’t不需要;mustn’t禁止。根据“people…wear helmets when riding e-bikes.” 可知,第二空强调安全第一,can’t be too careful“再小心也不为过”符合语境。故选B。
8.—China’s excellent culture is ______ treasure, as it helps us to know where we are from and where we’re going.

as long as只要;as good as和……一样好,good为形容词;as well as和……一样好,well为副词;as soon as一……就。根据“China’s excellent culture is…treasure”可知,此处表示“文化和财富一样好”,is后接形容词,故选B。

A.from; effects B.beyond; efforts C.through; changes D.against; attention
from来自;effects影响;beyond超出;efforts努力;through通过;changes变化;against反对;attention注意力。根据“brave enough to face any challenges far...”

Hainan gibbons are the world’s rarest primates They only live in Hainan. Their daily life begins with the male heads of the five remaining families’ high and beautiful whistling (啸叫声). It can reach villagers down in the valleys which are 800 to 1,200 meters below.
Sadly, gibbons once nearly died out. With the efforts of the researchers, their number has increased from less than 10 in two families to 35 in five families.
Although gibbons can look at people curiously from a few meters away, it’s difficult to follow the gibbons. The best way to follow the gibbons is by sound at present. Like humans, gibbons produce vocal cues. With the help of the advanced cameras, we will learn more about their lifestyle and the way they express feelings like joy, anger and sadness.
For the next six months, 11 researchers will work with other experts to study the information collected over the last year. Then they will finish a report on the voice characteristics of the gibbons, and try to explain their daily behavior.
The database (数据库) is expected to be completed in three years. It will play a major role in researching and protecting gibbons and other rare plants and animals. The project is the first of its kind in China. It’s designed to follow all major rare plants and animals in a single protected area. Researchers suggested that we can explain not only gibbons’ simple communication but also their behavior in the future because of research into Hainan gibbon protection.
The growth of Hainan gibbon population gives the whole world confidence to protect the endangered primates in the future.

One of the differences between Chinese movies and those of foreign countries is bilingual subtitles Two languages that we use as subtitles are Chinese and English. There are some reasons why Chinese movies have subtitles.
The first reason is dialect (方言). Besides Mandarin and Cantonese. China has lots of dialects. And even different provinces have different dialects. Some Chinese movies have different dialects, so they should make sure audiences can understand what they are talking about.
Second is the background music and sound effects. Unlike TV, the cinema cannot be controlled remotely (远地). Whether the background music is too loud or too small, the subtitles can make sure audiences will not be out of the play.
Third is that a deep voice or pronunciation is not clear. Some actors or actresses have a deep and low voice, which sounds good. But we can’t hear it in the heavy bass (超重低音) the theaters. So the subtitles help us to understand the lines.
Fourth, it is friendly to people who have trouble hearing. The subtitles help them to understand what actors or actresses talk about.
Fifth, there are lots of foreigners coming to China, and English is the most widely spoken language in the world. When we watch bilingual subtitles, we can learn English and we can also understand the meaning. Foreigners can use Chinese movies to learn Chinese, and the English subtitles help them understand Chinese.
37.What languages are used as subtitles in Chinese movies?
A.Mandarin and Cantonese. B.Chinese and English.
C.Chinese and dialects. D.Mandarin and dialects.
38.What does the underlined word “lines” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Dialogues. B.Pronunciations. C.Sounds. D.Languages.
39.Why do Chinese movies have bilingual subtitles?
①Because China has different dialects.
②Because of the background music and sound effects.
③Because a deep voice or pronunciation is clear.
④To help the deaf understand the movie.
⑤Because there are lots of foreigners coming to China
A.①②③④ B.①③④⑤ C.①②④⑤ D.①②③⑤
40.What is the structure of this text? (P= Paragraph)

根据“The first reason is dialect (方言).… China has lots of dialects.”、“Second is the background music and sound effects.”、“Third is that a deep voice or pronunciation is not clear.”、“Fourth, it is friendly to people who have trouble hearing.”和“Fifth, there are lots of foreigners coming to China, and English is the most widely spoken language in the world.”

Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However, changes to the body’s sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p. m. or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early.
Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a. m. 41 Here are some other advantages of later school start times:
42
When running late in the mornings, students are likely to go without breakfast. With an empty stomach, one finds it difficult to focus (集中) in class. When they are always in a hurry, students may form unhealthy eating habits.

Teens experience mood changes as a common result of this special period of life. 43 When they get enough sleep, students are calm and peaceful and their moods do not change suddenly. They’re less likely to feel worried, unhappy or get angry. For parents, children with more sleep are easier to live with.
Better performance (表现) in study
Sleep loss hurts attention, memory and brain development. Students with less sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and are likely to have lower grades. 44 They are also less likely to fall asleep in class and more able to understand what they learn.
45 It improves their chances of eating, behaving and performing better.
A.More time to sleep.
B.More time for a healthy breakfast.

Covered by snow and ice, Antarctica (南极洲) is the coldest and most mysterious continent on Earth. However, this wild place still attracts people who wish to go there.
The Antarctic is a good place to research the land, ocean, air, ice shelves and biology. The Antarctic also has rich resources including coal, fresh water and seafood.
More than 30 countries have built research stations in the Antarctic. During the past 40 years, China has built five stations: Changcheng, Zhongshan, Taishan, Kunlun and Qinling.
With annual (年度的) average temperature of -25 to-30 ℃ in the Antarctic, scientists there don’t have many choices for traveling. If the weather is good, scientists will go outside to collect samples of water, rocks and other things. But when it’s too cold or windy outside, which happens quite often, they have to stay indoors. There are all kinds of laboratories at their stations.
However, they do more than just research. The scientists there have found many ways to relax. At Zhongshan Station, for example, there is a field where they can play basketball, volleyball and badminton. Zhongshan Station is not far from stations built by Russia, India and Australia. Sometimes, people from the four stations will meet and hold big parties and sports events.
Although life in the Antarctic can be hard, people there get to learn more about the unknown world and enjoy the beauty of nature. That might be the best part of visiting the area.

Dear Simon,
I’m very glad to tell you that Chinese Spring Festival has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage. Since the main color of the festival—Chinese red attracts you very much, I’m writing to tell you something about it.
You can enjoy a lot of red things at the Spring Festival, such as red packets, red Chinese paper-cutting, red candles and so on. Many things are red because we Chinese think red can bring us good luck and happiness.
In our daily life, red is used a lot as well. If we require strength in either body or mind, we can wear red because it represents power. When we have difficulty making a decision, we can also use red because it represents strong feelings too and wearing red can make it easier to take action.
As for me, I like red a lot. On the one hand, it is the colour of heat and it can make me feel warm in winter. On the other hand, when I see the red national flag, I always feel very proud of my country and it always reminds me to work harder for my future.
I hope my letter will help you understand Chinese red well.
Yours,
Li Ping
