As we walk the “path of life”, we may sometimes wish to be alone with our own thoughts, for quiet moments of reflection (反省) can lead to personal improvement. However, when we want to be alone, we must be careful that we do not always jump into our own world. Social life is also important to all of us.
As we live in social groups, there are many benefits of friendship that we can enjoy. Generally speaking, close friendships have three “fruits”: they may comfort the heart, advise the head and help us achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Through friendship, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
The first fruit of friendship is the peace that comes from sharing with friends our joy, sadness, success and failure. Here, friendship has a double advantage—happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved! Naturally, this kind of openness results from a close friendship. We know that our friends will both respect our feelings and treasure these moments of closeness.
The second fruit of friendship is the better understanding and judgement (评判) that may be achieved through conversations with well-meaning and wise friends. We often find it easier to recognize other people’s weaknesses than our own. As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgement might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. This helps make our thoughts clearer and brings us a more thorough (彻底的) understanding of our problems.
The third fruit of friendship is the help that a friend may offer in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our “second self”. There are so many things in life that can only be achieved with the help of friends. Friends may have many different ideas and skills.
Finally, it should be pointed out that enjoying the company of a crowd is not the same as being with friends. Friends should be carefully chosen and relationships carefully developed. In this way, we can better walk the “path of life” with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends.
29.According to the passage, close friendships have a lot of “fruits” EXCEPT ________.

D.it gives us a chance to completely understand our friends’ problems
31.Which shows the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.

“Tom, we’re lost, aren’t we?” she said.
“I’m so sorry, Becky. I don’t know where we are.”
Becky fell to the ground and started to cry wildly.
Tom tried to ease her thoughts, but there was little he could do to help.
“Surely, your mother will find tonight that you haven’t come back.” he said. “She’ll send people out to look for you.”
Becky thought for a moment, and then started to cry even harder than before. “Oh, Tom. She thinks that I’m sleeping at the Harpers’ tonight. She won’t find that I’m missing until late the next morning!”
“All right, Becky. Let’s not cry. We should just keep walking. As long as we walk, there’s hope.”
So they walked with no idea where they were going. Tom, after a while, had to put out the candle in order to save it, for he only had one more in his pocket. So most of the time they walked in total darkness. Tom tried calling out for help several times, but never got any answer in return.
Some new plans had to be come up with or they would surely die.
Tom had some kite string (风筝线) in his pocket. He took it out, and tied one end to a rock, then he told Becky to sit and wait for him. Tom lit the candle again, and made his way down one of the passages (通道). He didn’t get far, when the floor in front of him suddenly dropped below. He used his arm to feel how deep the drop (落差) was. While he was feeling around, his hand touched another hand. Tom jumped back and held out his candle to see who was there. A face then appeared. It was the face of Injun Joe.

Chopsticks (or kuaizi in Chinese) are a kind of common tableware in the world, they are widely used in Asia and overseas Chinese Community. Chopsticks are also one of the symbols of Chinese food culture.
There are many stories about who may have invented them. About 3000 years ago, our ancestor called Dayu who helped people fight against floods. He was always busy and often ate in the wild. To save time, he used two branches to get the food. He found this way was more convenient than using hands. People followed him to use chopsticks to eat. In fact, the earliest chopsticks were invented more than 3,000 years old ago, dating back to the Shang Dynasty. Around 500 A.D., the use of chopsticks spread from China to some countries in Asia like Japan, Vietnam and Korea.
Chopsticks are usually 7 cun and 6 fen long. Cun and fen are Chinese units of measurement.7 cun 6 fen is about 25.3333333cm. They are round at one end and squared at the other. In ancient times, the wealthy had their chopsticks made of silver, gold, jade or other precious materials. Nowadays, they are made from different materials.
Although chopsticks are simple sticks, there is some Chinese philosophy (哲学) in them. The round end represents the sky and the squared end represents the earth. They are always used in pair which is full of Chinese best wishes. Chinese like even numbers (偶数) because pair in Chinese is a very lucky word. So a pair of chopsticks can be used as the wedding gift. It means “to have a smart baby soon”.
Meanwhile, there are some customs to use chopsticks while eating. Remember not to use chopsticks to hit the side of your bowl or plate to make a lot of noise. Never use them to point at others or to put them into rice directly. They are considered as impolite manners.

A.making our hearts peaceful B.achieving our goals with friends’ help
C.guiding our own feelings easily D.understanding our problems better
30.We can achieve better understanding by talking with wise friends because ________.
A.it is more difficult to realize other people’s weaknesses than our own
B.our judgement won’t be one-sided if we are guided only by our feelings
C.our friends are able to offer better advice on our important decisions
D.it gives us a chance to completely understand our friends’ problems
31.Which shows the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
32.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Ways of Judging Friends B.Understanding of Friendship
C.Advice on Making Friends D.Improvements of Social Life

Early on Wednesday morning, a big rocket called Long March-2F Y19 took off from Jiuquan in Northwest China. It carried three astronauts on a trip to the China Space Station.

Chopsticks are commonly used in Chinese daily life, but they are full of Chinese culture.
