Therefore, if you have a keen interest in meeting your curiosity about it, the following on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List will be a must-check list for you. Dinosaur Provincial Park, Canada The park is best known for its extensive fossil beds, within which 35 species of dinosaurs from about 100 to 65 million years ago have been identified. There are also fossilized remains of fish, reptiles, and amphibians. The area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. Salonga National Park, Congo This is the largest reserve in Congo, covering more than 14,000 square miles. The park was established in 1970. The thick forest provides habitats for various animals like parrots, elephants and monkeys. Park visitors observe the animals from motorized river boats. The park was entered into the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1984. Hadrian’s Wall, England This is a Roman barrier that guarded the border of Britain. Hadrian (ruled 117-138 CE) went to Britain in 122 and was the first to build a wall, 80 miles long, to separate the Romans from the barbarians (野蛮人). There was no intention of fighting from the wall top; the soldiers there were trained to encounter the enemy in the open. In 1987, Hadrian’s Wall was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Easter Island, Chile This place is famous for its huge stone statues. The first European visitors, the Dutch, named it Easter Island in memory of their day of arrival. The small and hilly island was formed by volcanoes. Easter Island was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1995. 1. If you want to study fossils in college, which site would you like to visit? A. Easter Island. B. Dinosaur Provincial Park. C. Hadrian’s Wall. D. Salonga National Park. 2. When was Salonga National Park entered into the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites? A. In 1995. B. In 1979. C. In 1987. D. In 1984. 3. Which place is famous for its huge stone statues? A. Easter Island. B. Dinosaur Provincial Park. C. Hadrian’s Wall. D. Salonga National Park. B 2. D 3. 根据第二段中的“The park is best known for its extensive fossil beds (这个公园以其大量的化石层而闻名)”可知,如果你对化石感兴趣,你可以去参观Dinosaur Provincial Park。 根据第三段中的“The park was entered into the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1984.(这个公园在1984年被联合国教科文组织列入世界遗产名录。) ”可知,Salonga National Park在1984年被联合国教科文组织列入世界遗产名录。故选D。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“This place is famous for its huge stone statues.(这个地方以巨大的石像而闻名。)” A。 B My first week in the United States was a cultural shock. Everything felt new to me, including the style of conversation, the community I lived in and even the type of food people ate. In our community back home, people eat mutton and chicken. Pork and beef are also common among other communities, but eating beef is taken as an illegal act. Unlike Nepal, eating beef is common in the West where most of the people follow religions other than Hinduism. Food is just an example. When people move from one part of the world to another, they should adapt(适应)themselves to the new culture. For example, going to the bars or getting drunk is not acceptable in my community, but it is common in the US after a certain age. I was raised in a traditional Hindu family in Nepal. We have a conservative(保守的,谨慎的)opinion towards marriage. Arranged marriages(包办婚姻)are common in which families decide whether the two should get married. Free love marriages are not allowed and are seldom seen. Same-sex marriage is also considered impossible. To me, culture is a matter of habit. The culture is so deep-rooted in people’s minds that most people are against changes. It is always easy for them to do what they have been doing throughout their life. It may be difficult for anyone to adapt to a new culture. However, with travel being an unavoidable thing for modern people, one always comes across different cultures. In such cases, one should be respectful and adaptive to the culture other people follow. The world is always a better place to live in when we have spaces for people of all cultures. 4. What does the Nepal law forbid people to eat? A. Pork. B. Beef. C. Chicken. D. Mutton. 5. What can we learn from the passage? A. Most westerners believe in Hinduism. B. Getting drunk in Nepal is acceptable. C. Anyone can enter the bars in the US. D. The writer came across a cultural shock. 6. Which may be seen most in Nepal? A. Open marriages. B. Free love marriages. C. Same-sex marriage. D. Arranged marriages. 7. What is the writer’s attitude to different cultures? A. Negative. B. Respectful. C. Conservative. D. Indifferent. B 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第二段…eating beef is taken as an illegal act可知,选B。 Arranged marriages are common in which families decide whether the two should get married. 根据文章最后一段话with travel being an unavoidable thing for modern people, one always comes across different cultures. In such cases, one should be respectful and adaptive to the culture other people follow. The world is always a better place to live in when we have spaces for people of all cultures. B。 C You don’t generally expect to put yourself in the public eye when you go on vacation. However, when a British couple, Jessica and Edward, flew to Crete, they found themselves attracting a lot of attention after coming across a large sum of money in the street. At first, their Crete vacation hadn’t been anything outside of the norm. However, it was as they were exploring the souvenir shops that everything changed. The pair were just walking down the street when Jessica suddenly kicked something lying on the ground. It looked a bit like a makeup bag and so they assumed that someone had lost it. Without hesitation, Jessica picked up the bag and opened it. She was shocked to see a lot of money in it — a total of 7, 100 Euros. There was probably a lot they could do with all that money. However, the couple didn’t have it in them to steal what belonged to someone else. Going to the police was the first thought that came to mind when Jessica saw the money. She didn’t consider that there was any other option, so the pair handed over the money to the local police. The police found the owner, an elderly woman, and informed the couple that the woman wanted to meet them. When they eventually met at the police station, the woman was so overcome with emotion that she wouldn’t stop hugging and blessing the couple, although the couple insisted they were just doing the right thing. News of what the British couple had done quickly made its way around the island. The locals wanted to show them their gratitude. This included receiving free taxi rides and even an offer to have their hotel room upgraded. The pair appreciated their kindness, but it was all getting to be a bit too much. They just wanted to have a normal vacation. The couple is probably hoping that they fly a little more under the radar during their next vacation. There’s only so much attention that these two love birds can deal with. 8. What did the couple do after they found the money? A. They decided to keep it. B. They spent it on souvenirs. C. They tried to look for the owner. D. They turned it over to the police. 9. Which of the following can best describe the locals in Crete? A. Rich and generous. B. Sociable and energetic. C. Kind and grateful. D. Honest and determined. 10. What does the underlined part “fly a little more under the radar” in the last paragraph mean? A. Take more flights. B. Gain less attention. C. Have more fun. D. Spend less money. 11. What can we learn from the text? A. No pain, no gain. B. Less money, less trouble. C. It pays to be good to others. D. Behind bad luck comes good luck. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第三段中“Going to the police was the first thought that came to mind when Jessica saw the money. She didn’t consider that there was any other option, so the pair handed over the money to the local police. (看到钱的那一刻,杰西卡的第一反应就是报警。她觉得除此之外别无选择,于是两人便把这笔钱交给了当地警方。)”可知,这对夫妇找到钱后把它交给了警察。故选D。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“The locals wanted to show them their gratitude. This included receiving free taxi rides and even an offer to have their hotel room upgraded. (当地人纷纷想要向他们表达谢意,不仅为他们提供免费的出租车服务,甚至主动提出为他们升级酒店房间。)”可推断,克里特岛的当地人很善良和且有感恩之心。故选C。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段中“The pair appreciated their kindness, but it was all getting to be a bit too much. They just wanted to have a normal vacation. (夫妇俩很感激大家的好意,但这样的关注实在让他们有些招架不住——他们只是想安安稳稳地度过一个寻常假期而已。)”及最后一段“There’s only so much attention that these two love birds can deal with. (毕竟,这对恩爱的小两口可招架不住这么多的关注。)”可知,夫妇俩的善举在岛上传开后,他们得到了很多关注,甚至觉得这种关注“有点过头”,只想过一个普通的假期。因此可推测“fly a little more under the radar”的意思为“获得较少的关注”。 C。 D After traveling through space for seven months, China’s Tianwen-1 has reached Mars and successfully entered the planet’s orbit on Wednesday—bringing it one step closer to landing on the surface. Tianwen-1, which got its name from an antient Chinese poem, is made up of an orbiter, lander and a six-wheeled rover (巡视器) carrying scientific instruments, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The CNSA said the probe is expected to land on the planet’s surface in May or June, and the rover is expected to stay for three months, with the hope that it can gather important information about Mars’ geological structure, atmosphere, environment and soil, and search for any signs of water. Tianwen-1 was launched last July, and its arrival in the Mars’s orbit makes China the sixth country in history to reach Mars. So far, the United States and the former Soviet Union are the only two countries to land a spacecraft on the surface of Mars. But the European Space Agency and India have already sent spacecraft to enter the planet’s orbit—and on Tuesday, the UAE joined their ranks, with its Hope Probe successfully entering orbit. With Tianwen-1, China is the first nation to attempt sending both an orbiter and a rover on its first Mars mission on its own. According to the scientific team behind the mission, the probe will “orbit, land and release a rover all on the very first try, and carry out experiments with an orbiter”. By contrast, NASA sent multiple orbiters to Mars before ever attempting a landing, since pulling off the landing is a far more difficult task. China’s first attempt to reach Mars was actually in 2011 with the Yinghuo-1 probe, which was supposed to orbit the red planet and study its environmental structure. It was launched from Kazakhstan together with the Russian Phobos-Grunt mission in November that year. 12. What can we know about Tianwen-1? A. It has been on the Mars orbit for seven months. B. It was named after a famous ancient Chinese poet. C. Its rover will work for three months upon landing. D. It will gather information about creatures on Mars. 13. Which of the following countries has already put a spacecraft on Mars? A. India. B. China. C. The UAE. D. The United States. 14. Which statement is true about China’s Mars exploration? A. China is the first country to send orbiter to Mars. B. China’s first attempt to reach Mars happened in 2012. C. China once did research on Mars’ environmental structure. D. China is the sixth country to reach Mars followed by the USA. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Is Mars Exploration Worth the Investment? B. China’s Tianwen-1 Closer to Landing on Mars C. Mars: the Final Front Line of Space Exploration D. Recent Theories Show Evidence of Life on Mars 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第三段第一句的 “The CNSA said the probe is expected to land on the planet’s surface in May or June, and the rover is expected to stay for three months(中国国家航天局表示,探测器预计将于5月或6月在火星表面着陆,探测器预计将停留三个月)”可知,天问一号在火星着陆后将工作三个月。 根据第四段第二句“So far, the United States and the former Soviet Union are the only two countries to land a spacecraft on the surface of Mars.(到目前为止,美国和前苏联是仅有的两个航天器在火星表面着陆的国家。)” 根据最后一段第一句“China’s first attempt to reach Mars was actually in 2011 with the Yinghuo-1 probe, which was supposed to orbit the red planet and study its environmental structure.(中国首次尝试登陆火星实际上是在2011年发射的“火星一号”探测器,该探测器本应围绕这颗红色星球运行,并研究其环境结构。)” 根据文章第一段“After traveling through space for seven months, China’s Tianwen-1 has reached Mars and successfully entered the planet’s orbit on Wednesday—bringing it one step closer to landing on the surface.(在太空飞行了七个月后,中国的“天问一号”于周三抵达火星并成功进入轨道,离着陆火星表面又近了一步。)” 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) How to Adjust to a New School School is a base for students, where they learn to succeed. ____16____ When you go to a new school, you might worry that you don’t know anyone. A. difficult困难的;B. special特殊的;C. normal正常的;D. similar相似的。根据下文“In India, people nod and shake their heads in different ways according to where they come from. A. explaining解释;B. admitting承认;C. proving证明;D. announcing宣告。根据下文“They responded with many different nods and shakes of the heads. 故选A项。 A. realized意识到;B. hoped希望;C. showed展示;D. pretended假装。根据上文“He guessed some people had not understood, so he explained again. When he asked again if they understood, they did the same thing. 故选A项。 A. read out读出;B. let out发出(声音);C. figure out弄清楚;D. point out指出。根据上文“In India, people nod and shake their heads in different ways according to where they come from. Fifty years ago, China successfully launched its first satellite, Dongfanghong 1, and started ____36____ new chapter (篇章) in space exploration. Andy and his brother Berlin were filled with excitement as they thought of visiting their grandparents again. The big day came at last. After the happy family got ready, they set out for the grandparents’ eagerly. On the way, the brothers were excitedly talking about the fun they had with grandparents. A little blue house with a tall white chimney finally appeared. Behind the house was the forest carrying their good memories with Grandpa. They arrived at the driveway, at the end of which Grandma was waiting for them joyfully. Andy and Berlin each gave Grandma a big hug and then swept to the living room, shouting excitedly “Grandpa, we are back!” Seeing his grandsons, Grandpa was wild with joy and tried to get up with all his strength from the chair but in vain. A helpless expression flashed on his face. Grandma explained that his health was declining rapidly and maybe couldn’t stand up on his own forever. But Grandpa declared stubbornly (倔强地), “I can!” Certainly, he was stuck in his boyish way. Mum and grandparents were happy to meet again after a long time. They sat together and chatted about what happened recently. The brothers were soon bored with adult conversation, went out and wandered into the forest. Tall trees stretched up to the heavens with large branches crossing each other, while young ones rose straight like soldiers. Grandpa was once an intelligent explorer. He could tell where the birds came from only by their calls and songs. The trees, birds, lizards, lots of bugs… How many merry moments they spent with Grandpa in the kingdom! But now Grandpa couldn’t get up. This made them worried. “We’d think out a way to cheer him up.” Andy said. “Grandpa is a bird lover, and we can catch him a bird.” Berlin suggested. “But he hates birds being caged!” Andy shook his head. Then a bright idea came to Andy’s mind. “Why not make a cane (拐杖) out of a young tree!” Berlin thought it was a good idea. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Andy and Berlin handed the cane to Grandpa. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Berlin thought it was a good idea. With the tools fetched from the backyard, they returned to the forest to search for an appropriate young tree for a cane. Hardly had they selected one when they got started with their BIG PROJECT. Andy, the elder brother, took on the job of cutting it down, while Berlin, who was younger and more creative, was responsible for decoration. Hard as it might seem to them, they never thought about quitting. After what seemed a long time, an elegant and tough cane appeared. Both of them were more than satisfied with their work and couldn’t wait to rush home. Andy and Berlin handed the cane to Grandpa. The instant he saw it, he knew what it was all about. Deeply touched by the grandsons’ gift, he took it with great excitement and tapped it on the ground several times. Obviously, he attempted to stand up with it. With the encouragement of the two brothers, he struggled to get up, slowly walking towards the forest. A cheerful and joyful expression, which Andy and Berlin had expected of Grandpa, flashed on his face. It was at that moment that they literally felt all the efforts to make the cane were all worth it. 词类激活 行为类 ①挑选:select/pick up ②放弃:quit/give up ③试图做某事:attempt to do/make an attempt to do 情绪类 ①满意:satisfied/content ②兴奋:excitement/thrill 【点睛】【高分句型1】Andy, the elder brother, took on the job of cutting it down, while Berlin, who was younger and more creative, was responsible for decoration. A. In 1979. C. In 1987. D. In 1984. 3. Which place is famous for its huge stone statues? A. Easter Island. B. Dinosaur Provincial Park. C. Hadrian’s Wall. D. Salonga National Park. B My first week in the United States was a cultural shock. C You don’t generally expect to put yourself in the public eye when you go on vacation. D After traveling through space for seven months, China’s Tianwen-1 has reached Mars and successfully entered the planet’s orbit on Wednesday—bringing it one step closer to landing on the surface. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
