第四部分 写作(共两节, 满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)
Dear David,
I’m sorry to hear that you had an argument with your mom over computer game and that you’ re feeling upset about it. It’s completely understandable to feel this way. Here are a couple of suggestions that might help.
Firstly, apologize to your mom and have an honest communication with her who deeply cares about your health. Secondly, it would be wise to balance between your study and leisure time, which will show her that you are responsible and can properly manage your time.
Remember your mom loves you and wants the best for you. I believe you can work things out together.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
To my surprise, Ashley insisted on reporting the “Deerfield Stole Perry” story. “This is the very story we need to attract more readers,” she argued. To convince her, I defended that if we wrote this article, we would be telling a lie. Noticing her hesitant expression, I further explained the potential harm it would cause to the player and our, paper ‘s reputation. After some discussion, Ashley finally gave in, “OK, let’s try with real stories.“ Then I went to gather all the necessary information to write an article about Perry and the precious memories we shared over the years.
On Thursday, the paper came out with the headline “Bye-Bye, Perry” on the front page. Soon, it sparked heated discussions among students about Perry. Many were disappointed with Perry’s sudden departure, but were comforted by the fact that he was in good care. The story also evoked sweet memories of Perry. Some students even requested to share their stories of him in our paper! Seeing the story’s success, Ashley came to me and said sincerely, “You are right! It’s a good story.” Her words brought me a great sense of fulfillment. Indeed, true stories might not always draw attention, but they have the power to touch and connect.

Celebrate the natural world and win prizes!
Planet Earth is a beautiful, wonderful and amazing place. From the highest mountains to the deepest oceans, via tropical rainforests, deserts and your local park, there is a wide variety of landscapes, plants, animals, and insects to enjoy.
Now, with STABILO, The Week Junior is asking our readers to design a poster that celebrates the natural world and write a pledge (誓言) to protect Planet Earth. The winning designs will be shown in our magazine and also win prizes!
The competition is inspired by Earth Day, which takes place on 22 April each year. It is a time to celebrate the planet and also to reflect on how we can better protect it. So we are asking readers to think about what their favourite things from the natural world are and then draw them! This could be anything from a huge elephant to a tiny bee, or a scene from a forest or under the sea. You could also draw your favourite place ---- whether it is a beach, a park or a garden. Then write a short pledge to say how you intend to protect the Earth.
We can’t wait to see your drawings and read your pledges. Good luck!
Instructions
On a piece of paper, draw your poster that celebrates the natural world. Then on a different piece of paper, write your pledge to the planet.
Once you have completed your drawing, ask an adult to take a photo and send your entry (参赛作品) to: theweekjunior.co.uk/stabilocomp (but please only send in one entry per person).
The competition closes on 17 May 2025.

Liu Yang, a professor at the School of Ecology at Sun Yat-sen University, is one of the country’s most accomplished bird-watchers, and has a sight-list of about 1,330 species.
Since childhood, Liu has been keen on studying the nests of house swifts, an interest that aroused his love for nature and biodiversity. During high school in 1994, he started his birdwatching journey. While others were attracted by collecting stamps or matchboxes, Liu was attracted by the unique characteristics of each bird. Hence, observing and identifying all the birds he saw and keeping a record, which is also known as a “life list”, became his “small goal”.
Combining bird- watching with science always excites Liu. In the summer of 2008, while collecting research samples at the Beishan National Farm in the Huzhu Tu autonomous county in Haidong city in Qinghai province, he came across birds that looked similar to the Red-flanked Bluetail, a species that normally appears in the spring and autumn. Surprisingly, they were breeding. This discovery challenged what people knew. Liu and his team collected and analyzed DNA and acoustic(声学的) samples, leading to the recognition of two additional species, the Qilian Bluetail and the Taiwan Bush Robin.
Beyond his research, Liu Yang also places great importance on popular science. “Scientific research and popular science should not be seen as separate fields,” he explains. “Research questions come from looking closely at nature and life, and the findings should be shared with the public in a way that is easy to understand.” Besides writing bird guides, LiuYang is active in sharing his knowledge. He gives lectures and helps in different bird- watching programs. His main goal is to create a benefit for both people and birds.
Liu praises the increasing number of data collected by bird- watchers.“ Many bird- watchers not only observe birds but also photograph them, using their cameras to document the birds “status and behavior, which plays an important role in protection,” he says.
24. What inspired Liu Yang’s love for nature and biodiversity?
A. Watching and identifying all the birds.
B. Recording the unique characteristics of each bird.
C. Studying the nests of house swifts in childhood.
D. Collecting stamps and matchboxes in high school.
25. What can we learn about Liu Yang’s 2008 discovery?
A. It was made in spring.
B. It confirmed the known research findings.
C. It led to the discovery of the Red-flanked Bluetail.
D. It was based on DNA and acoustic sample analysis.
26. Why is Liu Yang active in sharing his knowledge?
A. Because he needs to sell his field guides and books.
B. Because he wants to help bird-watchers collect more data.
C. Because he hopes to train more professional bird researchers.
D. Because he tries to create a win-win situation for both people and birds.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. China’s Top Bird Lovers.
B. Bird-watching and Book-selling.
C. New Bird Species Found in China.

Little kids are much more likely to remember a thing that is unimaginable to them, a team reports in the journal PNAS.
Feigenson, an expert at Johns Hopkins University and Aimee Stahl of The College of New Jersey did an experiment that included 335 2-and 3-year-olds. “We wanted to know how little kids think about possibilities,” Feigenson says.
Their first challenge was getting the attention of kids that young, so the scientists designed a special machine filled with toys. It turns out that the chance to put a little coin in a machine and get a prize is a drive to kids. When the little kids got a toy from the machine, the scientists told them it had a made-up name: Blick. Later, they were asked to point to the Blick among many toys. When the little kids knew the transparent(透明的) machine held Blicks, they were unsurprised by their prize and usually forgot its name. This was true even when the machine had only one or two Blicks among lots of other toys.
But the little kids behaved very differently when they got a Blick from a machine that appeared to have none, a seemingly impossible thing. “Often, “kids’ eyes get wide, and their mouths open, and they look at their mom in surprise that this has happened,” Feigenson says. Moreover, when little kids met this completely unexpected result, they usually remembered the Blick’s name. They are really driven to learn.
The results further prove that even very young children learn better when they meet the unexpected, says Andrew Shtulman, an expert at Occidental College. “It causes a level of surprise that leads to more attention, better understanding of the things, and better continuous attention of those things later on,” he adds, “If you want children to learn something deeply and for a long time, you go against their expectations before introducing that information.”
28. What does the experiment focus on?
A. Little kids’ imagination. B. Little kids’ rememberance.
C. Little kids’ curiosity about learning. D. Little kids’ behaviour to possibilities.
29. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in paragraph 3?
A. They had no interest in the result. B. They had no confidence in winning.
C. They had difficulty in concentrating. D. They did well in telling the difference.
30. How did little kids find the machine without Blicks?
A. They were amazed. B. They were annoyed.
C. They were satisfied. D. They were frightened.
31. What is Andrew Shtulman’s suggestion on children’s learning?
A. Offer information directly. B. Teach them as they expect.
C. Provide more teaching methods. D. Surprise the kids to learn better.
D
Have you ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why you came into it in the first place? I couldn’t agree more when I read an article from Live Science that stated “There are several types of memories, and the brain has a unique way of forgetting each kind.” Memory does some funny things. While forgetting is a normal and vital part of our brain function, we have to admit that memory can be a mysterious and naughty joker. One of the most common mysteries is a short-term memory failure where people find themselves entering a room with no memory of why they did so.
Everyone has experienced this at least once in their lives. We call it a “senior moment”, but researchers say it’s actually okay to put the blame(责备) on our doorways and not on our ageing brains. The act of walking through a doorway sends a signal to our brains that a new scene has started and that previous memories should be put away. This is what causes our memory failure and confusion. The thoughts we had before we entered that new scene have actually been sectionalized(分区). In an interview with Live Science Gabriel Radvansky, a psychologist at the University of Norte Dame said, “Entering or exiting through a doorway serves as an ‘event boundary’ in the mind.”
I find this amazing, as I watch it happen to people all around me every day. I guess I should stop telling them they’re getting old and actually explain the cause. For me it’s not doorways that cause a problem. It’s flights of stairs. Every so often I find myself going up the stairs and forgetting why I did so just as soon as I’ve reached the landing. What’s up with that? Now if I can only find out what that means, I’d be truly fascinated.
32. What contributes to our “senior moment” according to the researchers?
A. Ageing brains. B. Doorways.
C. Different moments. D. The same scenes.
33. Which of the following is Radvansky likely to agree with?
A. Walking through a doorway makes us nervous in the mind.
B. Sectionalized thoughts disappear when we enter a new scene.
C. Too many events in life are harmful to our brain memory.
D. Exiting through doorways causes short memory failures.
34. What may confuse the author?
A. Whether he should explain the cause to others.
B. How much he was fascinated by science.
C. How many people suffer from doorway problems.
D. Why going up the stairs makes him forgetful.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Short Memory Failures Do Have Scientific Reasons.
B. Doorways Affect Our Long-Term Memory.
C. Different Types of Memories and Forgetting Ways.
D. Tips to Avoid Forgetting Why You Enter a Room.

In our weekly staff meeting, our editor Ashley was not pleased with the quality of our reporting. “Our readership is way down. We need better stories for this Thursday’s school newspaper. Does anybody have any ideas?” she said.
I handed her my article about our basketball team beating Deerfield High School the previous night by one point. “Sports stories are fun,” she said, “but not good enough for the front page. We need something to really get people ‘s attention.”
After our meeting, we left the newsroom together and heard someone screaming, “Perry is missing!” Perry was a big red parrot and had been our school mascot(吉祥物) for ten years. He played an important role in students’ lives, both in and out of class. He had also been a constant presence at school events, inspiring a sense of unity among students.
Everyone gathered around Perry’s empty cage, heartbroken. Suddenly, a student from the crowd came over and showed me a photo. “You’re a reporter for the school paper, right? I happened to take this yesterday,” he said. In the photo was a Deerfield High School basketball player with something large hidden under his shirt around the size of a parrot.
“He must have stolen Perry to get back at us for winning the game!” Ashley cried. We hurried back to the newsroom, agreeing to run the photo on the front page with the headline “Deerfeld Stole Perry.” “This is just the story we need. Everyone will read it,” Ashley said confidently.
After she left, I took a closer look at the photo. The clock in the background read 4:15 pm, but our game against Deerfield hadn’t started until 4:30 pm. Why would the boy have taken Perry before we even played? An uneasy feeling came over me that we might have falsely accused someone.
I went to Perry’s usual caretaker to ask if he knew Perry was missing. ”He’s not missing. He’s retired. He’s ready for some quieter days,“ he said. Learning the truth, I immediately told Ashley and suggested writing a story to say goodbye to Perry.

18. Where did the speaker hear traditional music for the first time?
A. From local bands. B. From his friends. C. From his family.
19. Which part of the world is the speaker from?
A. Asia. B. Africa. C. Europe.
20. What did the speaker feel proudest for?
A. Touring the world. B. Winning many awards. C. Playing a concert in her village.
【答案】18. A 19. B 20. C
【原文】
M: I often say that music gave me the life I have today. I couldn’t have become a professional musician without being introduced to music. As a child, I started dancing, singing and playing music at age three. I’ll never forget hearing traditional music for the first time at a concert by local bands. We didn’t have many activities while growing up in a small village in central Africa, so music was life for my friends and family. Our country is poorer than nations in Asia and Europe, but we are rich in art and music. I wanted to show this idea to the world, so I brought traditional music from villages to cities and then from Africa to America. As an adult, I spent twenty years touring the world with my band. We’ve won awards and seen amazing places, but my proudest moment was returning to my village to play a concert there. Now I live in Africa again and I’ve returned to inspire others to follow their love for music.

D. From Bird-Watcher to Scientific Explorer.
【答案】24. C 25. D 26. D 27. D
【语篇导读】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要介绍了中山大学生态学院教授刘阳的观鸟经历和科研成就,以及他对科普的重视。
24.细节理解题。根据第二段“Since childhood, Liu has been keen on studying the nests of house swifts, an interest that aroused his love for nature and biodiversity.(刘阳从小就热衷于研究雨燕的巢,这种兴趣激发了他对自然和生物多样性的热爱。)”可知,刘阳童年时研究雨燕的巢激发了他对自然和生物多样性的热爱。故选C。
25. 细节理解题。根据第三段“Liu and his team collected and analyzed DNA and acoustic (声学的) samples, leading to the recognition of two additional species, the Qilian Bluetail and the Taiwan Bush Robin.(刘阳及其团队收集并分析了 DNA 样本与声学样本,最终确认了另外两个新物种——祁连山蓝尾鸲与台湾林鸲。)”可知,刘阳2008年的发现是基于DNA和声学样本分析的。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段“Besides writing bird guides, Liu Yang is active in sharing his knowledge. He gives lectures and helps in different bird- watching programs. His main goal is to create a benefit for both people and birds.(除了编写鸟类指南外,刘阳还积极分享他的知识。他举办讲座并参与不同的观鸟项目。他的主要目标是为人类和鸟类创造利益。)”可知,刘阳积极分享他的知识是因为他试图为人类和鸟类创造一个双赢的局面。故选D。
27.主旨大意题。文章主要介绍了刘阳从小对观鸟感兴趣,后来在观鸟过程中取得了科研成就,还积极进行科普,所以标题可以是“从观鸟者到科学探索者”。故选D。

【语篇导读】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了Feigenson和Aimee Stahl做的一个关于儿童对可能性的认知和记忆的实验,以及实验结果对于儿童学习方式的启示。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段““We wanted to know how little kids think about possibilities,” Feigenson says.(费根森说:“我们想知道小孩子是如何看待各种可能性的”)”可知,这个实验主要关注的是孩子们对可能性的认知和记忆。故选D。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段“When the little kids got a toy from the machine, the scientists told them it had a made-up name: Blick. Later, they were asked to point to the Blick among many toys. When the little kids knew the transparent (透明的) machine held Blicks, they were unsurprised by their prize and usually forgot its name.(当孩子们从机器里拿到一个玩具时,科学家们告诉他们这个玩具有一个虚构的名字:Blick。之后,他们被要求在许多玩具中指出Blick。当孩子们知道透明的机器里装着Blick时,他们对奖品并不感到惊讶,而且通常会忘记它的名字)”可知,从一个透明机器里拿到Blick时孩子们似乎对奖品并不感兴趣,结合even表示递进关系可知,划线词所在句子指“即使这台机器在许多其他玩具中只有一两个Blick,他们对结果也不感兴趣”。故this指的是“他们对结果不感兴趣”。故选A。
30.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段““Often, “kids’ eyes get wide, and their mouths open, and they look at their mom in surprise that this has happened,” Feigenson says.(费根森说,通常情况下,“孩子们会睁大眼睛,张大嘴巴,惊讶地看着妈妈。”)”可知,孩子们发现没有Blick的机器时,他们感到惊讶,故选A。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段“The results further prove that even very young children learn better when they meet the unexpected, says Andrew Shtulman, an expert at Occidental College. “It causes a level of surprise that leads to more attention, better understanding of the things, and better continuous attention of those things later on,” he adds, “If you want children to learn something deeply and for a long time, you go against their expectations before introducing that information.”(西方学院的专家Andrew Shtulman说,研究结果进一步证明,即使是很小的孩子,在遇到意外情况时也能学得更好。他补充说:“它会引起一定程度的惊讶,从而导致更多的注意力,更好地理解事物,并在以后更好地持续关注这些事物。如果你想让孩子们长期深入地学习一些东西,那么在介绍这些信息之前,你不顺着他们的期望。”)”可知,Andrew Shtulman的建议是给孩子惊讶,让他们学得更好。故选D。

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. D 35. A
【语篇导读】本文是说明文。文章主要讲述大脑会短暂的失忆不是年龄大的原因,它有科学的解释。
32.细节理解题。根据第二段“We call it a “senior moment”, but researchers say it’s actually okay to put the blame (责备) on our doorways and not on our ageing brains.(我们将其称作“一瞬间的老年糊涂(大脑突然短路、犯糊涂的瞬间)”,但研究人员表示,实际上把原因归咎于门道(指经过门口这个行为或场景),而非我们日渐衰老的大脑,也是说得通的。)”可知,作者认为我们有“一瞬间的老年糊涂”的原因在于门道。故选B。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段“Entering or exiting through a doorway serves as an ‘event boundary’ in the mind.(穿过门口进出的时候是作为大脑的“边界事件”服务的。)”可知,在Gabriel Radvansky看来,从门口出来的时候会出现短暂的失忆。故选D。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段“For me it’s not doorways that cause a problem. It’s flights of stairs.(对我来说,不是门口的问题,而是楼梯的问题。)”可知,让作者困惑的是别人是进出门口的时候会暂时失忆,而他是上楼梯时会暂时失忆。故选D。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Have you ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why you came into it in the first place? I couldn’t agree more when I read an article from Live Science that stated “There are several types of memories, and the brain has a unique way of forgetting each kind.”(你是否有过走进一个房间,却完全忘了自己原本进来是要做什么的经历?当我读到《生活科学》(Live Science)上的一篇文章称“记忆有几种类型,而大脑遗忘每种记忆的方式都独具特色”时,我深有同感。)”可知,本文主要讲述大脑会短暂的失忆不是年龄大的原因,它有科学的解释。因此最恰当的题目是A选项“Short Memory Failures Do Have Scientific Reasons.(短期记忆故障确实有科学原因。)”故选A。

D. From Bird-Watcher to Scientific Explorer.

B. How much he was fascinated by science.
C. How many people suffer from doorway problems.
D. Why going up the stairs makes him forgetful.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?

1.续写词数应为150左右:

To my surprise, Ashley insisted on reporting the “Deerfield Stole Perry” story.
