The “Father of the National Park System,” John Muir was an influential writer, naturalist, and environmentalist during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in 1838 in Dunbar, Scotland, he moved to the United States with his family and was attracted by the land. He was a prize-winning inventor, but it’s his love for wild places and absolute devotion to protecting them that we remember him for.
As a young man, he explored the North American continent by foot, walking thousands of miles until he eventually settled in California. There, he fell in love with Yosemite Valley and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His article series, “Studies in the Sierra,” put his name on the map and launched a prolific writing career, with over 300 articles and 10 books published. A true mountain man, he encouraged everyone to “climb the mountains and get their good tidings”.
His writings inspired presidents, congressmen, and average citizens to care about nature. In 1890, due in large part to a series of articles he published in Century magazine, U. S. Congress created Yosemite National Park. Muir was also involved in the creation of the Sequoia, Mount Rainier, Petrified Forest, and Grand Canyon National Parks, thus earning his title.
But his work didn’t stop there: in 1892, Muir and his supporters founded the Sierra Club to “do something for wildness and make the mountains glad.” In 1901, he published the book “Our National Parks” and caught the attention of President Theodore Roosevelt, who visited him at Yosemite. During that visit, they laid the foundation of Roosevelt’s groundbreaking protection programs.
Muir died in 1914, but his memory lives on, continuing to inspire new generations of environmentalist everywhere.
4. What contributed to Muir’s writing career?
A. His love for wild places. B. His work as an environmentalist.
C. His devotion to national parks. D. His exploration of American continents.
5. Which can best explain the underlined word “prolific” in Paragraph 2?
A. Full-time. B. Normal. C. Productive. D. High-paying.
6. What can we know from paragraph 3?
A. Muir’s articles earned him his title.
B. Muir inspired people to visit national parks.
C. Muir appealed for the protection of national parks.
D. Muir’s articles had an influence on official decision.
7. Which words can best describe Muir?
A. Honest and courageous. B. Adventurous and committed.
C. Determined and humorous. D. Generous and inspiring.

With a gentle lift of the hands, a slow rise of the body and a steady bend of the knees, Tai Chi, or Taijiquan, has been practiced for centuries by people of all ages and backgrounds. Originating in ancient China and with almost 400 years of history, it is characterized by slow, graceful movements paired with deep breathing and mindfulness. Today, Taijiquan is a familiar sight in parks and public squares around the world and a celebrated part of international sporting events such as the World Games, World University Games and World Wushu Championships.
On November 5, UNESCO approved a resolution designating March 21 as International Taijiquan Day. The choice of date is highly symbolic. March 21 marks around the time of the spring equinox (春分), one of the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar, when day and night are of equal length. This balance mirrors the principles of yin-yang balance and harmonious coexistence in Taijiquan.
According to UNESCO, the new international day is expected to boost the popularization and international exchange of Taijiquan and promote its ideas of “balance between yin and yang” “pursuit of peace” “harmonious coexistence” “mutual respect” and “overcoming strength with gentleness”, so as to foster exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations and contribute to world peace.
“The committee has been promoting the ‘youthful, fashionable, digital, and international transformation of Taijiquan, enabling it to develop from an ancient cultural legacy into a source of spiritual nourishment and a bridge connecting traditional practice with modern life,” Jiang Jiding, Director of the Taijiquan Special Committee, said. “Taking this opportunity, we should further advance the internationalization of Taijiquan, so it can function as a bridge for dialogue between Chinese and foreign civilizations.”
With Taijiquan spreading to millions of enthusiasts worldwide, the practice has fostered curiosity and commitment across various communities. Li Shuangling working in Chen Bing Taiji Academy said many foreigners practice Taijiquan to ease physical discomfort or to explore aspects of Chinese culture. “After sticking with the practice, they discover it brings significant benefits to both their physical and mental well-being, which in turn inspires more people around them to learn Taijiquan.”
“The establishment of International Taijiquan Day reflects this growing global enthusiasm,” Zhang Shunli, president of the China Taijiquan Association, said. “Taijiquan is not only a physical exercise, but, more importantly, a practice for harmony and peaceful state of mind.”
8. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A. Taijiquan has more than 400 years of history.
B. Taijiquan is a graceful practice with global popularity.
C. Taijiquan is a competitive sport in the Olympic Games.
D. Taijiquan has recently been popular among young people.
9. Why was March 21 chosen as International Taijiquan Day?
A. Because spring is best for practice.
B. Because it matches Taijiquan’s core philosophy.
C. Because it is the anniversary of Taijiquan’s creation.
D. Because it is an important traditional Chinese festival.
10. Why are Jiang Jiding’s remarks quoted in the passage?
A. To introduce Taijiquan’s history as an ancient cultural legacy.
B. To explain the functions of the Taijiquan Special Committee.
C. To show government’s comprehensive support for Taijiquan.
D. To show Taijiquan’s development and vitality in the new era.
11. What do Li Shuangling and Zhang Shunli both agree with?
A. Foreigners are key to Taijiquan’s global spread.
B. Taijiquan can effectively ease physical discomfort.
C. Taijiquan’s significance goes beyond physical exercise.
D. International Taijiquan Day is crucial for cultural exchange.

In the age of AI, worries about its impact on the environment are snowballing. For example, asking ChatGPT a question uses ten times more energy than an old-fashioned search. The development of AI has also caused a big increase in greenhouse-gas emissions (排放). Google’s emissions went up nearly 50% from 2019 to 2023. However, these concerns might be overstated. In fact, AI may be less energy-hungry than many people assume.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that the electricity used by data centres could become three times as much within five years. But at present, the 1.5% of global electricity consumption related to data centres mainly comes from things like streaming, social media and online shopping. Moreover, some of AI’s electricity use will help with greening the economy. AI is already helping improve the efficiency of electrical grids (电网), cut fuel use in shipping and spot invisible leaks of greenhouse gas.
Policymakers and industry leaders face the task of maximizing AI’s advantages while minimizing its climate effects. The best way would be for governments to set a proper price for carbon and let the market operate. But because a global carbon price remains a distant dream, focusing on other three measures are more down-to-earth.
The first is more openness. Starting in August 2026, the EU will require some AI developers to report how much energy they use in detail. That approach should be copied elsewhere. A second is to rethink how data centers operate. The IEA notes that being able to shift workloads between different data centers at different times could reduce stress and help balance energy grids. Third, technology companies must keep their promises about protecting the environment instead of depending on buying renewable-energy credits.
Committing more to such approaches would help transform AI from climate suspect to climate hero.
12. What is the main concern about AI?
A. Its inability to reduce emissions. B. Its impact on social development.
C. Its high-level energy consumption. D. Its shock on old-fashioned search.
13. What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A. AI’s environmental-friendly potential remains tested.
B. AI has a minor role in the current electricity consumption.
C. The process of AI detecting gas leaking is easy to achieve.
D. AI is currently the most effective way to reduce emissions.
14. Which solution is more realistic to minimize AI’s climate effects?
A. Reconsidering data center operations. B. Allowing the market to operate.
C. Purchasing renewable-energy credits. D. Fixing a proper price for carbon.
15. Which of the following is the best title for text?
A. AI and Climate: A Battle of Balancing. B. Climate: A victim or a Beneficiary of AI?
C. AI’s next target: Environmental Protection. D. AI: A Threat or a contributor to the Climate?
C 13. B 14. A 15. D
根据第一段“For example, asking ChatGPT a question uses ten times more energy than an old-fashioned search. The development of AI has also caused a big increase in greenhouse-gas emissions (排放) (例如,向ChatGPT询问一个问题比传统搜索多消耗十倍的能量。人工智能的发展也导致了温室气体排放的大幅增加)”可知,人们主要担心AI的高能耗问题。故选C项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that the electricity used by data centres could become three times as much within five years. But at present, the 1.5% of global electricity consumption related to data centres mainly comes from things like streaming, social media and online shopping. (国际能源署(IEA)预测,数据中心的用电量将在五年内增加三倍。但目前,与数据中心相关的1.5%的全球电力消耗主要来自流媒体、社交媒体和网络购物)”可知国际能源署预测未来五年数据中心用电可能变为三倍,但目前数据中心占全球电力消耗的1.5%主要来自流媒体和社交媒体等,言外之意是目前AI在数据中心电力消耗方面作用较小。故选B项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“The best way would be for governments to set a proper price for carbon and let the market operate. But because a global carbon price remains a distant dream, focusing on other three measures are more down-to-earth.(最好的办法是政府为碳设定一个合适的价格,让市场运作。但是,由于全球碳价格仍然是一个遥远的梦想,因此关注其他三个措施更为实际)”及第四段“A second is to rethink how data centers operate. (第二是重新思考数据中心的运作方式)”可知,设定合适的碳价是最好的方法,但这还很遥远,而重新思考数据中心的运营方式是更切实可行的措施之一。故选A项。
文章第一段“In the age AI, worries about its impact the environment are snowballing. (在人工智能时代,对其对环境影响的担忧正在滚雪球)”指出人们担忧人工智能对环境的影响,如高能耗和增加温室气体排放等,第二段“AI is already helping improve the efficiency of electrical grids (电网), cut fuel use in shipping and spot invisible leaks of greenhouse gas. (人工智能已经帮助提高了电网的效率,减少了航运中的燃料使用,并发现了看不见的温室气体泄漏)”提到人工智能在一些方面有助于经济绿化和环保,如改善电网效率等,文章倒数第二段集中提出了一些使人工智能减少对气候的负面影响并发挥其优势的措施。纵观全文,文章都在围绕着人工智能对气候的影响来展开,D选项“AI: A Threat or a contributor to the Climate? (人工智能:对气候的威胁还是贡献?)”准确地概括了文章关于人工智能对气候影响的讨论,既提到了人们的担忧(威胁),又提到了它的环保潜力(贡献),最适合作为文章标题。故选D项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Active learning
Most people assume that the human brain is set on “automatic” — that means it learns all by itself. But this isn’t always true. ____16____ We can actively take part in the learning process and reflect on what we have learnt. These kinds of learning behaviors are called “active learning”. I suggest doing four things to take an active role in your learning.
____17____ There are two kinds of voices: the inner voice and the outer voice. Your inner voice expresses your personal opinions, while the outer voice tells you about what you hear or read. If you keep paying too much attention to it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus on what the speaker/ writer is saying, not on what their brain is saying in the background. In this way, they are in a better position to make decisions.
Ask questions. Asking questions is the easiest way to promote active learning. When you get information from someone, from books or the Internet, ask questions about the topic. ____18____ And the very act of working out questions will help you to achieve a higher level of understanding about the topic.
Get to the truth. Active learners do not accept everything they learn. They attempt to find the truth at the heart of each idea. Even when an idea sounds entirely unlikely, there may be an aspect of it that is based on truth. No matter how crazy an idea seems, try to find out the source of it. ____19____
Focus on the message. Many people miss out on learning opportunities because they let their feelings get in the way. ____20____ This is human nature, after all. But do not forget you can still learn from them. Active learners do not judge people based on first impressions or personal feelings. This goes the other way as well — do not just assume that some people are always right because of who they are or just because they are your friends.
A. Listen to the outer voice.
B. Do not stop being curious.
C. Argue with your inner voice.
D. The answers will lead you to further learning.
E. It is true that you cannot help disliking some people.
F. Actually, we need to train ourselves to be better learners.
G. Thus, you will increase your chance of learning something.
F 17. A 18. D 19. G 20. E
根据上文“Most people assume that the human brain is set on “automatic” — that means it learns all by itself. (大多数人认为人类大脑处于“自动”模式——即它会自主学习。)”和下文“These kinds of learning behaviors are called “active learning”. (这些学习行为被称为“主动学习”。)”可知,空处需衔接前后文,说明自主学习的局限性并引出主动学习的必要性。F选项“实际上,我们需要训练自己成为更好的学习者。”符合语境,承上启下。故选F。
【17题详解】
根据下文“There are two kinds of voices: the inner voice and the outer voice. Your inner voice expresses your personal opinions, while the outer voice tells you about what you hear or read. If you keep paying too much attention to it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus on what the speaker/writer is saying, not on what their brain is saying in the background. In this way, they are in a better position to make decisions. (有两种声音:内心的声音和外在的声音。你内心的声音表达了你的个人观点,而外在的声音告诉你所听到或读到的东西。如果你过于关注它,你可能会错过重要的信息。相反,主动学习者思想开放,专注于说话者或作者所表达的内容,而非自己大脑在潜意识里冒出的想法。如此一来,他们便能更有效地做出决策。)”可知,该段强调关注“外在声音”。A选项“倾听外在声音。”直接概括段落核心。故选A。
Asking questions is the easiest way to promote active learning. When you get information from someone, from books or the Internet, ask questions about the topic. (提出问题。提问是促进主动学习最简单的方法。当你从他人、书籍或者互联网获取信息时,针对该主题进行提问。)”可知,选项承接上文说明提问的作用,提问后思考答案能促进主动学习。D选项“答案会引导你进一步学习。”符合语境。故选D。
【19题详解】
根据上文“Active learners do not accept everything they learn. They attempt to find the truth at the heart of each idea. Even when an idea sounds entirely unlikely, there may be an aspect of it that is based on truth. No matter how crazy an idea seems, try to find out the source of it. (主动学习者不会接受他们所学的一切。他们试图在每个观点的核心找到真相。即使一个想法听起来完全不可能,它也可能有一个基于事实的方面。不管一个想法看起来多么疯狂,都要努力找出它的来源。)”可知,选项承接上文说明这样做的好处。故G选项“这样,你就增加了学习的机会。”符合语境。故选G。
【20题详解】
根据上文“Many people miss out on learning opportunities because they let their feelings get in the way. 【36题详解】
考查连词。句意:中国的成就不仅展示了国家实力,还拓展了人类对宇宙的理解。根据句意可知,not only...but (also)... 故填but。
故填as。
故填which。
故填have carried。
本句已有谓语动词have ensured,所以recognize应填非谓语动词形式,它的逻辑主语是The Long March rockets,二者是动宾关系,所以此处应填recognized,构成过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰The Long March rockets。
故填It。

When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I occasionally allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears, with a fawn-colored coat. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it.
The dog was barely twelve weeks old. It had no collar or identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about running an advertisement in the lost-and-found but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely.
By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart pounded with fear at what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. They sounded desperate. My hand shook. I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband.
By now we had named the dog. It looked like a Molly, so that was what we called it. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did housework, it was there to lend a hand.
There was only one problem with this otherwise perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Molly tightly.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. Anxious yet determined, I dialed the number, my fingers trembling slightly. It didn’t take long before a young woman’s voice came through the receiver. No sooner had she heard my detailed description of the fawn-colored puppy than she choked up, insisting on coming over at once. Thirty minutes later, the doorbell rang, with Molly’s excited barks echoing through the house. Reluctant though I was, I opened the door, forcing myself to face the moment of goodbye.
I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Molly tightly. Tears of joy streamed down her face as Molly licked her cheeks. The girls, who had been peeking from behind the sofa, stepped out slowly, their eyes glistening with tears. Much to our relief, the woman promised she would bring Molly to our home at weekends. Before they left, the woman extended her heartfelt gratitude. This experience served as a constant reminder that doing the right thing — even when it hurts — brings the peace that comes from following our conscience.

A. Because spring is best for practice.
B. Because it matches Taijiquan’s core philosophy.
C. Because it is the anniversary of Taijiquan’s creation.

Committing more to such approaches would help transform AI from climate suspect to climate hero
